Andy was rather impressed as Hana continued with the tour. It was in much better shape than he expected. To think that Guilds could reshape a building like this is amazing. He was rather looking forward to seeing how his Guild Hall would look when it was finished. Knowing Jeanne she wouldn't settle for anything less than a remarkable deal, but what that would mean for the appearance of the place who knows? Only time would tell. [break][break] As Dee Dee and Hana talked the small girl was scribbling some things down in her notebook. No doubt more things she wanted to add to the guidebook when she got the chance. That is until they got on the topic of the printer. An idea that Andy and Dee Dee had talked about some time ago. If he remembered right he wasn't the only one to have proposed that idea to her. Or was it she who talked about it first? It didn't matter as now Dee Dee had a printer for her to mass produce her book with. When the chance to promote a friend came up he couldn't pass up the chance. “I'm sure you could find some at Kitty's Novel Idea. I'd be shocked if they didn't carry some printer paper for people to use.”[break][break] Once again Andy was bowed to and he was somewhat flustered. He didn't expect such a formal greeting out of the blue like that. It was now the second time that a young girl bowed to him. It was another Japanese girl as well or at least that's what he assumed from her name. “I have some people in mind that are very business minded. I'm sure they'd be able to help you with anything you need.” He then handed Hana and Summer a pair of business cards each from Jeanne-Marie and Kitty. “Of course my own services are on offer if you ever need catering or a nice dinner.”[break][break] Once again the subject came up of the items from the system shop being subpar compared to items made with human hands. “I heard that a lot too and up until recently I didn't have the chance to try it. After eating the Jumbo Gumbo that came from the system I can say for sure that it's unfortunately true. Just another reason to support local businesses I suppose.” |

After giving the woman a quick once over Andy was somewhat confused in his assessment. With a calm look on her face, it seemed like she didn't have any concern about the danger they could potentially face. Well, except for the eyebrow raise she gave him as he approached. Though it could be argued she looked much odder than he did. She wasn't dressed for the battlefield in any regard yet she had multiple weapons sheathed on her body and held fans in her hands. She was a combat class for sure, or at the very least have acquired several weapons like he had, so she shouldn't be a hindrance at least. [break][break] When she spoke he got even more confused. She didn't introduce herself yet she seemed rather polite otherwise and even bowed to him. When referring to herself she said 'we' as well. A royal we? How odd. “Yes that's right. We'll be working together for a bit here. You can call me Andy. Sounds like we're going to be scavenging the area for some instant coffee.” He tried to hide the annoyance in his voice but didn't do so well. “Best be on our guard. The last person they sent out here got attacked.”[break][break] She seemed eager to get to work as she turned towards the street. “Guess we should start looking around and see if we find any convenience or grocery stores?” Andy made his way down the middle of the street while making sure to keep an eye out for anything suspicious. With most people no longer having a vehicle license it was pretty safe to walk in the road so why not? He'd be further away from the alleyways and other places people could hide to ambush him. “So what brings you here to a mission like this anyways?” |

When Andy walked into the establishment of his quest giver he had much different expectations of how the day would go than what he was presented with. In truth, he had mostly been interested in the chance to form a relationship with another crafting or production class. It was an opportunity he didn't want to pass up. [break][break] However, what Andy was presented with upon asking for more information from his patron was much more mundane than what he imagined. He misread the post and he thought he'd be going off into the jungles somewhere to gather raw coffee. Instead what he was sent to do was scour through the convenience stores and supermarkets of New York to find a package of instant coffee... [break][break] He had half a mind to refuse the request due to the absurdity of the situation. That is until the quest giver mentioned that a strange small girl used to collect it for them and she was harmed recently. It sounded too much like Dee Dee for Andy to ignore it. What other small girl would go around to strange places to collect things for people? He'd have to come back later and teach them a lesson for making a child do dangerous things for them. After he'd been paid of course. [break][break] Once he was done getting all the information he needed from them Andy made his way to the teleporter. He checked his gear to make sure he brought everything he wanted to try out. He originally planned for this mission to be a test run for Ender Island since he thought he'd be traversing the jungle. Now that he knew he was just going to New York he felt somewhat overdressed. A pair of slip-on shoes, a black jacket he recently bought that he felt flattered him, egg bombs strapped to his chest like grenades, the lava daggers he acquired from a red-headed man, and last but not least his Jumbo Gumbo stashed away in his inventory for emergencies. It was better to be overprepared than underprepared anyways. [break][break] Andy entered the teleporter and hiked his way to New York to the rendezvous location his benefactor set up. He was supposed to meet someone else to help him scavenge the area. How dangerous could it be that they needed multiple people to find coffee? Were there monsters roaming the area or maybe it was gangs? He'd never been to America before the end, but he'd heard about how dangerous America could be. Andy waved back at Dee Dee as he approached. "I agree Dee Dee. It'd be much easier to cooperate with others in order to survive instead of resorting to an uncertain lifestyle like that. That fight against them was just proof of that. We won after all."When Hana mentioned Summer he turned his attention to the large deer-like creature nearby. It was a beautiful creature indeed and certainly not a normal animal. Andy couldn't help but wonder if the abilities it had would make it taste any different than normal. Not that he would do such a thing... to this one. He'd have to see if he could find out where she found such a creature at some point. Andy reached out a hand to Summer and Hana. "You're a defense expert, Summer? I may have some questions for you later in that regard. And yes I'm a friend of Dee Dee's. We've met before and worked together on a mission as well." As he listened to them all talk he began to realize the type of situation he got himself in. He felt like someone's father crashing a slumber party. At least until Dee Dee began talking about business and production classes. Andy began to feel a bit more comfortable having something he was able to talk about as they toured the building. "Production classes could be quite useful in order to bring down your point spending. Plus it goes to support another person instead of to some mysterious system. I'm a chef that can create full meals, but if you want raw ingredients to cook with yourself you'd likely want to find some sort of gardener. Andy was glad that his comment seemed to cheer the girl up at least somewhat. After the stragglers came by to pick up their last-minute snacks he packed up the remaining ingredients as well as the food Dee Dee prepared for him. "I'll save the rest for later. It's getting late and it's been a long day. I'm sure we could both use a long night's rest after all this."He read Dee Dee's bubble and thought for a moment before responding. "True it would cost a lot of points, but it would be much faster. Potentially safer too since you'd be able to outspeed quite a few monsters in the right vehicle. You seem like the type that would be able to handle vehicles well. Maybe you could open a garage too! Have a whole chain of handy services provided by Waddle-Dees." Andy chuckled at the idea, but it could be possible one day. As Andy began to place the storage containers in his inventory for easier travel a screen appeared in front of him notifying him that the day was done. 'Mission Complete,' it read. The last patron must have left the festival and only staff remained. He breathed a sigh of relief and took a quick break from packing. "Looks like the day is done and we made it through in one piece. Guess it's time to collect our paycheck."It wasn't long before Andy finished packing up the stall. The banner came down, menus gathered, and other various other objects were ready for the trip home. "Hmm, fair enough I suppose. I don't know about useless though. Before all of this, you could maybe have been an artist or a contractor. There are many opportunities available to someone who is good with their hands. Everyone has their own set of skills and if we put you in a different situation the results may be different. But what's that old saying? You shouldn't judge a fish by their ability to climb a tree. There are plenty of people who can't do a lot of things Dee Dee. It's better to focus on what you're good at and what you enjoy." Modesty was one thing that Andy wasn't good at. Why focus on what you do badly or can't do at all when there are so many things you can do well? Bah! Those people that try to downplay their achievements and hide from the spotlight tended to annoy him. She's still young though and could still learn the benefits of shouting her name to the world. She would soon enough if the guidebook spread like he was planning. Once Andy was done packing up the extra workstation he leaned over the counter and began to eat the meal prepared for him by Dee Dee. "I appreciate the food again, Dee Dee. And your help today too of course." He then turned to her companions and nodded at each of them. "Bombdee, Jimmy, and Kramer you too. Thank you for all your help. I wouldn't have been able to make it through the day without you." Despite his ulterior motives for inviting Dee Dee here he did truly appreciate her assistance. He didn't think for a moment that she would deny his request unless she was busy with something else already. He was right in that assumption it seems and he would be able to rely on Dee Dee in the future. As they ate and talked the fireworks display lit up the sky with vibrant colors. Andy chuckled when Dee Dee mentioned Jeanne-Marie didn't like tomatoes. It seems she even used them to judge people's character. She wasn't unlike him in that regard. You can tell a lot about a person about what type of foods they like and how they react to them. "That's unfortunate. Maybe next time she'll try out something if she comes by again." For a moment Andy wondered how she'd react to him telling her that he and Jeanne-Marie were going to be business partners. "I'm the type that usually has to grab a treat for the drive back. I'll keep things open until the crowd mostly clears out. It's interesting to think that some mundane tasks like these would be able to give us experience. I guess it follows video game logic. Just another thing to put in the guidebook I suppose!" As they spoke the finale began with numerous fireworks all going off at once. "Almost done Dee Dee. Just a few more minutes to go and we can shut down," Andy remarked as the finale finished and he noticed people heading towards their cars. deedee

Andy had been in the area for something unrelated, but upon seeing a familiar face he decided to say hello. Dee Dee seemed to be part of a tour group as well which would be helpful. He didn't know the area well and it would give him a chance to get his bearings while he plans what to do next. Upon speed walking over to the group he promptly announced himself with a whisper to Dee Dee while also making sure not to interrupt the person talking. "Fancy running into you here Dee Dee."Having missed the beginning portion of the tour Andy wasn't entirely sure what he signed up for, but if Dee Dee was participating it probably wasn't anything too strange. At least that's what he was hoping. He didn't the girl too well after all. Andy listened to Hana introducing what seemed to be an apartment building? Strange. At least it was a Safe Zone so they didn't have to worry about being bothered by monsters while they were here. After reading Dee Dee's bubble Andy got a much clearer idea of what was going on. This apartment building was Hana's Guild Hall and she was giving a tour to prospective recruits. With him being propositioned with Guild contracts before it wouldn't hurt to see what the inside of one looked like. When Dee Dee spoke about caravans Andy couldn't help but pipe up as well. "Guarded caravans aren't a guarantee either. After our time at the festival, I helped guard a caravan that was returning to the same area I was and we were attacked by bandits along the way. If we could find some way to protect them better that'd be nice, but I imagine finding someone with the ability to create actual trade routes of some kind would be rare. If Andy knew anything it was that you should know you appreciate people while you can. "No, but you are Dee Dee. You're quite young and yet you're so capable. You're doing better than people much older than you are. Especially in this new world. I imagine many people are having trouble adapting to all these changes. How many other people would be able to craft a food cart out of scavenged materials? Or shelter? Or know how to feed themselves in the wilderness they woke up in?"Andy passed off the order to the last customer in line while reading her bubble. When she described the shop that she went to he immediately knew that it was the same one he was in. "That sounds like the one. Kitty's Novel Idea, right? I met a very interesting character there by the name of Jeanne-Marie. She reminds me of you. Young, but with knowledge well beyond their years. I was very impressed."He couldn't help but smile when Dee Dee began to describe her parents. Andy could tell she loved them a great deal and they returned the favor. "I hope you hear from them soon then and that everything is fine. They sound like they're able to hold their own. You'll make a formidable team when they finally load in."Once the line died down and the group got a chance to breathe Andy noticed that his partner had started preparing a meal for them all. Andy smiled and began to wipe down the counters to prepare to close down the stall. "Once the fireworks are done most people will start to leave. We may get some people at the end trying to get food on their way out, but I don't imagine it'll be too many. I'll box up one of the ingredient stations. We should keep one open for the people at the end. We're almost done, Dee Dee! We made it through!" With that said he began doing just that. Andy placed lids on ingredient containers, packed up all but the bare necessities of utensils, and turned off the grill once the last batch was finished cooking. deedee |

Andy was somewhat shocked at the girl's resourcefulness. Were her parents some sort of doomsday preppers? "That's amazing Dee Dee! I wouldn't know where to begin with making my own items like that. Of course, I know what makes a good knife and other such things, but being able to create what you need yourself is a convenient skill. I've heard that the things from the store are almost like imitations of real food. There is a store in Unison Central that has a café that dispenses system-made foods and drinks. I didn't try it myself though. It may be worth a try just to get the experience I suppose.""You mentioned that your parents taught you survival skills right? What kind of people were they? They must have been quite knowledgeable about many things to be able to teach you the sort of things you know." As Andy continued to chat away with her the customers came and went through the festival. With the girl and her companion becoming more comfortable with the workspace, he didn't have to worry nearly as much about them being harmed. It seemed everything worked out even without the star to stand on. It seemed like the hours went by in a flash with work to focus his attention and Dee Dee to occupy his mind with chatter. Before long the end of the day was nearing. The street lamps came on signaling it was almost time for the ending festivities. Despite this, the stream of people didn't slow down until just before fireworks illuminated the sky. Andy hadn't gotten a good look at the star when Dee Dee landed so he wasn't sure how large it actually was. He was somewhat surprised that it was large enough that she didn't think it would fit in the stall. Although with him and Kramer having to move around as well maybe she was just being considerate. He would rather she be safe, but he couldn't well argue with his limited knowledge. Maybe the star was much larger than he imagined it to be. Andy sent a message back. "OK just be careful."As the opening rush was ending Andy was happy that it was slowing down and he could relax a bit. However, it was also sad since he'd be making less money in the mean time. Despite his desire to have the cash flow in he knew that a large rush like that wasn't sustainable for an entire day. He'd eventually run out of food to serve people. Not to mention the toll it would take on the group. Dee Dee and BombDee were already having trouble keeping balance. Although they were keeping up in speed it was troubling how often they stumbled. As the hours passed Andy rapidly swapped between the grilling the meat and preparing the food as needed. With Dee Dee being kind enough to assist him and her companions working as well it was the least he could do to pull his weight. Their help made the day a breeze. Once again he wished he had his own companion to assist him in the kitchen. He had the Chef in the Kitchen Forge, but they couldn't leave the Forge and could only use specific Ingredients. Maybe if he was lucky one day he could get a small friend of his own. It was no use hoping for the future however. At the moment it was much more important to focus on the present. At least until the festival was done or he ran out of food, whichever came first. Andy was sure he brought enough to last the day so it was unlikely that would happen, but a man can dream. Although with him and the customers tossing the scraps to Jimmy the idea began to seem more and more possible by the minute. With the crowd slowing down Andy finally saw the chance to talk to Dee Dee a bit more. "Did you make your cart yourself Dee Dee? I imagine one sized for you is hard to come by normally."deedee |

Andy was glad that Dee Dee was able to keep up with him. He was uncertain of how she would do with such a large crowd after having only run her food cart before. Although he'd never seen it so maybe it's larger than what he was imagining and allowed her to serve many people like this. He'd had to see if he can visit her one day when it was set up. Regardless she was keeping pace with him and only slowing down to grab some ingredients she needed. If not for that she may have been even faster than he was. Much to his surprise, BombDee seemed to be quite capable as well. They may have stumbled once but were quick to recover and didn't let it get them down. If not for the fact he thought it may be almost impossible Andy would likely try to recruit her for his restaurant right then and there. He'd likely have to settle for a business partner at best, but that was a conversation for another time. There was far too much going on to think about that or why Dee Dee sent him a private message instead of using her bubble. If she didn't want the information getting out he wouldn't pry further. "Sounds like a plan. I wish you luck, Dee Dee!"Hearing the crowd all abuzz about Dee Dee's book Andy knew for certain that picking her to come with him was the perfect choice. What better place to spread her book and talk about her blog than at a festival that's bound to draw a ton of people? Kramer was doing a great job of handing out Dee Dee's book. It was no surprise that the baby dragon was well-trained like her other companions. It took him a while since he was preoccupied with his own cooking, but eventually, Andy noticed Dee Dee during one of her fumbles. Despite this, she seemed to be keeping up still, but then he saw it again. He frowned and imagined what would happen if she didn't manage to catch herself one of these times. Andy quickly typed out a message to send to the girl. He didn't want to embarrass her after all. "Hey, Dee Dee do you think you could use that star of yours for a better stool? You could move it around maybe. I don't want to see you get hurt."While he was relieved that the customers hadn't yet noticed that Dee Dee isn't playing around Andy was hoping that Dee Dee could find a solution before something bad happened. As Andy read Dee Dee's reply he made his way to his feet and brushed the dirt from his pants. "Using your cart to cross-promote your book and vice versa is brilliant. You can spread information much faster than you could otherwise and make money while you're at it. Have you traveled far yet Dee Dee? With the teleporters up and running you must have brought your cart to some fantastic places. So far all I've been to is some countryside in the UK and Unison Central in Europa."Andy turned back towards the direction they came from. He patted down his pockets and checked the area to make sure he didn't leave anything behind. It would be a shame to come out here just to forget the items he came for. As he began to prepare some meat on the grill Andy read Dee Dee's message and he couldn't help but wonder how his stats compared to hers. With the integration of the system into the world it's theoretically possible for someone to be much stronger than their body would normally allow. “Out of curiosity Dee Dee what do your stats look like anyways? I'm level 6 at the moment and my highest stat is 30. I got lucky with some extra stats from the tutorial. I'm trying to get it up to B Rank at the moment to level up an ability I have.” By the time the customers arrived at their station, the first batch of proteins was finished. Andy cut them into bite-sized portions and placed them in their ingredient containers at each of their stations. He saluted the BombDee back and was glad to see that the girl's companion knew what they were doing. While BombDee worked the other register he took care of the one on his side. It had been some time since he'd been behind the register, but it began to come back to him rather quickly. As he began to make the various orders on his side he began to respond to Dee Dee. Andy made sure to speak loudly and clearly so that she could hear him over the crowd. “That Guide Book has helped me out quite a bit so far. I chose the Mystery Option and got a Skill that tripled the number of times I can use my Core on a creature. Thank you for that bit of information. I'm sure it'll become invaluable later on.” Soon enough Dee Dee summoned her other companions as well. Jimmy seemed particularly useful at the moment for scrap disposal. Maybe it'll evolve out of its larval stage at some point. Wouldn't that be a sight to see? Andy had set the bait and it wasn't long before the customers were asking about the Guide Book and a use appeared for Kramer besides as a cook. “Dee Dee these people are asking about your Guide Book! Maybe you could have Kramer give some out?” Once the meat on the grill was finished Andy quickly took it off and replaced the ingredients on the grill. Thankfully the beginning of the day was going fairly smoothly as he got back into the swing of working in a stall like this. deedee |

Andy gladly took the fruit juice offered to him. “Thank you, Dee Dee. This is just the thing to hit the spot after some field work.” He said as he brought the juice to his lips and downed half in just a couple of gulps. Although it wasn't a particularly laborious process it always felt nice to have a refreshing drink after some exercise. Digging around the earth can get tiring after a while. Once he was done gulping down most of his drink Andy began to read the message Dee Dee sent to him. “That sounds like a lot of work too. You'd need to make many connections and try to coordinate everything, which may be tough. The blog is more practical than spreading a physical book I think, but you'd need ways to bring attention to it besides word of mouth. Who knows how many people don't know how to work the menu or find the forum.” deedee |

Andy listened to Idir continue to sell him on the Morgue. He seemed rather invested in getting him in the doors. Maybe he was an investor in the business. It would make sure that he'd try to get the shop owner on his side with his goals. “I don't have anything in particular in mind. Do you have any recommendations or see anything interesting in the shop last time you were in? I may be interested in other parts besides the meat. I've heard that the Forge can give you interesting items if you give the Blacksmith materials. I do need a way to hunt the monsters that I cook after all. A horn, claw, or tooth could be turned into a weapon. A hide into armor. I've recently procured some chicken bones from a Demonic Chicken that I have some plans for.”It seemed Idir enjoyed the first taste of the frog that he offered and he hadn't even put any seasonings on it yet. “Just something simple like this wouldn't be able to give buffs to others, unfortunately. I need specific Ingredients that only I can harvest from monsters I kill. It's not even me that cooks the dishes that give buffs. It's a Master Chef like the Blacksmith in the Forge that I give the Ingredients to. It's a shame. I'd love to have a chance to cook in that Kitchen Forge. It's a laborious process to get the Ingredients honestly and I don't even get the satisfaction of cooking them at the end.”Andy began to sprinkle salt and pepper over the portions of frog that he prepared. Now that he knew what it tasted like it was probably best with just simple seasonings and some butter to start. He placed a few cuts of meat on the grill to prepare an actual meal. “Now what to do for a side?” While the meat grilled he dug through the cooler to see what he brought along to accompany the frog. All the while keeping an eye on the meat to make sure it doesn't burn. Well, maybe a bit of char wouldn't be too bad. idir |
