His blurry vision was slowly clearing itself up, and as he rubbed his eyes, he found himself shivering. Rubbing his hand together, he found snow on his fingertips and hand-creases. This got him quickly scrambling up, pulling his fur-lined cloak close as he observed his surroundings. [break][break] Nothing. There was nothing but snow all around him. What had he been doing prior to getting here? A notification. A class? And before that? He remember being in his quarters looking forward to going home for a well-deserved visit. And in a flash, he was gone. There was something else he was slowly remembering. Something about The Light. [break][break] "What in the world..." Alexei whispered to himself, before realizing that something was blocking his vision. It had a message, and as he read it further, Alexei realized that this was not a dream at all. No, this was what the "thing" had been telling him before he appeared here. A tutorial. "A Search and Rescue mission. Hm." He lifted his hand as though to scroll through the message, but it obeyed his mental command instead. A research team that had been lost in this icy expanse must be found within the time limit, or else. Or else indeed. [break][break] Looking around, Alexei realized he was not alone. [break] |

A chirping noise pierced into Cyrus' eardrums as he started to lift himself from the freezing hellscape in front of him. What in the actual hell was this?! The cold should pierce through his light clothing but for some reason didn't hold that much pain on his skin. He looked down, seeing different clothes on than what he remembered. A menu showing in front of him.

Apparently, there was a group of missing people here. That didn’t seem too surprising, given the location. The artic seemed like an easy place to get lost. Cyrus looked around, and noticed a man with white hair similar to his, with quite a different haircut, standing looking confused as well. This seemed like it was the start of something that neither of them really understood. The screen popped up from Earth-Chan giving information about a class selection. He looked confused, looking around the screen to see if the other man saw what he was seeing. It looked as if he had his own thing going on.

"You seeing this?!" He said, in a loud enough tone that the unknown man could hear him. He quickly tried to read through the classes, not knowing how much of a vital role this decision would play in the next phase of his life.

[attr="class","alreescroll"] [Tutorial][break][break] "Winter General." Alexei whispered to himself. He had been reading every single thing that popped up for him, and one of them had been "classes". Winter General appealed to him most, and him whispering the name immediately engaged the system to choosing it for him. In a flash, he felt a sort of bolstering to his body. The feeling was both odd, and yet soothing at the same time. As though he was returning home, a yearning that he never knew he had, resolved. [break][break] He glanced towards the other person who seemed to have been dropped here alongside himself. "I think I just selected something." Alexei commented, before something else popped up. It was directions on how to party up with someone. It seems that the system is prompting them to work together on this mission, or whatever it's called. "It's telling me to party you up."[break][break] Going through the motions, Alexei sent the invitation towards the person with him. He wasn't really sure what to expect, but he knew he had to do his best to both survive, as well learn through this experience. Tutorial, it was called. That means this was meant to be a training of sorts. That, at least, Alexei can understand. [break][break] "Do you know what this is all about?" He asked with ease, settling himself as he took in the surroundings. As he did so, he was prompted with another screen that outlined his abilities. Terms like Commander's Presence, White Out, and Winter Soldier popped up, with their descriptions summarily below each of them. Scanning each one, he realized what these terms are for. They were his skills, things he can do to interact with his surroundings, mainly enemies. Things were getting truly interesting. [break] |

Choose a class. He got a quick description of each, finally deciding on the cheerful bard class. It was a support class that would be able to help people, which sounded like a good option.

His body didn't change much but he started to see attributes that were important for his class and different abilities. Reading through them he muttered to himself about needing to memorize the classes, that it wouldn't be easy to remember them. The party invite came through and with a click of his finger they were in a party, showing their level 1 status, this was a game. They were able to level up, it felt like a teenager's dream. A point system to level up and purchase things, this was going to be interesting.

"A lot of my skills look like they are to help my party. Looks like I'll be your backup. Any ideas on how to move forward?" Cyrus asked peering through the snow, so their first step was to look for a place where these people could go missing, right? He thought to himself about how anywhere in this white blizzard would be easy to get lost.

He pointed, before realizing he had read something about this prior. "I think that's one of my...skills. It's supposed to take a portion of damage you take." Alexei continued, his brow scrunched as he tried to remember more. "And...something about lowering ice and snow-based ability effectiveness." That would be very useful, especially where they were at the moment. [break][break] Taking a look around, he continued. "My abilities are a mix of aggressive, as well as group-based ones." Alexei took a step forward, before looking down on the ground. He spotted indents on the side. No, not indents. They were tracks. Sled, possibly. He bents down, letting his hand run through the tracks. They were fading, more than likely because of the slow gusts here in the arctic. They were, however, visible enough to follow. [break][break] "It looks like the people we are looking for were heading that way." He pointed towards the direction where the tracks led. "I'm unsure how far these tracks go, but if we were dropped here, and this was left as a clue, then we can safely assume that we're meant to follow." Alexei got up, dusting his pants of the snow. Cyrus shrugged his shoulders, he motioned that he was going to be behind Alexei as the trail was going to run cold if they didn't start to follow it. He couldn't see a snowflake on Alexei's head, so it must have been that ability that he was mentioning. Cyrus looked over his abilities again, trying to figure out if there was something he could do to help them. "Well, I could hide us apparently. Not sure how much that will help us in a search and rescue though. Glad you have something to help lower damage, cause..." Cyrus read over his stats. "This Vitality stat isn't the best." He chuckled, worried about how much damage that meant he could take. In other video games, supports always seemed like a glass cannon.

"Name's Cyrus by the way. If we got the same tutorial mission, must mean that we both are gonna be useful for it. Right?" He said hopeful that his thoughts would come to fruition. He was slightly worried that the cold would hold him back, if he was a bard that would mean he would need to be heard, or at least that was his assumption. However, he couldn't see that in any of the descriptions. The only thing he was able to recognize was there was a cooldown for when he could switch what ability was active. Managing cooldowns, this really was like a video game.

"I assume if you have offensive capabilities that you have a good weapon yea?" Cyrus said jokingly, he was curious as to what the different classes would offer.

The place was barren and reminded him of his days in the northern training camps where officers were debriefed of State Secrets. Alexei sighed, realizing that whatever life he had prior, he wouldn't have it here. This was a different world. A different place. A new beginning. And that wasn't so bad at all. [break][break] Not breaking his stride, Alexei responded to Cyrus. "Alexei. Nice to meet you." He hadn't thought about how the man could understand him. Cyrus didn't look Russian at all. That was, after all, the least of his worries. "You said something about the Vitality stat? Mine is low too." There was a short pause, "So I think that's where your hiding abilities might come in handy." [break][break] As the subject turned to weapons, Alexei found his right-hand perched on something on his belt. He looked down, realizing it was a handle. A sword handle, to be exact. Carefully unsheathing the weapon, he slowly realized what weapon it was. The Pozharsky's Saber, a relic of the Russian Monarchy, and part of the Russian Treasury. He had only seen it once in his life, but many more in his dreams. "It seems...I do have a good weapon." Alexei twirled the saber around, testing its balance, before sheathing it once again. He would need to carefully examine it later on. [break][break] "Wait." Alexei stopped, holding his hand up as he pointed ahead. There was a looming outcrop that looked to be a small hill of sorts. It certainly was not a mountain, after all, the polar ice caps were just that, ice. It must be an ice shelf. Looking down, he found himself staring at prints. "Do you see this?" Alexei motioned for Cyrus to join him, pointing towards the set of prints that were now just visible to them. Were they animal prints? But what kind of animal would even be in this place? [break] |

Oh no, they both had low vitality stats? Cyrus felt that being hidden may be for the best, or at least until they were to a point that they needed to be loud. With a quick humming tune, he jokingly started to hum the pink panther theme song, not knowing if Alexei would catch his joke. The Song of Silence ability started, with a hidden status effect going on to the top of their heads.

The snow surrounding them only hid the tracks for a moment as they got closer to the area. The hills looked like they were hidden in the snowing landscape, but with Alexei’s help Cyrus was able to notice them. He nodded slightly as he watched the tracks.

"Let’s figure this out. Quick before whatever is tracking them gets a hold of them." Cyrus said, with a facade hiding his fear. Even if this was a game, it felt real. He assumed the pain he could feel would feel real as well. It was time to figure it out fast, and with Alexei and him hiding, it was going to be able to figure out what was there.

The tune that the man was humming earlier must've been the cause, though he was unsure how it truly works. Of course, he was unsure of how everything works at this point. He was clueless, and he didn't like it one bit. [break][break] What he did know, or at least realize, is what these prints look like. "Polar Bear." Alexei muttered, tracing the size of the paw with his fingers. He had seen enough of these in the northern camps of Russia, where the wilderness met man in full force, and almost always won. There were no high winds here, at least at this point in time. This meant that these prints could be a few hours, to a few days old. This predator was tracking its prey. Just as he was about to tell Cyrus, a notification popped up that said something along the lines of saving five surveyors. So this was it then. [break][break] "We'll need to hurry." Alexei stood up to full height, taking a gander at the direction the prints went. "I can't discern just how long these prints have been here. If these five surveyors are still alive, they might be fighting for their lives right now." He turned to Cyrus now, nodding at him encouragingly. "I hope you don't mind sprinting. We have some catching up to do." With that, Alexei started a slower sprint pace towards the direction of the paw prints, with the looming high shelf of ice ascending from the horizon. "We might find them there!" Pointing towards the ice shelf. An ice cave might keep the surveyors alive, if they were able to barricade the entrance well enough. He could only hope. [break] |

Cyrus nodded as Alexei spoke. It for sure looked big like a polar bear, even though he hoped with every fiber of his being it wasn't. He looked and compared the two body types of the party, recognizing that he was much smaller than Alexei. Or at least in his mind he was, as a support he figured his muscles would be smaller than most. That polar bear would probably get one good swipe in and Cyrus would be flying across the room like a rag doll.

"Yep! I can sprint, though I may not be as fast as you since I'm not really used to the snow..." He honestly would show very quickly that he was not ready to run. His legs were wobbly and he almost slipped a few times. But he kept a decent pace and didn't fall too far behind the winter soldier running in front of him.

The ice that appeared in front of them quickly showed a potential hide away. As he was running he placed his hands on his forehead to try and shield some of the light coming to his eyes to see a little better. Trying to find a place where they could be hiding, he only hoped that they wouldn't be too late. And He only hoped that it was only a polar bear that had them trapped.

They should be fine at this pace, especially since he wanted to make sure that Cyrus himself wasn't going to be too tired when they got to their destination. There was a small ice shelve, and it had a cave that might have been dug out by a polar bear. They were known, after all, to make shelters by digging into snow drifts. This must've been the case as well. Alexei held up his hand to signal caution as they got closer. [break][break] "I'm unsure if the bear is in, but we should always err in caution." Alexei drew his saber as he slowly crept to the entrance. It was just big enough for a tall person to fit, and wide enough for three people abreast to fit together. Cyrus nodded as they started looking at the shelf, it was time to be hidden. Well, it was a good thing that the status effect was already over the head of both of them. He smiled as he pointed toward the status effects. There was a small blueish tint to both of them, "That emoji that shows someone silencing another is my melody... As long as whatever we come across has a lower..." Cyrus opened his menu, "WIL stat that my PWR stat we will stay hidden. I think we are good to go."

Cyrus motioned that he was going to follow behind Alexei, having his guitar ready to go in case he needed to let out a Jam Out or some other type of melody. He wasn't sure it was time for him to be able to use the other. He looked around the outside of the area, seeing some human footprints with some animal prints behind them rushing in this direction. Seems like Alexei was a much better scout than Cyrus. Now let's hope that Cyrus had a good enough power stat.

The status symbol was something he had noticed, but the mystery itself was solved when Cyrus explained it a bit further. It seems like they were as ready as they can ever be. After all, Alexei didn't have anything else he could do. [break][break] Without another word, Alexei led them inside. The light from the outside seemed to illuminated the entrance and the immediate vicinity. As they took their first few steps in, however, Alexei noticed a waved red and orange light, as well as people shouting! His vision adjusting to less bright surroundings, he immediately realized that a group of five people were huddled at the very back of the cave, while three of them were waving torches that were barely alit against an enormous hulking polar bear. [break][break] Alexei knew there really was only one way to deal with this, and he was sure he was going to regret it. "Cyrus, I'm counting on you to get those surveyors out as quickly as you can. Use this cloaking skill you have with them." Alexei paused only to ready himself for his task. "I'm going to take the polar bear's attention while you do it. Do not look back." He didn't want the man to see him get mauled, which Alexei was sure would happen. "Go!" He motioned, before roaring at the polar bear, immediately catching the attention of the polar bear. Well, they didn't get much time to plan, unfortunately. Watching Alexei jump forward towards the polar bear to take its attention away, he felt confused about what to do. In order for them all to be a part of his hidden status he would have to be within 15 meters of each of them and have them all in his party. The other option would be to buff Alexei and let him keep the attention of the bear as he told the other five to run.

Cyrus ran over to the group of people as he watched the polar bear turn its attention to Alexei. "Hi. Name's Cyrus. No time for pleasantries. GO!" Cyrus started to mush them around, pushing through a near crevice and pointing to the entrance that the two of them came in through. As he watched the majority of them start to escape, he looked at the mission objective and only saw 3/5 had been rescued. When turning back, he saw two of the people with torches still stuck in fear.

"Alexei is strong and I'll help him..." Cyrus said, playing a melodic chord on his guitar to play Jam Out. A melodic stream of rainbow colors started to fly off his guitar as all three of his melodies went active. He knew it wouldn't last long but hoped it gave Alexei enough Power and Vitality to take care of the polar bear as he moved the last two to safety.

But Alexei's immediate reaction was to take the brunt, while Cyrus did his best to get all of the surveyors out. From what Alexei had gathered, Cyrus was a bit better with supporting, which is what the surveyors might need to get out of the cave alive. A hunrgy polar bear was not going to let its prey leave without a fight. A very nasty, horrid, fight. [break][break] "Come on." Alexei grunted as he had to lunge away from a swipe. This polar bear was no ordinary creature. It's larger than normal state, the sharper fangs and claws made it look more feral. This must be the System's doing. Just as he was about to rush back in, he felt himself feel stronger. That was when he noticed that Cyrus's skill was pouring to him. The man was skilled indeed, and this would give him the boost he would need. [break][break] An idea popped up, and he immediately accessed one of his skills. "Winter Soldier, arise." Without delay, a replica of a man in standard uniform holding a saber appeared beside him. He, or it, was made of ice. Alexei grinned, before ordering it to, "attack from the left", while he took the right. The pincer maneuver, supported by Cyrus' buff, would hopefully be enough to keep ther creature at bay as Cyrus helped the surveyors leave the cave. [break] |
