To the wolves, it's both. A friend of Lowell is a friend of the pack. Even Lowell knew how much they liked anyone he befriended as long they didn't have any dubious motives. "Not much. I was planning to get back on hunting and do some missions on the side," he answered while petting Shadow's head. "I've been out of the leveling game lately, so I need to get back into it soon."

Once he heard Kurai's plans, he nodded in response, knowing the state of the guild at the moment. "In Utopia, you're always welcome. It would be a waste if it got dissolved if the acting guild leader did not act soon. It's a peaceful place where we can get along and bond with benevolent monsters in the area." Lowell then hummed in thought. "I wish I could do something to get the guild back in shape."

With the window popping up to announce their success, the wolves howled for their owner's success. But then realized that would mean they had to part with the nice lady. Seeing this, Lowell approached them and smiled while petting their heads. "Don't worry, we'll meet her again. I promised," His words were enough to cheer them up as they licked his cheeks. "Hey! Down, guys! I'll give you snacks later. You should wait for hers once we meet up again."

"Soyeon, huh? I'll make sure the wolves and I will be visiting your shop someday." His wolves barked happily to the nice lady. Then, Lowell's expression grew stern upon hearing Soyeon's warning. "I guess that guy isn't the only one who might be causing trouble outside of town, huh? I'll keep your advice in mind. There's no way I will let them hurt me, my wolves, and anyone on my watch." He then started leaving with his pack. "I'll be careful then. See you, Miss Soyeon!"

With that, he left Soyeon. But not before enjoying the festivities on his own. A good security guard and his guard dogs needed to have a well-deserved reward after all, right?

Lowell couldn't help but blush. The more Soyeon lectured him, the more he saw her as his mother. If it wasn't for his maturity and awareness of their ages, it would have been awkward or creepy to his taste. Plus, it didn't matter now that the incident had come to pass. His wolves were too focused on getting more pats from Soyeon while their owner laughed heartily. "At least you've cared not only for me. Thank you again, miss. I'll keep your advice to heart." His wolves howled in unison at his words.

Just then, a window popped in front of him. This time, it informed him that the mission was almost over since their shift was almost done. "We're just about done here. Once I'm done here, I'm heading back home to prepare for the hunt tomorrow. Nice meeting you again." His wolves howled goodbye before they and Lowell left Soyeon. But not before he stopped and turned to her. "Before I go, can you tell me your name? I haven't got yours before the whole incident."

Well, this was a surprise for Lowell. Of all the people he encountered today, he found Kurai after a long time ever since the Utopia party. He didn't know what happened to the guild afterward. But lately, he was busy with finding a home that accommodated him and his wolves. So seeing a familiar face was enough to bring them smiles outside of their little game.

"Hey, Kurai! It's been too long." He let his friend feed his wolves some snacks he brought. Suffice it to say, they were ecstatic to see something other than meat raining down on their mouths, much to Lowell's amusement. He then turned to Kurai with a smile. "So how've you been lately? I've been off the grid lately, so I haven't heard much about Utopia lately."

Lowell sighed in relief that the little incident was over. Yet it was brief as he found himself being hugged by Soyeon. Just hearing her calling him out on his reckless actions made him realize he worried her a bit too much. While it was worth the risk of apprehending the criminal, he didn't realize until now how he made her worried because of his little stunt. This made him reminded of his mother back home, which he missed greatly as a thought of her was enough to make him frown.

"S-Sorry... I thought it was good since I have Shadow and the pack helping me." Now that he said it, he realized that might not be good for Soyeon to justify his actions. Even if he was in a world full of monsters and superpowers, he was still vulnerable as a human and one wrong step could mean his death. "Still, I'm very sorry. I promised I'd be careful from now on."

His wolves looked at their master sadly. They didn't understand why, but they bowed at Soyeon while whimpering their apologies to support Lowell. He knew it wasn't necessary, but he appreciated their efforts. Besides, she also congratulated him for his efforts to protect everyone and that was enough despite the scolding. "Thank you. I'm just glad you're okay. I hope that guy didn't scare you. Whoever he is, that warning should be enough to stop other party crashers from harming everyone."

Lowell growled as he watched the poor stand owner being taken hostage by an entitled customer. Normally, he would remain calm and simply kick his knife before tackling it down. But this wasn't the world he knew. Here, most of them transported here were granted superpowers based on fantasy RPGs and there was a chance he might be one of them. He needed to be careful unless he wanted him to burn the guy or worse. But to his surprise, Soyeon whispered to him to calm down and not do anything rash. He was relieved for her to ground him before recklessly tackling him. Yet the most shocking part was she stepped forward and calmly asked the hostage taker to put the man down.

"Pfff... Sassy old lady, aren't you?" The man smirked as he removed the knife from the stand owner's neck, allowing him to run away and hide behind his stand. "Glad you've understand. But I'm still not satisfied." He then pointed his knife to Soyeon's neck with a twisted smirk. "How about you apologize by offering y-"

Lowell didn't let him finish his malicious offer as he quickly tackled the hostage taker to the ground. The man tried to struggle, but he found himself face-to-face with Shadow and Claw growling at him. "B-Bastard!" The hostage taker's arm holding the knife began to glow. "I'll teach you t- OW!!!" To his horror, the man turned to see a third wolf biting his right arm, causing him to drop the knife as he flinched from the pain.

"Nice timing, Cloak! Good girl!" His third wolf happily panted at his compliment. But it was brief as Lowell glared at the man and said, "I suggest you stop resisting. Unless you want to see a fourth wolf coming to bite your neck next." He didn't want to resort to his transformation ability. But if the man continued to struggle to the point of murder, Thankfully, Cloak's presence was enough to make him drop his knife and let Shadow take it away from him.

He then apprehended the man and turned to the nearby festivalgoers. "Sorry about the disturbance, everyone. Rest assured this man will be dealt with non-fatally, so please enjoy the festivities with no worries." With his declaration, he took the man away and let the proper authorities who approached him take care of him. After that, he turned to Soyeon and smiled. "Thanks for your help, ma'am."

Lowell couldn't help but watch Claw being jealous and ended up sharing the affection from Soyeon. Even after he gave her a grim answer, she was able to keep her chin up and look on the positive side. He felt bad to hear about her daughter, yet he was relieved to see she wasn't the type to get her down so easily. If there was a chance he could locate her, he would let Soyeon know immediately.

Back at the job in question, Lowell looked around with vigilance while the wolves were busy with Soyeon. "Nothing so far. Looks like everyone is too busy enjoyi- Hello..." He turned towards one of the game stands and noticed some of the players were harassing a civilian. They were not far, but he could barely hear them enough to know that were trying to get the bigger prize despite the game stand owner telling them they barely reached the high score. "Strike that, there's already trouble. Shadow, come on!"

While the first wolf was disappointed at how Claw stole his attention, Shadow wasn't the type to retain a grudge for long, especially when it came to work. He quickly followed his owner from behind as Lowell calmly approached the chaos in question. "Sorry to disturb you, sir. But I would ask you to leave if you continue harassing this man."

"What the hell are you talking about?! I have the right to that prize and there is no way in hell that guy told me I don't have a right to earn it!" The man yelled at Lowell, who remained stern despite a brief flinch from his outburst. "Besides, who do you have the right to kick me out?"

Lowell narrowed his eyes at his question, causing him to flash a badge meant for volunteer security along with Shadow growling at the unruly visitor. "Can't you tell by this badge? This festival is meant for everyone to have fun, not make a ruckus over your unworthy prize. I suggest you stop resisting and leave that man alone. Or else..."

At least the lady was able to keep her spirits up despite their current circumstances. Lowell was surprised at how energetic and young she looked despite her age. However, her words did worry him about his future. He was in college before the whole Mass Awakening situation and he was worrying about his future when he finished college and became a mythology researcher. While his goals were now impossible thanks to his new life here, he couldn't bear to imagine what he would look like living here in his 30's to 40's. "For me, I tried enjoying everything here despite the dangers. I'm still in my 20s and I can't waste time fighting in the frontlines all the time."

Meanwhile, Shadow was still enjoying Soyeon's company as he kept accepting all of her baby talk and pats he could take. He was so into it that he didn't notice another [Howling Shade] glaring at him until the last second. At first, Shadow tried to ignore him, but Claw's glare was too much for him, so he finally backed off and let him have his turn. While there was no violence between them, Lowell couldn't help but wonder if all of his wolves were too affectionate with humans a bit too much.

Then, after the woman introduced herself, he became intrigued by her current work. "Recycling items, huh? That would be useful for some materials and unwanted items I get from my missions and hunts. I'll be sure to visit it when the time comes." However, the festive mood was briefly interrupted when the lady asked him if he had seen her child lately. Lowell stared at the photo for a while and hummed to recall anyone. But he shook his head and said, "Not to my knowledge, no. I haven't seen her around here. Maybe she might still be in limbo. But that's my best guess. I'm sorry if I didn't help much."

Lowell smiled with a chuckle while rubbing the back of his head. "I'm alright. Don't worry about it." Then after listening to her reasons, his eyes widened to learn her role in this new world. "I'm surprised you're willing to take a security job despite your lack of fighting skills. No offense."

Before he started to scold himself for making that seemingly offensive remark about the lady, she was quickly occupied by Shadow's presence. A normal person would have been worried that a wolf made of shadows would bite them or go through them. But Lowell knew Shadow was more than that. Heck, out of all of his wolves, Shadow liked the attention and he made himself corporeal enough to have the nice lady give him compliments and pats. This made him wonder how he was able to be a ferocious wolf and an affectionate dog at the same time as he watched his wolf wag his tail happily.

It has been a while since Lowell participated in any festival. Although he was concerned about partying in a world filled with monsters and dangerous areas, he was relieved to see some civilizations take time to create a festival to motivate any player who was paranoid and fearful to fight on the frontlines. So the moment he saw a mission to help with the preparations, he couldn't afford to skip it for the sake of others.

As for the duty he had chosen, Lowell knew his physical abilities along with his handling a pack of shadow wolves under his command would help with the security. With monsters still roaming around near the festival grounds along with rogue players causing chaos, he knew he was fit for the job in the resume.

So here he was with Shadow being summoned as a pseudo-guard dog partner. All that was left for him was to patrol around to check for any signs of troublemaking.

That was all Lowell could hear from Shadow and the other shadow wolves as he came back carrying 10 pounds of meat not far from the civilization in Los Angeles. Lately, he was going out to hunt with his [Howling Shades] for food and materials and while it helped him and [Utopia] from the changes they endured lately, he was aware of how much he neglected his level due to his using his points to aid the guild instead of himself. And while he was relieved to see his pack happy as he distributed the meat to them in chunks, he knew they weren't enough to satisfy their shared desire to become stronger. Sure, he could try to find a party and mission to get some points. But he wasn't sure if there were willing parties to accept him with his class that allowed him to summon wolves and transform into one.

Sighing, he gently stroked Shadow's head with a melancholic smile. "Yeah, I know you want to head out so soon. But right now, I need to decide what to do from here. I can't stay here and help out the guild all of my life after all." He then hummed as he opened his menu. "I wonder if there are missions made specifically for us..."

As he said this, two of his [Howling Shades] were playing at the side with a wooden disk Lowell made for them. They stopped to see someone coming in their direction and like any good puppy, they ran to them, offering them the disk in a game of fetch.

As Lowell was too focused on scouring through the darkness with his wolves' help, he managed to find a glint shimmering in front of him. Normally, he would have rushed towards it to see if it was the stone needed for the Urgent Tutorial Quest. But he knew better than to drop his guard. Instead, he let his wolves go first and when they saw no signs of foul play, the young man cautiously waltzed towards a pedestal with a smooth sphere shining through the faux stars around him. "Is that one of those stones the tutorial wants me to find?"[break][break] He carefully removed the sphere from the pedestal's pillow and just as he could take a closer look at it, he got a notification. [break][break] [You found the New Moon Stone!] [break][break] After looking at it, Lowell sighed in relief and quickly put the stone in his pocket. "Guess that's one down. But we shouldn't keep our guard down so soon." He pointed at two of the wolves. "You two, make a pincer before me." He turned to another [Howling Shade] who was walking by his side. "And uh... Shadow! Can I call you "Shadow"?" The wolf stared at Lowell with its head tilted. But it happily barked in response. "Alright. Shadow, Sniff this and see if you can find something similar nearby. It might not be the same or so, but at least we might get a hint on where the next stone is. The rest of you should cover any blind spots and ambushes coming towards us."[break][break] With his wolves' howl, Lowell resumed his search. Once again, he preferred risk over sacrifice for safety for the second stone. He had a lucky break with the first one, but he knew it wouldn't be the same with the next. After a few minutes of walking, Lowell grew unnerved as he scanned the long path while walking through it without making unnecessary footfalls. So far, he and his Howling Shades have passed three rights and one left corner with their assistance. Yet, he hadn't seen any dead ends, and everything seemed quiet even at the start of the labyrinth tutorial. He knew he was a bit paranoid, but something about the eerie silence meant something would have happened like with the Terracotta golem he fought with Hanae. On the other hand, he knew he was a bit closer to the exit and there was no way this so-called "tutorial" would let him out that easily.

The young man gasped to hear one of his wolves howling at him. "Huh? Is somet- WHOOOOAAAA!!!"

Before he knew it, he noticed the floor grew darker and the walls began to expand. All of the wolves huddled up in front of their master. As for Lowell, he saw the labyrinth around him seemed to disappear as what was in front of him became a chamber filled with walls reminiscent of a night sky and stars. This was not what he expected for a labyrinth-type challenge. He was expecting some kind of an obstacle course, not a nighttime chamber.

But then, he saw the new message in his HUD. It took him a while to read the whole thing and it didn't take long for him to understand the new mission set on him. "So I have to find 4 Lunar Stones to leave this chamber, huh? I can get them easily if I give up one [Howling Shade]..." At the mere mention of those words, all of his wolves grew fearful of him, worried he might do the deed. However, just one look at his pack made him reconsider. They did save his life from time to time and they were very friendly to him. If he sacrificed them now, there was a chance he couldn't call them back. "Nope. I'm not going with that route. Let's do it the old-fashioned way. If there's a monster waiting for us, I'm counting on all of you to help me out."

Upon hearing his resolve, the wolves' fears dissipated, and quickly licked at their master. (And just in time another wolf joined the pack out of nowhere. He had a feeling he just took a hard mode of this tutorial. But it wasn't enough to deter him. For now, he should focus on finding the stones before expecting the unexpected. Obviously, he hadn't seen the Lunar Stones before, so he couldn't rely on his Shade's smell to track them down. So first off, he needed to focus on locating them before anything else. "As usual, stay with me and don't get lost. If there is a monster waiting for us, then we have to be ready."

There's a chance he might encounter more monsters than he expected. If he wanted to prepare himself, he needed to save his strength and avoid using his skills and abilities recklessly. Of course, there was also a chance the tutorial might force him to do the opposite. Either way, he started searching around to find the stone hiding in the chamber's darkness.

[attr="class","lowe2reescroll"] As he passed through the corners and walls surrounding him and his pack, Lowell looked around at the maze itself. Now that he looked closely at the tutorial area, he could tell it might take a long time to get through without running into a few dead ends. [break][break] An hour passed and he managed to get through half of the labyrinth. Lowell sighed in relief and turned to his wolf pack. "So far, so good, guys. We made some progress and got through the traps with no problem! A couple more corners and we're out of here in no time!" He continued walking through the path until he stopped. "Hang on, weren't there 4 wolves just now?" The shadow wolves looked at each other in confusion. "I haven't changed into my werewolf form again, but another one of you guys appeared without my input." Lowell hummed in thought as he opened up his stats page and read through its contents for a while. " I see. So after about an hour or so, I can automatically summon another wolf, or [Howling Shade] as the window puts it. So even if I don't transform, I can wait a few hours for a maximum of 6 shades to come here through my ability. Who knew this class they assigned me fits really well with my knowledge of werewolves and wolves in general?"[break][break] Along with his major, which allowed him to research werewolf mythology, he also minored in animal biology to learn more about the basic anatomy, habitat, and behavior of wolves. Thanks to that along with his Mythology major, he also learned most of the canine species related to wolves and the various cultures revolving around them. So he was a bit perplexed and amazed that whoever kidnapped him and others into this strange world, he was able to survive and learn his new class easily thanks to his obsession and knowledge about werewolves. [break][break] But back to the maze, Lowell continued traversing through it while avoiding traps and monsters thanks to his Shades. But he stopped walking after an hour as he gestured his shadow wolves to do the same. He then looked around and hummed in thought. He was about 75% of the labyrinth, but he was met by three paths that would go in different directions. Each path was almost the same, and even his pack couldn't tell which one as they looked at them, tilting their heads in confusion. [break][break] "Well, this is a problem. One of them might lead us to the exit, but two of them might bring us trouble instead," Lowell muttered. "And we can't afford backtracking after a dead end again. We have to think carefully if we want to avoid any unnecessary fights."[break][break] He would try transforming into a werewolf again to sniff out the right path by himself, but he couldn't use it because of a cooldown since he knew from the games that it wouldn't let him spam a powerful ability so recklessly. Most of them were identically the same in appearance, While he couldn't speak wolf in both forms, he could tell from its expression what it was trying to do. "Are you saying you're going to try guessing the right path?" The wolf barked. "I don't know... The others didn't have any luck with locating the right path..."[break][break] The wolf didn't let its master finished as it turned around and sniffed at each path in front of them. It took them a minute to sniff all of them twice until its ears perked up and barked at Lowell. "Huh? Did you find where should we go?" He was answered by three windows popping in his HUD. It didn't seem like one of them were safe and out of all of them, the middle path was the least dangerous to pass through. He was frustrated at how unfair this was to him, but it didn't seem like he had a choice for that matter. "Man... I don't like where this is going." He sighed. "But I guess it's better than nothing." He turned to his wolf pack. "Stay at all sides and stay alert! I have a feeling behind that path is our last trial."[break][break] He and the Howling Shades slowly entered the middle path as the latter remained cautious at protecting their master. As for Lowell, he tried to take deep breaths, not wanting for the labyrinth to lose his nerve. Even if this was a "tutorial", he knew this wasn't a safe place for him to drop his guard.
