That’s not the color I needed. He muttered to himself as he scribbled away at the pad. He sighed as tried to blend in another color to find a decent mix of the two. These pencils could be any color he imagined and still, he fucked him. He was close to just ripping ou the page and starting over when a familiar silky voice caught his ear. Emir? He looked up to see the shadow man standing before him. “Oh, Emir! You’re here too?” He put his book down and stood up to embrace the man in a hug.

The treetops provided so many pockets of shadows that a man with Emir’s talents would surely take advantage of. “I’ve been hanging out near the beach. ”Sun is already starting to set? Dang, I better find a house or something out here for the night.” Nikolas had been following a small stream throughout the knoll hills of the Countryside. While he had been rather lucky not to cross paths with too many monsters, he was still wary that once night fell, something would come looking for easy prey. He had been slowly getting acclimated to this world. Thanks to Emir, he had been able to finish a mission recently and that boosted his confidence quite a bit. Still, he was only level seven and really not too strong to be out alone.

As he ventured down the river, Nikolas noticed a seemingly red tint to the water he was passing. Blood? He was hesitant to push forward but found the resolve to do so. Before too long, he noticed that several goblins were laying dead nearby. Maybe another person was using this area as a hunting ground? He gripped his notebook and pressed forward. If anything were to happen, he had Skye’s ability already loaded in and ready. He could slow down enemies and deliver a nice blow thanks to his powerful MAGI stat. He prayed that it was just another person and not some crazy monster. The stream took a bend and there he was, the likely culprit. An average-looking boy with an average-looking dog. Not the sight he was expecting to see but one that made Nikolas’ let out an audible sigh of relief. He approached cautiously but still with a general attitude of positivity. “Umm, hello.” That was all he spoke. He didn’t know what else to say, he was so awkward at times.

While the man was a bit different, at first Nikolas shrugged it off and looked past it now he was starting to become intrigued and a bit nervous. What sort of training did this man go through? The two of them didn’t seem to have too drastic of an age difference. “Who are the Last Bastions? That term really seemed important. It wasn’t just some common name for a group of people. “Ah, yes. I am. My class seems to fit well with my indecisiveness. I’ve gotten pretty lucky these past few weeks thanks to it. I’m still excited to see what will come next with it.”He gave Dant a faint smile before standing up and moving away from the fire and towards the sewer’s opening. A cold air pulled them from within. It was haunting. Almost as if it was calling for the two of them to enter. Nikolas remained firm and unmoving but just stared into the void. “I guess my class is pretty useful when it comes to places like this. Being able to create your own light has a good deal of uses.” He turned back giving a faint smile to Dant. The fire’s light probably cast shadows on his face that might have warped what Dant actually saw. “Well, I think you’re right. We haven’t finished yet but I’m not too worried anymore. I think we’ve got this in the bag.” He started walking forward. He made a flamboyant gesture with his hand causing his small light to radiate and fly forward, crashing into a wall towards the end of the tunnel. It seemed that there wasn’t anything waiting for them at the front but he suspected that once they were inside they might have some company. “Okay, let’s do this. I can take the lead. If things get too crazy, can you use your horse to escape? [attr="class","charactername"] [] Ender’s Island. A place of nightmares. Nikolas had not been here long but had grown rather mystified by this place. It was something out of a movie. With large massive mountains, thick forests, and untamed danger lurking every corner. He had arrived here at a simple level 3 but had over the past week grown at least seven more levels. He liked to think thanks to his luck. He really had been lucky. Both here and the mainland he found items easier and gathered points faster than most in his party. It was a wonder. He was proud of himself though. While he was still a bit timid and preferred others taking the lead for things, he was starting to feel more confident in himself. Nikolas sat on top of a large rock structure overlooking a small gathering of makeshift tents and hovels. The beach was the only safe place here. Monsters couldn’t enter from the sea or the land. It was thin, barren, and almost entirely disappeared come high tide, but it was functional for now. Parties of higher ranked people had entered the jungle as of late to go explore. He had not been given too many chances to do that. At first he tried to brave alone thinking that there had to be another safe zone not too far in. That didn’t go well. He gain a decent amount of experience then but if it wasn’t for Dantalion’s steed skill, he wasn’t sure he could have handled that kind of action. While on his structure, Nikolas sat sketching in his sketchbook. He blindly plucked pencil’s from a small box. Each time he drew the pencil, the color he desired was found in his hand. He was sketching the coastline. He had not really taken much time since escaping the vampires to really sit down and draw. It was relaxing. He fell almost into a trance as he sketched away. Shading here, adding color there. [attr="class","charactername"] [] The sound of hooves causes Nikolas’ attention to snap away from the fleeing monsters and instead back towards Dantalion. The spectral horses appeared as if from the shadows themselves. They stampede towards the fleeing goblins and were able to easily overwhelm them. Nikolas scratched his chin as he watched the skill. His eyes took it all in. You are able to add MIDNIGHT CAVALRY to your holding pool. Would you like to do so?” Nikolas smiled. Of course, he would. He opted for the confirmation and looked the skill screen over. He had not copied any direct offensive skills yet but this one made up for that. It had quite a usefulness to it. “Seems like a good one to have in case you need to escape.” He spoke to himself and not in a tone loud enough to be overheard. He eventually made his way over to Dantalion and the fire that the goblins had been huddled around. Before them was a large unnatural hole that seemed to lead into the sewers and the den of the monsters. “We can rest for a moment. It will take some time for your cooldowns to reset I’m sure.” He found a small seat to rest on and placed his hands towards the fire. He sat so the tunnel was before him and not behind him. He knew that while they might have killed the guards at the front of the sewers. “Seems like your class is pretty good at taking out monsters. Must make it easy to move around by yourself. I’m envious.” He gave him a smile before looking back into the flames. “Can’t say I’m thrilled to be going in deeper but we still haven’t completed the mission. [attr="class","charactername"] [] Nik’s blast was strong enough to cause that goblin to stumble directly into the campfire that they had built. While his bolt might not have been strong enough to do the job, the fire quickly finished up for him. He smirked as started phase two. Still crouching, Nikolas quickly scurried over to another natural barrier and peeked from behind it. He saw Dant going to town. He was able to kill the larger shaman-looking goblin in the rear. Now that two of the group were dead, the remaining goblins seemed to start to panic. Perfect. Nikolas fired off his golden bolt once more, this time striking at the goblin that was trying to scurry back into the tunnel that they were guarding. Again, his blast didn’t seem to completely do the trick but did cause that goblin to stumble and fall. Perhaps, Dant would be able to finish it off or at least kill the remaining goblins. There were less than a handful left out of this bunch but Nikolas knew that within that tunnel there had to be more waiting for them. “We can’t let them alert the others that we’re here! [attr="class","charactername"] [] It worked! It actually worked. Emir was able to use his quick movements to secure the key and Skye seemed to be willing to fight as well. The trio had pulled all their resources together and were able to actually get the key and get the fuck out of this place. Nikolas was too busy to enjoy any sort of victory. His spell was ending and with it, the group’s distraction. The light seemed to have really weakened the vampires, some of which were outright removed entirely. He was blessed that his affinity for abilities seemed to be perfect for dealing against this sort of foe. Emir had gotten the key and Skye was assisting in causing drama. Nikolas eyed Skye as if she had some sort of plan, he wasn’t sure what it was but had to trust her. “You better be on the other side of this gate before it closes!” Was the last thing he said to her before following Emir. As he turned around, he saw the space around Skye warp as the Ammo Witch begin the engagement. What he didn’t expect was that she would immediately turn and follow right after them. Her ability must have been used to hinder or something as the remaining vampires only seemed to half-play give chase. As Nikolas burst onto the black and oily stained colored streets, he was going to group back up with the other two party members but the space around him started to twist and manipulate into something else. He was given a notification that he had passed his tutorial and was now being loaded into the world. He looked like he was exhausted and annoyed by the humans being on his ship. While it took Nikolas a moment to gather his thoughts, he finally started to move. He was bruised and beaten. Worn out by his engagement and quite frankly in need of a nap and possibly some aspirin. Begrudgingly, Nikolas started to make his way off the ship, down a slippery set of wooden stairs. The island itself had a small port. There were a few makeshift homes here but nothing that seemed permanent. Was this the land he would die on or one that he would rise and find true strength? [attr="class","charactername"] [] Numbers rolled for Event (5, 3, & 1) Nikolas pulled himself together and stood up. He was weak, he knew it but he was not helpless. The one artist had found himself thrust into this new and dangerous world. He couldn’t say he enjoyed the new world but he was slowly becoming accustomed to it. He walked over to the fish man. Standing over the beast, he really took in its ugliness. The monster was in and out of consciousness. It would look at him before fading away. What only seemed like a moment felt like minutes. Nikolas made a finger pistol and fired a golden light right at the monster’s head. It didn’t scream, never made any indication it was scared. No, it accepted its fate and took the shot clearly in the head. Nikolas had spent most of his energy. He couldn’t continue to fight even if he wanted to. He stood there, watching the body dissolve and the screen giving him acknowledgment that the monster was dead. “Good riddance” He said before hoveling over to a nearby crate. It seemed most of the other survivors were done fighting as well. While the Foresaken might have caught them off guard, they did not completely overwhelm them. It seemed that there were a few capable fighters on this ship after all. Nikolas looked onward and saw that they were nearing the island. Was this just the start of the nightmares he could expect here? Ender’s Island, what is your true purpose?

[attr="class","charactername"] [] Numbers rolled for Event (5, 3, & 1) As the pair rolled around trying to punch and kick each other, Nikolas fired off a shot at the monster square in the chest. Instantly, its body broke apart and become nothing more than some pixels. He was breathing heavily and soaking wet now. He lay there for a moment before the grunts and moans of the last living one was starting to stir. Nikolas rolled over to see that the monster was staggering back to its feet and starting to glare right at the light user. “Fuck” He gripped his side and tried to roll over to get back on his feet. Without giving him a chance to stand, the monster slammed its foot right into Nikolas’ side causing the boy to tumble over and over until he crashed into the railing. Thank god it held and didn’t shatter. He’d rather die by the fist of a monster than drown in the sea. Nikolas was moaning and trying to gather his wits. As he lay there the monster took a stance. It brought its head back and readied itself. It let forth a blast of water right at Nikolas but the light mage was ready. In one of his hands, the mirror opened up and took on the brunt of the blast. Giving no reprieve, the water jetted back out and slammed right into the monster’s belly. While it still wasn’t dead, it was knocked back to the ground, once again having the wind knocked from it.

While Nikolas had dealt several blows to it, the monster seemed to keep going. Nikolas was able to slip away once but it would take a while before he was able to use that ability again. His tentacles also were on a cooldown. The only thing that he had to his advantage was that his Veneration ability finally kicked in. He dumped the points directly into his [PWR] and immediately fired off the blast at the big one. While it did not kill him, still, it did seem to force the beast to his knees. As it was catching its breath, Nikolas tried to scurry further away but the second one (level 3) was already on top of him. He raised his arms to block the blow and he was successful. While the monster slammed right into him, Nikolas was only pushed back a bit. It hurt but he was alive. He pushed the monster forward, trying to cause it to lose its footing. The pair of them fell to the floor grappling with each other.

[attr="class","charactername"] [] Numbers rolled for Event (5, 3, & 1) As he reemerged from the shadow, Nikolas already was drawing from his core ability again. A blast of light shot at the enemy. While it hit him square in the chest, it still pressed forward. At this point. Nikolas has struck the monster three times now. What else could he do? The Forsaken (level 5) opened his mouth and a blast of water shot for aiming right at Nik. Before the water could strike him, a golden light wrapped around Nik and protected him from the blast. The golden bubble popped and Nik knew that meant he had some time before his shield would be back up and running. “Shit” He backed away from the beast and fished around in his pocket until he pulled out a small mirror. The second of the Foresaken also let out a stream of water, this time, Nik was prepared. He held up his mirror and the water went flying right back at the monster, causing it to stumble backward and slam against the railing. While it was still alive, he did notice that it was moving much slower.
