There was a point in time when Hikari would not have wanted to be a part of this debacle. In fact, she would have wanted to run away, never to look back, and to have the proper authorities handle the situation. But this wasn't the good old days, nor was she the same Hikari Uesugi. No, she was someone new, someone who was once caged, now freed. She would do it her way.

"Let's turn the tables against them." Hikari paused a moment, before smiling. "Get ready to ambush them. Watch for the signal." There was a grin forming on her lips, though she made sure to squash it down. Of course, by herself, she would not be truly ready for this mission. But with Andy? Well, they should be fine, right? The man seems capable enough. And to be honest, she wanted to get into some action. It was past time her swords got blood.

In a flash, she changed her demeanour. One from a determined and bloodthirsty woman to a demure and lost-looking one. She held herself in weakness and pulled herself forward. She made sure to have the light behind her, blinding those looking at her directly. The storefront's door was glass, and therefore let the light stream through without consequence.

"E-excuse me..." She paused for dramatic effect. "E-excuse me, but I'm looking for something to eat. I-I-I really haven't eaten much since coming to this place. I just r-randomly appeared out of nowhere. P-please..." As she said the last word, two men came up from behind the corner. It seems that they too were scavengers. They were here for supplies, and possibly saw her and Andy as easy targets. They would soon regret that.

Their wide eyes, and confused looks were good enough for Hikari. They didn't know what was up, that was good. Now for the fun part. As they approached and started asking questions, their weapons glinting in the light, Hikair struck. It was at the moment where they walked past Andy's position. There was a reason for her positioning, after all. Behind her, hidden, were her swords. Shotsuren was already unsheathed when it sprung from behind its mistress and craved straight through the first ambusher's shoulder with a flick of Hikari's fan. She grinned, waiting for Andy to make his move.

Hikari nodded along. What Dee Dee said was certainly true. The world does not run on arrogance, not now, not then. Those who believed themselves to be better were subject to judgement. And then, later on, they find themselves alone and without friends. This is the same with any social circle, even those in the upper echelon. Hikari was never one to snub somebody unless they were rude first. Rudeness has no place in this world.

"I applaud your ability to deal with them then." She bowed her head slightly to the woman. "They would have certainly tested my patience enough that I certainly would have lost it quite a while ago." There was some truth in this, although Hikari knew she would never go on an outburst when her temper was lost to her. Instead, she internalized the anger and channeled it in other ways.

As she listened more about her summons, she realized just how much potential her class had. The growth of her summons could only be symbiotic, wherein one summon's growth is reflective of the summoner. If the summoner did not grow, then the summon wouldn;t either. A symbiosis, a relationship, and therefore a bond to be cherished and nurtured.

She nodded at her last comment. "I suppose that's true. It's a little hard to care for something that isn't living. They then become more like puppets than anything else." This was an unfortunate circumstance. Hikari has seen a lot of zombie movies prior, and so she knew what these "undead" were like if they were based on them. "You make a good point, however. Those who have summons certainly most likely treat their summons as friends and companions." She paused a moment. "It would be hard to not think of them as such.

She waved it off nonchalantly, as though it was all wind now. "We must all exercise caution, after all. Especially in times like these." The reminder of the present danger was true enough, and Hikari was well aware of it all. "I come prepared to anything that I get myself into, so you needn't worry." It was a trait trained into her as a child, though with a different context in mind. [break][break] The plan the woman came up with alongside her observations were sound. Hikari nodded in kind, and made sure to get her Shotsuren ready. It was already unsheathed, and waiting for a command for it to strike. That was the beauty of her weapons, something to both behold and fear. [break][break] With a nod, they began their sequence. First, the woman signaled for them to move. As quiet as mice, they took towards the Daimyo's room, with nobody catching sight nor sound of them. The woman was quick. She poised herself ready to strike at a countdown. Hikari took her fan, and silently followed along. With the final strike, both their attacks severed through the man's throat. A gruesome sight, though effective. The Daimyo both drowned in his own blood, died of blood loss, and had his windpipe severed. In fact, it looked as if his whole throat had been cut in two. [break][break] Hikari smiled to herself, and looked around the room. She spied a collection of weapons and armor, and was immediately intrigued by a fan that had pictures of mythical animals drawn on it. It was a massive fan, one that was mostly used during war. A Japanese War Fan most likely from the Edo period. She compared her fan to it, and felt a satisfied smile. Hikari nodded at his response. The man was polite enough, and he seemed to have an understanding of the situation well enough. It was true, for a lot of people, this change in the situation of life can be seen as an improvement. A new life. A new opportunity. A life of freedom, and one day, prosperity. For others, it might seem like a curse, a trade-off of something good, to something bad, These people might have had a great life in the old world.

"All we can do is to do our best in this new world of ours. After all, surviving is first priority." She commented nonchalantly, before looking towards the store which she had pointed out. With the agreement of the man, and his unusual way of using what she assumed to be a footwear item, Hikari followed suit. It would do well to stick close to the person that seemed to know what he was doing. Learning from the more experienced people usually works out well.

It was only when he had signalled the all clear that Hikari truly followed into the store. She was unsure what kinds of things could be lurking behind the empty shelves and counters. She was not going to risk herself in that way. Instead, she made sure follow int he man's footsteps. It was easy enough, after all.

When she got into the store, the first thing she realized was how dark it was. Hikari felt herself shiver slightly, though she did not show it visibly. Instead, she worked towards going through the aisles one at a time. The store seemed to be stocked, but not as fully as she had hoped. Perhaps this place had been looted, but the previous looters did not bother to tell anybody else about this treasure trove.

There was nothing in her chosen aisle, unfortunately, and she was about to turn to the next aisle when she heard a sound just around the corner, towards the back of the store. She froze and ducked. With a keen eye, she would watch at what thing might pop out this time. Was it a monster perhaps? Or maybe just a small critter? She hoped Andy heard the same and was heading to investigate.

It was an insult to say the least, though Hikari would not deign to respond further. Why should she prove herself to this person? All her life people have belittled her, thinking she could do little while saying less. She would prove them all wrong. She can do what she wanted, achieve the things she wanted in life, and come out unscathed. [break][break] She thought for a moment, before nodding. "If this were a mirror of how things are done, then the last floor is all about timing." There was a time when she would have been told how she was guarded when staying in such a place, and all of those memories came jumping back in. "A guard rotation going around the halls, likely in pairs like before. They would not be idle. We must slip through as one is leaving a hallway and the other is just approaching."[break][break] Hikari then nodded to herself. It was a good plan, a plan where timing and finesse were of utmost importance. And something both of them did not lack in neither shape nor form. [break][break] "The room would not have security. Privacy is of utmost importance for important people." She shrugged then. It was simple enough in her eyes, though it was the timing that made it a bit more difficult. Hikari watched the Catacomb entrance with disbelief. But of course, this was the first mission offered to her in this place. An event, they had said, was happening, and of course, everyone came flocking. But Hikari would not budge until of course they had mentioned it was in Paris.

Paris, the city of dreams. At least, to Hikari it was. It was in Paris that she had fallen in love with fashion. The women's sense of self in this city was self-assured. She felt some freedom visiting this city when she had been a teenager, and now, she walks these streets truly a free woman.

She looked up then, realizing that she was not alone in this mission. Her partner was due to arrive soon, and she was hoping that they were much better in the dark catacombs than she was. But of course, her swords can cut them a path, but another person to join the fray was always welcome, especially in this new and dangerous world of theirs.

The message was reread twice over. It seems that the catacombs need a little cleaning with pests, and Hikari wanted to revisit the eerie place once more. It had scared her prior, though the history and mysteries surrounding the catacombs always enchanted her curiosity. But of course, she would say yes to this mission. A chance to see what the catacombs had become was welcome entirely!

It was a sure death for these two guards, though Hikari doubted that these were real people. Oh they bled real enough, and yet if this was a true tutorial, then others must've had tutorials as well. It is unlikely that they would have encountered real people since it would have severely cut the population if all these tutorials involved death. Then again, it could be the case, and Hikari felt no real empathy. She needed to survive, and she will do whatever it takes. [break][break] As they approached the next floor, Hikari silently watched the assassin at work. There were assassins. And there were assassins. Many play the role, but never truly know what they're doing. It seems that this woman was the latter. That was good, in the case of Hikari and this tutorial. After all, what better person to assassinate a Daimyo than a real assassin? [break][break] At her command, Hikari nodded and followed suit. She had sneaked a glance and saw the guards. This was far from easy, and therefore an unorthodox approach is necessary. Why kill when you can leave no trail, when possible? [break][break] When her companion made her move, Hikari made hers as well. She quickly took a position closest to the wall, before slowly inching her way to the corner. It was only a few moments before she heard a crash. She didn't even need to look twice as the guards responded and acted on the noise. Her item was her boon, and without fail, she made her way past the guards with their backs turned on her. [break][break] "Safe and sound." She whispered to Akane as she motioned towards the staircase. "Onto the next one then." She kept her fan to her side, while her swords floated eerily around her. It was almost unbelievable that they had not made any noise, and yet her item prevailed over her. Passing without a trace was certainly very key to this tutorial. [break] |

Hikari would watch the interaction with both amusement and concern. Amusement in the sense that these people thought they can push others around just because they were "customers". Hikari was one who knew how service must be done, properly and with dignity. Those who served her were trained in Hospitality by the best. And even in her circles, rude patrons are never tolerated.

Her concern, however, was far outlived by the fact that Dee Dee certainly seemed to have a lot of supporters. Regulars, as she called them. Those who would come by again and again, and more than likely have struck a friendship with the odd woman. For truly, she was slightly odd, but certainly very capable, and friendly to boot. Hikari liked her.

"You handled that really well." Hikari observed. "I hope you don't get rude customers like that often?" She was sure she didn't. Who would be so bold as to be so rude in a world like this. In this new world, power meant everything. This means levels, items, and experience. You also never know how strong the person you are up against is until you see them in action. Danger lurks at every front.

The explanation of the summoner about her summons certainly answered quite a few of her questions, both spoken and unspoken. It seems that she had been right in some regard, though there were still questions she had that intrigued her.

"An integral part of your class indeed." She mused, "you have quite an ensemble, and I shudder to think what you can do with all of your friends when the need arises." Hikari didn't doubt Dee Dee's worth. "You mentioned making them stronger. Does that mean that when you level up, as it were, they level up with you?" She would turn her attention towards one of the summons, and continued, "I can also agree that your summons should be respected, and treated kindly. How can one be so callous as to think that a summon isn't sentient, and therefore should be treated with kindness?" It was an observation, nothing less.

Of course, the tutorial was most likely catered to this woman, though Hikari's class seemed to be very well-versed in physical combat as well. And of course, speed. The woman would know better in this regard, and therefore Hikari was more than happy to follow in her wake. The opportunity presented itself well, and Hikari watched as the woman seemed to use bones of all things. It must be something to do with her armor too, if Hikari were to be prudent. It seemed fitting, after all. An assassin by trade? Perhaps the bones were of those she had previously killed. [break][break] Getting into position, and getting her Shotsuren ready. She didn't even need to say anything and instead lifted her fan to her face in anticipation. Her fans seem to be what drove her swords about, and at the same time, the swords themselves seem to be connected to her mental psyche. It was interesting, to say the least, and one that Hikari found to be very elegant indeed. She would not dirty her hands by holding weapons. [break][break] When her companion made her move, so did Hikari. With a flick of her fan, her Shotsuren impaled itself onto the neck of her target, immediately cutting off their windpipe, making them unable to scream. It was a silent urk before the man slumped to the ground. Hikari got to dragging her target to the same dark corner as her companion. [break][break] "I don't doubt your skill and experience, miss assassin. That was quite an effective approach." She paused, before adding, "Very thematic too, especially with the bones and all." Taking a moment to keep her fan, she then continued, "Shall we continue then? This should be a very interesting tutorial indeed." She mused, before letting her companion lead the way once more. To pass without trace was something that was definitely useful now more than ever. She brushed her her fingers on the horn-like crown on her head, before slowly following her companion. She had not caught her name, nor had she offered it, truly. A professional, perhaps? [break][break] There were no footfalls between the two of them. Silent as the shadows, they crept their way, every so slowly going up towards the main floors. That would hopefully lead them towards the Daimyo's bedroom, which was said to be at the very top of the palace. Hikari was used to these luxuries, though for her, she was usually the mistress of the house, not an assassin nor a thief in the night. A thief which stole life. [break][break] When they found a place of solitude, Hikari softly whispered, "It seems you are well versed in this, miss assassin." She would cheekily name her companion. "From what I know of these types of places, we should be seeing some guards soon. They usually roam in pairs, and two sets per floor." At least, that was how her security detail liked to do it in their familial home. [break][break] As expected, two guards turned a corner towards them, though they were still unseen. Her companion, now closer, looked even more odd compared to Dee Dee. Bones indeed! "Or perhaps I should call you, miss bones?" The intricate designs of the place could only mean that this was of the Kyoto design, a Daimyo's palatial abode. [break][break] Before realizing it, a message popped up in front of her. Complete the assassination of the Daimyo, who resides at the very top of the palace before you. Upon completion, you will be transported back into the world. Well, Hikari could also help, but assassination has never been a part of her resume. But then again, her new skills can be very useful in this regard. There was a time when Hikari would not have taken a "no" to being served. Lines were, after all, not meant for people who were born like her. And yet, this was not the same world, and she was not the same person. In truth, it felt freeing to be treated equally, and not held up in a pedestal. It suited Hikari just fine, especially if it freed her from her previous obligations of marriage, child-bearing, and eventually withering away to nothingness. This new existence of hers gave her more meaning, in truth.

"Just answering my questions should be enough, Dee Dee." She acquiesced. "I'm not hungry at this point in time, although perhaps when the line dies down, I might order from you." The smile she gave was one of genuine courtesy. Hikari was surprised when she took a hold of the book. A guide? This would prove useful, though certainly should be kept safe. Mayhaps a late night read for tonight. She quickly kept the book into her inventory, something she was still struggling to fully understand. The need for bags is almost nonexistent besides for certain missions.

Taking a few moments to let the most recent customer to complete their purchase, Hikari found herself looking at the stand itself. Closer, and clearer. The stand was certainly a stand-out. There was nothing like it, at least from what Hikari has seen so far. The sign, the menu, they were all very reminiscent of food stands in their old word, a taste of nostalgia. She can see why many would flock here. It was for the food and for what once was, a reminder of better days (for most people).

"I would love it if you can explain the mechanics of your summons." The question had been on her mind for awhile now. "I'm unused to this new world, and even my own skills are not as clear to me just yet. However, your summons certainly intrigued me." She wasn't sure whether to continue her thoughts, or let them be. Making a decision, she stopped her line of questioning in favour of waiting for a response.

Summons seemed to be very useful. Even now, Dee Dee and her summons can work in tandem together. They were certainly an extension of the summoner, ones that can do their bidding. And yet, there must be a connection there as well. At least, that's what she assumed for it to be. Less of a servant, and more a companion perhaps?

Hikari paused a moment, looking around as she breathed in the air that was London's. This place was different now. Way more so than what she had thought it would be. She had enjoyed her trips to London, and England as a whole, during her childhood summers. The castles were the best, of course. But those were days gone-by. This was a new world, a new London.

What drew Hikari here, truly, was the possibility of learning more about the world. She was trying not to go to Japan just yet. There, she might meet people she would rather not see just yet. She wanted to establish herself first, before seeking out old contacts. She would not be a beggar, groveling or being offered help. No, that was not her way.

A commotion. Perhaps a line-up. Hikari took notice quickly, and found herself drawn towards the small crowd. And was what that smell? Tomatoes, certainly. It only took a few steps for the Uesugi princess to realize who it was that was manning the food stand where everyone was congregating towards.

Perhaps this was an opportunity. After their mission, Hikari had wanted to question the woman more about her summons. Perhaps she herself could get one. But she was not really banking on it. The pets seem to be attached to Dee Dee. Mayhaps it was her class. The only way to truly know was to ask, and so she made her way forward. Bypassing the line, as she was used to in her previous life, Hikari came up to Dee Dee and gave the woman a small smile and bow.

"Dee Dee. It is good to see you. I didn't know you operated a food stand. One that is this successful." She gestured to the line, before looking towards the grill. "Perhaps I can take up some of your time while you cook. I have a few questions about this world, and more importantly, about the summons that you have. Only if you are willing, of course." She acquiesced. It was Dee Dee's time she was taking, after all. She can come back later if needed.

The sounds that the dying deers made would have been a deterrent for other wildlife to come remotely close to their spot. If they wanted to continue to hunt, they would need to go deeper into the dense foliage. Hikari was not about to risk their current kills just for more. It does not do well to bite more than what one can chew, after all. [break][break] As the blood draining winded down, Hikari realized that the woman's summons had been busy putting together a cart. It amazed the woman to no end, and she vowed to herself that she would ask more of the woman and her summons. Perhaps one day she herself can have one, though she was certain it must have something to do with one's class. Her own wasn't summon oriented, from what she had gathered. [break][break] She helped the summons pack up their kill, keeping in mind to make sure that none of the blood would drench her own outfit. She had been careful so far, and only a few specks of blood could be seen marring her dress. It would clean out easily. [break][break] "Your reasoning is sound." She would now escort the cart forwards, her Shotsuren at-the-ready beside her. Her fan was tucked into her waist, hidden away, though digging into her skin slightly. It made her think of her other skill, though one she had not found any use for just yet. "Your class and summons. I would love to learn more about them." She requested as respectfully as possible. [break][break] They would arrive at the village, and quickly, their spoils would be taken and rewards given. She would turn to Dee Dee, give the woman a small smile and bow, before making her way towards the road that would lead her to the local inn. This wasn't their last meeting, Hikari was sure of it.
