Even though it was the middle of the day, this patch of forest looked like it was trapped in perpetual night. Jonas somewhat regretted his choice in asking Hana if she knew anything other than Japanese music when she began singing country. Somehow she managed to pinpoint one of his least favorite genres of music. It wasn't even a good song like one of the upbeat ones or country rock. When the vehicle stopped and she announced they arrived he let out an, “Oh thank god,” under his breath.

The site of their newest mission looked like something straight out of a haunt. If he didn't know any better Jonas would have thought their targets were just scare actors. “Does it have to? This place is cool. Could probably turn it into some sort of tourist attraction.” While his Guildmaster was all sunshine and rainbows he wore a mostly neutral expression as usual. As neutral as one could get with RBF anyway.

As much as he wished the area could keep its spooky new theme the idea of free points was too enticing. Once again Hana would probably do most of the work so it really would be free points for Jonas. Not that he'd give up the chance to show off. To that end, he came equipped with his best items... even though they made him look ridiculous. A wizard's hat, a suit that was too tight, and a belt that read 'BAMF' on the buckle.

“Alright let's do this quickly. I've already dealt with more than my fair share of skeletons,” he said as he moved towards the tombstones. Jonas expected the skeletons to pop out of the graves any second. He hit a button on the old iPod he used to control his menu to activate his Magi-Pods. A pulse of vibrations ran down his body and through the ground. Soon after a screen similar to a sonar on a boat appeared in front of him. A pulse of vibrations was sent out continuously to alert the pair of any incoming enemies with a red dot on the map.

"It's not causing any problems right now, but..." Hana gestured back the way they'd come. "The villagers and farmers that live nearby call me in whenever there's a problem like this. They're not really interested in leveling up and doing missions and stuff, but they've always got plenty of fresh vegetables and bread and stuff for me, so...!" A few extra incentives beyond the usual point rewards, it seemed.

"Although it does look pretty cool! They really should've set this place up earlier, though." It was already well past Halloween! She actually wasn't sure if she'd ever fought any skeletons. A ghost and some cyborg zombies, definitely.

Hana had slowly and steadily assembled her own very full inventory of items, and was reaping the benefits. Her original stage costume she'd been wearing when her Tutorial started had gone through multiple repairs and been recycled into new outfits, but her new Dress of Wonders let her recreate it! Or anything else she could think of. Of course, she was still wearing something sporty and protective underneath it, just in case something went wrong.

"Alright, you take the lead and I'll back you up!" She gave him a thumbs up, following along, looking back and forth to keep an eye on things. Suspicious shapes began to appear in the trees and bushes, glowing eyes watching them. Once the ground around the tombstones began to shift and rise, she summoned the familiar crystalline guitar into her hands.

If not for her Jonas likely wouldn't have even taken the job with just some food as the reward. She did this often? How exhausting. “Well you're right about that at least. This should have been up a lot earlier. They missed their peak season. Not to mention most of their potential profits.” He sighed as he made his way toward the middle of the gravestones. [break][break] As expected the map showed signs of life when he approached the gravestones. As much life as a skeleton can have at least. When the ground in front of the graves began to stir Jonas simply sighed once again in response. This was going to be a long mission. “Alright sure. If I'm taking the lead then I'll show you some real country. And these bastards how to REALLY shake the ground!”[break][break] With a stomp of his foot, the vibrations coursing through the area around him from his sonar shifted to create sound. The sound of a drum and guitar began while Jonas stomped his foot and shimmied his shoulders to the beat. As a fiddle accompanied the other instruments he threw his fist in the air and a woman's voice erupted from his throat. “Ooooh whoa oh! Oooh whoa oh! Oooh whoa oh!”[break][break] The earth around him cracked and splintered before six hexagonal crystal-shaped shields burst from the ground leaving a ditch surrounding him. The chunks of rock spun at high speeds as they made their way to their designated locations. One orbited him to protect him from attacks while another did the same to Hana. Two of them crashed down on one of the creatures crawling out of its grave pinning it in place beneath them both. The final two flitted through the air around another of the enemies to keep it distracted. [break][break] A third skeleton was making its way over to Jonas as two more swarmed Hana. With his attention focused on the approaching enemy, he outstretched his arm with a flourish towards it as he sang. “You better take it from me.” A flick of his wrist sent an orb of vibrations at the monster once the line ended. The impact from the ball caused it to stumble back a couple of feet but did little to stop its advance. [break][break] With a finger gun locked and loaded at his current target more of the song came out of his mouth. “That boy is like a disease.” Jonas mimicked the hammer of a gun slamming into the back of a bullet and the recoil sending his arm flying up. A ball of vibrations much smaller than his normal attack shot from his fingertip at the creature causing it to fall back into its grave. It stopped moving and seemed to be done for. For now at least. Hana flinched at first, before realizing the flying earth was meant to protect her. "Woah, cool rock!" The exclamation seemed genuine. Jonas was already taking care of his share of skeletons, so now it was time for her to focus on the undead approaching her.

The first one was easy, as she simply smashed it to pieces with a swing of her guitar, a squeal of tortured sound emitted as the instrument hit home. Freeing one hand from the weapon, she smashed her fist through the skull of the next skeleton in line, wincing for a moment at the sight. "Ugh, gross!"

They didn't seem to be stopping there, more of the unliving creatures dragging themselves free from the ground or stumbling from the concealment of the dark and shadowy bushes surrounding the area. Hana tossed her guitar into the air as a phantom hand appeared to grab it for her, freeing up her other hand to let her punch through another skeleton as it attempted to grasp her with a bony hand.

"They're not very strong, but there's sure a lot of 'em!" Hana called out to her partner for this mission, glancing over to make sure he was doing okay with his share of the skeletons. So far so good! His class seemed to prefer keeping a distance and using those barriers to let him fire off ranged attacks, from what she'd seen.

It's not like this was her first time seeing him use it. They'd been together during the incident with the stonks after all. Whatever. At least Hana had good taste in something. [break][break] When the guitar she was using as a weapon struck the skeleton it sent an almost physical pain through his body. The sound created was something out of a nightmare. Jonas could never understand how rockers could smash an instrument on the ground during their shows. Poor things. [break][break] As Hana finished off another enemy the radar disappeared for a brief moment before he reactivated the item. When it blipped back into existence he could see that red dots multiplied from the skeletons crawling out of the woodwork. Damn things never seemed to stop spawning just like before. Thankfully the ones they slew didn't seem to be getting back up at least. [break][break] Jonas wasn't sure if the enemies were actually weak or if Hana was just mowing through them due to her overwhelming level advantage. Either way as a small group approached him he figured it was a good opportunity to test out his newest ability. What better opportunity than with someone overpowered here to protect him if things went wrong? [break][break] “You're running and trying, you're trying to hide, and you're wondering why you can't get free.” The words quickly spilled out of his mouth and coated his body in a thin film of iridescent colors before Jonas shot forward like a bullet at the horde. Speed of Sound didn't make him too much faster at the moment, but it was still enough to deal with the slow undead. As he bobbed and weaved through the group the vibrations surrounding him damaged the first skeletons he encountered. [break][break] Once he made it through he turned back to see how the group of enemies had fared against his attack. As expected it didn't so much as make a dent on the majority of them. Jonas jumped backward when they began making their way towards him once more. With a kick against the air, he propelled himself out of reach of their attacks. [break][break] “He's like a curse. He's like a drug.” Unlike the balls of vibrations that were sent out before a continuous stream of multicolored rings was launched at the group causing two of them to shatter like glass. Hana let out a shout as Jonas dashed forward like that, impressed by his maneuverability. Once he turned back to dispatch a couple of the stragglers with some short of shattering blast, she dashed closer, following the path he'd taken. The blonde didn't need any speed increases to keep up, moving swiftly enough on her own.

At the back of the pack, she hopped into the air, spinning as her momentum carried her forward. Her skirt suddenly jutted outwards, rotating with her like some sort of buzzsaw as she sliced through a pair of skeletons. Landing smoothly, Hana continued twisting, blasting through another two undead with each fist as she kept spinning.

Popping back up next to Jonas as her spin skidded to a stop, the floating hand helpfully dropped her guitar back into her grip, and she slashed it through a final skeleton as she finished cleaning up. Well, she finished cleaning up the current mob. There were more flashes of bone visible pushing out of the earth, peeking from the forest surrounding them. "Maybe we can do a big loop to round everyone up? Or this is gonna take all day!"

Between her variety of weapons and her raw stats, she was mowing through the skeletons like a gardener taking out weeds. Even without his help, she wouldn't have had much of a problem with the mission. He was almost jealous of her abilities. [break][break] When she suggested that they round up the remaining skeletons Jonas nodded before he ran through the air around the area. “You'll get addicted to his love.” The first to take the bait was the creature that was distracted by his floating shields. He moved the crystalline structures away and it began to follow almost mindlessly. He also allowed the one pinned under his shields to get up and chase after him as well. Soon enough he had the entire hoard trailing after him just as they planned. [break][break] Once the skeletons were all clumped up Jonas did a heel turn in the air to face them all. “You wanna get out, but he's holding you down cause you can't live without one more touch!” Another stream of multicolored rings assaulted the hoard as each word came out. Surely Hana would be able to do the cleanup. He kicked off the air like it was ground to increase the distance between him and the enemies. Who knew what she would end up doing to take them out? Hana was just glad to see him improving. The worst thing people could do in this new world seemed to be staying stagnant. Without something to strive for, people tended to just disappear. If she'd been aware of his own concerns, she'd probably tell him about the time she had to run away from one vulture...

For now, she let Jonas rush off, glancing around to work out where he'd wind up at the end of that route. Taking the direct path to get there first, she spun her instrument back around to the proper grip and began to copy the guitar accompanying his singing. "You can fight it, or rock with it!" Hana happily announced, smiling, as she anticipated the next break in the song.

After Jonas blasted the horde and hopped out of range, Hana warped the melody of the song into a country-flavored guitar solo, sonic force expanding out from her position. The advancing wave of skeletons was blasted apart, crumbling to dust as the wall of sound washed over them. "But music conquers all!" She finished things up with a final strum, unable to keep herself from posing for a moment.

That seemed to be the cue for light to begin filtering through the trees again. Tombstones sinking into the ground, and disembodied eyes vanishing from the surrounding foliage. Soon enough it'd be proper daytime in a peaceful forest once more.

He knew she was a good guitar player, but didn't expect her to be able to jump in during the middle of a song. Whether she knew the song already or was able to pick up on the music it was impressive nonetheless. Playing an instrument in the middle of battle wasn't exactly easy. [break][break] As expected Hana easily destroyed the clump of skeletons. With an ability very similar to his own that he hadn't seen before. At least not to this extent. Mostly Jonas had seen her punching enemies or bashing them with her guitar. It shouldn't have been a surprise, but he couldn't help the wave of inferiority that washed over him. That quickly faded as Hana busted out a pose that looked like something ripped straight from an anime. Or musical theater. Maybe it wasn't as bad as his first impression made him believe. [break][break] Thankfully it looked like things had finished up in record time. The tombstones were swallowed up by the ground and light began to shine over the once cursed area. “Strange. Is it dawn already or did the event just make it dark?” As he fell from the air and landed on the ground the song quietly faded away. "Huh?" Hana broke from her pose as Jonas stopped singing to ask a question. "Oh, it was daytime when we were driving over here. I think it just changed the time of day right here." Not the strangest thing she'd seen happen. Time zones no longer made any sense at all, and several parts of the world were locked to one season, or one time of day.

She looked around as well, guitar disappearing back into her inventory once she was confident the miniature event was over. The phantom hands that had been assisting her were gone by now as well. A few moments later and the official mission completion screen popped up in front of her.

"We should report in at the farm nearby. I'll introduce you to everyone! I bet they want us to stay for lunch." Hana grinned wide at the idea. "Also, good work! The new world was so strange. It seemed like each area had its own physics, weather, or time of day. Now things could just change on a whim? After he caused the 3D map he was using to disappear a popup appeared in front of his eyes to let him know the mission was officially completed. Finally, the mission was over with and they could return to the base. Or not. It seemed that Hana had another idea. Jonas had to suppress a groan when she suggested they go visit the nearby farm. “Yeah sure. I'm in if there's food.” At least there's that.

He couldn't help but frown when she mentioned he probably could have handled the mission by himself. With how many enemies there were and his limited offensive capabilities Jonas doubted that was the case. The shields floating around the area fell to the ground and crumbled before he spoke again. “Yeah I'll be getting my subclass soon too. I hope it's something good. Alright, let's finish this up so we can get our rewards.”
