Giant rats. Rats? Giant?? That had been the final straw for Mikael. Rats were pests, done and done. There was arguing about that. Rats got into the shelter once and ate his comic books! They got in the second time, and munched on his stored snacks in the cupboard! They will die, all of them! Mikael promised a vengeance with that. Well, he was being too melodramatic. However, the comic book had been a classic, and he had been broken hearted when he found that rats had munched on its pages. He had saved up pennies to buy it, after all.

That was why he was here. Well, that, and the fact that he needed to get his act together and start working harder. He had been slacking off these past few weeks. No more! He was going to get serious, and he was going to actually try to continue his growth. After all, he didn't want to let the orphans at home down. At home...was the orphanage still standing?

His melancholy was broken by a sound. Mikael turned towards the person approaching and smiled. "Dee Dee! It's been so long!" he had met Dee Dee during one of his down times, where the woman had been selling food out of her food cart. Their interaction was very brief, but he had come to like the woman. She seemed very dependable, and nice. "How are you? How's the food stand goin'?" His smile widened.

It didn't take long for the rest of them to join up, as Kael had already taken a quick look-a-round. It seems that this was a desolate area, most likely in the far north where only ice and snow ruled. Mikael had never been, though he was no stranger to the cold at all. In fact, it reminded him somewhat of his home, at least, the temperature did. Perhaps it was time for him to check his home town. [break][break]
"It looks like this place is just snow and ice. A perfect place to harvest some ice for that ice cream mission!" his eyes gleamed with anticipation, before turning towards the group. He wondered for a moment, before continuing, "We might need to find an ice shelf for this mission, just to make our job easier."[break][break]
Quickly scanning the area, Kael continued, "There seems to be a shelf just over there." he pointed northward, and the shelf can be clearly seen from this distance. "Seems like a short walk, so bringing a chunk of ice back should be an easy task at least." He smiled, before turning back to Andy and Jeanne-Marie.[break][break]
"I was wondering, however, how might we harvest the ice? Did the mission person give you an ice pick, by chance?" He looked towards Jeanne-Marie. He supposed he can punch the ice, but that probably would be a long process, and his fists might just become a bit too bloody for that. "In any case, shall we get started?" Mikael led the procession towards the ice shelf, humming a soft tune as he took an even and easy pace.

Kael looked at the girl for a moment, before his smile widened. It seems they were in the presence of a passioned-filled girl. She reminded him of some of the orphans he used to babysit when he had free time during his university studies. They were as passionate as this Jeanne-Marie, if not even more so. How could she say no to her at all![break][break]
"Why of course we can help! Who could say no to ice cream, hey?" He held out his hand for a handshake, before settling himself. Without thought, he passed then item he had been meaning to give to Andy, and then received his in turn. He would have to peruse through it later on when he had time, for now, they had a mission to do![break][break]
As the two were talking of some sort of trade, Mikael turned his attention around. If they were to get ice for ice cream, then there must be a way to get to the place they were going to.[break][break]
"I hate to bother your exchange, but it seems that the portal here is for us?" He pointed towards a portal that had popped up right next to them. It must be, right? A portal out of nowhere, why else would it show up if not for the quest which they all just got roped into. "Wait, where were we supposed to gather the ice for the ice cream?" [break][break]
He had not thought about that part at all. There was no place to gather ice in this town, at least, not from what he had seen so far. Perhaps this portal was to take them somewhere they can gather this ice from? "Shall I...poke my head through to see?" He spoke to himself, before plunging his head through without thought. Immediately, he was assaulted by snow and ice-cold wind. What he saw made him pull back and smile, "Yup, this portal takes us to a very snowy and icy place." His smile was accompanied by snow already piled on top of his hair.

Kael would chuckle at the thought of both him and Andy bringing down that chicken. It was certainly a memory to be preserved for a lifetime. "Of course, you're right. I'm sure we can handle anything that comes, especially in a place like this." It wasn;t as if they were in a dangerous zone, after all. Besides, he was confident that both him and Andy can take any kind of monster that comes for them. Kael himself has had time to learn new tricks. [break][break]
"Sorry, sorry, new habits die hard." Being alert was the new norm for Kael. In truth, he had never been this on-the-edge, and his new experiences made his life just a bit more dangerous. Unused to it, Kael's actions were certainly more pronounced. He swore to himself that he needed to be more subtle. After all, this world was even more ruthless than what it used to be.[break][break]
Kael nodded along as Andy listed the best ways one can use slime. Specifically, soups! He had not even thought about that way. but bone broth soups would be nice with slime, at least, nice enough. The collagen certainly would make the dish more...of this world. He was about to respond when Andy continued further, which piqued his curiosity.[break][break]
"I'm more than happy to go hunting with you! I'm sure we can find a mission where hunting is the theme. Then we can hunt for extras for you!" Kael didn't mind helping his friend. After all, one cannot have too many friends in this day and age. Besides, he was sure Andy can make something amazing with whatever they hunted. "But you mentioned a stall? Did you open one recently?" He only knew of one person who had a stall, and that was Dee Dee.

Mikael is a happy-go-lucky kind of guy who grew up in an orphanage. He learned to get by on his own, and soon, saw himself as the protector of his fellow orphans. His visits to the local church, and subsequent attachment to the local legend of Michael the Archangel, his namesake, were the precursor to this. Since The Light, Mikael has been striving to live his life to the fullest. This was a new opportunity for Mikael, and he is not one to squander gifts that are given.

Kael chuckled at listened attentively. Andy's own adventures seem to be as eventful as his, which was not surprising at all. In fact, this whole world was filled with adventures, and all of them were as dangerous as they sounded. It was Kael's first lesson, and one which he would not take for granted. [break][break]
"Ah, yes! I'm just double checking to make sure. I'm somewhat of a worrywart when it comes to these things." Kael apologized, after making sure he had everything in order. "You can't be too careful when it comes to these kinds of place, if we're being honest. Outside of town, no matter how close, can become a very dangerous place in a blink of an eye." Kael shuffled about, eyes searching the surroundings for one quick sweep before smiling back.[break][break]
"Let's get this started then!" Kael followed Andy, as he then started regaling the man with his own adventures. "I've done a bit on the side as well! Can you believe that slimes actually exist in this world? Slimes! Now thinking about it, do you think you can cook slimes?" Kael asked seriously, before bursting out laughing, "But of course, slimes might be better as a drink to be fair. A weird drink...but a drink nonetheless." [break][break]
This was a break from the dangerous world they were dropped into, and Kael thoroughly appreciated it.

"That's okay!" Kael did his best friendly smile, "I sometimes forget how wide my frame is, and will bump into people accidentally, especially in University!" That was always his problem, the halls of his University were so tight that he most usually needed to barge through throngs of people. "I have to be careful, so it's certainly my fault!"[break][break]
He looked towards his sign, and found himself chuckling at her words. "You're right, and maybe that's part of the reason why I took this side job." Kael grinned, thinking back to the days where all he worried about during a nice summer day was when the ice cream truck was going to pass by their neighbourhood. Look at where they were at now, and the world that they're living in. What a cruel trick of Fate indeed.[break][break]
At the mention of getting ice cream, Kael perked up. "Yes! Why don't I get you a cone." He shed his uniform in a quick fashion before leading the woman toward the store, which was just behind them. It was not so full, save for some children who were just about done with their ordering. "You look like a waffle cone person. Vanilla, perhaps?" Kael tried to guess her favourite flavour, before turning to the counter and waving at the old man who ran the store. "Employees discount, so get whatever you'd like! My treat!" Kael grinned, already looking forward to his own order: Bubblegum flavour on a waffle cone!

Kael read the sign that said MAXIMUM TOMATO. He had been unsure about it all. He supposed that it was possible for people to own their own "business" in this place. And yet, from what he'd seen, there were NPCs for everything! But then again, why not support players instead of giving points or money to an NPC. Dee Dee, He started, looking towards the line, this is amazing! Kael's smile widened as he looked around. Having a food stand was such a fantastic idea. He had not thought about the fact that, yes, people will want to eat at something that feels like home. Food trucks, anyone?[break][break]

Kael cracked his knuckles as he set himself up to begin his small trek. It had been a few days since he's seen or heard from Andy. Well, at least it's felt like it's been that long. Time moves quite weirdly in this new world of theirs. Kael himself felt like the world was now, more than ever, estranged from the reality that they all knew. What kind of power could have caused this? how does this affect life as they know it moving forward?[break][break]
Shaking his head, he tried to focus on his current agenda: to get to the place and see Andy! He was ready for this get-together, and possibly share what they've learned so far about this world. The place where they chose to meet wasn't too dangerous, at least. Though it was more infested with monsters compared to Safe Zones, he had been told that this specific part of the Hollow Hills were, at the very least, been cleared of monsters. In fact, it was a popular place for people to go if they ever needed a get-away.[break][break]
Cresting over a small hill, Kael found himself waving at the man in question. "Andy!" He shouted, before making his way towards the man. He had made sure he had everything they might need for this trip and had to double-check once more as he neared Andy. "It's good to see you! How's everything been going so far? I'm glad to see you're relatively unharmed." He held out a hand to shake, before looking to get settled.

Kael found himself staring into the sunset that was just starting its descent. It seems that even in this new world of theirs, the sunsets here in Los Angeles were still something to behold. In truth, he had never been to Los Angeles, having been poor and never having enough money to travel. And yet, in this new world, he was able to travel wherever the system has a connection to, which is to say, almost everywhere. It was one of the perks which he truly enjoyed. He could finally see the world![break][break]
Breaking his stare, he turned his attention towards the people around him. He was still homeless, but at least here in Los Angeles, he was safe. A Safe Zone, after all, somewhat guarantees that he wouldn't be jumped by people. They can't fight him, and therefore he could relax a bit. But truly, he was still as alert as ever. He has had some close brushes with weirdos who tried to sell him things that he was sure were scams. There were still some who tried to jump him just as he was leaving the Safe Zone during his stay in Europe. He learned, therefore, to be constantly vigilant of his surroundings.[break][break]
Speaking of vigilance, he found himself smelling something in the air. It smelt...good! He turned his attention behind him, and realized that someone was cooking something, and people were lining up. How odd! There was a food stand here?[break][break]
Without hesitation, Kael moved towards the food stand, only to find a familiar face. "You! Dee Dee!" He exclaimed out loud as he rushed towards the girl and waved enthusiastically. "How's it going? And what's this?" Gesturing to the ensemble around Dee Dee.

Mikael found himself spinning a sign outside of an Ice Cream Shop.

He wasn't sure what got him here. Well, he was. If he were being truly honest, then he would admit that he had been homeless for the past few days. Sleeping on the streets had been horrible. The mice and rats can be very deadly. Even more so, there were quite a number of people who were always looking to take advantage of others in dire circumstances. It was in one of these moments where Kael suddenly found himself being woken up by an elderly man. And here he was now, spinning the sign to the old man's shop as he shouted, "I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!".

Truthfully, he felt that the slogan was bad. It was...morbid, in a way. Yet, the old man promised him food and possible shelter during the cold nights if he worked on promoting his shop. And so here he was, waving his the sign as he did his best to comically advertise the store. Life was tough, and he was sure if couldn't get any worse.[break][break]
Until it did.[break][break]
He was just about to do another twirl when he suddenly bumped into another person. It had been accidental, to be sure. However, his large frame certainly was not the best one to collide with. At least, that was what the children at the orphanage who called him a "tree trunk" had told him. [break][break]
"I'm so sorry!" Kael immediately cried out, holding out a had, worry etched on his face, "Here, let me help you up!" He tried to flash his best smile, hoping the person wasn't hurt at all!

Kael paused a moment, "I'm not much of a gambler myself, but it certainly can be worth the shot! I might try to get one, perhaps after I level up? Perhaps they had not been chosen by the System to load in yet? He had missed them sorely, especially the priest and the children whom he spent a lot of his free time with. Lifting himself up, he realized that the man was close. Kael was lying on top of a roof, having scaled through the fire escape. He stretched himself before quickly setting off to his friend's location.[break][break]
Kael had not even arrived a few seconds before his face lifted with joy at seeing his friend, "Andy! It's so good to see you! How've you been?" He reached over to give the man a handshake, "Oh! The tutorial we did gave me some stuff that I feel like you'd appreciate. Why don't I pass it on to you? Kael was just about to reach into his inventory, when he spotted another person with them. "And who might you be, young lady?" The man happily waved at Jeanne, his eyes bright as he wondered if Andy was related to this young girl. His little sister, perhaps?

And slowly by surely, he found his aches ebbing away slowly but surely. He wasn't sure what was happening, but it certainly felt like he was being healed. He shot a quick glance at Dee Dee, before giving his an eye smile. Of course it was her, who else could it be! The woman certainly had a lot of surprises under her sleeves, to be sure! [break][break] The hammer hit that he saw from his peripheral vision gave him all the courage he needed. Without even thinking too much, he pushed the giant slime backwards, providing himself a small space with which he can spare himself a moment to ready up. Knees bent forward, he rushed forward with a small momentum, his fist impacting the slime for one final time. [break][break] The giant slime fed backwards slowly, before capitulating to gravity as it wobbled down onto the staircase in which it came through. Even before hitting the lower floor, it would disappear into nothingness.[break][break] "That was amazing! Your repertoire seems to be very diverse, Dee Dee!" He was, of course, speaking to not only her ability to use summons, but to also have healing skills. "I didn't think we'd see such a large slime though. Is that normal?"
