"Uhh, you good Val?" Rory didn't spook easily yes he did, but it wouldn't be an over-exaggeration to say that seeing his party member's head slump down as they walked was concerning. The man's mutterings seemed to name a place... if he was meant to be a scout, Rory wondered if that was somehow one of his abilities- though he had no idea exactly WHAT he was actually doing. "Lower east Manhattan, huh? Okay okay, I think we can work with that! Er, even IF Manhattan is barely recognizable..." Rory stepped over a massive, bulking vine that had sprouted up through the concrete as he spoke, adding even more emphasis to his words. He was sure they'd be able to find their way at least- "Lower-East Manhattan was a lot easier to spot than something like a specific street or building! Though Val was still confusing, he at least seemed to be conscious and aware of things still. He asked Aliyah about her class, where Rory learned that she was a Bird Tamer of all things. "Ohh, a bird tamer? Find any cool ones yet?" Images of fantasy birds flooded the mans head, from terrifying thunderbirds to the majestic phoenixes. He hadn't seen either in this new world they lived in, but considering all the OTHER stuff around, he wouldn't be surprised either if that was exactly what she had up her sleeve. "Oh, me? Y-yeah my [Chaos Roller] is a support class, though its kinda random." Rory rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment as he spoke. "If you noticed the Luck debuff, that's- WAOH!" Another root from the ground caught on Rory's foot, tripping him mid-sentence. He stood again and brushed off his coat. "...err, that's why...""A scout, support, tamer, and healer then. Not bad! And hey, if anything I'd say that's a pretty good mix-up for finding people!" With a scout that could... read dreams? And tamer with eyes in the skies, Rory was sure it wouldn't take them long to find any survivors out here. If anything, he kinda felt like the odd one out; at least Alana could heal people if they were hurt! Dispite this, however, Rory felt a grin creep across his face. If they were all busy with other tasks, then that meant... "Ohoho! Thanks to one of Tali's items, the big brute of a fishman was bound, trapped inside of a bubble. They wouldn't have to worry about it for a minute, and could instead focus on that pesky water mage and the assassin forsaken. As Rory scattered back toward her to play defense with Noelle, he noticed her twirl her umbrella. It displayed a rocky landscape, one with a terrifying duststorm spiraling through the a dark desert. The man felt a certain dread start to come over him as his stats shift towards a higher DEF and he looked away, but more importantly... everything around him LOOKED like a desert now. The rain had turned to dust, their boat was sailing across a vast sandy sea instead of that drab ocean, and puddles on the ground now looked like dustswept piles of dirt. Any doubt in Rory's mind was instantly dispelled from the beautiful sight of it all. All the water... WAS GONE! "Oh Noelle," Rory flicked a dusty tear from his eye, turning to face a large, incoming water attack from the blue forsaken mage. Mist formed up around their feet as Rory raised his hand up toward the incoming attack. "YOU'VE JUST ABOUT MADE MY DAY!" His giant wheel still floated above them as the water bubble skidded to a stop RIGHT as it tapped into his hand. "Without the ocean, you're NOTHING!" He pushed his hand forward, slapping the bubble back toward the mage with gusto as the roulette spun above. When the bubble crashed back into the mage, the force pushed it back to the ground, with the splash blasting out around it like a mortal shell of water to hurt some of the forsaken around it too. Whatever illusion Noelle had placed Rory under made the water quickly evaporate in his eyes (even though the entire area remained just as wet). The monster stumbled to stand back up again, but Rory held both his arms out to the side as he yelled to it. "And finally... the ACE OF SPADES!" He flicked his wrist forward as new cards were drawn. The first of them was one of his more powerful suits, and as it sliced into the dark pearl on the monster's chest, it fell defeated. "BUT DON'T THINK THAT'S IT FOR THE REST OF YOU, YOU HEAR ME?!" Rory's absolute disdain for water was solved with Noelle's help, and with that out of the way he felt much more level-headed. If he could fight without threat of getting soaked, then he could fight without fear. One by one, Rory flicked out three more cards at the various remaining forsaken on the boat. The big moss-covered fishdude wasn't a threat for now, so he could focus on widdling away at the little guys. "C'MON, SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT!" Rory tossed his pink umbrella to Noelle with a wink as he continued to shout at the monsters, trying endlessly to goad them on. He glanced over his shoulder in case the dark assassin forsaken appeared again, but for now it seemed to be bidding its time. He nodded his head at its lack of appearance; it was something he'd rather have them fight once the trash mobs had all been dealt with so that Tali could use his DPS in conjunction with the other's support at maximum capacity. With Vanilla's willingness to buff other's weapons, Rory nodded again in excitement. That must've been one of her [Enchanter] abilities... ”EEEK, VENOM?!” Rory was taken aback by Noelle’s warning. The concept of these creatures being so dangerous that they might possess venom was terrifying! Getting sick was the worst; he was an American after all, doctor visits meant losing money![break][break]
”We can’t have that, now can we!” Rory clapped his hands together, a series of cards floating out from between them as he pulled them apart. He flung his arms out towards all the enemies around them, sending a card from every suit to attack 4 of the 5 spiders. Most of them seemed attracted to Evey, possibly spurred on by the flare she had shot off.[break][break]
With Evey’s warning, Rory danced around any bits of falling flare that came his way. He was already familiar with abilities that were detrimental to teammates (after all, half of his own could end up hurting the team!), so he wasn’t trying to figure out what would happen if it hit him. [break][break]
”Good job team, I think we-” Rory was ready to congratulate everyone for helping out so effectively, RIGHT WHEN some of the spiders charged Evey to bite her. ”AHH OH NO THINK OF THE HOSPITAL BILLS!” Rory threw his hands toward the air, summoning a wheel of his own.[break][break]
Evey’s was impressive, but now that he had seen it he understood that they had different types of wheels. Dark energy quickly coalesced into the form of a giant 15-foot Roulette wheel that floated above a wall in front of the group. Right as one of the spiders was about to bite Evey, The wheel spun, flashing when it landed with a simple image of a bite. Instead of biting down on Evey, it was the spider itself that took the damage from the attack, looking around with a bewildered look at how that could have possibly happened.[break][break]
Between Evey’s, uh, fursuit, and DeeDee and her monsters, the health of these spiders seemed to be rapidly declining. Rory wiped his head with an audible PHEW as he relaxed a little–only slightly–and glanced at Noelle. [break][break]

"Oh yeah, I LOVE IT! Luck is not on my side today..." Chaos Roller was a neat class and all, but man, his core really was a detriment to the team sometimes. At least it was thematic, because it really was up to the chance of a coin flip whether it ever helped them or hurt them. "And now everything's all wet, ugh..."Rory crouched down with his hands in his face. He glanced up as the blue forsaken approached. "Huh?" The monster lifted its arms, summoning geysers of water on the boat around it. Rory stayed crouch but lifted one hand up into the air to *Snap!* As he did so, a massive 15-foot roulette wheel made of dark energy formed in the air above the group. The blue forsaken then reared its head back before spitting out a massive ball of water near the group, but instead of it hitting any of them, the attack was drawn up towards the wheel. The wheel spun as the blast hit it, before finally settling and blasting the water back at the forsaken. "HEY! CAN'T YOU SEE IM ALREADY COMPLAINING ABOUT THE WATER?!" Rory stood up again, flicking his wrist as a series of cards suddenly fanned out in his hand. He tossed them forward like a frisbee, sending a Hearts card and a Clubs card to whack into the Blue and Green forsaken respectively. The last of the cards he had hoped to hit the third monster with, though mysteriously he couldn't spot it anymore. Cards began to float around his wrist as the Chaos Roller began to look for the missing monster. His eyes shifted left to right as he searched. "Wait a second, where-" Rory felt the hair on the back of his neck shoot up on ends as he suddenly clutched onto his umbrella with fear. He tried to hop forward, but a slice struck the back of his coat, knocking him down instead. He rolled over, tossing a card at the fishman that had snuck up on him. Now that it was closer, he could see that its scales were actually a deep dark purple, and it had two daggers made of jagged shells in its hands. Now that it had been spotted, the monster hopped back into a puddle and sunk into it. Rory scattered to its feet to try and chase it, but the puddle was... just an empty puddle. "Oh great, of COURSE the fish people just HAD to have WATER POWERS!" Could this day get any worse?! Rory was glad at least to have more capable allies. Tali was bringing some HEAT, and already seemed to have knocked out multiple of the fish. With enough time, Rory might even be able to just keep stalling the monsters out until Tali worked his way around--but hell, with that buff that he used, Rory wouldn't be surprised if it was soon! --- PARTYWIDE -1 LUCK IS ACTIVE STATS/ITEMS/ABILITIES/ETC:

"Oh new tricks huh? I've got a few new cards, but- I hope I don't have to use them." He had no idea how Tali could just stand there and spy into the water like that, but Rory was glad they at least had someone watching out. He put his fingers to his temples as he tried to just not think about the fact that boats were on water, deep water with an unknown depth and who-knows-what lurking within... Or to ignore the rocking of the boat against the waves- UGH HE WASN'T GOOD AT THIS! Rory jumped when another woman spoke up, a smaller girl with glasses "Eek- didn't see you there! And right, that's what IM sayin!" He brushed himself all, straightening his jacket a bit before continuing "Well, as a refresher, I'm Rory; my class is kinda random but I've got some good support things and a nice shield" He made sure to send official party requests to be safe, and both his eyes lit up and a message popped up before him when buffs activated for party synergy. "At least there's something nice
nice for the voyage"Noelle was the one who finally got his mind off the water, his face cheering up in an instant when she mentioned purchasing his umbrella. "Ohoho, a price? I'm SURE we could come up with something..." A wicked grin sprawled across his face as he thought of the money he could make off of it. He gave his umbrella a twirl; as useful as it was, surely he'd be able to get something similar in the future to make up for its loss. Just as he was finally starting to get cozy, monsters attacked. He couldn't tell at first, but a sudden horn and shout from their captain revealed that they had something approaching fast on her radar. "Oh god here we go..." Like clockwork, their ship suddenly rocked violently as though something had collided into it. "WAA!" Rory fell back into the wall of the boat, hurriedly scurrying back to his feet as monsters began climbing over the edge of the deck. All of the monsters seemed to be fish creatures that crawled out from the depths, but the ones that crawled up near Rory still had some unique features about them. The first one was a 12 foot BRUTE of a monster, covered in seaweed. It had a face reminiscent of an anglerfish, with a massive jaw , white eyes on the side of its face, and a glowing lure dangling from its forehead. The second one of the two was a deep, midnight blue, with bioluminescent stripes running along its body. In the center of its chest was a glowing pearl with light swirling around from inside of it. The last of Rory's fishmen hid behind the other two, and was less clear, though it appeared to have a sleek body covered in black scales. "G-guys?!" Rory backed away toward the center of the boat, with his umbrella leveled down in front of him. Rain finally started to dribble against his forehead, much to his dismay. He reached out his hand toward the giant forsaken as a four-sided die appeared over its head. A green aura flashed over the monster's body as the die landed on a 3, granting it a 10% buff to its DEF. Rory's day seemed like it was only gonna keep getting worse as it began to rain. "Oh come onnn!" He was fiddling with the latch to pop open his pretty pink parasol as one of the boats was making its return trip. A person called out to him, one that he hadn't seen in a while but recognized in an instant. "Trouble me? Pffft." He had been into so much trouble. "Good to see you!"When asked if anyone else might be joining, he shrugged and started banging the umbrella against the floor. "I don't know about that, what with weather like this. I know I wouldn't wanna be here…" Ironically, as he was speaking, another person had arrived. Again, this was someone he recognized, though it hadn't been quite so long. Dantalion was all the way back at that tutorial with him and Nyke when things first went to shit. He was strong back then and they were still all new… How much more powerful had he gotten since then? If for nothing else, Rory recognized Noelle for her umbrella. His own finally popped open after fighting with it for so long just as the boat arrived. "Oh! Noelle hi, I'm glad I was wrong. So we all had the same idea here huh? Found that mysterious key? Well, as much as I hate boats, it looks like our ride's here…" Rory took a very shaky step onto their transport, waving to the captain along the way. She'd been traveling back and forth from the island all day so at least it was a trustworthy crew- though just the thought of something going amiss at sea annoyed Rory even more. "WHAT? OH COMEEE ONN!" This was not a good day, not a good day at all. Rory had been so hopeful when that [Mysterious Key] had found its way into his hands "YESS!" he had thought, "WHERE THERE'S A KEY THERE MUST BE MORE LOOT!" But oh how woefully mistaken he had been. The key did in fact lead him to a mission, but it was his least favorite kind of mission at all. One he had near sworn to never take part on, one that took place in the worst of possible places-- "WHY'S IT GOTTA BE ON AN ISLAND!" The Chaos Roller buttoned up and unrolled the sleeves of his [Cocoon Coat] as he shivered on the pier. A seagull called from overhead, causing him to shudder from the dread. He looked out to the sea ahead of him as he felt his stomach drop inside of him, a face of pure disgust drawn across his face with tears in his eyes. "Of all the places it could've been... it's so chilly... and the SAND gets everywhere! OH GOD WHY!" Rory felt his [Coin of Fickle Fate] burning a hole in his pocket as he watched a boat take off towards the island. Reluctantly, he pulled it out and tossed it in the air. This mission was going to be horrible, he could already tell... The coin spun and spun before finally landing on his hand. He covered his face with one hand and peeked out from between his fingers only to find- "NOOOO!" OF COURSE IT WAS BAD LUCK, BUT HE DIDN'T NEED TO FLIP A COIN TO KNOW THAT! The man crouched down, slapping his cheeks a few times to try and give himself the motivation he needed to to progress through this mission. ”You know him too?!” Rory was caught off-guard again by the fact that Evey ALSO knew Nyke, but then again… small world. If this new world had taught Rory ANYTHING it was just how small and interconnected things really were. He had met Nyke back in the “Tutorial” when things first went to shit, and over time just kept running into him to build up that friendship they now had. It looked like Nyke had been running into a lot of other people too! [break][break]
The last of their group was an Echo Fabricator named Noelle, a woman with the ability to debuff. ”Sounds like a party! I think we’ll make it through just fine if we cover each other’s backs,” Rory realized that the power the group could output was potentially a little lacking, butttt he wasn’t too worried about it. After all, they all had extra luck! Besides, with the amount of support they had, it was basically just a [Stall] party–nice and cheesy! [break][break]
As the pop-up appeared from DeeDee, Rory accepted and sent a request out to the others as well. Ahh.. if they were grouped here, might as well at least. It didn’t hurt to know people, and making connections was a great way to get a guild up and running. Nyke was great at knowing all the gamer terms that made this world what it was, and they made a pretty good group together. Talks of making a guild together had gotten Rory pretty excited, for the friendship, sure, but also… ”Heheheh, I can’t wait for all the goodies!” [break][break]

With everyone having assumed their own little formation and seemingly ready to move on, Rory pressed on through the door. On the other side he was surprised to find an outdoors area. It was completely encased by more buildings on all sides. It seemed like this had been a little rest area for whatever had previously been in that office building, but now it was completely overrun with nature. Plants burst through concrete, cracks along all the walls leading up to entirely exposed interiors, even the “roof” of this area was partially blocked out by leaves and old cobwebs. [break][break]
”Well, not what I expected. No monsters yet at least! Maybe we-” Rory had a tendency to speak too soon, and this was no exception. With the group now vulnerable in this area, a small swarm of enemies crawled out from the shadows to attack. black spiders the size of dogs were now headed right for the group. Rory stood listening with his finger to his chin as everyone began sharing. His eyes ran over the paper that DeeDee, the quiet one wrote after he accepted the tomato from her. ”T-tomato? Uh, thanks.” He wasn’t too sure what was up with that, but hey, free snack. He tucked it away into his pocket as he thought about this quest info.[break][break]
Once the others began sharing info and eyes turned to him, Rory spoke. ”Hey, I’m Rory. I’m, uh, also a support. And also can boost speed… and also… can summon a wheel… sorry have we met?” Rory glanced at the tanuki woman with a look of “huh how about that” written on his face. Meeting other supports was a little rare, so maybe it wasn’t a surprise they could do such similar things. ”Man, I know Nyke sure would get a kick outta this.” He spoke to himself before continuing to the others.[break][break]
”From this uh, essay that DeeDee here wrote for us, it looks like we’ll be fighting some themed monsters here. I’ve seen a lot of different kind of monsters around here, so I don’t really know what it’ll be.” Rory hadn’t been in New York for long, but already he had found a much greater variety of monsters than he had seen in other “Zones” around the US. His eyes flashed with a light as his passive activated, showing him the buffs affecting each of them. Evey was the same level he was, but the other two didn’t seem to have much experience yet. He smiled a bit, ”It's probably for the best we’re supports actually, it’ll certainly make this easier. If you haven’t noticed, we all got a buff for being in a party, on top of the LUCK boost everyone got from my Coin.”[break][break]
Rory rubbed the back of his head thinking about that; they really lucked out with the coin, it could’ve also given them bad luck and made things so much harder. ”To be a bit more precise, my class has a lot of random elements built into it, but I’ll be sure to save those for the enemies from here on. Taking his pretty pink umbrella, the man pointed it to a side wall. Where previously they were trapped, a door was now available. ”Once everyone’s ready, I can lead. "Phew, that rain's such a pain!" Water droplets flicked away from Rory's pink umbrella as he closed and shook it off. Wandering New York in search of treasure was fun, but he REALLY didn't appreciate how much rain it had! Thankfully his parasol could work in a pinch to save him from the downpour. It didn't give TOO much protection, but it had been enough for the man to stumble his way into some old office building. [break][break]
After shaking his umbrella off, Rory glanced up to see three others; his face instantly went blush in embarrassment. "Uhhh… pardon the intrusion?"[break][break]
It only took a moment longer for a pop-up to appear from the system, much to Rory's despair. "WAIT, party complete… OH NO, DID I STUMBLE INTO A QUESTLINE?!" Instantly the man turned to leave back through the door he came in from, only to find it gone. "NOOO!!! I'M NOT READY, I WAS JUST LOOKING FOR LOOT- wait quests give loot"[break][break]
Just as quickly as the man had tried to leave, he turned around once more, facing the group with a devilish grin on his face. His lucky coin found its way onto his thumb where he flicked it into the air.[break][break]
"Alright team, who's ready for a mission! Let's knock this quest out!" As the coin landed on his hand, a brief golden glow would flash over the group, giving everyone +1 to their Luck.[break][break]

With the group all here, the Guild’s coordinators arrived and gave them the rundown. Manhattan was their goal… Rory had been there before, but not since the world changed. The way it was being described made it sound like it was gonna be a much more LITERAL concrete jungle than what it had been before. [break][break]
Alana, one of the women from the league, was also tagging along with the group. ”Oh awesome, I’m sure that’ll help if any of us get banged up out there, but more importantly… we don’t know what condition people will be in out there. I’m glad we have you!” Rory felt pretty comfortable that he would be okay, but, assuming she was some kind of healer, that was something that would DEFINITELY come in handy for rescuing people stranded out in the city.[break][break]

”Wow, this is kinda fancy, actually!” [break][break]
It had been a long time since Rory had been to New York, but and thought it had been changed drastically just like the rest of the world, they seemed to be doing pretty well here. Little guilds had even formed for people to help each other out and organize missions, and Rory found his way into one for a quest.[break][break]
With his long coat and its constant aroma draped over his shoulders, Rory had the light smell of booze on him. Thankfully, the little pink parasol he had bound across his waist counter-acted that with its smell of strawberries. He really hated the coat's scent, but it was just too good of an item to not use! [break][break]
This particular building he found his way into was set up with the premise of helping to find lost civilians, something that Rory thought was right up his alley. There were a couple other people here too, and with the help of a small group he thought this wouldn’t be an issue at all.[break][break]
”Oh sorry, I’m Rory! I’m uh, assuming you guys are also here to help look for survivors, right? Want to form a party?” As he spoke, Rory toiled with his shining rainbow coin in his fingers, finally tossing it into the air to let it spin before catching it on the back of his other hand.[break][break]
”Also… sorry if this goes wrong, but it’s ability will activate either way if I don’t use it. Cross your fingers!” Rory’s face distorted into a worried look as he yanked his hand away and turned his head. He covered his eyes as the coin sat on the back of his hand, bringing it up to his face to finally take a peak at what the result was. [break][break]
”NOOO!!!” A TAILS? REALLY? THIS THING COULD BE SO ANNOYING! ”Aw well, could’ve been worse, just, uh, sorry for the bad luck…” Rory turned and rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. Woops… [break][break]

”Man, they really don’t wanna make it easy for us, do they?!” Rory hated risking a glance back, but doing so proved that it wasn’t just the bird woman chasing them- the ogre was still on their tail too, even if slowed from the lake! Damnit![break][break]
As the group took cover under the trees, Nyke had the idea to lead them towards some denser wood. Rory liked this, and even if it took a second longer, it would likely be easier for him and Dantalion to keep up. They really didn’t need to keep sprinting full force with the condition they were in.[break][break]
”The bird caught us off guard, but the objective is still the same, right? We really just need to find a way out of here.” Rory rubbed the back of his head due to the gloom of the situation. ”Or well, beat the ogre… I like our chances more trying to escape”[break][break]
Moving through the thicker wood, Rory used his same strategy as before, throwing a shield of darkness up to try and block the specific route they were taking from the bird- Only this time, it slung a feather his way, whistling through the trees and colliding RIGHT into his shield to shatter it. ”EEK, more tree cover definitely seems like the right idea! Maybe we can still make it to the so-called exit this way?”[break][break]

”What the hell, another one?! But we’re so close!” [break][break]
Rory was helping Tali across the pond along with Nyke when another enemy appeared. He thought it was a giant bird at first, but as it swooped down he could see that it was actually some kind of hybrid, a mix of bird and woman. [break][break]
Nyke seemed to be its target, but hiding under the water served him well enough to keep the monster off his back. As it returned to the air, Rory stretched a hand towards it, once again activating that so-called “Core” of his class. [break][break]
A spectral die rolled itself above the creature’s head, landing on a 2. Rory heaved a sigh of relief as his eyes read the debuff that now afflicted it: a 10% decrease to speed. It wasn’t the highest number in the world, but in a situation like this, he’d take whatever he could get! [break][break]
With Tali using his horse to attack the Ogre they left behind, Rory didn’t think they could use it again to escape from the new monster, but Nyke’s idea of escaping through the woods seemed like a great one. If it couldn’t see or fly at them so easily, maybe they really could get out of here! [break][break]
”You think we can lose it? Maybe this’ll help” [break][break]As they moved under tree cover, Rory reached behind him to summon that dark, swirling shield of dice once more. [break][break]
it was definitely his most used skill so far, but for a valid reason: Its versatility was near endless! Unlike before when he had used it to block attacks or flip the Ogre’s buff, this time he spread the shield as big and large as he could muster, spreading the energy in a veil beyond the tree to hide them from the bird-woman above. [break][break]
