Clean and prepare. That was not a good sign at all. Hikari narrowed her eyes as she observed what the woman had been talking about. It seems they had learned their lesson, but definitely not the lesson that she had been hoping that they had learned. With the blood and their injuries, she had been hoping that they would at least leave this haunt. But apparently, it flew over their heads. Perhaps it was a good idea to find some of these people and make sure they learn their lesson properly this time.

"Them coming back is good. This makes it so perhaps we can set-up a trap for them instead, capturing at least one, and having them give us information." By force, if need be. "I cannot believe that they are planning on coming back. I had hoped that they have learned their lesson since the last time they met my blade." Perhaps they needed to her last sword, Kenmyoren.

"Perhaps it was a door bell." She admitted to not knowing. "But if they have finally done these improvement, then that means they would have done something to the entrance too." Hikari cursed under her breath.

hikari stalked towards the front of the store, keeping in mind the clutter and all. Her item made sure she made no noise at all, completely passing without a trace. "Should we check?" She asked Dee Dee, hand reaching for the door.

Hikari supposed the woman was correct in her own way, though Akane might have been taking her words the wrong way. Pride in oneself? That should always be present. Hikari made sure she looked the best, and did her best, because she had pride in who she is. But when it came to jobs, Hikari knew she was in the starting line. But now? Now she was slowly soaring.

"Pride in oneself must always be present, Miss Akane. But I, at least, understand that the world is different and new." Hikari shrugged. She was happy where she was now, after all. "And I suppose you're right. Paris does not hold happiness for everyone. For me, it holds a lot of good memories. Memories of freedom, and opportunity." Where she was not constrained by her family's values. Where she was out of her reach from her family's clutches just for one whole week.

Crime organization indeed. Hikari smiled slyly, before starting. "Well, let me see. Myself and another friend investigated the slums of New York. We recently found that there are people who are taking advantage of new players, and looking to rob and do something worse to them." Dee Dee and herself had an interesting time with that. "We found tags around. A specific symbol. A skull with a floral crown." In fact, she needed to continue her investigations. She might need to contact her small friend to get right back into it.

There was a time when Hikari would have agreed with Akane on both fronts. Having to do menial missions was beneath her social status and rank, while Paris as compared to its once glory, was a rats nest. And yet, they were in a new place, a new city, and a new world. They must do what they must in order to survive, and take joy in things that have been remade, no matter how it paled in its former glory.

"Pride has no place here in this world, Miss Akane. At least, not for us who have just arrived into this pitiful world." It was a belief she held. "There will come a time when my pride is restored, of course. But not today, nor in the foreseeable future, unfortunately." She smiled at that, before shaking her head, "It is not for me to tell you what to do, of course. But don't you agree, Miss Akane?"

She mulled her next response, before nodding. "The place is a shadow of its former glory, but I celebrate its existence, as well as the splendor it brings to this bleak world." Hikari smiled, "Memories that have come and gone, it is a place for me to reminisce my past, and look towards the future with brighter and clearer eyes." She tapped her wine glass, "However, spitting acid, you say? This is certainly useful information." And one that she has to cross reference within Dee Dee's guidebook. "Perhaps you would like to know more about the undead that I've fought recently? Or perhaps the organized crime group that might be lurking in and around New York?" She offered in exchange.

Done before they had arrived? Perhaps they were looters themselves? Or maybe they knew that this was the place to hide and ambush players. Maybe the idea that a store that still has items in it would entice players to come, and then when they were not focusing on anything at all, they would then strike. It was good that Hikari and Andy were attentive at the very least. But then, she remembered something important.

"Andy and I heard something, which tipped us off that there was someone here with us." She peered at the door, "But it couldn't have been this. You said this would have made a lot of noise, that noise we heard wasn't too loud at all." Clumsiness of criminals, she supposed. "When we got here, there was almost nothing. Just enough supplies to entice people to loot, but nothing of importance." At least, that was what she had observed.

"The mark again?" That gave her pause. Was this truly organized crime? If so, what can they do about it? "Let's check inside, see if there's anything else." Perhaps the perpetrators left something in the front of the store. If this was their haunt, then they would have marked it inside to show that they owned this place. That was how it was with her father's connections. Organized crime tended to work in territories. Where one reigns supreme in an area, and anybody that tries to cross that ends up dead, or worse.

"It's here again." Hikari pointed towards the door that led to the store. Just below the doorframe, on top of the door, was the mark. "It's a tag. A territory marker."

Titles meant nothing here. At least, old titles that have been laid to rest. Here, the status quo is different. There were no conglomerates that rule the world, no multi-billion companies that have held sway with the governments of the world. No old money, disregarding laws and getting away because of their name. And it was great! A breath of fresh air!

"Dressing fashionably is one of the only things we can control nowadays with our lives." A way to maintain her dignity, truly. "I would rather not lose that, at least." She smiled at Akane, before taking a sip of her wine. Piss poor quality, but the only thing she can stomach in this world.

Hikari hummed as Akane shared her experience. It seems that woman was pickier than she was. "Truthfully, I had thought of being a bit pickier with my missions. However, I've come to realize that I'm in no position to do so, especially at my current level." She smiled slightly, though she was in a better spot now, she was still a beggar in terms of levels. And beggars can't be choosers.

"Paris has been wonderful, truly! But I'm curious about these spiders. Were they of normal make, or were they of the larger variety? Did they have any sort of special ability?" The world was her oyster, and everything new, she wanted to learn about. Perhaps she can utilize this knowledge later on!

What Dee Dee said was true, and one of the things that had ran into Hikari's mind while the woman was talking was the fact that the blood could have attracted monsters into the store itself. Blood, after all, can be an attractor to the worst kinds of things in this world. Perhaps there were monsters who fed on blood? Who knows?

As well, she was not sure whether the door itself had a ringer. She had not thought about it during her last visit to this place, too preoccupied with being paranoid. Besides, the back is where those men had come through, so if they were truly looking for clues, then the back way was certainly where they wanted to start anyway.

"You're right, of course. I am learning much and more from you everyday, Dee Dee." She followed Dee Dee towards the back, and immediately held her fan out. Her sword, Shotsuren, was at the ready within moments as well. "Not quite. They were waiting for us here at the back, hoping to ambush us as we went in." She shook her head, "They must've come through from here when they saw us make our way towards this building. Therefore this might be the place to start, truly." It was sound logic by Dee Dee, of course. "There were two of them, at least. Perhaps more, though the rest would have scrambled away when we had dealt with the two." A distant memory already, though still fresh.

Dee Dee's comment made piqued Hikari's curiousity. A new one? She had not thought to look at these when she had first came here, having been preoccupied with looking out for any sort of danger. Monsters. Those were the ones she had kept her eyes open for. And she truly did find monsters. Just not the kind that she had thought she would find.

But of course, monsters of all kinds existed. They can come in all forms, even with humans. Hikari knew that better than anyone. The Uesugi family were not only business people. They also had ties in places and things which were deemed illegal in many states, Japan included. All for the sake of money. That was what they had explained to her, her father and uncles.

"Perhaps we should keep this one in mind, and see if it pops up anywhere else, hm?" She nodded, before starting her way towards the store itself. Her eyes would be peeled, her senses heightened, she would not let anything surprised her anymore. Not after last time. She, at least, now knew that this world was way more dangerous than what she had first thought. She had given this world a chance to prove itself, but she was proven wrong time and again. "This one." She pointed to the convenience store, or was it a supermarket. "Shall we?" The blood on the store's entrance could only be from the man she had maimed, as well as the one Andy had stabbed.

The ride on Dee Dee's star was certainly uncomfortable, at least for someone who has never done it before. Hikari was unsure whether she liked this transportation more than being on a plane. Then again, the instant transport system of this new world made traveling just so much easier. In any case, she wouldn't complain. Though she remember that her fan can summon creatures that can transport her as well. Perhaps she should finally use them.

As they closed in on the area where it happened, Hikari waved her hand to the woman. "Land over there. I believe we're close." She gestured towards an abandoned parking lot where junk cars were left to rot. There was enough space for the large star, however, which Dee Dee can use to land safely. Hikari already had her eyes peeled, however, for any sign of danger.

After landing, Hikari would quickly make her way towards one of the walls of the adjacent building. It was the building where the store they had chosen to scavenge had been located in. There were numerous tags on the wall, graffiti that told those who looked as to who had been there. There was one that intrigued Hikari. A skull with a floral crown. An odd thing, really. "How strange indeed."

A fire ant nest? Truly? She had not known that those existed. Perhaps this world has a different sort of fire ant nest, because from what she remembered, fire ants were small. Well, small insects, but larger than regular ants. Were the fire ants here larger? More of a threat? Perhaps she needed to continue to scour Dee Dee's guide sooner rather than later.

"You will have to tell me this story about fire ants later on." She said while slowly getting up. With a wave of her hand, she summoned the server who took her bill. Paid in full. "And we certainly should go on a mission with Andy one day. The man is very interesting enough." She knew he had more up his sleeve, and the last time, she had not even seen the extent of his class. Perhaps she should ask him about it next time.

"Come, let us go then." She said as she hopped onto the large star. It seemed...dangerous, but Dee Dee is not one to put anybody in harms way. Therefore Hikari took her calm demeanour as a sign that it was safe. Besides, what could go wrong?

Indeed, she had been hoping to talk to this woman a bit more after their tutorial. The way she handled things had been resourceful and effective. In fact, her recent missions had been successful because of what she learned from the woman.

Hikari looked at Dee Dee with surprise. Of course she shouldn't really as surprised anymore when it came to these things. It was only logical that Dee Dee would meet Andy at some point in time. The man seemed to know his way around, and Dee Dee was one to meet every new person that had come through the portal. And with her food stand, she would be a magnet for many of those who had just survived their tutorial.

"Perhaps you were the one this person was talking about when they said that their last supplier seemed to have been roughed up by something, and cautioned us of the dangers abroad." Hikari responded in kind. "I believe we're talking of the same Andy, however." The man had been reliable. She would not mind working with him once again later on.

"We can certainly head to the spot whenever you're ready." The earlier the better, she surmised. "Though New York is not considered a safe zone, it is still an area in which lower level people tend to go to. We should head there, close to the settlement of players that had cropped up." New York was vast, and many players had decided to set up shop there. Though it was medium risk, Hikari knew small settlements which housed new and veteran players alike. Having bandits, vagrants, and those ill folk around was not ideal, nor should it be ignored.

She agreed with Dee DEe. "Perhaps it's not organized crime, and I'm just over thinking it. Regardless, having this info out there will warn players to make sure that they're keeping their eyes peeled. Especially in the New York area."

[break][break] As Dee Dee continued her observation, Hikari could only find herself agreeing. But of course, she needed to make sure that she had other items that could protect her. After all, she knew that it was only during her second attack with Shotsuren that she can draw on the power of her class truly with Daitsuren. [break][break] "I have not found any item which I can carry as a weapon just yet." She would want something ranged, as it was her preferred fighting style. "Perhaps one of these days the system will drop me a fan of sorts that can be used in an offensive manner." She had one fan, but it was more utility than anything. "In any case, once you're ready, let us head back and report our success."[break][break] Once Dee Dee was done with her small break, Hikari would lead the way back. It had been an informational mission, and certainly has given Hikari more than a few things to think about when it comes to how she approached combat, and possibly looking for items to support her own style. Hikari waited as Dee Dee wrote stuff down. However, the name she mentioned piqued her interest.

"Andy?" She asked. "Perhaps we are talking about the same person." She paused a moment, recalling everything she knew, before continuing, "Do you mean a person who went on a supply run for coffee? Perhaps we are talking about the same guy, and therefore the same incident?" This would be peculiar and a welcome connection, indeed.

This, however, was a big threat. The problem was that if there are people now actively trying to attack other people for their goods, robbing them or worse, then this should be out to the public. How else can people, especially those new ones who had just finished their tutorials, prepare themselves?

"Perhaps I can take you to one of these sites? Or at least, to the site where Andy and I had gone to." Her main concern wasn't that this was happening. It was the fact that this hopefully is not some sort of syndicate, a group whose whole mission was to sabotage and rob people of their hard work. "I'm sure this might just be vagrants or those who feel the need to cause destruction and chaos, however, I will not eliminate the possibility that this might be organized crime." She let that thought linger a moment.

[attr="class","hikareescroll"] Mission Link[break][break] Dee Dee and her summons did work. In fact, Hikari could only watch as Dee Dee and her summons took over the fight. It seems that they were already done with their side of the goblins, though the woman and her summons definitely had the harder opponent. Now, however, Dee Dee was contending with the leader toe to toe. And it was a battle that had Hikari watching intently. [break][break] It was less the fight, and more how Dee Dee and her summons worked together. The woman was synchronized with her summons, each working off of the other to act in the most advantageous way possible. She analyzed their moves, and saw just how well they fought together. It must be weeks upon weeks of practice, as well as cultivating a bond. [break][break] When Dee Dee called for her aid, Hikari knew that something must've gone wrong. Or at least, Dee Dee had used some spell and it had now exhausted her. She had just realized that Kenmyoren was now unsheathed, gleaming, and ready to taste blood. Hikari finally stepped up and smirked. It was time to dance. [break][break] Opening her fan, and flicking towards her opponent, the three swords struck in synchrony. Shotsuren was first, taking the goblin leader my surprise, and plunging itself into its left eye. Daitsuren came next, as while the goblin thrashed, it found its mark on its remaining eye, blinding it indefinitely. As the goblin leader moaned and screamed, Kenmyoren made its mark by plunging itself onto the goblin leader's forehead, cleaving its way through, leaving a gaping hole. [break][break] Hikari smirked at her handiwork, before turning to Dee Dee. "I believe our work is done. How are you doing? Are you alright?" She asked with concern in her tone. She wanted to make sure that the woman was not at all ill. It was good that their task was now done, however. Now all they need to do was to return and collect their reward. [break] |
