It was that time again! Hana was back in Los Angeles, looking for more recruits. Or, at the very least, people that had loaded in recently and needed some pointers. She'd run into a few recently in Tokyo, but newbies tended to head for Safe Zones first rather than wandering into what would've been a High Risk Zone if her Guild's base hadn't recently been upgraded.

The teen was slowly driving down a street mostly clear of debris and wrecked vehicles, the city having partially recovered over the year or so since the world had changed. Still, working vehicles were a rare sight, not to mention how well cared for this particular truck obviously was. The pickup bed was loaded with mundane supplies salvaged from various abandoned towns she'd explored, possibly along with a few other surprises.

A crowd was already gathering, although by the way the people formed a corridor towards a certain intersection it was clear this had happened before. Rolling to a stop, Hana stepped out, then effortlessly pulled herself up and onto the roof of the truck in one smooth motion. Smiling as she did a little pose, the blonde soon waved to the crowd and began beckoning any stragglers closer. "Plenty to go around, so no pushing! We might even have time for a short concert today!"

As gorgeous and peaceful Los Angeles was, Ume was probably far from using her time truly effectively. Slumped over a shogi board, her face was buried into folded arms, while Dahlia sat across from her. She was out of practice, and she could only feel her skills and knowledge disintegrating further into oblivion. If the board had caught her in this position, she was bound to be knocked down to 3rd dan, with no defense able to suffice. For now, her only solution to keep in practice was teach another shogi, which proved difficult, as Ume’s teaching strategies weren’t suited for most students.

Some respite from her frustration came in the form of the formation of a ruckus. Sitting upright, Ume rubbed the bridge of her nose, trying to ease tension unreleased. Allowing herself a distraction, she tilted her head, attempting to see what was getting the people of Los Angeles all worked up. Further down the street, most of her sight was obscured by the forming crowd. She wasn’t close enough to get the full scope, but she was able to put together enough to know that 'she shouldn't push' and maybe--if the crowd didn't misbehave--there may have been a show.

The game was over. Packing up the incomplete game into the cute travel box, Ume sighed, “Lessons are finished for today.” She curtly announced, standing up. Gesturing for Dahlia to come with her, she shifted to join with the growing onlookers, “Something to take our minds off of things.” One of those things, of course, was Ume’s own teaching missteps. A few “Excuse me”s had led her through the crowd quite well--mainly because some had found her height somewhat intimating-putting her to the truck's bed. As a precaution, she looked behind herself, to ensure that Dahlia was at arm's length.

"She's going to think I'm stupid.." Dahlia's internal monologue was alive with anxiety. She'd mixed up yet another piece on top of forgetting how the lance even moved. It was a nightmare of a game. This was the third round her gracious teacher had tried to impart some knowledge in and it simply was not sinking in for Dahlia. Not that the woman played a lot of games to begin with, maybe the occasional horror video game that she would have to turn off before finishing because it was just too scary. Usually she'd get back around to watching someone else play it, but that often proved challenging too.

Another bad move saw Umeko sinking further down. Seven games in and Dahlia was still grappling with what each piece did and even just the names. It didn't help that the longer this went on, the more hopeless she felt, the more she felt on the verge of tears. "She definitely thinks I'm stupid." An eighth game sealed her fate, or at least she assumed so by Ume's face being hidden against the table. Had she gone to sleep, or was it abject despair at the inability of Dahlia. Dahlia stared at the pieces, feeling lost inside. She idly took a sip of the nearby drink and realized it was Ume's, not her own. She set it down and was thankful Umeko hadn't been looking- Dahlia resolved to take this mistake to her grave.

A happening distracted from their individual predicaments in the form of a vehicle and someone standing atop it. Dahlia jumped slightly as Ume packed up the board but dutifully followed with a light confirming "Okay.", staying as close as possible to not get lost in the shuffle of the crowd. It helped to have a beacon of height to stick near. They neared the front of the crowd and had a better view of the spectacle, a truck clearly cared for filled with an varied assortment of things- apparently for taking? Dahlia assumed none of this was for her, but felt intrigued at the idea of a concert. Of course concerts could also be scary; she was put in mind of a video where someone got elbowed and nearly killed in 'The Pit'. Dahlia did like music though. The anxious gal would make a point to stick close to her travel companion, and the thought of doing so brought a small respite from the fear of being trampled in a crowd.

Hana was supervising as the supplies were handed out, watching from her perch for the moment. Clothes, bags, reusable bottles. Snacks and candy. There even seemed to be some board games and electronic devices. Reaffirming the idea that this was a somewhat frequent occurrence, several members of the crowd were already assisting with handing things out, and most people were lining up and behaving themselves.

"And if anyone has met someone with a class related to, like, music or communication, let me know!" Hana had asked around before, and only rarely gotten any leads. Still, it didn't hurt to keep trying. Plus, it was just a nice thing to do. Ollie would've been proud. Every once in a while she ran into brand new people, as well.

Speaking of, two unfamiliar faces were taking in Hana, and the scene in general, with looks of confusion. "Hey! First time?" Hana leaned towards them slightly, giving a little wave to get their attention. Surprisingly, the crowd shifted around them, making room, as if they expected something.

The something became obvious a moment later, when Hana leapt from the top of the truck, landing gracefully next to the two. "Woah! You're way taller from down here." Her eyes widened behind her glasses as she looked up at Umeko, before bowing politely. "I'm Hana Sakuyuki, nice to meet you. Both of you." Another bow for Dahlia, of course, and she was again all smiles by the time she stood up straight. Before noticing something else. "Oh, do you need some tissues?" Holding out her hand, an unopened plastic travel package of tissues suddenly appeared in her grasp, offered towards the shorter of the pair.

Dee Dee was scooting around the city as usual, having packed up her food cart from the last location she was already in transit to the next location with her friends with her, She did circuits like this a lot still, even with running and upgrading the guild she made sure to make time to take her food cart out to get to people that might be new and help them acclimate to the new world they were in and to spread her up to date mundane versions of her beginners guide! they had apparently helped a LOT of people get at least the barest amount of points they needed to survive in some cases, though she knew others were still struggling even after all that since they couldn't or wouldn't take on the dangers of doing the tougher missions that would give greater reward. So she ran her food cart, those that could pay payed, and those that couldn't pay ate for free, and of course if they were new they ate for free and got a beginners guide. At this point the site of the small girl with the menagerie of monsters with her was a common enough sight, people were used to it, but a lot of people started to notice that the group of monsters with her had been growing! And of course rumors had started that she wasn't actually human, that she was some sort of monster or system assistant, after all how could she know all this stuff that were in the book? Or have all the skills she did? Granted Dee Dee was unaware of all these rumors about her not being actually human. Turning the corner Dee Dee spotted a crowd near one of her normal stops the crowd was normal but something in it made her blink a bit, she seen a very familiar truck, familiar because she often did work on it for Hana to keep it running and in fact Dee Dee had a ton of spare parts she meant to go to the girls guild to give to her, but seems she was here, strange that she never saw her here, but then Dee Dee realized it may have been because this time around she was done in the previous location a great deal sooner then normal, so she must have been just missing her every time, Funny that? Scooting over pulling her food cart she started to set up in the normal location, which was on the edge of the crowd, and her and all her friends started to prep the cart, unfolding it, getting the signs and tables up, getting the dishes and cooking surfaces ready, as she got ready some people spotted her and started to mention the cart was there as Dee Dee looked up and waved as the meat and Tomato banners went up projecting the two large holographic images of a Tomato and Meat and marking the cart on the minimap of anyone in the area. With all that set up Done Dee Dee started to prep things for serving as she waved over to Hana though if the girl could see the short girl was unknown, but she would likely see the large holographic tomato and meat that were up in the air.. or hear people talking about how that "strange creature" was here with the food. Though with Hana, Dee Dee also spotted to woman that she remembered had been on the mountain during the christmas event and she waved to them as well, granted at the time they had only Seen her as Waddle-Dee Dee so her current form might not look familiar. Diligently, trying to come into possession of a bag, Umeko had certainly fumbled. Her newness was worn directly on her sleeves, and this simple mission devolved into acquiring a set of clothes both too small for Ume and too large for Dahlia. Before she could truly muse on her failures, she had been waved over by the mastermind of the operation, “Yes. Haven’t gotten used to this just yet.”

It wasn’t long before the two were in the welcoming presence of Hana herself, eager to exchange pleasantries. Tilting her head down to make eye contact with the gawking young lady, “Afraid so.” She answered, well used to the tricks of perspective, although she may as well have been a Kaiju standing between Hana and Dahlia. Yet she wasn’t, she was, “Umeko Uesugi, a pleasure.” Returning a bow in kind.

She kept turning around Hana’s request in her mind. This may be her time to speak up. Finding herself in an odd situation where her nerves stood on edge, she cleared her throat, “As to what you were asking, I don't have an applicable class, not really at least.” She expressed some level of disappointment. The qualifier was necessary, although she believed her newfound power set made her nothing short of a Goddess for any filmmaker with a flare for the sublime; it simply lacked a direct relevance.

Still, she was losing herself, and losing others in the process. Straightened out, she removed her now mystical 4:3 viewfinder from around her neck. No amount of arcane embellishments or superfluous auxiliary lenses could obscure the fact that this implement was once a mundane–if outdated–movie-making tool.

“Before all of this happened I worked in film; as a cinematographer, a camera operator, and an assistant when the need arose. Television, commercials, music videos, mov–” A longing sadness crept into her voice, cracking the longer she reminisced. Realizing that she was perhaps on the verge of being far too candid with a relative stranger, she brought herself back in, “Apologies. I may be of some assistance, is all.”

What was already a busy charitable event morphed into something sinister in Ume’s mind. From her natural vantage, she caught a good look at the tiny woman bringing fresh food to the masses. She waved back, flashing about as jovial a smile as she could. Having one last, pressing concern, she leaned down towards Hana, “Is that a challenge? Will… will this erupt into a duel?” She couldn't imagine anything good could come from the crossing of paths of two separate promotional venues.

Being in the middle of crowds was hard. Meeting new people was scary, and harder. But thankfully this new acquaintance seemed kind, friendly. Even handy, as Hana apparated tissues from nowhere like a magician, or ghost. Dahlia had to remind herself of how people had 'inventories' now, and sniffled a little as she tried to peel at the tissue package to grab just one, giving a meek smile. But it was sealed, unused as of yet, and Dahlia was left pawing at the thing for a moment before realizing. "Oh no..." Now both of these two folks and anyone witnessing the trio's conversation would see her faux pas. Dahlia gave up and, with the look in her eyes of a million-yard stare, took the tissues whole and undid the plastic. She mouthed a 'thank you' as conversation got underway.

A new dilemma quickly found Dahlia, as they often did."...but I can't blow my nose like this while Umeko is talking..." She shuffled a little, fidgeting with the paper in her hand. What could she do besides daub at her tears, tears that were quickly becoming more likely to spill over with the mounting social embarrassment? The woman brought the tissue to her nose and blew ever-so-gently, the way an antelope my breathe when caught in the gaze of a large savanna cat. It was ineffectual. Dahlia became caught in that strange in-between of low shallow breaths that seemed only to move the mucus back and forth. The thought of it was mortifying, but Dahlia needed to be decisive. This next move could very well dictate her social standing here for days if not months to come. The conversation came to a somewhat natural pause, just between Ume's apology and her noticing something at the periphery of the street. Before looking herself, Dahlia mustered up her courage and lightly blew. There hadn't even been much to expel, and it wasn't even all that loud, but she felt disruptive regardless. And yet, it was slightly relieving, too.

Hopefully not having lost standing, Dahlia was free to turn her nervous energy elsewhere. Looking up from the ground she was able to spot the strange neon signs, not entirely sure what they were depicting as she couldn't quite see over the crowd. The prospect of a street duel, however, was worrying itself. She felt a new surge of fear, and a faraway look overcame her already scared features. Dahlia emotionally began to prepare herself to weaponize more shoes, should the need arise.

Still, dueling or not, she wanted to participate. Media was certainly an interest of Dahlia's, and if she could just overcome her anxieties maybe she could find a place to immerse herself in horror of a less dangerous if still scary kind once more. Though she didn't have a class specifically suited to entertainment, "Some, um, some friends of mine and I were going to film a ghost-hunting pilot to pitch to Tubular and some other networks..." It wasn't the contribution she had wanted to give, but it was something. "Cheri was going to teach me to edit, before... well." The bags under her eyes would have deepened then and there if they could. Dahlia looked harrowed, the face of a woman who had screamed a thousand screams, cried a million tears, and fairly recently woken up amidst a world-altering apocalypse. She daubed at another stray tear.

"Miss Uesugi?" She'd heard that name quite a few times, especially recently. "Oh, I know someone else with that name. How do you write it?" After handing over the tissues to Dahlia, which took a few moments longer than she expected, Hana pulled up an inventory menu and began scrolling through it. Apparently this item wasn't as familiar as the tissues, so it took her a moment to retrieve it.

"Does this mean anything to you, Miss Uesugi?" Hana held up a golden kamon, the Uesugi Clan Emblem, system screen closing a moment later. In return, Umeko produced an item of her own, which Hana vaguely recognized. "Oh! That's why I've seen that thing before." The musician's eyes lit up behind her glasses. "Do you know how to actually, like, work cameras and microphones and stuff?"

Dahlia's social faux pas, or at least her fretting over the possibility of committing one, went mostly unnoticed by the blonde. Until she finally spoke up with her own contribution. "Oh, I used to upload my own songs, so I know a little about audio and video editing! We, uh, had a pretty good app that handled most of it, though..." She deflated for a moment, before quickly recovering. "But I've found some laptops, and the office has a computer, so I bet one of them has that kinda software on it!"

Smiling again, she realized she needed to explain that a bit more. "Oh yeah, I'm the Guild leader of ANTHEM, a Guild based in Tokyo. Well, they call it Neo-Tokyo now, since it's changed so much. But I'm doing my best to make it safe again, and kickstart the entertainment industry. Right now our base is an apartment building, but it should be expanding again soon!"

Hana looked over, as both of her new acquaintances spotted Dee Dee's arrival. "A duel? Oh, no, Dee Dee's harmless! Well, as long as you're not on Santa's naughty list." She gestured to the supplies in the truck nearby. "You can grab whatever you want, but if you don't mind taking a trip to Japan with me, I'd be happy to show you around the Guild base. We've got way more supplies there. And electricity!" Hana turned, crowd shifting again so she could spot Dee Dee and finally wave in return. "C'mon, I'll introduce you! I hope you're hungry! And like tomatoes." The blonde would lead the way over, confident the crowd would calmly distribute the remaining supplies.

Dee Dee was already getting some ingredients out to get ready for cooking and setting other things out as she finished setting up the food cart, she had a lot more dishes and utensils, all hand made, and the cold stone and fridge was larger thanks to her finding a larger cooler and a cold stone she could prep for the use of her food cart, so now she could even make cold desserts easier, she even had a waffle press so she could make crepes now! As Hana walked through the group of people she would hear people whispering to each other "I hear it's actually a little gremlin who is friendly but travels with a bunch of other monsters to make friends with humans.." one person whispered to another as Hana walked by. "I hear it's a type of fey, I mean look at it, it's clearly not human what human looks like that it's so small and adorable it can't be human" another whispered. as Hana walked passed. "the food they make is great and they don' charge if you don't have the points needed to pay, I have even seen them helping repair ruins and make homes for people.. don't worry they are friendly come on.. they even have beginners guides to help people" another said clearly encouraging another person. people were starting to line up already as Dee Dee was already getting orders set up, just as Bombdee finished setting up the TWO menus, one that had tomatoes in them, things like Tomato soup, and the highly Suggested "Tomatonator" meal! The other Menu had normal food with much less emphasis on Tomatoes, there was also desserts, fried foods, baked food, boiled, suvied, Roasted, Toasted, even deep fried, anyway there was do cook things Dee Dee was clearly set up to do so! and she was already hard at work with TreeDee, BombDee, Geist, and CaveDee to make food for all the orders being made, while Gwen, and Jimmy, all set up the tables and chairs, while Ton and Kramer stayed near the cooler and Ovens respectively, Ton able to cool the coolers more if needed, and Kramer able to heat up the cooking surfaces quickly when needed. Meanwhile Fawn and Chomps was playing with the younger people evne some of the few children. Dee Dee looked to Hana as she walked towards her food cart as well as the two girls with her and she waved to her once more as the word bubble popped up over her head rather then the smol girl actually saying anything "Hey Hana, seems we must miss each other here all the time, I finished my previous stop earlier then usual, it's why I am here now, but it seems your here a lot too! “Ue-Su-gi” She guided, helping Hana through the spelling process. Then when confronted with the audacious family crest, Ume let out a slight wry chuckle. It had been awhile, but she did have a passing familiarity, “Ah! Not personally, no… I’m an Uesugi, not one of the Uesugi; I used to get asked about them a lot when I moved to Tokyo, and it usually stopped as soon as I opened my mouth.” She explained, allowing her Tokyo-softened Kansai twang to shine its way through.

Her own family, mostly cooks (and occasional shogi players) in Osaka, had found the idea of sharing their family name with stuffy old money amusing. Her uncle often graced her with wildly farcical tales of their fictional great-great-grandfather: A problem gambler who had fallen from their ivory tower and married a farmer’s daughter in Takatori, leading to his exile.

Usually reserved Ume had brightened up considerably as the conversation weaved back into filming. Even when breaking a modicum of “Camera, yes, be it a Mitchell BFC or an Alexa 65; I can operate it. I haven't done much formal work in sound mixing, though, I aided with some friend’s student films at most, but most of my knowledge isn’t based on personal experience, only literature. My expertise, overall, lies in camerawork, lighting, blocking, mise-en-scène–the moving picture.” She so cheerily exposited.

Filming remained a team endeavor, and a complicated one at that. Ume had no delusions in being a fully fledged expert in every aspect of filming. Nevermind the many missing roles beyond the camera-side film crew technical side: Writers, actors, stunt actors, special effects supervisors.

Getting so ahead of herself, she had forgotten her own companion, who rang back to her attention. It was a pleasant surprise to hear her usually so terribly meek friend chime in eagerly, even expressing shared interests she didn’t know they shared, “Ah, Dahlia. You never told me you had an interest in editin’; I can help you learn how to splice analog film.” They had been so busy running from monsters and overcoming increasingly bizarre challenges they never really got the chance to really talk to one another, really, but at the very least, she knew that they both had seen Tremors.

Being caught up in all manner of tragedy had put home further away than it already was. She had yet to see what her home had become since she was whisked away to this Earth-Chan’s bizarre hodgepodge of science-fiction and fantasy that was once simply Earth. Wrapping her ahead around the pretty intuitive (and intimidating) concept of Neo-Tokyo, she tried to focus ANTHEM and Hana’s stated intentions. Even if there were gaps in her filmmaking potential, she still had the capability to help, “Ms. Sakuyuki, I would be honored.” She accepted, ready to take the plunge and see what had become of home. Once more, considering her friend’s nerves, she turned to companion, “Dahlia?”

But long before they could take a trip across whatever maelstrom consumed the Pacific, they had another person to formally meet. Taking in the rumors brewing as they passed. What little look she had gotten before didn’t do the cart and its occupants justice. Seeing was believing, and even in seeing Ume still failed to believe, no matter how many times she read the speech bubble. Pulling her camera from her inventory, she took a picture of DeeDee's monstrous friends, wondering if they had any acting experience. Luckily, she was hungry, and did, in fact, like tomatoes enough to only eat tomatoes for a meal. With a menu thrusted into her hand, she squinted. A dish in particular stood out to her, one of confounding redundancy and curious potential: “One tomato parmigiana, please?”

Dahlia found herself excited for the first time since she'd arrived in Earth-chan's world at the prospect of working computers and the like. The one thing she'd found truly connected in the past was media and the things that inspired it, and it sounded like there might be a place where she could really immerse herself in that again. Maybe even make her own show... though it would be far, far more dangerous in a world with actual ghouls and ghosts. Still, the prospect was exciting, if terrifying also.

Listening to Ume wax was itself inspiring, further adding to Dahlia's desire to learn. Though she had someone she needed to look for, it seemed like this world might have possibility yet. She found herself nodding too quickly in a mixture of enthusiasm and nerves at the idea of learning to splice analog, though she had no idea when she would ever need to do that. "A lot of the art of horror is in the editing , I feel. Not just the scares, either, but showcasing performances, creating and maintaining tension especially..." Dahlia felt exposed here having shared so much, but refreshed too. Hearing her name again though, she realized she hadn't actually said it once herself yet.

Another silly mistake that could surely lose her standing, Dahlia felt embarrassment again, ears going red and eyes wide. She anxiously blurted out "Yes, I'm Dahlia. I mean-" She covered her face with her hands and through her fingers continued "Yes, that sounds nice." They just had a little detour first before they could visit Neo-Tokyo..

The way the crowd whispered and remarked Dahlia was fully expecting a creature of some sort as if summoned by Earth-chan themselves, but her fears were assuaged slightly when they were just a short person. Her fears were of course rekindled at the sight of a coterie of actual monsters, especially the ones with no discernable mouth. Dahlia did her best to persevere, but continued to steal nervous looks at each of the creatures. The sheer amount of tomato based dishes was baffling, bordering on obsessive. Dahlia ate them sometimes but was always unable to part with the fact that they were related to nightshade, and that loud scared voice in the back of her mind would tell her one day Dahlia would eat a tomato and drop dead. Still, she was hungry and knew better than to let fear win. With a shaky voice she made her decree-

Her expression made it clear that was completely serious.

Dee Dee looked to the three and waved to them once more as her friends got the chairs and tables set up for the customers, the cooking surfaces were getting to temperature, and it seemed the new people that Hana had with her wanted some food a tomato parmigiana, and tomato falafel Respectively, and Dee Dee nodded to the two as she then looked to Hana that explained her own schedule was rather Erratic, on the mention of maybe showing up together Dee Dee gave a thumbs up "That sounds like a good Idea!" her Word bubble popped up to answer Hana before she started to get things ready for the food requested. Dee Dee then looked over at her Friends when Hana mentioned them "yeah it's nice having so many friends! But the more the merrier!" the Word bubble popped up to express as she continued to make the food "I think your friend is talking about her ability to use a camera to make better angles and the like for filming for movies or television!" Dee Dee translated for Hana when she looked at her for help about what Umeko had been talking about, as TreeDee, BombDee, and CaveDee, as well as Geist started to help her make the food, even making other orders from other people that had lined up. The group worked well moving and covering each other easily as they moved around each other getting food out quickly and efficiently, serving people on the plates they had and giving them juice to drink as she listened to what Hana was explaining and when her own guild came up Dee Dee blinked a bit "What? No it's not that impressive I don't think, but I did put a lot of work into it to make it as livable as possible, and I think it's nice and cozy!" the Word bubble popped up as she started to hand the two their food, as well as giving Hana a tomatonator meal with fries, All of them were also given juice to drink. She then continued to churn out food for all the people asking for meal, some asking for things off the Tomato Menu, and others asking for things off the non-Tomato menu and Dee Dee was filling all the orders with the help of her friend "So how are you guys doing? You seem new to the word as it is, so here take one of these!" Dee Dee's Word Bubble popped up as she handed the two new girls a Waddle-Dee Dee's Beginners Guide to the System, it was clearly hand made but well made regardless, and a Waddle-Dee version of Dee Dee on the cover waving with a word bubble over it saying "Lets learn together!" and the words "Don't Panic" Written in Big Friendly letters on the back cover.
