He'd heard that Ender Island had some, but after going there all he ended up finding was a bunch of fishmen. Not only was that a bust, but he had to spend time dealing with some annoying guys so the whole day was a wash. Now he was here looking ridiculous in his giant wizard's hat hoping he could find the creatures he was looking for. [break][break] As he sat on a rock near the dock he pulled out an old iPod. He managed to find it in a shop somewhere during his time in Paris. With all the trading going on it was easy to find what he wanted. It was a simple device, but one that Jonas was more accustomed to using than the interface of the system. He ran his thumb along the circle control until the song he wanted scrolled onto the screen that was displayed in front of him. [break][break] After hitting play the song came through his Magi-Pods causing the vibrations to run through his body. Releasing them into the air caused a soft piano to be heard in the area. Jonas' plan to attract the creatures residing in The Devil's Triangle was a simple one. Merfolk were known for their magnificent voices so if he sang a song then it should attract them. At least he hoped it would. Who knows what else may come running instead? [break][break] A high-pitched nearly operatic woman's voice emanated from his mouth. “Oh no soul. And no name. And no story. What a shame. Cruel existence was only a sham.” He slowly raised an arm in front of him. “Oh Saint Peter let me in. You must know where I've been. Won't you tell me at last who I am?” As he repeated the last three words of the line he could hear the sounds of others approaching. She was a bit careless about the survey thing, but she was interested in the loot and rewards available there. She already leveled up a lot of levels and got several useful pieces of equipment recently. So she was confident going into the island alone. At least that was the plan. As soon as she arrived on the island, Arcana stretched her limbs after getting off from the boat when she heard a woman's voice singing an operatic melody. It wasn't her type of music, but just listening to it seemingly made her relaxed. She didn't expect a piece of soothing music to help her mentally prepare for the chaos to come. But she really needed it. She would have thanked someone for it. That was until she found a certain young man sitting on the rock near the docks. A face that she rather not see again until now.[break][break]

Hana had already done all the introductory missions once, and investigated some spirits for that survey. The last thing on the list involved assisting someone else with their own survey, meeting some new fantastical species. Both Enigma and Dee Dee had already finished theirs, and even Hikari was done with her trip. So, here she was, surfing around the zone looking for any familiar faces out on a mission.

She heard something familiar before seeing it, though. Not the voice, or the song, but the way the air hummed when those particular powers were used. Hana looked back and forth, adjusting her glasses, before spotting the figure sitting near the docks. Maybe they'd arrived on the boat that'd just left? Or maybe they'd been sitting there waiting for the arrival of the person walking over to them.

Nope, the new person was yelling at the one seated, so they probably weren't friends! Deciding to investigate who might be harassing one of her Guild members, Hana picked up speed, surfboard propelling itself across the water towards the two. "Hey Jonas! Oh, and...uh...Kana!" They'd only met briefly, and it'd been a while as well.

The two watched the musician move across the water on the self-propelled board, before it just as casually continued streaming water behind and underneath to carry itself up onto dry land towards them. She gave them both a friendly wave and a big smile, but kept quiet to let Jonas sing. And give them both a moment to explain.

Unfortunately for Jonas, his song did nothing to attract the creature he wanted to appear. A few birds and other small animals came to see the source of the sound, but no merfolk. He had thought that at least one would poke their head out near the shore. It seemed like he would have to try harder to achieve that dream.

As Jonas sang the next part of the song he used the iPod to scroll through his system menu. Suddenly he heard something other than the scurrying of animals. The elongated vocalizations in the lyrics abruptly changed when he saw what was causing the footsteps. “AAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaa-eh?” The last note turned into a confused eh in his normal voice as Arcana came into view. A record scratch marked the end of the song.

He quickly tried to hide his face with the wide brim of his giant hat so she wouldn't recognize him. Her shouting let him know that it didn't work. “Damn. There goes my chance of enjoying my time on the island.” Jonas grumbled to himself as he adjusted his hat back to its normal position. “What do you mean what am I doing here? I got here first! And yeah I'm still being a-” He put air quotes around the following words. “Drama king.” He scoffed before continuing. “What do you think I was doing before you got here?”

Right on cue, Hana came to his rescue on a surfboard that could ride on land. Damn. The system gave out the weirdest items. Jonas sighed and waved back at the woman as she arrived. It looks like she wasn't here to save him after all. He placed his elbow on his knee and rested his head on his hand while he spoke. “So are you two here to help out that super spy person you were talking with before Hana? Something about surveys? I don't know I was never a good test taker so I didn't pay much attention.”

Hana hopped off her board, returning it to her inventory as she looked between the two, watching them argue. "Aww, just because he's squishy doesn't mean he's not powerful! You just gotta raise some of those other stats sometimes." A lot of people seemed to focus entirely on their main damage dealing stats, which could be dangerous if you didn't defeat all the enemies before they had a chance to target you in return.

"Oh, Arcana. Sorry!" She bowed apologetically, before the topic of what everyone was doing here came up. "Super spy?" Hana blinked a few times, before the rest of their questions helped her figure out what they meant. "Oh, Enimga! Yeah, his Guild got put in charge of conducting surveys in this area for the new event. Kinda like the trade Guild handed the last one." The musician nodded.

"Enigma helped me with the last one, so I got the new skill and everything!" Hana raised a hand, snapping her fingers as she partially faded out of view, becoming translucent. "Ooooh, spooky, right?" She waved the hand through the singer's new hat, passing right through it harmlessly. "Are you both surveying the same species, or did you not pick one out yet?"

As much as he hated to admit it Arcana was right. At least partly. There were a lot of strange things in this new world that didn't make sense. Things that his logical mind couldn't comprehend. Things that seemed just the slightest bit off, but not in a way that he could put his finger on. Not that Jonas would ever give her the satisfaction of knowing that.

He scoffed at the woman's attempt at belittling him. “Squishy bard my ass! I bet my defenses are better than yours, Arcana! You may be a battlemage, but I'm a damn tank!” It was a boast he was particularly confident in. He pounded his fist against his chest a couple of times as if to emphasize that fact. When they did their tutorial together it would have stung a bit, but now it didn't hurt a bit! Despite his small frame, he was surprisingly sturdy.

As Jonas guessed it was Enigma that was running the surveys. It made sense with their guild focusing on collecting information. At least from what he remembered from their conversation. The place sounded like the CIA. The Guildmaster dressed like they were part of it too... Maybe they were a FED before.

Unfortunately for Hana, Jonas seemed rather unimpressed with her transformation. He'd become somewhat jaded in a way during the short time he was in the new world. The fantastical abilities that everyone had no longer surprised the frowny-faced man.

While Hana was being spooky as heck and phasing her hand through his hat Jonas couldn't help but wonder... “Hey Hana all these Guilds have been running huge events lately. When's it gonna be our turn to put on one of these shindigs?” It was a rather blunt question. With his Guildmaster being a performer he imagined she would have thrown her hat into the ring already. It seemed unlike her to not go for that opportunity.

Then came the question of what creature they wanted to survey. There was only one thing he had in mind. The creature that he'd been searching for since his trip to Ender Island. Without a second thought, Jonas quickly blurted out, “Merfolk!” How could he choose anything else? With Hana guiding them through The Devil's Triangle he'd be able to meet them this time for sure, right?...

For a moment his frown turned into his normal resting bitch face. “Alright Hana lead the way. Where should we go first?” The system seemed to answer him for her. In it's own weird way of course. A game screen containing a mission suddenly popped up for the group. 'The Lost Spirit's Requiem: Find the spirit and help it pass to the other side.'

It didn't take long for his frown to return to his face as he read his new task. He wasn't a damn exorcist. Looks like his search for merfolk will be delayed once again. Unless they managed to find one along the way. “I have a new item that we can use as a radar to look for things. What do we wanna do first?”

Hana resolidified once she'd finished showing off, pausing to think for a moment at that question from Jonas. "...huh, I don't know. Maybe they'll let us, like, host a big concert or something?" She'd been putting on small performances in Safe Zones like Los Angeles, but nothing official. "Maybe when we finish the Guild Challenge?"

Guild Challenge? What did that even mean? Whatever at least they'd be putting on something soon. Or so Jonas hoped. So far all he'd been doing was singing on the streets for spare change. What could he expect though since he was still new to the organization? He hadn't been part of the Guild long enough for him to put on a show.

At least Arcana chose something easy to survey. They could probably just watch whatever spirit it was that they were meant to help for the mission. Good thing Hana saw some aquatic creatures too. That would make the whole thing pretty easy.

As they made their way to the location his Guildmaster was leading them towards Jonas refuted Arcana's attempts at putting him down. “It works on all players and creatures as long as they're not stealthed in some way. If I tune the frequencies sent out it should work on ghosts just fine. It's like echolocation. Hana nodded along as the two talked. Well, they seemed to argue, mostly. They were either good friends or didn't get along at all, but she wasn't really sure which yet. Anyway, soon enough they began to notice signs of the portal nearby. Trees further up the shore were all slightly tilted one direction. Even the wind, and the tide lapping at the beach, were subtly off.

"We're almost there..." But, she stopped short. There was clearly a break in the trees off in the distance, where they could head further inland. A nice, obvious path towards the portal. But, on this side of the beach, there were several huts and other buildings. Signs of a settlement.

Hana pointed off across the water, towards another island in the distance. "We came from there last time, so once we crossed the water..." She moved her arm, finger drawing a trail that ended on the beach, far on the other side of their current roadblock. "No wonder we didn't notice this."

While the blonde was more concerned with the past, in the present, the other two could notice signs of a spiritual presence of some sort. Items lifting slightly for a moment before dropping back in place. Footsteps appearing on the beach, to vanish a moment later. All looping towards the distant trail to the portal, before returning to the beachside dwellings.

Judging from Arcana's lack of response to his barb Jonas assumed she likely didn't understand echolocation or radars beyond 'sound lets me see'. If she did she would have bit back at him to let him know he was wrong. Sometimes what someone doesn't say is more important than what they do. This seemed to be one of those cases. He couldn't hide the joy in his voice as he began to speak and a smile spread across his face. “Who knows? You can get to know something pretty well by fighting with it.” If he wasn't certain he'd get a smack across the face he would have tried to playfully elbow the woman in the side.

Soon enough the group came upon what appeared to be a settlement. Jonas hadn't expected to see people living on the island. This place was spooky as hell. Or so he heard at least, but that would quickly be proven correct when objects started moving on their own. Not to mention the footprints in the sand. “Seems like that isn't the only thing you missed last time... Looks like we won't have to go far to find that spirit. Give me a moment.”

He fiddled with the buttons on his iPod for a second until it unleashed a wave of sound into the nearby area. The screen of the device projected a 3D map alerting the group of anything nearby. “Well I suppose we should start off with the spirits. Since we've already run into them and all.” With Hana being distracted going down memory lane Jonas began to lead the way toward the red dot on the map. Hopefully, it was an actual spirit they could survey or the one that they were seeking for the mission.

With Hana being preoccupied with nostalgia, she groaned while knowing she needed to follow Jonas next. Just in case, she pulled out her Five of Wands card to defend herself.

The map Jonas created immediately began pinging in multiple locations. The most obvious one seemed to be the ghost, invisible to them while the map seemed to have less trouble keeping track of it. While it didn't always cross the entire distance between two points, it would be easy enough for Jonas to study the pings it made whenever it reappeared and track its course.

At first, it seemed to be simply looping around the strange little settlement with no real purpose. But now, with a bit more detail, it seemed to be repeating some sort of routine. Stopping at the same huts, trying to lift the same boxes and other objects, before they slipped from its insubstantial grip. Towards the trees, then reappearing back near the buildings.

Of course, now that they'd disturbed its routine, it seemed curious about them as well. Mostly Arcana, who it seemed to be bothering the most, while it mostly ignored Hana. "Eh, what? What's wrong?" She turned to spot the footsteps in the sand, circling around their confused party member. "I think it likes you! That's good news. Aren't you supposed to be studying it?"

Meanwhile, Jonas was picking up other pings of movement, further up the beach. Moving closer. The glimmer of green and blue scales, still glistening wet.
