Andy had to suppress the urge to snap at the girl as she waved at him. How could she be so oblivious to the danger she was just in?! It wouldn't do any good to yell at her it seemed as she just walked up to him with his weapon. Although it didn't stay in her hand for long as almost as soon as she tried to hand it to him it disappeared from her grasp. “I appreciate the thought, but it's not needed. They don't last for long anyways.” The knife in his hand disappeared as well. [break][break] When Dee Dee reached out the notebook Andy cupped a hand under it and began to read it. “What's this?” As he read he realized that she could be of use to him. She seemed to know what she was talking about and could probably point him in the right direction. It was best to stay on her good side, not that it seemed like it would be difficult. “My name is Andhrimnir Larsen. Andy for short. My Class is Savage Chef.” He spat out his rehearsed greeting once he was done reading. [break][break] “A gardener and a farmer? Is that part of their Class? I may be interested in meeting them in the future. It's always good to know a variety of people with different talents.” Especially those that he could profit off of. “The Store? Do you mean Kitty's Novel Idea? I've seen their cafe, but it seems everything was automated by the system, unfortunately.”[break][break] Andy looked over Dee Dee's menagerie of creatures and was rather impressed with the baskets. “Dee Dee, did you make those baskets? Would you be able to help me forage? I'm not acquainted with any of the new flora yet.” |

Upon Idir's insistence, Andy looked around at the camp and was surprised that he didn't notice all the items when he first got there. The items that were handmade were beautiful. It took him only four months to hunt enough wood to create this place on his own? Four months? Idir had been here quite a bit longer than he had. [break][break] Andy got up and moved over to his pack to grab a large platter before returning to the bullfrog. “Idir, do you live out here in the Hills? Hunting creatures like ents from Lord of the Rings and whatever else you can use? How rare are the creatures? If you had a larger force do you think it would be viable to mass produce items like these?”[break][break] Andy continued to slowly slice along the body of the bullfrog to make sure he got all the meat he could and also to make sure he didn't hit any odd anatomy. Even if he just went too deep and accidentally nicked the stomach it would probably cause a stench that would ruin their appetite. Not to mention leak out stomach acid and who knows what that could ruin the meat. Once he got a slab of meat, including a rack of ribs, free from the back of the bullfrog he placed it on the platter. Andy then moved over to the other side and began cutting once more. [break][break] “A future guild? That's a noble goal you have, Idir. Truth be told I had the same thoughts. During my tutorial, I and my partner had to defeat a Demonic Chicken as large as a goat. We got a decent amount of meat off it and ate it not too long after. If we could domesticate those chickens or any number of other creatures, our food supply would vastly increase. Or even if we could just hunt them safely and sustainably.”[break][break] “However, my goals aren't as noble as yours. I am a chef after all. Before all this happened I hoped to start my own restaurant one day and I still have that goal. I suppose I'm more selfish than you are in my interests. Helping people is nice and all, but money and my well-being goes above that. A bit of fame wouldn't hurt.”[break][break] Andy raised an eyebrow as Idir mentioned how his frog legs despawned on him. “I haven't had that problem. I didn't realize that was possible, to be honest. My Cla-” Mid-sentence he realized that he'd never introduced himself to Idir. His client had just been going in good faith so far it seemed. Idir didn't think to question him either. Or at least he didn't seem to mind his rudeness. Maybe it would take this type of person to change things for the better. [break][break] “My name is Andhrimnir Larsen. Andy for short. My Class is Savage Chef. I'm able to harvest ingredients from monsters and store them for future use. As long as they're stored like normal meat I haven't had something disappear on me yet. The Demonic Chicken I mentioned before was able to be stored for a few days before we ate it. I haven't tested the limits of this ability yet, however.” |

Andy shook Idir's hand when he offered it and listened to him speak. He repurposed monsters? Interesting. A smirk spread across his face as he realized the potential of his new client. He had questions, but he'd let Idir finish talking first. He didn't want to interrupt the briefing. [break][break] Andy's attention turned towards the bullfrog when Idir motioned to it. It was much larger than any other bullfrog he'd seen before. As expected of a monster. Although the legs were gone there still seemed to be a decent amount of meat left on the body. Missing? Did they despawn? He had even more questions. [break][break] Once Idir was done with his explanation he walked up to the bullfrog and began to examine it. “Do you have a place to prepare and cook the meat?” He summoned a skinning knife in his hand and began to slowly make cuts along the back of the creature. “What sort of items does your business handle? Fashion? Armor? What do you mean when you say the legs are missing?” |

Just as Andy was cursing his luck and beginning to move further into the forest he heard a rustling coming from a nearby bush. First, he couldn't find anything interesting and now he was likely about to be attacked by a wild animal. Or at least he hoped it was a wild animal and not another monster. That's just what he needed right now. [break][break] A chef's knife appeared in Andy's hand that he quickly threw it at the ground near the front of the bush to try to scare whatever it was away. He used his ability to summon a skinning knife in his hand and prepared himself for battle in case the creature didn't flee. The last time he was out here he got attacked by a Demonic Chicken that fought right up until it died. Who knows what other kinds of monsters were out here? [break][break] Andy wasn't prepared for what popped out of the bush, however. A person's head topped with a red larva. Quickly followed by a video game character and a small dragon. He relaxed finally but didn't get rid of the knife in his hand yet. “What the hell kid?! What are you doing in there? You shouldn't scare people like that! I could have hurt you!” |

Andy was happy to be back in the countryside after a while. He hadn't been back since he completed his tutorial, but he'd been looking forward to this trip ever since. Armed with an herbology book and dressed head to toe in hunting gear he was thoroughly prepared for to go foraging. His messenger bag slung over his shoulder was filled with plastic resealable bags to place the plants in. [break][break] As Andy scoured the treeline for herbs to put into his dishes, he constantly checked the book he had with him to make sure it was edible. So far he'd only come across the everyday things, but that wasn't what he was hoping for. With the world changing in such a drastic way Andy was hoping that he'd be able to find something unusual. Hell, it doesn't even need to be a sentient plant or anything fancy like that. [break][break] Andy stood up and inspected what he had in his bag. It wasn't nearly the quantity he wanted nor did it have the variety. It was a genuinely pathetic haul, but where else was he going to get ingredients now? He hadn't found a store that sold fresh herbs and spices like he wanted. Kitty's Novel Idea almost had what he wanted. He sighed and resigned himself to go into the forest. Not that he minded, but an expedition into the forest wasn't what he had originally planned for the day. “Looks like this won't be as easy as I thought.” |

As the final bandit was fleeing Andy managed to catch the sight of Argent shooting off laser beams to finish him off. Would he be able to be as strong as her when he leveled up? His hearing started to return just in time to hear his partner shouting out celebrations. “You're pretty flashy for an assassin huh?” He chuckled and winced from the pain in his side. [break][break] The katana in his hand vanished and Argent helped him tie up the last remaining bandit. Looks like everything was over now. “Guess it could have been worse. If you weren't here we'd have been screwed though.” Andy got up off the ground and leaned up against one of the carts before calling over somebody with some bandages to patch him up. [break][break] Once the trader was done slapping the bandage on his wound Andy grabbed the reins of the other horse to lead it along. “Do you come around here enough to know the names of local bandits? How long have you been doing this? Or I guess how long have you been loaded in? That's the right term isn't it?”[break][break] The rest of the trip was fairly uneventful thankfully. Soon enough they were able to see their destination and Andy could head home to take a much-needed rest after the long day. “Yeah, it's a shame I couldn't get any Ingredients to cook with. I guess I'll just have to settle for what the Hotspurs have in their pockets.” Andy smirked up at the bandit on the horse before returning his attention to Argent. “I think I'll do that as soon as I get home. Being level 1 ain't no joke. What level are you anyways?” |

It was time to finally fulfill his promise to Kael. After the tutorial, the two of them planned out a day to go camping so they could have the meal they'd talked about during the tutorial. Maybe it started as a joke or a way to make themselves feel better in the tense situation, but Andy took it seriously. After all, this was what he did even before the new world. The idea of all these new kinds of creatures to cook excited him. [break][break] The Demonic Chicken from the tutorial had been broken down in the field and then stored properly when they found a nearby house in the countryside. Andy was confident everything was done right and had been looking forward to this for quite a while. He'd been testing his recipe on normal chicken to make sure he got it right. He couldn't risk wasting what little meat he had on experiments after all. All he needed was a small piece to test if it tasted like chicken, which it did. [break][break] Andy packed up everything he needed for the trip and headed for Hollow Hills. He waited at the spot that he and Kael talked about before so they could walk to the site together. Getting lost in the woods on your own would suck, especially with monsters walking around. They'd likely have to keep their guard up while they were out there, just in case. While he waited he flipped through his notebook he brought with him with notes on his previous tests. |

Luckily for Idir, this was just the kind of thing that Andy lived for. While scrolling through the community forums he found a call for a chef. An odd request to be sure and not one he expected to see, at least not yet. It makes sense that other people would be trying to eat monsters to survive, but to call out a chef like this? They were probably some rich snob who had never cooked for themselves. A gig is a gig though and he'd make sure to use this chance to try out a new meat. [break][break] After he finished preparing the supplies needed to cook out in the Hollow Hills Andy made his way to the designated meetup location. Who knows why the client wanted to meet out in the mountains instead of in a hotel with a kitchen or an actual house? He hadn't been out in the mountains in quite a while with everything going on so he wasn't really complaining. If it was a problem he wouldn't have taken the job in the first place. [break][break] As Andy wandered through the mountains in his hunting gear he imagined the possible dishes he could create with a large frog. He had brought several objects and ingredients with him in preparation. He didn't know exactly what was in store for him so he wanted a variety in case the Crucible Bullfrog tasted different than expected. Andy knew he could make a decent meal out of the legs at least, but if this frog was as large as the Demonic Chicken he'd seen before he could probably get meat from more than just the legs. Larger animals mean more potential for food after all. [break][break] The stomping of his boots on the ground gave Andy away as he approached his destination. Eventually, he saw another man and waved at them as he got closer before placing his large pack and cooler on the ground. “Idir?” |

While Argent was finishing up with the leader of the gang Andy was closing in on the remaining two bandits. Annie was losing the will to fight and so too were her followers. A few shots flew in Andy's direction, but the assassin's illusion struck them at just the right moment. Andy tried to imitate the assassin by bobbing and weaving around the bullets but still managed to get grazed by one of them again. More likely because he ran into one than the bandits aimed correctly. [break][break] With a boning knife in one hand and the katana in another Andy slashed at the nearest bandit. His blades sliced into the bandit's arm and leg causing a yell from the man. As Andy reached up to grab their collar and drag them off their mount the last remaining rider began to flee before they met the same fate as their allies. “Damn coward,” he roared out. [break][break] Andy hadn't yet noticed that Argent was tying up Annie but felt confident that she was nearly done. That meant the one in his hands was the last one remaining unless the one running was a fake out. He wrestled the rider to the ground like he had before and tried to pin him down. Luckily the gunner wasn't physically strong themselves. Seems most of their power came from their weapons. [break][break] Andy placed the katana on the back of their neck and they stopped struggling. He finally noticed that Argent seemed to be finished and tying up Annie. “Think we're done now?” His ears were still ringing, but slowly getting better. He put his weight on the man below him to make sure he wasn't going anywhere. “Can someone bring me a rope?” He called out and one of the traders began to tie up the bandit on the ground. |

Andy had just finished purchasing his book from Kitty and began reading through it when he heard a child's voice ring out through the store. A child's voice asking him questions. She seemed excited about something or other. Monsieur? Was she French? She was off to do a job for some man who offered her ice cream and points? He couldn't let her go alone now knowing this guy could be a weirdo. He closed the book before answering her. [break][break] “Yes I am. I was interested in potentially working with Kitty to help stock the cafe, but it seems that it's all automated, unfortunately. She referred me to her business manager to talk about opportunities. I'm just waiting for the moment, but I could help you after if you still need it. Where do you suppose we find ice?”[break][break] Did she just say her name was Jeanne-Marie? “Jeanne-Marie? Kitty's business manager?” Andy was shocked, to say the least. Was Kitty messing with him? With how much more excited the child got when trying to pitch him a job maybe she wasn't. He wasn't expecting to see a kid after everything he'd gone through though. How did she manage to survive her tutorial? [break][break] It was then that Andy realized he'd been lost in thought since Jeanne-Marie introduced herself. He gave a slight bow back to the girl before introducing himself. “Andhrimnir Larsen, Savage Chef. Here let me see if I can find someone else to help out.” He hopped on to the Global Chat Room to see if he could manage to contact Kael and ask to meet. This was shaping up to be an odd day. |

Andy smirked at Argent's tenderizer comment. “That's right. And I'll cook up their mounts for dinner.” As curious as he was to see if he could gather [Ingredients] from other people there are some lines even he wouldn't cross. Not yet at least. [break][break] As Argent dodged the bullets the mallet Andy threw earlier landed smack in the side of the head of one of the bandits. A large welt appeared on his face and by the time he turned to retaliate Andy was already on him. Who knew the assassin would make a good distraction? The large boning knife in his hand embedded itself into the weak point visible in the bandit's side as the two of them tumbled to the ground. [break][break] The bandit yelled out as the pair rolled along the ground and Andy pulled out his knife only to stab it into their side again. Shots rang out from their gun as they tried to point it at the assailant on top of them and he struggled to keep it away. The stray bullets flew into the air causing the rider's mount to flee from the near miss. Andy's ears hurt and rang at the loud noise going off so close to his face. It wasn't enough to deter him from summoning a chef's knife in his hand and plunging into the red mark in the center of the bandit's chest. Their body went limp and Andy breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe this wouldn't be too bad. [break][break] There wasn't much time to relax though as another shot came from nearby. The sound was muffled due to the ringing so what brought his attention to it was the searing pain coursing through his side. Andy could only partially hear Argent's conversation with Annie. Melody? Blind? What was she talking about? The next thing he knew there was a katana sticking out of the ground in front of him. Damn, she felt confident enough in taking on the leader she threw him her weapon and he was struggling to take on the small fry. Pathetic.[break][break] Andy didn't know what he was doing, but he wouldn't let himself get shown up like this. He gripped the handle of the katana and a popup gave him a brief description of the weapon in his hand. “Damn. They spelled the name wrong.” He used the blade to help himself off the ground before running off in the direction of the bandit that just shot at him. Andy smiled at Kael's remark. The cut of meat was passable, but not something that would be served in the restaurant he worked at. Or used to work at. With everything going on would it even still be standing? “I suppose it's good enough. Not my best work, but what can you do in this situation? I was hoping for something I could use in my Kitchen, but no luck this time.”[break][break] He began to carve out portions of the breast next while his partner moved closer. “I don't mind you watching at all Kael. And don't feel the need to savor it on my account. We're both starving so let's just eat. I can always make more.” Andy wondered what he was thinking about as he looked up at the sky. “You know you still have to tell me how you got that Class.” Andy began to relax a bit as his mind was slowly taken off the awfulness of the situation. [break][break] Andy finished up his work cutting up the meat for their meal before too long. Even though the chicken was much larger than usual it was still a chicken after all. The chicken gave way below him and the fight was finally over. Andy had placed all his body weight on the chicken during his last attack and fell forward on top of it when it went down. The weapons embedded in the monster's back disappeared. The last bit of Andy's energy was drained for the moment. [break][break] As he lay on the chicken the popup marking the completion of the tutorial appeared before him. He breathed a sigh of relief and rolled onto the ground without care for the mud. “That's right Kael. We did it. Now let's get this thing apart so we can eat.” Andy groaned as he lifted himself out of the muck. The job wasn't quite done yet. [break][break] Andy searched his person for the knife he usually kept on him for self-defense. Living in the city isn't all it's cracked up to be sometimes. Besides, what hunter doesn't have a knife? He examined the corpse of the chicken, but there weren't that many areas not covered in mud from the fall so his selection was rather small. He'd promised chicken to Kael though so he began to carefully slice away portions of the thigh. [break][break] The result was unsatisfying. For Andy at least. He attempted to cut around the gashes he left in the meat and the bruising from Kael's punches. A layman may not notion the difference, but Andy could see haphazard cuts and imperfections in the meat. It didn't have the [Ingredient] tag like he'd hoped it would. He was too tired to do his best, but he was also too tired and too hungry to care. “One down one to go. Did I tell you what KFC uses in their chicken? Salt, thyme, basil, oregano, celery salt, black pepper, dried mustard, paprika, garlic salt, ground ginger, and white pepper.” |

Again Andy was thankful that Kael had a good sense of humor. The situation was tense and he wouldn't have blamed the other man for snapping at him in the heat of the moment. Lord knows he was guilty of the same on more than one occasion with less stress than what Kael was handling right now. With their laughter, his Fear status condition faded away and he was able to focus again. [break][break] Somehow his partner seemed to be standing strong despite the constant onslaught from the chicken. It seemed Kael really was a tank, but even tanks have their limits. The chicken seemed to be immobilized from all the attacks to its side, but it was still pelting Kael with attacks. It wouldn't be too much longer before the chicken broke through his guard if things kept up like this. [break][break] Andy wanted to finish this as quickly as possible so he sent energy rushing through his eyes and blade once more. The red points signaling his enemy's weakness appeared to him once more and he stabbed his skinning knife down into the back of the chicken. A boning knife appeared in his left hand that he brought down into the other side. “I'll use all eleven herbs and spices!” |
