Alexei nodded along as they made their way across the expanse. One of the things that ran through his mind is the fact that the mission itself had them walking through an open hilly terrain. Cover was not something easily found, and therefore, with each step they took, Alexei made sure to keep an eye out for traps or another sort of ambush. He was tense, to say the least.

"You're right, splitting up wouldn't be the best idea." He agreed. Alexei himself was new, though he wasn't sure just how new this other person, Heimdall, was to this new world of theirs. Alexei needed to gain more experience, tackle more challenging obstacles, and gain the necessary "power-ups" to be able to be successful in this new world they found themselves in. Right now, he was still a newbie. It was better to rely on twice the manpower for this task.

Looking towards where he pointed, Alexei slowly nodded to the man's conclusions. This was definitely a trap. "I can go in first. I've wanted to try this skill of mine for a bit now, and this would be a good opportunity to do so." Alexei quickly pulled up the skill, preparing himself. "I'm sure they'll spring up quickly once they realize I'm alone. You can counter-ambush." With that, Alexei crept towards the sheep that was tied.

In hindsight, it probably was better for him to have used the skill first. Instead, he opted until he found a gnome grinning at him, a spear pointed menacingly. Alexei didn't even get too close to the sheep before three gnomes popped up from below the ground, cornering him in a triangular formation. They growled and sneered. Instead of responding to their jeers, Alexei quickly cast his spell. "Winter Soldier, arise." A golem made of snow appeared behind Alexei, saber already drawn and at the ready. "Protect my back." Alexei ordered, lunging towards one of the three gnomes, aiming his saber at its throat. He was hoping Heimdall would spring his trap now.

Alexei shook the man's hand. Heimdall. He knew that name well. The guardian of the Bifrost, the Norse god of the bridge to Valhalla. That was, in and of itself, something that humoured Alexei. Here was the guardian to the Bifrost, and they were now in another world, transported just like from the Bifrost itself. And yet, instead of Valhalla, they get this wasteland to call home now. The irony was there, he was sure of it.

Yet, the man looked decent enough. Someone who he could trust, at the very least. He had an assured air about him, which reminded him of his comrades back in Russia. "Good to meet you, Heimdall." Alexei then turned towards the hilly area. If he were to guess, then the sheep would be in the pastures right now. But he heard something about gnomes, the tail end of the conversation between Heimdall and the man.

"My guess is that they were taken and hidden, possibly along the hills." Alexei pointed towards the landscape, "It would be easy enough for the creatures to have small caves dug out from the hillside. Possibly the more rocky outcrops." He shrugged, before making the first move. "Let's head out now, we might even be able to spot them still herding their capture if we hurry." It was a gamble, a hopeful wish.

Alexei found himself wandering along the North American mountains, just along whatever town he had previously found himself in. His task was simple: get to know what landscapes were left from the "event". Not only were cities changed, but even the countryside that he knew and loved, as well as places of attractions, had metamorphosed.

He was, however, here for a specific reason. Alexei was tipped off earlier that there might be a mission here. One of the players he had had an interaction with told him of the importance of missions. Something along the lines of it helping out with levelling up. Alexei was never too attached to his game consoles growing up, but he knew enough to understand the gist of things. And so, he was here, making his way to two figures just a few steps away.

Without prompting, the mission parameters were shown to him in a window. He had gotten used to this now, and it seems, he would have a partner once again. "Hello." Alexei would greet the red-haired man with a wave. "I suppose you're here for the mission as well?" He asked, with a welcoming smile on his face. "I don't suppose you don't mind partying up together? I was told it makes everything just a bit easier for nearly everything in this...new world of ours." It was true, and to be fair, it was true too in the other world, the real world they had left behind. "Alexei." He offered, hand outstretched for a shake in greeting.

The place was barren and reminded him of his days in the northern training camps where officers were debriefed of State Secrets. Alexei sighed, realizing that whatever life he had prior, he wouldn't have it here. This was a different world. A different place. A new beginning. And that wasn't so bad at all. [break][break] Not breaking his stride, Alexei responded to Cyrus. "Alexei. Nice to meet you." He hadn't thought about how the man could understand him. Cyrus didn't look Russian at all. That was, after all, the least of his worries. "You said something about the Vitality stat? Mine is low too." There was a short pause, "So I think that's where your hiding abilities might come in handy." [break][break] As the subject turned to weapons, Alexei found his right-hand perched on something on his belt. He looked down, realizing it was a handle. A sword handle, to be exact. Carefully unsheathing the weapon, he slowly realized what weapon it was. The Pozharsky's Saber, a relic of the Russian Monarchy, and part of the Russian Treasury. He had only seen it once in his life, but many more in his dreams. "It seems...I do have a good weapon." Alexei twirled the saber around, testing its balance, before sheathing it once again. He would need to carefully examine it later on. [break][break] "Wait." Alexei stopped, holding his hand up as he pointed ahead. There was a looming outcrop that looked to be a small hill of sorts. It certainly was not a mountain, after all, the polar ice caps were just that, ice. It must be an ice shelf. Looking down, he found himself staring at prints. "Do you see this?" Alexei motioned for Cyrus to join him, pointing towards the set of prints that were now just visible to them. Were they animal prints? But what kind of animal would even be in this place? [break] |

He pointed, before realizing he had read something about this prior. "I think that's one of my...skills. It's supposed to take a portion of damage you take." Alexei continued, his brow scrunched as he tried to remember more. "And...something about lowering ice and snow-based ability effectiveness." That would be very useful, especially where they were at the moment. [break][break] Taking a look around, he continued. "My abilities are a mix of aggressive, as well as group-based ones." Alexei took a step forward, before looking down on the ground. He spotted indents on the side. No, not indents. They were tracks. Sled, possibly. He bents down, letting his hand run through the tracks. They were fading, more than likely because of the slow gusts here in the arctic. They were, however, visible enough to follow. [break][break] "It looks like the people we are looking for were heading that way." He pointed towards the direction where the tracks led. "I'm unsure how far these tracks go, but if we were dropped here, and this was left as a clue, then we can safely assume that we're meant to follow." Alexei got up, dusting his pants of the snow. Alexei found himself following a melody he had never heard of. All of his instincts told him to leave now, and never look back. This was, after all, a zone with which he was unfamiliar with. He didn't know whether it was even a good idea to stray away from Europe. However, if he ever was to truly thrive in this new world, he needed to get a hang of every single thing that was available to him. Especially the near-instant teleportation system that let him hop around the world with ease.

Rounding a corner, he finally got a glimpse of a person strumming an instrument in what it looks to be...slimes. How odd. Alexei took a few steps forward for a better view, inching his way with care and making sure to not make any unnecessary noise. With each step he took, however, he found himself regretting his decision in piecemeal.

Before he could say anything, a pair of individuals materialized around the opposite bend. Alexei paused uncertainly. Were they friend, or foe? Instead of speaking up himself, Alexei took a relaxed stance as he let take the lead. He wasn't sure if they could see him from their position, but Alexei thought better to announce himself without cause. He did, however, let his hand fall to his saber, gripping it casually, ready to draw if needed.

[attr="class","alreescroll"] [Mission Link][break][break] Just as he was about to spring forward into motion, Alexei found himself enveloped by an aura of sorts. It was a soothing aura, one that caressed the aches that he had been feeling as his body re-acclimated to such burst action. He glanced towards the gash he had on his arm from the goblin sword, and realized that it was stitching itself up. His blood-soaked jacket sleeve, however, stayed the same. [break][break] It seems that he was not the only one who had been distracted. Alexei looked towards the goblins, who stopped as they eyed him warily. It looked as if they thought this aura was some sort of power-up. Or what was they called it in game? Buff? On instinct, Alexei rushed forward and made quick work of the already-injured goblin. He gave no warning as he shoved his saber through the creature, taking it out instantly. [break][break] This didn't stop the last goblin from retaliating. In quick succession, it made stabbing motions that Alexei barely escaped from. Pulling back, he almost stumbled as he did his best to regain his footing. It seems that the effect of White Out is working to his advantage. Gearing up for one last push, Alexei sprang forward, swiping away the outstretched spear and getting into close range of the goblin. His opponent tried to scramble back, but Alexei kept up his assault. With a shout, Alexei thrust his saber through the last goblin. [break][break] "Are we good?" Alexei huffed as he stood to look back at Dee Dee. It seems like she had finished hers quite quickly and with ease. Alexei could feel his sweat, having not acclimated yet to the intense fighting he was thrust into. His endurance as an active soldier was the only reason, he felt, that kept him still standing now. "I'm hoping we don't come across any more of those, but I guess these monsters are common in these parts?" He asked, making his way towards Dee Dee. "Good thing you were here." Alexei smiled at her, acknowledging the fact that he certainly wasn't strong enough to face these dangers alone. [break] |

[attr="class","alreescroll"] [Mission Link][break][break] Alexei had no time to do anything after taking the first goblin's head. The other two quickly rallied together and rushed towards him. In response, he had to jump backward and almost lost his footing. The snow and ice that assailed the goblins seemed to be doing its job in slowing them down just a little bit. It seems they weren't built for the cold weather, especially with what they were wearing, which was almost nothing. [break][break] Taking a stance, Alexei held himself defensively. It was better to react than be proactive when faced with two opponents. He had to be more calculative with his moves, making sure not to overextend himself. The challenge is to not be baited at all by his opponents. [break][break] The first one that got to him first sent his spear in a stabbing motion. Without pause, Alexei pirouetted, before stabbing back at the goblin. He missed. Instead, he was faced with a slash of a sword. Reacting on instinct, Alexei dodged to the right. He wasn't fast enough, however, and was scratched lightly by the outstretched sword. He kept himself cool, before springing forward. A quick stab got another goblin, but not enough to kill it. [break][break] He spared a glance towards Dee Dee, who seemed to be dealing well against the seven goblins. She and her summons were more than capable, and definitely have more experience with this system than him. Letting his saber lax on his right hand, he gestured for the two goblins to come at him. This was a challenge he accepted gladly. [break] |

Winter General appealed to him most, and him whispering the name immediately engaged the system to choosing it for him. In a flash, he felt a sort of bolstering to his body. The feeling was both odd, and yet soothing at the same time. As though he was returning home, a yearning that he never knew he had, resolved. [break][break] He glanced towards the other person who seemed to have been dropped here alongside himself. "I think I just selected something." Alexei commented, before something else popped up. It was directions on how to party up with someone. It seems that the system is prompting them to work together on this mission, or whatever it's called. "It's telling me to party you up."[break][break] Going through the motions, Alexei sent the invitation towards the person with him. He wasn't really sure what to expect, but he knew he had to do his best to both survive, as well learn through this experience. Tutorial, it was called. That means this was meant to be a training of sorts. That, at least, Alexei can understand. [break][break] "Do you know what this is all about?" He asked with ease, settling himself as he took in the surroundings. As he did so, he was prompted with another screen that outlined his abilities. Terms like Commander's Presence, White Out, and Winter Soldier popped up, with their descriptions summarily below each of them. Scanning each one, he realized what these terms are for. They were his skills, things he can do to interact with his surroundings, mainly enemies. Things were getting truly interesting. [break] |

It seems as though that the summons of his partner works as some sort of pet. A pet that seems to fight for and protect her. That was a very nifty skill, and something which Alexei knew would be very valuable in an environment such as this. Danger lurked in every corner, and not having to put yourself in the line of danger would be an asset. [break][break] "That's-" Alexei started, before abruptly finding his own body crouch in a protective position. His military training kicked in immediately when his partner had sent him the message about goblins. He had thought that the bushes were too inconspicuous. With one sweep, his saber was unsheathed and at-the-ready. [break][break] The first thing he noticed was his partner already engaging the seven that had sprung up from the bushes. The summons of hers were already making their moves, and Alexei had to stop himself from studying them further. Instead, he quickly leapt towards the three that sprung up from the side. "I'll take these three." He shouted towards Dee Dee, before tapping into the system to use one of his few skills. [break][break] "White Out." A cone of ice and snow poured from the horizontal slash, immediately assaulting the three goblins that were running towards him. He had made sure to be close enough, having tested the skill's range previously in his own time. It wasn't the strongest, and most likely will not take his enemies down in one go, but it would slow them down enough for him to do work. Without pause, Alexei leapt towards the closest one, sword already slashing at its head. They would only be stunned by the sudden chill and frost for a few moments, after all. [break] |

His blurry vision was slowly clearing itself up, and as he rubbed his eyes, he found himself shivering. Rubbing his hand together, he found snow on his fingertips and hand-creases. This got him quickly scrambling up, pulling his fur-lined cloak close as he observed his surroundings. [break][break] Nothing. There was nothing but snow all around him. What had he been doing prior to getting here? A notification. A class? And before that? He remember being in his quarters looking forward to going home for a well-deserved visit. And in a flash, he was gone. There was something else he was slowly remembering. Something about The Light. [break][break] "What in the world..." Alexei whispered to himself, before realizing that something was blocking his vision. It had a message, and as he read it further, Alexei realized that this was not a dream at all. No, this was what the "thing" had been telling him before he appeared here. A tutorial. "A Search and Rescue mission. Hm." He lifted his hand as though to scroll through the message, but it obeyed his mental command instead. Instead of staring, he opted to look around their environment. As a soldier, an officer, he was trained in both special and covert operations. However, unlike the English countryside, he was used to the barren and snow-filled lands of Russia and its borders. The greenery that surrounded him unnerved the once-Major General slightly, though he wouldn't let it rule his thoughts and actions. [break][break] A beep. It startled Alexei a moment, before he noticed a message screen pup up. Scrunching his eyes, he slowly read the message, making sure to digest everything well. He was still new to this seemingly automatic translation system. It was unnerving, yet amazing at the same time. The appearance of the two summons, and then another message and an offered book made the interaction even more interesting! Alexei took the offered book gingerly. [break][break] "Thank you, I appreciate you explaining everything. I'm still-" He paused, trying to find the right words, "learning through this new system." Alexei thumbed the book for a moment, "You seem to have put a lot of effort in creating this book." An essential resource for sure. Coupled with the fact that this person seems to be able to control "summons" to fight for her, this person was in a great spot for surviving, thriving, and most importantly, keeping themselves safe. Unlike his own abilities, which has him fighting frontline. Not that he was complaining, he'd rather have it that way. [break][break] "I'll keep this to read when we're in a safer environment." He nodded, before keeping it in his inventory. That, at least, he learned to use. "Could you tell me more about your summons? I appreciate them being able to keep an eye out for us, by the way." Alexei smiled, turning towards a line of bushes that seemed too into place in this area. He bounced the tomato in his left hand, before taking a small bite. "This is good. He read it slowly, making sure not to miss a single detail, before nodding slowly. "Good to meet you, Dee Dee. My name is Alexei. I hope we can work well together." He tried to smile, only for it to look just slightly less grim than usual. "Yes, let's do our best. This is my first mission in this new and...strange world. First impressions count, after all."[break][break] What Alexei was more curious about was the "summons" his partner was talking about. His experience so far had been his own skills, as well as his the partner he had during his tutorial. There were many things he still had not seen nor experienced in this world that he was dropped into, and he was eager to take in everything. To thrive, after all, is to know what you might be up against. And Alexei wants to thrive in this newfound freedom of his. [break][break] Looking towards the caravan, Alexei was taken aback by the appearance of wagons. He had assumed that the trucks would be their convoy, and was about to speak up, but thought better of it. No, it was best to learn quietly. Alexei, would, however, turn towards his partner as they started their march. "Why are they not using the trucks?" He asked as he started on an easy pace, taking a position that would allow him to still see the front of the caravan, but close enough to the rear to react if and when necessary.
