Andy was somewhat jealous of Dee Dee's good luck. The minions she had on their first meeting were interesting, but the new items she acquired since then were amazingly useful. If he were to level up more would he be able to get something great like that too? So far he'd gotten a way to increase the number of times he could attempt to harvest by an incredible amount. “Dee Dee when you say you got them when you leveled up do you mean that you got it from the question mark option?”The menu for the day offered burritos, burrito bowls, and tacos with a variety of meats and toppings. When Dee Dee looked over the menu she would recognize a few of the meats. Among them were Volt Deer and Rush Boar. A section near the top right of the menu had a few premade orders for people to choose from if they wanted. Volt Deer with a lime salsa for a zingy kick and Rush Boar with a chipotle salsa to wake you right up! Summoning the BombDee was a smart idea since Dee Dee would probably be rooted to the stepstool for the remainder of the day. Luckily the stall was set up with two registers and prep stations so she had her own space. There were many plastic containers with the toppings that were prepared beforehand. Andy also had plenty of ingredients to make more if needed, which he hoped it would. “I'm used to working in a kitchen with a lot of people. If you'd like to summon the others you're more than welcome to.” Andy saluted the Waddle-Dee in return. Dee Dee did good work with her creatures. “I think the grill will do just fine. I don't think we'll need Kramer to cook unless we get really busy.”Andy took the tomato from Dee Dee and began to snack on it while waiting for the people to arrive. “Thank you, Dee Dee. You always seem to have a snack on you.” Almost as if on cue, once they were done eating their tomatoes they could hear the clamor of people arriving for the festival. “I'm going to start on the grill. Is BombDee able to handle a register?” He moved over to the grill and began to cook meats to prepare for the guests. deedee |

Andy smiled at the thumbs-up Dee Dee flashed his way and sent one back. He took the tomato from her and took a bite out of it before answering her message. “Sure why not? I could use a quick break before I head back.” He sat down near the girl and her friends while he ate his snack.
“I'm sure it'll be a great help to me. I hope that you can find a good way to spread your knowledge easily. You've been very thorough and I'm sure others who've gotten your book are appreciate it. As will I once I can read it. It would be a shame to not be able to share your knowledge with as many people as possible. The forum is a good idea, but I wish there was something a bit better.”

Andy listened to Idir talk about his plans as he portioned out the meat. As a piece was cut off it was placed into a freezer bag and buried under ice in the cooler he brought with him to keep it fresh while he worked. “It sounds like things are going somewhat well. With your ideas, I'm sure you'll find some more people soon enough. As you said people need to band together to survive in this new world.”[break][break] “The Morgue of Monsters is in Unison Central? I was there not too long ago. I plan on going back soon so I'll have to check it out when I go. He may prove useful for my endeavors.” It felt strange to speak so openly with someone like this. Normally Andy would try to hide his more selfish intentions, but Idir seemed to be of a similar mind. [break][break] Once the meat was fully cut Andy brought out the grill and placed it over the fire. “True. I am fairly limited with what I can do right now. I am hoping to get a new ability soon, but I think I want to focus on upgrading one I currently have for the moment. Who knows what kinds of things I may get by increasing my stats before unlocking the ability? I'm almost excited to find out.”[break][break] Andy grabbed a small piece of frog meat that he put aside and placed it on the grill. It was meant to be a test strip to see how it tasted as well as how long to cook it. He paid careful attention to the texture and once it felt firm enough he took it off the fire. After cutting it in half he confirmed it was fully cooked and tried a bite before offering the other half to Idir. As expected it tasted just like frog legs, but with a much gamier flavor similar to larger herbivorous creatures like moose or caribou. |

When people around him began pointing up at the sky and exclaiming about a shooting star Andy couldn't help but turn his attention to it as well. If only to confirm that they couldn't see a shooting star during the day. He was shocked to see that there was a star in the sky and it was quickly hurtling to the ground nearby. Looks like the festivities are going to be over sooner than expected. [break][break] Before it could hit the ground it disappeared and no damage could be seen. How odd. Though Andy began to understand what happened when he saw a small girl walking his way. It was Dee Dee of all people. It seemed she found another item themed after a video game. As she walked her way over a speech bubble appeared above her head like a comic book. He chuckled to himself. What a perfect item for her. [break][break] “I'm glad it was you that answered Dee Dee. I don't have to train a new person and I can trust that you know what you're doing. Those new items of yours seem pretty useful. You can use your hands now while you're talking to somebody!” Andy seemed to suddenly remember something and grabbed a stepstool from under one of the counters. “You may need this.” |

Andy would continue to forage around the area until he was satisfied that he had gathered enough to last him while also leaving enough for them to regrow. It looked like Dee Dee was doing the same. Soon enough she got finished and sent him another message that he read over. He was somewhat surprised at the girl's willingness to hunt and kill. Considering her connection with animals, she seemed like the type that would be against it. Regardless he was glad she was able to provide such information. [break][break] He thought for a moment before responding. “It would probably be hard on a large scale. You wouldn't be able to power a city. Perhaps a Guild with a member who excels in taming monsters wouldn't have much of a problem. They could even act as a form of defense if trained properly. Anyways I'll have to try to get my hand on some Rush Hogs at some point. You make them sound fantastic.”[break][break] Andy read over Dee Dee's second message and nodded. It seemed like she got quite a few good results so far. “Sounds like you've got some nice items. Well, I hope my first trip to the forge goes as well as yours have been.” Not to mention his first attempt at his own Kitchen Forge. [break][break] Not too long after Dee Dee pulled out her lunch Andy finished up collecting the nearby plants. Seeing how she was relaxed and eating with her pet he decided it may be best to leave her to it. “Perhaps it would be best to call it a day. I've gathered quite a bit and you've given me a lot to think about. And read about it as well. That guide is going to be a tremendous help I bet.” Andy picked himself up off the ground and brushed himself off. “And you've gotten to explore a new area as well.” |

As they walked Andy's attention was brought away from the menu by the Waddle-Dee at Dee Dee's side. It was trying to get the girl's attention for some reason, but he couldn't figure out why. It performed some sort of hand motion he didn't recognize, but she responded and began to type. When Dee Dee moved through the bushes he'd move around them, unlike the first time. He didn't want to take the chance that he'd lose anything in the bushes. [break][break] Andy read the first paragraph of Dee Dee's message and seemed to be lost in thought for a moment before finally opening his mouth to speak. “Volt Deer? Those sound like they could be dangerous, but useful. A creature that can generate electricity like that would be a good power source if we could find a safe way to harness it.” He brought a hand up and rested his index finger on his chin. His thumb slowly ran back and forth over the bottom of his head as he thought. “The Rush Hog Sows could be very useful as well. I wonder if they could be tamed to hunt truffles like pigs? That could be used to bring in a hefty profit. Not to mention the meat from the males.”[break][break] Maybe he said too much. Andy wasn't sure how the girl would react to his intentions. She seemed to value animals quite a lot judging by the creatures she kept at her side. He quickly read the second paragraph and began to speak again in an attempt to distract her. “It lets you use points to combine items? Interesting. I have access to my own Forge, but I can only use it to create food. Have you gotten anything good from the Forge before?”[break][break] After Dee Dee gave him the thumbs up Andy began to look around the area. There were quite a few wild herbs that he could see around them. “You said you hadn't gone this far into the forest yet right?” He summoned a large serving spoon in his hand and began using it to scoop herbs from the ground with the roots primarily intact. Each was placed into a bag left open along with a bit of earth from the area. |

Andy couldn't help but notice that Dee Dee didn't laugh at his joke about the daffodils. Oh well. He couldn't expect every person to know that toxic daffodil bulbs looked like onions. What really caught his eye though was that she avoided his question about the local fauna. Maybe she caught on to his intentions and he'd have to come back another day for such things. [break][break] He eagerly grabbed the menu from Dee Dee when it was offered to him. “Yeah let's get going to the next area. I'll read on the way.” He got up off the ground, brushed himself off, and began to examine the menu as they made their way to the next location. There were a few interesting dishes that he hadn't seen before involving tomatoes. Andy was somewhat impressed with her ingenuity and dedication to a single ingredient. It was almost the opposite of his style. He gained a certain respect for the girl. [break][break] He was sure that Dee Dee would be disappointed to hear it, but the food wasn't the most interesting thing to Andy. In a little note off to the side, she was advertising trips to the Forge. He had access to his own Kitchen Forge, but he hadn't had the opportunity to try it yet. Maybe he could get some more information out of his little guide. He pointed at the note on the menu. “Dee Dee what is the Forge?” |

Andy raised an eyebrow as Idir mentioned being a player. “A player? Like the 'I have a girl in every port' type of sailor?” He wasn't quite sure what the other man meant. Maybe since what everyone uses to see their stats and abilities was called the system some people called themselves players like in a video game? It wasn't an expression he'd heard before, but it came as no surprise that people would find new ways to label themselves. [break][break] Andy continued the process of breaking down the carcass as they spoke. As a piece of meat was cut off he placed it on the platter next to him and moved on to the next. “I'm glad to see that more people are banding together. We have a much better chance of survival if we work together. It's foolish to think that somebody could make a go of it on their own. How many people have you found to join you so far?”[break][break] It had been quite some time since somebody had called him Larsen. For a moment he felt a wave of nostalgia for the kitchen. Andy listened to Idir's vision for the future and smiled. “I agree that these products will be in high demand. My food can give people buffs for a certain time and I'm sure that any product made of monster materials will be more sturdy than a usual item. However, if we're not careful it could quickly become a buffalo or elephant situation where people are unsustainably killing these creatures for only small parts. What is The Morgue Of Monsters?”[break][break] Andy smirked as Idir posed a challenge to him. Not one that he would have much difficulty with on a normal day, but he wasn't prepared for today. “I haven't made Blood Curd before, but I've tried my hand at Blood Sausage. I don't see why we couldn't replicate the same dish with the blood of monsters as long as it isn't toxic.” Once he was finished butchering the frog he tossed the body around and began to examine it in more detail since he didn't need to worry about the meat. “I don't think we'd be able to do it with this one, unfortunately. It's been dead too long for us to get the blood out of it and I don't think I have what I'd need to prepare it either.”[break][break] Andy brought the platter of meat over to Idir's table and began to break the large cuts down into more manageable portions for the two. “What do you mean by the limits of the Class? I think as long as it could be considered food in some portion of the world I should theoretically be able to create it. I traveled around the world a lot before all this happened. I have a decent enough idea of the world's cuisines, especially the strange ones. I'm curious to find out what else my Class can do. So far I can just cook food and summon kitchen utensils.” |

Andy began to pick out resealable plastic bags from the messenger bag slung over his shoulder and place them in the basket Dee Dee gave him as the pair walked through the forest. They were the bags that he had filled before with what he managed to forage. Each one was labeled with a sticker that had the name of whatever it contained written on it. [break][break] When Dee Dee pointed out berries and herbs he would grab a new plastic bag, place a label on it, and stuff it with the object. Andy made sure to leave enough for it to regrow of course. There was no sense in stripping all the resources from the area. That would just make it harder to find them again later and nobody wanted that. “Dee Dee you seem to know your way around these woods very well. Have you seen any interesting animals out here yet?”[break][break] “Those all sound very good Dee Dee. I'd love to see your menu and try your food sometime. He almost felt bad for trying to get some information out of Dee Dee on where such things could be found. |

Andy had no idea that Dee Dee happened to already know the two that he was planning to introduce her to. What a small world. Regardless he was happy that he could help her in return in some way. The bestiary was going to help him in his quest more than she probably expected. “Great! We'll have to set up a time for you to meet later. I'm sure great things will come from this.”[break][break] Andy chuckled when he noticed the slight change in Dee Dee. The girl was just as adorable as the baskets she made. “I'm glad you have a sense of humor Dee Dee. It'll make the trip much more interesting. Roots? Do you mean ginger and potatoes? I've wanted to try my hand at making root beer for quite a while now. What do you make at your food cart Dee Dee?”[break][break] “Lead the way. I'll take whatever you can show me.” He watched her disappear into the bush and followed her through. It was best to follow the expert after all. |

Once Andy heard his name being called out he immediately took his attention away from his notebook. He waved back at Kael and stashed his notebook in his pack before shaking their hand. “It's good to see you too Kael! Things have gone relatively well on my end. I did a few missions and leveled up a bit. I'm level 6 now after everything. I haven't gotten any new abilities or anything yet, but my stats are looking pretty good I think.”[break][break] “I ran a stall at a large festival and helped protect traders returning home after. I met some interesting people. A really strong woman named Argent helped protect the traders. A kid named Dee Dee runs a blog teaching people about the system. You met Jeanne-Marie. It'll be nice to relax a bit after a long few weeks.” After going on and on about what he'd been up to Andy finally stopped to ask Kael. “So what have you been doing lately?”[break][break] Andy watched as Kael checked his belongings and couldn't help but sigh. “Kael isn't that something you should do BEFORE you get out here? What good is checking going to do now if it was left at home?” He grumbled, but let out a chuckle afterward. “Think you're all set to head out to camp?” He picked up his cooler and pack to begin the trek to their camp site. |

Andy examined the books Dee Dee produced for him. They all had slight differences but were close enough. It gave them a certain kind of charm. “I know someone who runs a bookstore and another person who is an excellent merchant with many connections. They may be able to help you increase the spread of your book. Everyone should have access to this if possible. Maybe I could introduce you in return for you doing the same for the gardener and farmer.”[break][break] Andy took the basket when it was offered to him. “These baskets are quite adorable as well. It's too bad you don't know any streamers. A lot of people nowadays are more likely to watch video tutorials than read instruction manuals. Not that that should discourage you. I'm sure your book has helped a lot of people. I know the bestiary will be particularly useful to me.” He placed the book into his inventory. One of the few things he knew how to use before reading the book due to his limited video game knowledge. [break][break] “Yes if you don't mind. I've been looking for plants to cook with and start to grow. I'm not too familiar with foraging, unfortunately. I know what it looks like in the kitchen, but finding it in the wild is a different thing entirely. If you could show me what to do I'd greatly appreciate the help.” |

Andy continued to eat his tomato as he read Dee Dee's message. She'd been here a while. No wonder she knew so much. He took the book from her when it was offered and flipped it open with one hand to begin reading it. The book cover was fairly cute and the handmade aspect gave it a certain charm. “You wrote your own guidebook about the system? Have you thought about mass-producing this?”[break][break] Another message popped up. Once Andy was done reading it he began flipping through the book to skim it over. “There is a friends system? You've been very thorough with this Dee Dee. You could have been a teacher if all this didn't happen. Hell, you probably still could be. Do you know any streamers?” It seems he couldn't turn off his instinct to seek profits. [break][break] As Andy continued to skim through the book he realized just how much Dee Dee had seen so far and just how much he didn't know. “Thank you for this Dee Dee. This will be a great help. You have a blog? Like something on the community forum?” He finished off his tomato and wiped his mouth off before wiping his hand off on his pants. [break][break] Andy began to fiddle with his system menu and try to incorporate the advice he skimmed over. He'd have to give it a more thorough read later when he had more time. There was still work to do for the moment. |

He tried to see if he could spot a hearing aid or implant on her while she seemed to be dealing with something. [break][break] That something seemed to be trying to send him a message via the system. Andy blinked as the message popped up to him. He'd used the Global Chat Room before, but he had no idea you could directly message a person. “Dee Dee you seem to know quite a lot. How long have you been loaded in? Also, how do you send a direct message like that?”[break][break] Andy read the message that popped up in front of him and a smirk spread across his face. “Yes I'd love it if you could introduce us! You're able to summon all these creatures already? That's rather impressive. I haven't been here long. Only a couple of weeks.”[break][break] Andy took the tomato from Dee Dee and sniffed it to see if it was fresh before taking a bite. The quality was better than expected. “Did you grow these as well or are these from your gardener and farmer friend?” |
