The first part of the race was always the slowest and most cautious, as everyone was getting up to speed and finding their place in the pack. Jockeying for position and fighting to pass and shift ahead. Hana's vehicle wasn't the fastest one in the race, but she was consistent enough to squeeze through early on and get near the front.

The relatively normal street they'd started on was already shifting and changing. Gaining more neon lights and other flashy accessories as they continued. "Is it just me, or are we going up?" The road was steadily inclining, as Hana cautiously gave the car more gas.

"Oh, a loop, that explains it. Wait, what!?" The road in front of them curled right up off the ground, twisting upwards into the sky. Hana knew just enough about video games to know slowing down now was a bad idea, so she gripped the wheel tighter and pressed her foot down firmly.

Of course, when the loop began to tilt to the side, she was just a bit thrown off. Thankfully not actually thrown off, like several other races that were sent plummeting back towards solid ground. Hana simply skidded back and forth before regaining control, even as the road suddenly shifted from sideways to normal again, spitting them back out onto the relatively normal track.

"I take it back, these things are, like, way too stressful!" She was able to relax slightly though, leaning back in her seat. The field of competitors had been noticeably thinned out by that first obstacle, while the environment was changing again. The neon lighting taking over with a vengeance, as several conflicting direction signs began appearing above and around them. "Uh, any idea which way is right? I mean, the right...you know what I mean!"

The world was bizarrely safer in some ways now, what with Safe Zones being entirely devoid of conflict. As long as people didn't mind picking flowers or delivering boxes every day, they could be relatively well off. Maybe she was just young enough to have adapted to all of this quickly, though.

She moved her hand away from the bubble as the spirit spoke up, smiling to herself. Before looking back up as Enigma shared his thoughts. "Uh, spirits and stuff aren't real. I mean, they weren't real." Hana was giving him quite the odd look, thankfully hidden by her helmet. "But there's no reason we can't work with them now, as long as they're willing to get along with us."

"Oh yeah, we should be fine!" She wasn't so sure they'd win again, but they'd definitely finish the mission at the very least. Hana hadn't upgraded her vehicle yet, or at least not the one that Enigma would fit on comfortably. Meanwhile, the people they kept being matched against were definitely big fans of customizing their rides.

Hana wasn't exactly sure how many of the competitors they raced against were other people with classes, and how many were just NPCs the system used to fill things out. Really the only way to tell was seeing if someone could join a party or not. This new world was definitely weird and confusing sometimes.

"Oh, I met someone who had a class based around racing. They could summon motorcycles and cars and stuff. So they're probably loving it here!" If you were focused on vehicles, you could quite possibly do all your leveling in this city as long as you were somewhat careful.

Finally the countdown began, as vehicles shifted into place and engines began revving. "Alright, watch out for traps and keep an eye open for a weird tunnel. Got it!" Hana would hit the gas as soon as they were given the green light, starting out much more confident this time!

Hana lowered her guitar once she realized this really was just some sort of projection. It would've been too easy to just run right into the guy in charge, right? She glanced to the side to see Enigma reappear as the scientist made it clear his presence was already known.

She scowled inside of her helmet as he delivered this big speech, sounding to her just like a villain from one of the Sunday morning TV shows. "This is just another person that's still living in the past." He was taking advantage of the benefits of the new world, but all he could imagine was the same simple power bad guys always craved. "Earth-chan might be letting you do whatever you want right now, but as soon as you get in the way you'll just disappear. You can't get more powerful than the thing handing out powers." Plenty of people had already vanished, after all.

As the water spirit whimpered, Hana simply cupped a hand over it protectively. Then Enigma finally spoke up. She smiled inside of her helmet, happy to see him standing up for the creatures being enslaved and exploited. "Yeah, so..." Hana casually smashed the pod on her side of the room with one fist. "...if you'd like to leave the spirits behind and run away now, you can get a head start."

She didn't know what to expect, but this was definitely not on her list. The audience was seated on either side of a walkway that led from the door directly to the seat of honor. Which meant that as soon as Hana stepped through the door after Enigma, they were standing on the stage right in front of them.

"That's the guardian? I thought it was the one outside?" Hana half-whispered to Enigma, before shrugging. It didn't really matter, as long as they completed the challenge, and the mission. They'd definitely surveyed the spirits up close and personal by this point as well.

"A song? Sure!" You didn't have to ask her twice! Seeing as they already had a stage, she didn't need to summon her own. Instead withdrawing her guitar before a large speaker appeared nearby. Then, as she pointed upwards, a trio of lights began to float above. Unlike when they'd simply acted like flashlights in the earlier mission, this time they began to flash and pulse in multiple colors. The last step, of course, was to summon her mic and take a deep breath.

Hana looked over as she heard Enigma speak up, pulled away from her examination of the spectral band. "Huh, what's up?" She watched him begin to dash towards the dancing ghosts before disappearing from view. Now she finally caught sight of the out of place solid object, seeing it jerk and hop away from the ghosts as Enigma snatched it away.

And then he tossed it to her for some reason! Her eyes went wide, but she managed to get her hands up and catch it, although she stumbled a bit. "H-hey! More warning next time!" Hana didn't seem upset, though, just surprised. By the time she'd recovered, their surroundings were already shifting, the spirits vanishing for the moment.

"Uh, well, we've seen revived spirits, and this is kinda like a key." Hana looked around the circular room, the one wall sporting a door every few feet, all identical. "I guess there's only one way out, now." With a shrug, she picked one at random and attached the knob. "The ghost said we shouldn't be meek, right?" The musician opened it after a pause to make sure Enigma was ready, pulling it open to the side to give them both a clear look inside.

Hana tilted her head, one hand holding her chin as she read the rhyming instructions. She'd try to remember them as they continued the mission. Now that the mobile suits of armor had moved aside, she could follow Enigma inside the haunted mansion. Once again, the interior didn't seem to match the outside world at all.

"Maybe the party's, like, on repeat? Just an echo of the original one or something." The musician kept swiveling her head back and forth to try and take in all the sights and sounds of the bustling scene. Hana turned to shrug at Enigma in return. "I guess we look for a key then. Unless it's not a literal key..." That would make things more complicated.

As her partner picked a direction and headed off, Hana nodded and went the other way. Carefully picking her way between dancing and conversing spirits, checking the system menu for any clues, she did her best to keep an eye open for anything that stood out. Fore one thing, the party definitely had music, so maybe she could investigate that?

Across the grand hall Enigma could see her steadily approaching a group of spectral musicians. She seemed too distracted to notice the glint of something metallic visible through the translucent body of a spirit dancing across the floor. Or maybe her vision wasn't as magically sharp as Enigma's? Either way, the solid object was spinning across the room, ghosts seemingly doing their best to block Enigma from approaching it by dancing around the central spirit.

Hana nodded along as Enigma spoke, while they climbed the steps that led up to the temple doors. "I guess that's one way of looking at it. Might not be as bad with a full group." Pushing open the doors and stepping inside, she took a few moments to absorb the view, before looking back outside to confirm everything was still relatively normal back there.

"Yeah, it's different. We don't normally see signs of, like, civilization." She pulled up a system menu as they slowly walked through the ethereal garden, making sure the information was being collected properly. There were certainly enough of the wispy spirits flitting about everywhere to get some solid data.

Realizing the garden had its own sky, and now a mansion set in its center, Hana was fairly certain this wasn't really inside that temple they'd entered. Although the doors were still where they should be, in case they needed to exit. "This ghost also seems more solid than usual, right?" Or at least more humanoid. "Must be who we need to meet."

Of course, there were those pesky challenges to get out of the way first. As soon as they approached, the two patrolling knights turned to face them, blocking their path. They didn't quite seem aggressive, though. More like protective. As the spirit noticed the intruders as well, it released the list to float into the air, displaying their objective.

Hana nearly fell off her board as Enigma spoke up, suddenly appearing nearby, as far as she could tell. "H-hey! I keep saying not to sneak up on me like that!" She huffed, annoyance visible this time, as she hadn't bothered to summon her armor yet. This place wasn't innately any more dangerous than the regular world they usually dealt with, so she didn't have to be excessively cautious.

"I'm, uh, not really interested. But if we're going to keep having to deal with it, I should probably do my homework, right?" Hana didn't have much supernatural in her bag of tricks, unless you counted the weird shadowy stagehand. "I'm better now, but I'm still not ready to go back to that place anytime soon. We really need to get some of our Guild members leveled up so they can help out next time."

Knowing Enigma was always interested in this sort of thing, she'd invited him along. After arriving at the portal that supposedly led to this spirit guardian, she stepped through to the other side. [break][break] Hana was getting used to this, shifting dimensions. Two trips through the portals to the astral plane already, not to mention whatever that weird red world was that Enigma now had access to. One of their initial rewards had even made the transition a bit easier, preventing the unsettling sensation that had followed her throughout the first trip. [break][break] On the other side now, the guardian's location was easy enough to spot. There hadn't been any buildings here in the normal world, and now there was some sort of massive temple in the distance. Sending Enigma a message, unsure if he was already here exploring or about to arrive and join her, she withdrew her surfboard from her inventory and hopped on, heading towards the obvious point of interest. Hana couldn't quite feel it, but she could see the goop covering her helmet, slurping all over her. All she could do was pull harder, straining...until suddenly stumbling back. Pyramid in her hands, the gelatinous coating splattering to the floor, suddenly powerless. "Whew! Close one." She nodded at Enigma as he reappeared, rather relieved that all the security systems were powering down.

When the strange elemental creature zipped around her helmet before darting towards the core, she held it out at arm's length with both hands, unsure what else to do. Then it began to twitch and jump, making Hana yelp as it hopped out of her grip and smashed itself open on the floor. Thankfully that seemed to be part of the plan, as a second strangely colored female spirit popped free from the shattered containment device a moment later.

"Uh, yeah, we're trustworthy! I'm glad we were able to, like, rescue you. Or whatever we just did." Hana gave the elemental hiding behind her a brief thumbs up, otherwise holding still to let her take cover behind her armored form. The rest of the conversation mostly went over her head, although it seemed to excite Enigma. That was good enough, then.

"So, there's more to explore? I'm kinda running out of items and all my abilities are going on cooldown..." She was confident she could pull out a few more tricks, though. Just worried that most of her most potent ones had already been used up. "We'll have to, uh, be extra careful." Hana nodded along as Enigma briefly talked over their strategy going forward.

Summoning her guitar again to shake off the leftover goop, she bowed over it in response to the watery elemental's thanks. "Oh, you're welcome! And she's gone." The musician peered through her helmet at the glowing spot on her guitar, before shrugging and following after Enigma. "I definitely couldn't handle all this myself, either. I think this whole red world thing might be way too dangerous to bring more people along, until they level up a bit more."

Once Hana spotted someone, though, she stepped forward to be the one to greet him, giving Enigma the chance to position himself or make a move while they were unaware of his presence. "Hey, I actually liked science class! When I got to go to school. But experimenting on, like, living things isn't good!" Hana approached warily. "If you'd like to just give up now and not summon another robot I have to smash up, I'd really appreciate it." She hefted up her crystalline guitar in a somewhat menacing fashion.

Hana wasn't sure exactly what she was seeing when she looked around the corner. Just blinking, head tilted. The musician opened her mouth to respond, but he was already gone. After a moment she turned her board around to return to where the others were talking, before hopping down to the ground, storing the item back in her inventory.

"Uh, I think I just saw a ghost. Earth-chan probably wanted us to follow it out of the Safe Zone so it could spring a surprise mission on us or something, but I'm just gonna ignore it." She just smiled at the two, not realizing Aliyah was watching them from above.
