Alexei couldn't help but feel his heart wrench just slightly at Dee Dee's proclamation of helping people. There were a lot who would have taken advantage of this situation, and more than likely would have tried to make money or do their best in exploiting their knowledge in some shape or form. But Dee Dee, it seems, decided that it was all for the good of everyone. There was something in this that made Alexei feel inspired.

Maybe it was the way Dee Dee described her goal, or possibly just how strong her convictions were when it comes to helping new players. To Alexei, this was someone he found himself trusting without even a second of a doubt. There were few people Alexei trusted, and even fewer he trusted explicitly. This woman was one of those, and he was hoping the trust he was forming was not something he would regret later on.

"Your view of this world, and wanting to help people is very noble indeed." Alexei nodded, smiling softly with each word uttered. "I'm now curious if you ever had people who you work with that share your ideals?" He paused, scratching his chin as he thought of something, "Like a network of people who support new players in settling into the new world. The tutorial is great, but the dangers outside of it are real, and I feel like a lot of people might benefit from an organized group who specifically look towards helping new players." He can also see how veteran players might exploit this help by posing as new players.

Alexei finally realized who the person playing the instrument was. Cyrus. He was the guy who he had interactions with during their tutorial. The man seems to be in a predicament at the moment, and Alexei could not help but feel bad for him. Currently, he was unsure if he could take on slimes in that amount, though it seems Cyrus was lucky enough to have others who can help him.

He was about to turn away when he was pointed out by the woman who seemed to now be helping Cyrus. Without any recourse, Alexei nodded towards the woman, before stepping out of the shaded area where he had situated himself. "Cyrus, it's nice to see you, though in less than ideal circumstances." He started, eyes darting towards the slimes, before thumbing his saber's hilt, getting ready to act when necessary.

"I'm sure you're safe enough to come over. Just in case, however." He readied his skill to hopefully buy time for Cyrus to rush forward. He knew now that his skill can affect the movement of his enemies, which served him well right now if he needed it. "I didn't know monsters can group up in such numbers." For some reason, he thought that monsters work independently, but once again, he had learned something new. Something to keep in mind in the future as he started taking on missions.

[attr="class","alreescroll"] [Mission Link][break][break] Alexei felt himself grow just a bit more powerful in the past few days. It seems that all the work he has put in with completing the few missions he had been on had finally bore fruit. He had been prompted with leveling up, and he had taken the opportunity to invest his stats, as well as grab some mysterious loot, which provided him with more gear. So now, he was wearing a worn jacket and some new boots, alongside his saber, which glinted in the sun. [break][break] Bringing up the system interface, Alexei realized that he was at the spot he had been pointed towards. It seems that this place, New York City, had seen an uptick in slime population. Specifically along the coast, the slime population has slowly risen from controllable to semi-uncontrollable. Alexei knew, from Dee Dee's book, that these slimes must be water-based, which served well for his own skills, which were ice-based. Cool them down, and shatter them. Simple and easy. [break][break] Just as he was about to accept the mission and set out with the task, another information panel appeared. It seems that he was to be doing this with another person. That was well enough since another person would make this mission so much easier. The added benefit was the fact that another person in the group would surely make the extermination of these slimes so much faster. As well, from what he has read so far, his passive is leader-based, which means that working with people was what he was supposed to do. Providing a soaking up of damage of up to 10% three times isn't something to scoff at, apparently. [break][break] Leaning onto a cracked and almost-destroyed wall, Alexei waited for the arrival of his partner for this mission. He just hoped they didn't take too long to arrive. [break] |

They should be fine at this pace, especially since he wanted to make sure that Cyrus himself wasn't going to be too tired when they got to their destination. It was important that he was ready for a fight. [break][break] As they got closer, Alexei saw that his intuition was correct. There was a small ice shelve, and it had a cave that might have been dug out by a polar bear. They were known, after all, to make shelters by digging into snow drifts. This must've been the case as well. Alexei held up his hand to signal caution as they got closer. [break][break] "I'm unsure if the bear is in, but we should always err in caution." Alexei drew his saber as he slowly crept to the entrance. It was just big enough for a tall person to fit, and wide enough for three people abreast to fit together. "If you can hide us well, we can see what's inside first before deciding on anything." For all they know, the people might be inside waiting for rescue, and the polar bear might not be back yet. "What do you think? I can take the lead in as long as you keep us hidden."[break] |

Alexei nodded and smiled as he ordered the "Chef Choice". The result was a burger that had a roasted tomato in it. In fact, the tomato seemed to be the main course for this burger. He took a moment, before taking a huge bite of the burger. It took him a bit to chew it all, taking in all the flavours that seem to seep into his taste buds. Scrunching his face as he swallowed the last portion of his first bite. Slowly, he looked towards Dee Dee and gave her a thumbs up.

"I haven't had anything like this for a long time, Dee Dee." Truly, it had been a long time since he's had a burger. He's had to hunt his food the past few days, subsisting on berries and other buts and fruits he had been able to scrounge up during his time in the wilderness of this new land. Having something prepared like this was heaven, truly. He savoured each of his bite now, small but big enough to get his taste buds tingling and satisfied.

Alexei sighed in satisfaction, "This is a great idea, Dee Dee. I'm sure all of these people miss this kind of food." He nodded, continuing after swallowing another bite. "I'm sure they're all very grateful for you, and for the food you provide." Alexei knew he would have to come back here and visit once he had more points. "I'm also very grateful that you help out new people like me. I've learned quite a bit from your book! Why did you decide to write that book?" It was such a great resource, and something Alexei would be looking at and referencing for a very long time. "And would you mind if I pass it on one day?"

Alexei looked around at the shop that Dee Dee was in. So this must be what Dee Dee was talking about when she had mentioned her selling food. Maximum Tomato, it read on the sign above. Alexei himself found it both very curious, and interesting at the same time. Without pause, he made strides towards the food cart, and perused the menu.

Glancing at Dee Dee, he started, "So, this is your famed food cart." Alexei smiled in a friendly manner, before continuing, "I would love to get something from your cart, though I'm unsure what to get." Nor did he have any money, if he was being fair. Sure, he was able to accumulate "points", but he was unsure if that was the payment he needed to do. Or was it a different currency?

Speaking of carts, Alexei wondered out loud, "I was also curious, how did you start this food cart?" Was it a skill of hers? Possibly she got some funding from the system? Or perhaps even through the system? "It's a very good idea." Alexei complemented her, looking around to make sure he's not holding anybody back from the line.

Alexei found himself wandering the city of London.

He had been told previously that this was a safe zone, for the most part. Looking around, he wondered just how much this place had changed since he had first come here during his childhood and teen years. His family had always been very open to traveling, making sure that their son is well-traveled and learned. London had been one of his favourite destinations due to its history, as well as how much the British Monarchy is tied with the now defunct Russian Monarchy. Alexei himself has some form of English ancestry through his mother's side, a Countess who married into the Russian nobility.

There was no denying it. This place is a mere shadow of what he knew of London. It had saddened him somewhat, though he knew that these sentimental feelings wouldn't last. Buildings and monuments never lasted forever. History, however, can, as long as someone is alive to tell the tales.

Broken from his reverie, Alexei soon found himself walking the snug streets of London's finest. There was still much he needed to learn, and this was apparent after completing the escorting supplies mission. There were too many unknowns, and Alexei needed to still figure it all out. Just as he was going to head into one of the side streets, he spotted someone.

"Dee Dee, it's nice to see you." Alexei waved with a small smile.

Alexei slowly made his way toward one of the dingy bars that was currently open at this time of the night. Well, he really didn't have much of a choice. Since the world had been recreated, reshaped, and remade, there wasn't much that cities could offer. Of course, there were the necessities. But establishments like these were few and far between, only ever seen in safe zones. That was what he missed the most, the Russian ballads being sung in the countryside bars which he frequented during his deployment time.

Slowly entering, he found himself assaulted by light and noise. It seems that there were many players here tonight, and if Alexei were to place his bets, it was like this every night. Shaking his head, he fought his way through the throngs of people. He finally managed to get himself across the barkeep, an NPC who seemed to be just as unenthused as Alexei was.

"Vodka." Alexei ordered, raising two fingers to indicate how many shots he would like. The barkeep nodded, grunting as he poured Alexei his shot glasses. After paying the measly amount, Alexei drew himself closer to the counter and examined the environment. He still had a lot to learn about this place, this city, this new world that they found themselves in. He watched as players milled about in small groups, chatting, interacting, and generally just having a great time. Oh how he missed his friends, his home, and how much did this scene remind him of them. He was about to turn back to the barkeep for another round of shots when something caught his eye.

Turning to his right, he called out, "Heimdall." The name of his once-partner during his second mission. It seems the man found himself here as well after their task had been completed.

Alexei himself has had varying types of food, mostly scavenged or hunted by himself. A food cart, though? That was an interesting way of doing things. He had not seen much of those, possibly because he had decided to keep away from overpopulated places. [break][break] "A food cart? I hope business has been going well." He nodded appreciatively at the tomato still in his hand. "And as for your point on stats, travel, and how different everything is, you're certainly right." Alexei paused, before continuing slowly, "I'm still acclimating to the...situation we're in. It's been an overhaul of what I used to believe, and what is true now." He looked around, realizing that they were truly, in fact, very close to the village of their destination. [break][break] As they neared, Alexei made sure to have the caravan safely escorted into the village premises. They were both handed the rewards in quick succession and off their clients went to deliver their goods. Alexei turned to Dee Dee and bowed slightly. "Thank you again for the help today. I appreciate your time, and your explanations. I hope to see you again some day soon." With a friendly smile, Alexei turned and walked towards the village proper. The tune that the man was humming earlier must've been the cause, though he was unsure how it truly works. Of course, he was unsure of how everything works at this point. He was clueless, and he didn't like it one bit. [break][break] What he did know, or at least realize, is what these prints look like. "Polar Bear." Alexei muttered, tracing the size of the paw with his fingers. He had seen enough of these in the northern camps of Russia, where the wilderness met man in full force, and almost always won. There were no high winds here, at least at this point in time. This meant that these prints could be a few hours, to a few days old. This predator was tracking its prey. Just as he was about to tell Cyrus, a notification popped up that said something along the lines of saving five surveyors. So this was it then. [break][break] "We'll need to hurry." Alexei stood up to full height, taking a gander at the direction the prints went. "I can't discern just how long these prints have been here. If these five surveyors are still alive, they might be fighting for their lives right now." He turned to Cyrus now, nodding at him encouragingly. "I hope you don't mind sprinting. We have some catching up to do." With that, Alexei started a slower sprint pace towards the direction of the paw prints, with the looming high shelf of ice ascending from the horizon. "We might find them there!" Pointing towards the ice shelf. An ice cave might keep the surveyors alive, if they were able to barricade the entrance well enough. He could only hope. [break] |

Alexei made his way in after watching Heimdall do his work with the remaining gnomes. There was something familiar about the man, something that felt akin to his own. Alexei had thought "military" prior, and he was more sure now than ever. He wouldn't ask though, at least not yet. That would be a bit unprofessional. No, it was better he do it later on.

After breaking the sheep free, the hardest part was slowly herding them back to the shepherd. The five missing sheep seem to be in sound condition if not a bit traumatized by what had happened to them. Alexei did his best to ignore the fact that at least one of the sheep smelt like ash. He was sure that the shepherd wouldn't mind either, to be fair. They were all recovered, after all.

Taking their rewards, Alexei bowed slightly to the older gentleman, before saving at Heimdall. "It was good working with you, Heimdall." He paused, before continuing slowly, "I hope we meet each other again soon. Keep safe out there." Alexei nodded respectfully at the man, before making his own way out of the area. It was time for a small rest before he continued on exploring the area.

Alexei abruptly stopped his sprint, using the momentum to turn back around as he heard Heimdall use his ability. The destructive power of the man was definitely awe-striking. Alexei himself wasn't too comfortable with the heat that was emanating, but that was another matter. Instead, he would focus on the next part.

Pivoting in his stance, Alexei felt the rush of the skill pulsing through his veins. In a snap, he found the magic pouring through his saber as he slashed in an arc. "White Out." Immediately a torrent of snow rushed towards the already-confused gnomes. This would be the nail in the coffin, however. The skill would envelop the small entrance of the cave, blinding them in the process. The howls of the gnomes would be a song for Alexei, as he quickly met the gnomes that were now staggering out of the ice and fire.

In his head, he was counting them off. One, two, three. Each of the gnomes staggered out in pain, confusion, and blindness. The synergy between Alexei and Heimdall worked wonders in such a small area. Truth be told, Alexei himself didn't know if it would truly work, and yet it did.

"Let's wait and see if any of them still stagger out. There should be around five." Alexei warned as he kept his saber at the ready. "Then we can go in and get this mission over with." He wasn't sure whether Heimdall could fight, but nonetheless, he wanted to be sure that there were no other surprises for them. The wintery mix, coupled with volcanic ash, would have been a death sentence to anyone in the real world. Here? It was an entirely different playing field.

It seems that the goblins do in fact work with each other, and their coordination was something that he should get used to. He certainly wouldn't have been able to take care of that alone, after all. While the goblins were weak, they made up for it with their numbers. He'll have to file that away for future missions that might involve them. [break][break] He nodded gratefully after reading the last message. "Thank you. I really appreciate that you've taken the time to help me understand all of these things." He paused a moment, "I'm not really used to this kind of stuff, and I have to be honest with you, I really don't know what a Tomatonator is?" Alexei scratched his head in embarrassment. [break][break] Looking around, he continued. "I suppose we should continue this trip." Alexei waved to the caravan, most of whom had hid while the fighting was happening. It seems that they were rearing to go. "Do you happen to know if we're close to our destination?" He looked around, hand now actively fiddling with the hilt of his saber. Letting the sheep graze on its own, Alexei turned to Heimdall, who had been responding to his queries. Heimdall taking the lead would give them the opportunity to react in a much better way. It seems that his specialty is large area damage, while Alexei's own is more mid-ranged, as well working in a group. In a sense, if Alexei could harness Heimdall's abilties, they might just be able to work in unision.

Alexei nodded as he let Heimdall take the lead. He had been mulling over what the best strategy for their group would be, and found himself striking gold as they found the entrance of a cave. The baaing of the sheep coming from inside was clue enough that this was most likely the place they had been searching for. When Heimdall gave his idea, Alexei nodded, before pitching his own.

"Hold off on using your skill. I'll lead them to the mouth of the cave. Once I clear the entrance, drop your skill on top of the gnomes that I lead out." Alexei would point towards the spot where he would be taking his position after running out. "I'll then use one of my skills to take them all in unison alongside your own skill." White Out would be the best skill used in this scenario.

Quickly, Alexei rushed in, making as little sound as possible until he reached a circular cavern that housed the sheep in pens. Inside, he counted five more gnomes. A couple were milling about, while the rest were securing the pens. They seemed to be expecting that the trap would work against whoever was sent against them. Alexei knew what he had to do. Drawing his saber, he forced himself out into the open, waving his saber around and yelling, "Your friends are all dead! Let's see if the rest of you are as easy to kill as they were!" Before anything else, he started running back to the entrance of the cave. He heard the clamouring as the gnomes quickly took up pursuit.

"Now, Heimdall!" Alexei shouted as he cleared the entrance of the cave. The gnomes were still in hot pursuit and were at his heels. Alexei hoped Heimdall was ready, and that this plan would work.

Alexei was ready. When he heard the man shout for him to move, he quickly shouted to his golem, "Push!" Immediately, his golem pushed him forward, providing him with the momentum he needed. It was necessary since he was now hugging a sheep as he tumbled forward and just out of reach of whatever Heimdall had planned.

The blast burned the area. It was about a meter, from what he can see, but it was still very devastating. The goblins seemed to be blistering, yet they still stood. Alexei knew it was his turn. Without his golem, he only really had one skill left he can use. But he didn't want to burn through those yet. No, he would do this traditionally.

Alexei left the sheep go as he sprang towards the burnt and stunned gnomes. In a flash, Alexei stabbed the first in its chest. The rest were too slow to react, still reeling from the fire blast. Using this momentum, he turned to the next gnome and attacked it without mercy. As he turned to the final one, the one that was certainly in the middle of the blast zone, he realized that it had taken the brunt of the damage. It was on its knees, skin smoldering, almost lifeless. Alexei watched the creature a moment, before shouting, "It seems like your skill is going to finish this one off in a few moments." Keeping his saber trained towards the gnome, he watched in fascination as the burns slowly chipped away at the gnome's health. This Heimdall guy certainly isn't one to be messed with.

"Maybe you should take the lead next time." Alexei chuckled, having watched the gnome slowly dissipate. "That was a hell of a skill. Looking towards the sheep, he quickly urged it to the side, out of harm's way. "It would've been nice to question one of them as to where they took the rest though. But from what we've seen, they're organized. They must be somewhere further up. Hopefully, the rest of the sheep are there as well." That was his theory, at least.
