Mission LinkHeimdall had spent the past new weeks traveling around North America. The red-haired man had no real destination in mind and was more or less just sightseeing and getting used to his new superpowers. At least, that's what he referred to them as when no one else was around. So far, his travels had avoided most significant towns or settlements until he arrived at his current location, which locals and other wayward travelers called Hollow Hills. Heimdall had initially planned to spend little time in the area; he just wanted to look around and take the sights in before heading on his way again. However, that all changed as he made his way toward the end of the town and ran into a shepherd that looked more stressed out than one normally should. Heimdall would then go over to the old man, pacing back and forth until he noticed the red-haired man approaching him." What have you so worried old timer?" The older man would take a few moments to respond as it seemed he was looking over Heimdall as if he was judging the man for something. Perhaps because of Heimdall's Norwegian accent, he didn't fully understand what the younger man said. As such, Heimdall was getting ready to speak again before stopping as the old man spoke. "These damn gnomes in the area have been scaring my sheep all week long, and they've gone and spooked 'em all off into the mountains this time, and I'm too old nowadays to go searching for the damn things." Heimdall would slowly nod his head along as the man spoke. "That does sound like a real pain in the ass. I can find the sheep for you if you want. I can also try and take care of those gnomes if you want." This time the old man would waste no time in giving his response. "I don't care what happens to those gnomes so long as I can get my sheep back." Heimdall would once again nod his head in understanding before getting ready to leave and make his way toward the mountain a few miles away.

Alexei found himself wandering along the North American mountains, just along whatever town he had previously found himself in. His task was simple: get to know what landscapes were left from the "event". Not only were cities changed, but even the countryside that he knew and loved, as well as places of attractions, had metamorphosed.

He was, however, here for a specific reason. Alexei was tipped off earlier that there might be a mission here. One of the players he had had an interaction with told him of the importance of missions. Something along the lines of it helping out with levelling up. Alexei was never too attached to his game consoles growing up, but he knew enough to understand the gist of things. And so, he was here, making his way to two figures just a few steps away.

Without prompting, the mission parameters were shown to him in a window. He had gotten used to this now, and it seems, he would have a partner once again. "Hello." Alexei would greet the red-haired man with a wave. "I suppose you're here for the mission as well?" He asked, with a welcoming smile on his face. "I don't suppose you don't mind partying up together? I was told it makes everything just a bit easier for nearly everything in this...new world of ours." It was true, and to be fair, it was true too in the other world, the real world they had left behind. "Alexei." He offered, hand outstretched for a shake in greeting.

As Heimdall went to take his leave, he'd stop and turn around as he heard a pair of footsteps approaching him and the old man. Once he did, he would come face to face with another player around the same height as he was. The red-haired man would listen as the other man gave his own greeting. "Hallo." The response came in Heimdall's native language and out of habit more than anything else. Luckily for him, it seemed that everyone in this world was able to understand any language, so it wasn't exactly like the other man would be confused about what he had said. As the question of the mission came about, Heimdall would nod his head as he spoke. "Yeah, I'm here for the same thing. Though I didn't know it was a mission, I'm still getting used to everything in this new world."
The blonde-haired man wasn't wrong that working as a team would make things easier. After all, there was strength in numbers. "Sure, I don't mind working together better to have someone watching your back, even more so in an unknown world." Heimdall would shake the other man's hand as he gave his own. "You can call me Heimdall." With the introductions out the way, the red-haired man would start making his way towards the mountain again. After a few minutes of walking, Heimdall would turn and look at Alexei. "I don't suppose you'd happen to know what part of a mountain sheep's like to gather at, would you?"

Alexei shook the man's hand. Heimdall. He knew that name well. The guardian of the Bifrost, the Norse god of the bridge to Valhalla. That was, in and of itself, something that humoured Alexei. Here was the guardian to the Bifrost, and they were now in another world, transported just like from the Bifrost itself. And yet, instead of Valhalla, they get this wasteland to call home now. The irony was there, he was sure of it.

Yet, the man looked decent enough. Someone who he could trust, at the very least. He had an assured air about him, which reminded him of his comrades back in Russia. "Good to meet you, Heimdall." Alexei then turned towards the hilly area. If he were to guess, then the sheep would be in the pastures right now. But he heard something about gnomes, the tail end of the conversation between Heimdall and the man.

"My guess is that they were taken and hidden, possibly along the hills." Alexei pointed towards the landscape, "It would be easy enough for the creatures to have small caves dug out from the hillside. Possibly the more rocky outcrops." He shrugged, before making the first move. "Let's head out now, we might even be able to spot them still herding their capture if we hurry." It was a gamble, a hopeful wish.

Heimdall listened as Alexei gave his thoughts on where exactly the sheep might have gone. He supposed it made sense after all. Why would the gnomes bother the old man if they didn't plan on stealing his sheep? "I suppose that's true since they'd need to keep them out of sight until they're ready to butcher one. So I agree that our best bet would be to look for some sort of cave." With the plan of where the two men would begin their search Heimdall wasted no time heading out with the blonde-haired man. After twenty minutes of walking, the two men would finally arrive at the base of the hill. "Now the fun begins. It'd be faster if we split up, but I don't think that'd be a good idea since we know about the gnomes in the area."

Assuming the other man was fine sticking together, Heimdall would start making his way up the hill keeping an eye out for sheep or gnomes alike while looking back every so often to make sure the Alexei was able to keep up. After about ten minutes of looking, the red-haired man would spot a lone sheep tied to a rock. Upon seeing this, he would hold up his hand and motion for the other man to stop before pointing out the sheep. "Alright, so this is clearly a trap, most likely an ambush for whoever tries to untie the sheep." Heimdall would then look around for a few moments trying to spot any hidden gnomes but was unable to. "So the best way, I think, for us to deal with this is to have one of us stay back while the other heads over to the sheep. Basically, ambush their ambush. I'll let you pick who does which role, as it doesn't matter to me either way."

Alexei nodded along as they made their way across the expanse. One of the things that ran through his mind is the fact that the mission itself had them walking through an open hilly terrain. Cover was not something easily found, and therefore, with each step they took, Alexei made sure to keep an eye out for traps or another sort of ambush. He was tense, to say the least.

"You're right, splitting up wouldn't be the best idea." He agreed. Alexei himself was new, though he wasn't sure just how new this other person, Heimdall, was to this new world of theirs. Alexei needed to gain more experience, tackle more challenging obstacles, and gain the necessary "power-ups" to be able to be successful in this new world they found themselves in. Right now, he was still a newbie. It was better to rely on twice the manpower for this task.

Looking towards where he pointed, Alexei slowly nodded to the man's conclusions. This was definitely a trap. "I can go in first. I've wanted to try this skill of mine for a bit now, and this would be a good opportunity to do so." Alexei quickly pulled up the skill, preparing himself. "I'm sure they'll spring up quickly once they realize I'm alone. You can counter-ambush." With that, Alexei crept towards the sheep that was tied.

In hindsight, it probably was better for him to have used the skill first. Instead, he opted until he found a gnome grinning at him, a spear pointed menacingly. Alexei didn't even get too close to the sheep before three gnomes popped up from below the ground, cornering him in a triangular formation. They growled and sneered. Instead of responding to their jeers, Alexei quickly cast his spell. "Winter Soldier, arise." A golem made of snow appeared behind Alexei, saber already drawn and at the ready. "Protect my back." Alexei ordered, lunging towards one of the three gnomes, aiming his saber at its throat. He was hoping Heimdall would spring his trap now.

As Alexei volunteered to be the one to spring the trap stating he wanted to try one of his skills, Heimdall would move out of the open and towards a grouping of rocks near them. After all, the counter-ambush wouldn't work out too well if he just stood out in the open. "Alright, but try and move them away from the sheep as my skills are an area of effect, so it'll hit everything, including you. Don't worry. I'll yell for you to get out of the way before I use one so you don't get caught in the crossfire." With his warning given to the other man Heimdall grabbed the ember floating next to him as he prepared to use his skill once Alexie sprung the ambush. The red-haired man looked around the edge of the rocks as he heard the blonde-haired man activate his own ability summoning a golem made of snow.

As soon as the three gnomes appeared out of the ground, Heimdall would step out from behind his cover. "Alright, Alexie get out of the way; otherwise, this is going to hurt!" With his warring yelled out, the red-haired man would crush the ember in his hand, turning it into ash. "giantsflame" As he spoke the name of his skill, a blast of fire descended from the sky, striking the gnome closest to him before the blast expanded in size to a total of 1.4 meters, hitting the other two gnomes as well as Alexie's golem. As the skill burned the targets, it would not only actually burn them but also debuff them with his [burn] debuff. As a result, Heimdall could feel his power and magic increase due to his passive.

Alexei was ready. When he heard the man shout for him to move, he quickly shouted to his golem, "Push!" Immediately, his golem pushed him forward, providing him with the momentum he needed. It was necessary since he was now hugging a sheep as he tumbled forward and just out of reach of whatever Heimdall had planned.

The blast burned the area. It was about a meter, from what he can see, but it was still very devastating. The goblins seemed to be blistering, yet they still stood. Alexei knew it was his turn. Without his golem, he only really had one skill left he can use. But he didn't want to burn through those yet. No, he would do this traditionally.

Alexei left the sheep go as he sprang towards the burnt and stunned gnomes. In a flash, Alexei stabbed the first in its chest. The rest were too slow to react, still reeling from the fire blast. Using this momentum, he turned to the next gnome and attacked it without mercy. As he turned to the final one, the one that was certainly in the middle of the blast zone, he realized that it had taken the brunt of the damage. It was on its knees, skin smoldering, almost lifeless. Alexei watched the creature a moment, before shouting, "It seems like your skill is going to finish this one off in a few moments." Keeping his saber trained towards the gnome, he watched in fascination as the burns slowly chipped away at the gnome's health. This Heimdall guy certainly isn't one to be messed with.

"Maybe you should take the lead next time." Alexei chuckled, having watched the gnome slowly dissipate. "That was a hell of a skill. Looking towards the sheep, he quickly urged it to the side, out of harm's way. "It would've been nice to question one of them as to where they took the rest though. But from what we've seen, they're organized. They must be somewhere further up. Hopefully, the rest of the sheep are there as well." That was his theory, at least.

Heimdall stood in place as he watched Alexei dodge his blast by the skin of his teeth; however, it seemed his golem wasn't as lucky. The only reason Heimdall didn't join in helping the other man finish off the sheep thief was if one was to attack him, he would have no choice but to use gaintsfire once again to defend himself, and unlike last time, the chance of not hitting Alexie or the sheep were close to zero. As such, in reality, Heimdall had no choice but to sit back and let another finish the job. As Alexie called over to Heimdall, the red-haired man made his way over to the other man standing next to him as they watched as his burns overtook the last of the gnomes.

As the blonde-haired man mentioned that Heimdall should take the lead next, as well as the fact they should have left one alive for questioning, the red-haired mage would let out a small laugh. "Yeah, it'll be better if I take the lead from now on for safety. As for leaving one alive, unfortunately, that skill isn't suited for such a thing." Heimdall nodded his head in agreement as the other man stated that the gnomes were organized. "I agree. We should head out and find the rest of them before they realize what happened and set up traps or something of the like."

With that, he would then start to lead the two of them further into the hill. After thirty minutes of walking, the two men would find the entrance to a small cave and would hear the baaing of sheep from inside. Upon hearing this, Heimdall would let out a small sigh before turning to the other man. "Unfortunately, you'll have to take the lead once inside. It'll be too much of a risk for me to use that skill once we are inside." The red-haired man paused for a moment before pointing at the ash floating next to one ember. "I'll have to use my ash-based skill once we're inside. It'll affect you; however, it won't do any actual harm to you, unlike the last one."

Letting the sheep graze on its own, Alexei turned to Heimdall, who had been responding to his queries. Heimdall taking the lead would give them the opportunity to react in a much better way. It seems that his specialty is large area damage, while Alexei's own is more mid-ranged, as well working in a group. In a sense, if Alexei could harness Heimdall's abilties, they might just be able to work in unision.

Alexei nodded as he let Heimdall take the lead. He had been mulling over what the best strategy for their group would be, and found himself striking gold as they found the entrance of a cave. The baaing of the sheep coming from inside was clue enough that this was most likely the place they had been searching for. When Heimdall gave his idea, Alexei nodded, before pitching his own.

"Hold off on using your skill. I'll lead them to the mouth of the cave. Once I clear the entrance, drop your skill on top of the gnomes that I lead out." Alexei would point towards the spot where he would be taking his position after running out. "I'll then use one of my skills to take them all in unison alongside your own skill." White Out would be the best skill used in this scenario.

Quickly, Alexei rushed in, making as little sound as possible until he reached a circular cavern that housed the sheep in pens. Inside, he counted five more gnomes. A couple were milling about, while the rest were securing the pens. They seemed to be expecting that the trap would work against whoever was sent against them. Alexei knew what he had to do. Drawing his saber, he forced himself out into the open, waving his saber around and yelling, "Your friends are all dead! Let's see if the rest of you are as easy to kill as they were!" Before anything else, he started running back to the entrance of the cave. He heard the clamouring as the gnomes quickly took up pursuit.

"Now, Heimdall!" Alexei shouted as he cleared the entrance of the cave. The gnomes were still in hot pursuit and were at his heels. Alexei hoped Heimdall was ready, and that this plan would work.

Heimdall listened as Alexei pitched his own plan, which was basically to just have the red-haired man set up a trap at the entrance of the cave while the blonde-haired man once again used himself as bait to draw them into the trap before finishing the job with one of his own skills. "Yeah, I don't have any problems with doing it your way." In reality, while the initial part of the plan would be riskier for Alexei, if it went off without a problem, it meant the blonde-haired man would be able to fight without choking on ash while in the middle of a battle. As Heimdall waited for the other man to return, he'd lean against the edge of the cave as all he could really do was wait.

A small smile would form across his lips as he heard the other man taunt the gnomes before the sound of six pairs of feet could be heard heading his way. As such, Heimdall wasted no time moving away from the cave as he prepared his next skill. As Alexei came into view, the ash floating next to Heimdall vanished as he once again called upon the power of the fire giants. "pyroclastic flow." However, this time, instead of flames, he would call upon the very air of Muspelheim. As the entrance of the cave filled the ash Muspelheim. Upon stepping into his cloud of ash, the gnomes would be caught off guard as they started to choke and wheeze on ash that now filled the air, debuffing their speed and power. "Alright, it's all you now, Alexie."

Alexei abruptly stopped his sprint, using the momentum to turn back around as he heard Heimdall use his ability. The destructive power of the man was definitely awe-striking. Alexei himself wasn't too comfortable with the heat that was emanating, but that was another matter. Instead, he would focus on the next part.

Pivoting in his stance, Alexei felt the rush of the skill pulsing through his veins. In a snap, he found the magic pouring through his saber as he slashed in an arc. "White Out." Immediately a torrent of snow rushed towards the already-confused gnomes. This would be the nail in the coffin, however. The skill would envelop the small entrance of the cave, blinding them in the process. The howls of the gnomes would be a song for Alexei, as he quickly met the gnomes that were now staggering out of the ice and fire.

In his head, he was counting them off. One, two, three. Each of the gnomes staggered out in pain, confusion, and blindness. The synergy between Alexei and Heimdall worked wonders in such a small area. Truth be told, Alexei himself didn't know if it would truly work, and yet it did.

"Let's wait and see if any of them still stagger out. There should be around five." Alexei warned as he kept his saber at the ready. "Then we can go in and get this mission over with." He wasn't sure whether Heimdall could fight, but nonetheless, he wanted to be sure that there were no other surprises for them. The wintery mix, coupled with volcanic ash, would have been a death sentence to anyone in the real world. Here? It was an entirely different playing field.

Heimdall watched as Aelexi wasted no time getting to work and using his own skill to send out a wave of ice which seemed to bind the gnomes in place as they froze to death while choking on Heimdall's ash. Much like the other warrior the red-haired man notice that the attack had only taken out three of the five remaining gnomes as the last two hung back upon noticing the cloud of ash. Well damn it seems like two of them were smart enough to realize it was a trap. Not that'll matter much." Upon noticing the last two gnomes not moving forward as to avoid the cloud of ash Heimdall would close his eyes as he started to use his ability. "hand of Surtr" As he spoke it's name the red-haired mage would start to absorb flames as he called upon Surtr the first fire giant and he who shall destroy all nine realms. Heimdall would then waste no time as he grabbed an ember crushing it in his hand during it to ash. "giantsflame" He would then once again call down a burst of fire that washed over the two gnomes as the flames killed them leaving naught but burning husk giantsflame was increased by his hand of Surtr.

"Well that takes of that annoying problem I'll go grab the sheep." With that Heimdall would let his cloud of ash vanish as he made his way inside the cave freeing the remaining four sheep and leading them outside and back to the shepherd with Alexie. Upon receiving his reward from the old man Heimdall would turn towards Alexie. It was great working with you. I'll see ya around some other time!" After saying his goodbyes to the other man Heimdall would walk over to explore more of this strange new world he lived it.

Alexei made his way in after watching Heimdall do his work with the remaining gnomes. There was something familiar about the man, something that felt akin to his own. Alexei had thought "military" prior, and he was more sure now than ever. He wouldn't ask though, at least not yet. That would be a bit unprofessional. No, it was better he do it later on.

After breaking the sheep free, the hardest part was slowly herding them back to the shepherd. The five missing sheep seem to be in sound condition if not a bit traumatized by what had happened to them. Alexei did his best to ignore the fact that at least one of the sheep smelt like ash. He was sure that the shepherd wouldn't mind either, to be fair. They were all recovered, after all.

Taking their rewards, Alexei bowed slightly to the older gentleman, before saving at Heimdall. "It was good working with you, Heimdall." He paused, before continuing slowly, "I hope we meet each other again soon. Keep safe out there." Alexei nodded respectfully at the man, before making his own way out of the area. It was time for a small rest before he continued on exploring the area.
