With a grunt, Mikael pulled himself up from his position, shaking his head slowly as he tried to fight the pain. It felt like someone was pushing his temples in, constricting his skull.[break][break] "Damn...I felt like I was hit by a truck..." Mikael whispered to himself as he finally was able to see clearly. The ground was muddy, his hands gripping on grime and muck. Yet, he didn't feel abhorred by it. No, he was used to working on the land, having been raised by the local church, and his childhood filled with helping out the local farms.[break][break] He remembered something. A voice telling him to choose a class. He remembered looking at one, and then choosing it out randomly. Salvation's Vanguard. Andhrimnir's ears rang and his head throbbed as he lay on the ground. For some reason, his whole body ached with an almost familiar soreness. He likely got into another fight the previous night while drunk. That would explain the pain he felt as he slowly shifted himself onto his side so he could make his way off the muddy ground. Wait mud? When did it rain? [break][break] ”God damnit. I'm going to have to buy new clothes again,” Andy groaned to himself. Unfortunately, this wasn't an unusual occurrence for the man. His rather abrasive personality tended to cause people to throw a few swings when he drank too much. Although he usually ended up covered in alcohol or blood, not mud, and this was his first time blacking out. ”I guess I finally overdid it. About time, I guess.”[break][break] But the question of how he got here still remained and where exactly here even was. Andy grunted and groan as he finally lifted himself off of the ground. A quick glance around revealed countryside of all things and another man on the ground near him. It seemed he was still passed out for the moment and it was better to let him sleep. After all, he was probably the one that caused the soreness all over his body. [break][break] How he managed to get from the heart of the city to the middle of a...pasture? he may never know, but a flood of memories suddenly returned to him as he searched his person for his phone. Choose A Class: Gluttonous Champion, Savage Chef, Gourmet Guardian. He had chosen the Savage Chef and a barrage of popups told him how it worked. Andy couldn't help but laugh as he tried to open the screen again and much to his surprise it wasn't just a drunken hallucination. ”Is life all a game now? What a damn joke. I worked too hard for everything to just end like this.” At least it seemed the Class he chose was tailor-made for him. Could it even get more perfect? [break][break] It was then that the gray-haired man near him began to stir. Andy put a decent amount of distance between the two, just in case. Better safe than sorry after all. If he got special powers then odds are they did too and he didn't want any part of that if he could help it. Andy kept a close eye on him as he got to his feet, but suddenly another popup appeared before him. [break][break] Welcome! This is your tutorial for this new world of ours.

I've got to at least give it a shot,” Andy whispered to himself before waving at his partner and beginning to make his way over. ”Hey, you come here often?” He chuckled a bit and hoped that the joke might break the mood of the awkward situation. As he got closer he reached out a hand towards the man. ”The name's Andy. Class is Savage Chef. I guess I can summon knives and mallets to attack with. What do you got?”

It seems as though his partner for this had quite the knack for puns and jokes. Kael marched closer to the man before holding out his hand for the offered shake. Mind you, it wasn't the cleanest due to the muck, but Kael didn't even think twice. [break][break] "Mikael. Kael for short." Kael responded in kind, "Savage Chef, hey?" He paused, gathering his thoughts as he looked around him. They were, indeed, in a pigsty. A farm, it looked like. Or at least, they were close to one. On one side, he could see a barn, and on the other, a chicken coop. Kael had been in places like these before, though the last time he was in or near a farm, he had been on the brink of completing his thesis. It was just after interviewing a farmer on the local legend he had been pursuing. [break][break] He turned around, eyeing everything discretely, before continuing. "My class is called Salvation's Vanguard. Though from what I can see here, I think we might be looking for something that a Savage Chef might be interested in!" A rooster? Kael guessed Andy might just be cooking some roast chicken tonight! "Basically, I apparently tank and keep the aggression on me, while doing some damage here and there." Perhaps they might work well together.[break][break] The Chef and the Angel.[break][break] "So, we're supposed to be looking for this rooster. I'd fancy a guess that it's over there." Kael pointed towards the chicken coop, though it felt too small to house anything demonic. "What do you say? I'd be up for some roasted chicken for dinner tonight, compliments to the chef, of course." He laughed, while mock bowing towards Andy with a friendly smile. [break] |

Andy was glad that his partner had a sense of humor at least. It would have really sucked to make a bad impression right off. With their enemy having a name like Demonic Rooster there was a good chance the pair was going to have to put their lives in the hand of the other. Going into battle with unresolved tension likely wasn't a good idea. Not that he'd ever had to put his life on the line before. [break][break] “Kael? Like the stuff, people use to make crappy-tasting sludge smoothies? I prefer using it to make chips myself.” 'And I could eat you right up.' Admittedly his partner was a handsome man so maybe dying here wouldn't be too bad, if not for his long list of things he still needed to eat. Which now included a Demonic Rooster. [break][break] ”Yeah looks like we got a pretty thematic enemy huh? A chicken for the chef and a demon for the... savior? Looks like we got a good pair too. I can dish out some damage and you're a tank. Maybe this won't be so bad. How did you end up with a Class like Salvation's Vanguard anyways? You a missionary?”[break][break] Andy took another look around the area when Kael pointed over toward the chicken coop. There didn't seem to be too many choices around. The chicken coop would make sense, but when were things ever easy? ”It's worth checking for a clue at least. It seems kinda small though don't you think? When I hear Demonic Rooster I think of something that's as big as us, if not bigger. Not that I'm hoping for that. Maybe it's just a really angry normal rooster and we're blowing this out of proportion. At least it'll make for a nice meal. I wonder if it being Demonic will change its flavor?”[break][break] Andy was a bit taken aback by Kael's sudden bowing to him. Was it a part of his religion, his culture, or something else entirely? He didn't want to seem rude so he bowed back to him. After his partner mentioned dinner Andy searched his person once more as he moved towards the chicken coop to see what was left on him besides his phone. He managed to find a small lighter in his pocket and wiped the mud from it. Andy thumbed the wheel a few times to test it out with no luck before shaking it to see if there was any fluid left in it. ”Must be wet from the mud. If we can dry it out it may work to start a fire to cook on. I could summon a Kitchen, but apparently, it only works if I give it two Ingredients.” |

To be honest, Mikael preferred Kael much better than people saying his full name. He was not shy, nor ashamed of his name. Far from it, truly. However, Mikael had always been just such a mouthful for the kids at the orphanage, those he grew up with. Therefore Kael just became his nickname ever since. [break][break] "Yes, I suppose it sounds like it. But spelled differently, I assure you." Kael responded with a big smile, before turning his attention back towards the coop. He was just about to respond when a loud crash stopped him in his tracks. The coop was, for a lack of a better word, gone. Instead, in its wake, stood a chicken that was certainly not the right size. It glowered at them, before with a loud cluck, it started charging in his direction.[break][break] Mikael quickly took his position. "Stay behind me!" He shouted as he stared eye-to-eye with the chicken. This was what his class was supposed to do, after all. At least, that was what he remembered. A tank. Frontline, center, and ready to take (or not) damage from his enemies.[break][break] And just like that, the chicken slammed into Mikael. A colourless shield sprang up in front of him, a feature, possibly, of his class as he found himself taking little damage. The chicken was fast, but perhaps it wasn't as strong. That was its weakness, Kael supposed. [break][break] "I don't know what you can do, but you might want to do it now." Kael said out loud towards Andy, as the chicken reared back and seemed ready to peck at him with force. [break] |

Just his luck that their conversation would be cut short by their enemy appearing from inside the chicken coop. Or that's where he assumed it came from. Unless it rammed straight through the coop to get to Kael, but would it really go that far? Regardless it destroyed the coop so it must be angry at the pair for whatever reason. Was the system causing it to go berserk? The damn thing was fast too, faster than he was at least. It was able to get to Kael before he could intercept it, but maybe it was a good thing that it went after him first. [break][break] But now was not the time to be thinking about such things. Now was the time to help Kael. Although he seemed to be doing rather OK on his own. ”I sure hope this works!” To that end Andy summoned a large skinning knife as he rushed towards the rooster. The knife was much larger than any other utensil he'd had to work with before and felt like a short sword in his hand. He could tell that this unruly blade was meant for more than just cooking. [break][break] Where would be the best place to strike? The head? No there was a rooster who lived for almost two years without its head. Who's to say this pumped-up demon wouldn't be able to do the same? As Andy thought about his next move he could feel energy coursing through his eyes and hand before it flowed out over his blade. There was something about a demonic being charging at you, intent on goring you to death, that made one cringe in fright. Yet, as he stood there, he couldn't help himself. He closed his eyes. Cowardly, yes, but certainly something that was human nature. He would work on it in the future, of course. Perhaps. Maybe.[break][break] He didn't truly know what his capabilities were. Nor did he know what Andy's were as well. However, he could at least possibly trust the System to not kill them during their tutorial. If they did die, however, he was sure it would be very embarrassing indeed. And so, listening to his partner's cry, Kael swiftly opened his eyes and stood his ground at the onslaught of attack.[break][break] It seems, however, that his opponent had turned to Andy for a quick moment before turning its attention back to him. The loud sound that the chicken had made caused him to take some damage, it seems. His body felt it, through is bones, and even his eardrums. "Damn it, chicken!" Kael grunted as he readied his fist.[break][break] There was a moment's pause wherein Kael was not sure where he got the idea. Possibly from his earlier skimming of his skills, more than likely. Kael took his partner's advice, and shouted out loud, "I want chicken thighs for lunch!" His fist was aimed and he slammed it towards the chicken's thigh, looking to deal his [PWR] damage according to his class core, while his other hand holding up a defensive position still as he kept the chicken's attention with his Class Core: Coward's Bane. Andy's bones shook as the screech erupted from the chicken. He managed to do some damage to its leg, but at what cost? He could feel his chest tightening as the energy coursing through him began to feel unstable. His eyes widened as the red glow emanating from them rapidly blinked and faded away. [break][break] Another popup. You have been afflicted with the Fear status condition. Fear? He was afraid of a damn chicken? Ridiculous. How dare this abomination make him feel fear of all things? He's killed and eaten animals plenty of times larger than this thing and yet he's afraid? Despite his rage, he couldn't help but feel his legs and hands shake. [break][break] The chicken attacked his partner once more and Andy...hesitated. Kael was in danger still and he hesitated to protect him. It wasn't until Andy heard him shouting about chicken thighs that he came back to his senses. A dull pain wracked his body, but Kael was taking much worse. Why was this thing so focused on him and almost ignoring Andy? It was odd, but his partner was much better suited to taking the brunt of the damage than he was. Maybe he should be a bit relieved. [break][break] Regardless, Andy had to do something to help him, but was going for the leg again really the right thing? That wouldn't kill it much faster. He'd have to start aiming for more vital areas, but he couldn't find the strength to activate his ability again. So, he struck out almost blindly without much thought. He lashed out with a quick stab to the chicken's thigh and blurted out something silly. ”And I'll cook them on your biceps!” |

Not comprehending why he was not being torn asunder, even as it was being slashed from behind and its great enemy before it was not letting it go so easily as well. With nothing else it could do besides try and use its basic attacks it had. [break][break] The luck of the chicken to effect Andy's knifework truly a boon as it took what looked like a critical hit on normal circumstances. The attack being nullified to a normal blow as the FEAR did its work. Though it would fade fast leaving the two with a chicken that was very obviously immobilized the the layered wounds to its leg. Both of his hands were now up, in a cross-shape, in order to prevent the chicken from harming him. He could still feel its pressure as it tried to attack him with all its might. However, it seems that his class was truly that of a tank class. Kael did feel himself losing ground, however. The hits were taking a toll on him. He would not budge, though. Not by a meter, and certainly not by a mile. [break][break] "You can definitely cook it on my biceps!" Kael opted to respond out loud, before forcing his hands in an upward motion. This would hopefully given him time to once again strike the chicken in its thigh. They truly need to bring this chicken down to the ground, and he hoped that his class' skill could do the trick in helping Andy do damage.[break][break] With a smash, Kael would bring his fist straight towards the chicken. He used both gravity, as well as his class' passive core to deal his [PWR]'s damage. He wasn't sure if it was working or not. Truly, he was still alien to this new world, and this new system. But he really didn't want to die, especially to a chicken. How horrible would it be to be remembered as the man who died to a chicken's peck? Horrid indeed! [break][break] "And I want KFC's spices on it!" Kael yelled to Andy, returning to his defensive pose as he took the beating from the chicken. [break] |

Again Andy was thankful that Kael had a good sense of humor. The situation was tense and he wouldn't have blamed the other man for snapping at him in the heat of the moment. Lord knows he was guilty of the same on more than one occasion with less stress than what Kael was handling right now. With their laughter, his Fear status condition faded away and he was able to focus again. [break][break] Somehow his partner seemed to be standing strong despite the constant onslaught from the chicken. It seemed Kael really was a tank, but even tanks have their limits. The chicken seemed to be immobilized from all the attacks to its side, but it was still pelting Kael with attacks. It wouldn't be too much longer before the chicken broke through his guard if things kept up like this. [break][break] Andy wanted to finish this as quickly as possible so he sent energy rushing through his eyes and blade once more. The red points signaling his enemy's weakness appeared to him once more and he stabbed his skinning knife down into the back of the chicken. A boning knife appeared in his left hand that he brought down into the other side. “I'll use all eleven herbs and spices!” |

A squawk leaving its beak though this one not laced with power as it hit the ground with a thud, the knife driving in deep as it screeched and flailed against the blonde's grip.
