He turned towards the rest of the caravan, the ones who had been watching and cowering, and could only smile. Of course, they wouldn't try and help him. None of them can. Their classes were not combat-based, and therefore they had little to offer. Mikael didn't blame them for that. [break][break] He spat blood out, before looking towards the horizon. "Almost there. We should get going. This fight took longer than expected, but we should make it to the village before dark." The sun was almost setting, and Mikael's estimate was that they had about four hours before darkness enveloped them. [break][break] The trip to the village itself was good. Quiet and steady, they made it past the village's sign posts, with a two-man guard at the hastily erected gate and palisade. [break][break] After he got his reward, Mikael turned forward, eyes scanning the horizon. [break] |

Mikael sighed in relief when the Stonk had finally died. He landed on his backside, before leaning back. He could feel the pressure ebbing away form his body, though now it was going to be his muscles which were going to protest. He could see it now. By this time tomorrow, he would not be able to properly walk or do anything for at least three days. Unless he encounters a healer class person, that is.

At the mention of a meal, Mikael perked up. "A meal? OF course!" He grinned at Andy, but then was stopped in his meal celebration when Dee Dee spoke up. Perhaps there was a reason to keep it alive, he supposed. After all, the creature might be docile under the tutelage of Dee Dee.

Speaking of, he glanced around and realized that the shelves were being populated again.

"I'm glad we got that over with. But...don't mind me, I'm just going to take a nap right here." Mikael sighed as he flopped onto the floor in earnest. Oh, not moving just felt so good.

Mikael's sword was not something to be taken lightly, and now at his level, he could certainly more than back up his form now. He used to be clumsier, but now, he was more like a tree trunk than anything. A wall built to withstand the winds. But where was the meaning in that? [break][break] The goblin made to strike him. Mikael fought head-on. That was how his class was supposed to work, after all. He took the goblin's hit on his shield, before shoving the goblin backwards. Mikael took this opportunity to pivot forward, before shoving his sword into the goblin. [break][break] The goblin shrieked as it side-stepped the attack, before attacking back, as though countering. Mikael cursed under his breath, before having to take the hit straight on. The hit was strong, but not strong enough to pierce through his defensive capabilities. [break][break] Mikael took the opportunity to get into the goblin's zome, before giving him a strong punch to the face, sending it backwards. Mikael grunted as he steadied himself. It was not over yet, not by a long shot. [break] |

He held his sword aloft, ready to strike down whatever it is that was hiding behind those bushed. His eyes narrowed as he slowly made his way forward. Shield hefted and ready, he got closer and closer, before being close enough to part the shrubbery with his weapon. [break][break] "A rabbit." He said to himself, as the bunny hopped away from its grazing ground. He turned his attention back to the group, before he spotted something else. He started to make his move, running towards the group while looking towards the upper branches of the trees surrounding them. [break][break] He jumped, striking the first one as it was about to jump down. Mikael met him in the middle, stabbing it through as the caravan cried out. "A pair of goblins!" Mikael shouted, taking a spear to his shield as the second goblin swung down from the lower branches to attack him. [break][break] Two versus one. Not bad odds, especially since these two goblins looked frail. Young ones, perhaps, out to seek their fortune. He turned his attention to the second one, the first was tending to its bleeding side. It snapped back at Mikael, who deflected the blow and smacked it with his shield arm. It was to be a duel, then. [break] |

At least, that was how Mikael felt as he got up from his chosen spot and hefted his sword and shield to bear. In truth, he was not ready. Oh, of course, he was ready for battle. But for everything else? Not so much. There were too many questions that were still left unanswered. Too many things he was busy thinking about when it comes to his future. [break][break] Alright, let's get going." Mikael nodded as he led the small company of merchants. They were all ready to get to their destination. Close enough to the city, but far enough to not be caught in the growing crowd around the area. Paris was still the City of Love, and the City of Too Many Tourists. A lot of the locals wanted their peace and quiet. Mikael wondered if he should look for the same in his life. [break][break] Their slow march had everyone on edge. The rumour of bandits and other types of mobs were becoming more real every single step of the way for the small caravan. In truth, Mikael was also becoming more vigilant. With every step and every whisper accounted for, he kept his eyes and ears open for any sign of trouble. [break][break] It was an hour into their small march that Mikael held up his hand. The small caravan stopped as Mikael looked forward. He could see small movements in between the trees. It could be an animal, yes, or something worse. "Stay back." Mikael heard the cheer from Andy, and gave him a thumbs up. The problem was, he took his attention away from the Stonk. The bigger problem was the fact that he got squished.

The Stonk had rolled into and over him, making him fall flat on his back. It was well and good that his Core activated, his unshielded self was not hurt too badly because of the damage mitigation. The problem was that the Stonk was coming back. Mikael Lifted his sword just as it rolled over him, and then following it up with a punch. "Take this! Argh!" He yelled both in aggression and pain as the Stonk rolled over him once more. "God, that hurts!"

Then, just as he thought he was going to be in pain for a long bit, a spell hit him which caused the pain to ebb away. He looked towards the source, and smiled at Dee Dee. He gave the woman a thumbs up and a nod in thanks, before getting back up on his feet. No more mistakes. He lifted his shield and got himself ready for one last time, if the Stonk was still alive, at least.

Even then, he kepts his eyes sharp. This was his task, after all, and he was not one to fail such a task. He hefted his shield as he did so, looking left and right for any sign of movement besides their own. [break][break] "I suppose there won't be too much activity this close to the city." Mikael acknowledged when one of the caravan's members asked if they expected trouble this close to Paris. Any and all monsters seem to learn quickly that they should not hang around too close to any large cities. The amount of adventurers in the vicinity made them victims, rather than threats. [break][break] it wasn't before long that they took a small break. Mikael took it upon himself to set-up the fire which they would use to cook up a quick stew for the crew. They had a short way to go, and this was to be their first and only meal before they made the rest of the trek. It was a good decision to do so close to the city, after all. [break][break] Mikael heard a great deal from these people, learned a great deal from their simple lives, and yearned for that simplicity himself. Was it truly awful to want to live a simple and ordinary life? Perhaps he wanted to find someone to love? Start a family? Could he do that now, with how dangerous his life was, especially as a tank? It made him ponder on his life decisions, and next course of action. [break] |

Well, what remains to be a gateway which once marked the entrance to Paris. It was erected during the re-opening of the city, and Mikael knew that it was supposed to be a marker of a new dawn, a new age. And yet Mikael himself felt old, older still now. Weary, even. [break][break] Was this to be his last mission? He felt so in his mind, in his heart. The dreadful thought of settling down, at least for now. [break][break] He shook his head, instead focusing forward. He was met by a caravan, small that it is, waiting patiently for him. Mikael smiled at them tiredly, before greeting them. "Good morning! I hope we're all ready. I'll be your escort today." They all nodded and returned his smile, before they started off. From what Mikael knew, he was up against some goblins, lesser in number now than before, but still formidable for merchants like these folks. [break] |

Mikael watched as the Stonkiest of the Stonks seemed to come after them now. Perhaps they have finally done enough to get to the root of this problem once and for all. And if Mikael was being honest, he was looking forward to their ordeal being over.

When the Stonk started to suck them in, Mikael found himself unable to fight the pull. And so, instead of trying to fight it at all, he let himself be sucked in. He kept his shield up, and his sword aloft, as he was slowly but surely led towards the maw of the Stonk.

Instead of taking damage, however, Mikael shook it off using his core ability. Instead, Mikael lunged inward, stabbing into the mouth of the Stonk, hopefully dealing direct damage. He could see everyone else doing their best to be kept from getting sucked in, and nodded. This was his calling, after all. A tank that takes the front.

"How do you like this?" Following up his sword attack, he lunged forward, raising his fist to punch the creature on its chin, hopefully closing up the creature's maw and stopping this vacuum effect.

Mikael turned his attention to one of the creatures, one that had started to charge towards his general direction. He was not one to shy from danger. Far from it, he knew his class was made to be in the thick of it all. And yet, it seems that this fight isn't one of the most organized ones he had been a part of. Instead of acting as a tank, he was fighting on his own, which threw him off.

The Stonk stopped it its tracks, before seemingly dodging left and right, keeping itself half hidden with the various boxes and other crates littered around the warehouse. Mikael, however, was distracted by Arcana's actions. His teammate seemingly flew towards the Stonk he had been keeping track of, and hit it straight on.

Using this distraction, Mikael ran up as well. Sword in hand, Mikael stabbed the Stonk straight through. He then followed it up with a punch, and then a kick, sending it away and making it vanish. "That was good work!" He complimented Arcana, before lifting his shield up once more, facing forward in an effort to prepare himself for a possible next wave of Stonks.

Mikael took a step back after the fight. It seems that everyone else was able to finish their own battles. Mikael himself felt a small strain to his arm from having to block the attacks sent his way, but then again, it was just like every other day. He held out his hand and flexed his joints. Still good to go.

With the mission complete, he expected something to pop up for them. Perhaps a way to rest? Instead, a new mission was displayed on his system menu.

"Gathering supplies..." He read aloud, before turning to his companions. "I suppose helping in maintaining a base of operation was important. Time to forage for food." Mikael smiled, though it was quickly replaced with a frown when a howling was heard from the distance. And then even more howling.

"Of course it wouldn't be easy, hey?" Mikael shook his head, before turning his attention to the group. "Shall we tackle this together, go out in small groups?" He was sure doing this part individually was no good. Danger lurked everywhere, and he was not one to unnecessarily gamble his life away.

The battle was still on, and just like any sort of battle like this, where multiple people were involved, everything gets a bit more hazy. This meant that Mikael could not even tell you what everybody else was doing, save for those close to him. And the closest one was the woman behind him.

Her comment made him chuckle, "Don't worry, this is what I am meant to do." Taking damage was easy, it was his class' main role. However, it was also a double-edged blade because it hurt like hell. But if it meant taking down these creatures, then he was more than happy to take the heat,

When another set of Stonks came out of nowhere, Mikael immediately brought up his shield. He didn't pause, and quickly lunged towards one of them. The lights, however, that came from the woman he was just conversing with, blinded him for a moment, and so he wasn't so sure if his sword connected. Instead, he turtled back, sword ready to strike if another of these creatures came at him.

Mikael clanged his shield and his sword together, trying to gain the attention of whatever creatures were left. "Over here!" He goaded, though he was sure the loud noise after the explosion would be heard well and true. He raised his shield once more, sword pointed outward in a menacing formation. Perhaps he was able to grab the attention of one or two!

Mikael nodded towards Idir, "All good on this front!" He quickly double checked himself, making sure that he really did not have any injuries whatsoever. He knew for a fact that injuries sustained in combat can sometimes he overlooked. The adrenaline, while slowly fading, was still in his system, after all. HE patted his chest and arms, making sure that he sustained no deep cuts or bruises. The usual ones were already identified, and was part of his class functions, unfortunately. Better bruised than dead, however.

He slowly took a pelt from everyone's butchering. He wasn't sure if it was a good quality or not, though the gears sticking out of it made it just slightly bit odd. He turned it over once, and then one more time, making sure it was done well, before slowly taking his leave.

The neat thing about the system was the fact that it made things a bit easier. The mission should be complete, and so the rewards will be provided. The question for him now was his next destination. Where was he to go?

In the end, Mikael sought to find some shelter, and strategize his next few days. He knew that he was getting to a point where he would reach his ceiling. Perhaps it was time to figure out his future plans, especially when provided with a chance to choose his subclass.
