” A guild leader? Wow, haven’t heard of many of those being around.” He was curious. Guilds were supposedly starting to appear throughout the world. While he had not met anybody formally in a guild, it was something he suspected would change the world. Without governments or militaries, the world had kind of been just hanging together with some shoestrings and ducktape. Maybe with the emergence of these so-called guilds, they might return to some normalcy in life. “What does the guild even do? Are you all raiding zones and farming herbs?” He gave a light chuckle thinking back to his days of playing World of Warcraft. Guilds were mainly good to get loot that you couldn’t normally get. He was just an enchanter for most of the guild and rarely went on pvp raids or anything. In a game like that, it was so limited as to what they could do. Guilds couldn’t take over towns or set up bases. In the real world, he suspected they would act more akin to governments or corporations. Probably some would emerge to be the world’s new players.

The conversation took a bit of a turn with the talks of lovers. Nik’s face grew a bit blushed at Emir’s words. They rang true to the artist as well. Not that he was ever over-sexual but it was nice to have the ability to use an app to find somebody you connected with. Now, everybody you met was walking around with PTSD and that just kills the mood. “I hear you there. An island in the Mediterranean should be a romantic getaway. Not a fight for survival. Too bad, the sunsets on the beach really are breathtaking.” Nikolas gave a wink before the pair entered the thicket of the jungle.

Upon hearing the scream, Nikolas tensed up for a moment. His grip on his sketchbook tightened up as his ears tried their best to extend their range. Emir’s command for Nikolas to stay close was taken to heart. Was it instinct or just a good excuse? Either way, Nik gripped at Emir’s forearm and held it for a moment. “I freaking hate jump-scream-type situations, Emir.”

If Nik was drinking something he would have shot it out of his mouth. How old did Ollie say this place was? Thousands of years old? How is that possible? Nothing that old looked like this. The pyramids were old and still in decent condition but nothing like this. “You sure its that old? Do you think the light came to Earth before all this? Or maybe aliens?” He was a bit concerned. Nik was scared but the only way to go was forward so onward he pressed. “Stick close by, I don’t have any defensive abilities and I’m not the fastest.”

Once the party was inside the hallway the large doors behind them slammed and the torches near the entrance snuffed out. It was okay though, several other torches had burst to life as they moved ahead. No matter how he looked at it, Nikolas couldn’t shake the feeling something bad was going to happen. He slowly walked forward, ensuring the next set of torches would light up. Nik took a step forward and felt the tile beneath him sink in. His heart immediately jumped. A trap? “Ollie-” He was cut off as the sound of clicks and gears churning became rather loud. ” Trap!” Above the pair of men, dozens upon dozens of arrows began to fire downward at the pair.

While Nikolas tried to jump forward and avoid the arrows, he was still caught in the crossfire. Thankfully, his shield of light would appear and begin to absorb that damage. It must not have been too high-end as the shield still remained after the arrows stopped firing. That was a relief. What wasn’t was the fact that something was now moving towards not just Nikolas but also Ollie and his snake. Five of the nearby stone statues had already left their pedestals and were on the ground. Each was different than the next. One had four arms while the other four had just two. Every single one of them had weapons in their hands and shields. One of them seemed to be a magician. Behind him were orbs of flames springing to life. Where in the actual fuck did Earth-chan bring them?

The spider on him splattered into dozens of pieces covering Nikolas in a green slime. AHHHH!! What the fuck is this?!” His rage seemed to surpass his fear or shock and for a moment, Nikolas mustered up an energy within himself that he had never known before. “I’ll show these spiders an area of effect!” A magic circle appeared beneath the light user and several rays of light jolted up. The lights pierced through the spider that was nearest to Nikolas before they started to wiggle around like thrashing snakes. As the lights thrashed about the spiders tried to scurry away but Nikolas wasn’t in a forgiving mood. Now that the whole sewer was easy to see he was able to accurately aim his blast right at the spiders. With the light beams whipping at them and Nikolas using his quick little blast ability, he was able to clear out several of the spiders. It seemed that Dant was more than capable of handling those that were not being swarmed by Nik’s light abilities. Nik would manipulate the magic circle and beams to place them between the two men and the spiders, thus creating a safe zone for them. Some tried to use the ceiling to crawl toward them but the light would whack them away before they got close. “Dantalion, can you pick off the stragglers with your gun?” The spider’s numbers were dwelling quickly but there was still a handful left. Ollie’s explanation of his shop and how he handled the auction was sweet. You could tell that he was genuine. Nikolas’ smile turned a bit sour when it seemed that the whole auction didn’t go to plan for Ollie. He patted him on the back and gave him a friendly and caring look. “That’s very thoughtful of you. The world is full of shit and monsters now so even the seemingly pointless item could be of great use later on. No need to think of it has a failure on your part or that you had anything to do with the lack of interest. People these days are too busy worrying about if the monster under the bed is real. Its harder to catch their attention. Perhaps, when we get out of here I can make some posters or something for you. I was an artist back in the day.” He gave another quick pat and moved forward into the temple.

Once past the large doors, Nikolas gave his eyes a moment to adjust to the dimmer light inside. He was cautious going forward. Having grown up on movies like Indiana Jones, he knew that these sort of places were likely boobytrapped. Having realized that Ollie was allocating his buff from Nikolas’ skill, the man paused in his stride. “I’m always down to party up and do things. I haven’t made too many friends since this whole world went upside down and I can’t find my family either. Its actually what I’ve been trying to do but I got swept up on Ender’s. It’s stated to be in Europe at least, so I’m starting to make my way closer to them.” Nikolas went through his items and quickly equipped the five items that he couldn’t live without so far. His robe, sketchbook, earring, sword, and ring. With all five now equipped he wasn’t too afraid of some old dusty temple.

“Let’s press on whenever you’re ready. I have a feeling this Architect called us both here for a reason. “ His eyes slowly took in the space before them. It was a large hallway with a ceiling that seemed to go on forever. The hallways was dotted with torch holders and small alcoves in the wall where various statues lined. While he could see their shapes, he couldn’t make out any facial expressions or any real details due to the shadows. There was a single torch lit by the door the pair stood in while all the others lining the hall seemed to have been unlit. “Creepy…” He muttered quietly. He took a few more steps forward and the torches on the wall crackled to life. “You get the feeling we’re being watched?” He asked in a hushed tone. While he had definitely become braver these past few months he wasn’t a knight in shining armor. He was still that timid lad deep down in his heart.

He paused just before entering the doors. “Ah, before we continue, it is probably best that we form a party. Here, I’ll send an invite. Once you accept you’ll get a notification about a buff that you can allocate. Your little snake friend should be getting one as well.” He sent over the invite and waited for Ollie to be fully settled before pressing onward.

In fact, he old had enough time to take out some blank pages from his sketchbook and pencils and had starting etching some of the symbols that he could reach. There were a few pages scattered around the ground as the stranger started to approach Nik at the top of the stairs. For being in a mysterious place and in a world where half the stuff wants to kill you Nik was rather relaxed. The voice of the man definitely drew his attention and caused him to scurry in a flurry. “Oop! Sorry, sorry, sorry I wasn’t trying to do anything but sketch the symbols on your place. They were too cool and unique looking…” That’s when the registered what was being asked of him. “Oh, no not a clue. I’ve only been here five maybe ten minutes?” Nik shuffled his papers back into one large chaotic pile and stuffed them into his inventory. [break][break] He stood up and dusted himself off before approaching the man. The star will come crashing down dealing damage equal to your [PWR] stat in damage. The star can only take up to your [DEF] in damage before becoming unusable for the rest of the thread.

He had explored a chunk of it with Emir but he had also started to get brave enough to venture into the thick of it by himself. It was weird, it seemed that no matter which path he took he always found something new and frightening. Though, it wasn’t the island that seemed to plague his mind today. No, that was reserved for the encounter he had just the day before. The Temple of the Architect. That place would forever mark a special part of Nik’s life. He flipped the tome’s blank pages and saw the potential for all the beautiful images that he could create. A smile crossed his face. [break][break] A second awakening. He had gained a subclass. Something that he had only seen a few rumors about. Walking along the sandy shore of the island, Nikolas had wanted to test his new abilities but wanted to ensure that he would not be bothered. The best place was to just get away from the encampments that were starting to spring up. When he had first got here the island only had a few handfuls of players that had reached its shore. Now, more and more are showing up each day. [break][break] ”Oh, I think there is a small cove over there by the looks of it.” On one hand it was seclusive and would be far from others. On the other, there was a chance that the cove was not included in the beach’s Safe Zone status. Monsters might appear. He mulled it over for a moment before continuing his walk. Testing his skill would be best in a Safe Zone. He could only access it a few times and getting into a fight would spell disaster. This far away from the camps should be fine he hoped. “Okay, Forge! The golden words floated in the air for the briefest of moments before they faded away. Where they occupied an ethereal door appeared. Nikolas stepped forward and the door opened. He was met with a warm heat and the sound of a crackling fire. He entered the doorway. It was darker here than out on the beach. It took his eyes a moment to adjust.

The hallway which he found himself was filled with weapons and armors that one might have only dreamed about. He walked down the hallway until he met a woman standing before a large forge. Her voice and appearance seemed to shift with each syllable. A mysterious being indeed.

“Welcome adventure. Place the items you wish to meld on the forge. I will do the rest.”
Nikolas pulled from his inventory the items: [Ravishing Robe] + [Radiant Fabric] + [Light of the Lost World] onto the forge. The robe and earring had become staples in his kit. Having that boost to his magic and the ability to cleanse those negative effects was life changing. That shield that his earring provided was something he would love to have show itself within the robe. He also questioned what the fabric would add to the new item. It had such vivid and unique colors. Always changing yet always beautiful. “Okay, these three items please.” The lady nodded her head and struck at it several times with a hammer. Each blow caused the room to fill with sparks of every color imaginable.

[attr="class","nik2reescroll"] ”Okay, that makes it 26!” Nikolas was beaming. He had just dumped a lot of his points from Ender’s into leveling up. Something that he had not done too often. While he had racked up points, he seemed more inclined to save them for items and other non-essentials than leveling. Probably not the wisest of moves but so far he’s done well for himself. Emir was already so strong and seemed to have some cool items too. If Nikolas wanted to keep having adventures with him, then he needed to step up his game. He glanced over his new ability and stats before closing out of the windows. “Now that I’m level 26 I should be able to handle most of the monsters in the forest by the beach without any problems at all now.”[break][break] Nikolas let out a sigh of relief and looked up at the bright blue sky. The island was massive and a bit scary but for some reason, he loved it here. As he looked up he noticed for some odd reason it seemed to become increasingly dark. Thick clouds of fog started to block out the sun and the space around him. He was on the beach so there shouldn’t be any sort of threat but the hairs on the back of his head seemed to act differently. A small pop-up window appeared before him. [break][break]

[break][break] A hidden zone? How? When? Nikolas took a few steps back as the thick mist wrapped more and more around him. How did he trigger this special zone? He had not moved from his place on the beach. A golden light filled his right hand. He made an arching movement with it causing the light to blast through the vapors and illuminate the black stone structure before him. While he could not make out the entire structure, he could make out the black oily stone that seemed to build the building. Cautiously, Nikolas moved forward up a grand staircase leading up into the building. “Hopefully, this isn’t some trap-filled place.” He wasn’t used to exploring places like this alone and was honestly quite nervous. His experience so far with this world though was there was not much room in running away. You seemed to have to press forward and hope for the best. As he submitted the top of the stairs, he noticed some peculiar symbols along a grand marble landing before a set of massive black and gold doors. Before the doors was a small chat window. Emir’s smile made Nik smile right back. He enjoyed these times with Emir. The two of them seemed to be pretty compatible friends. Who would have guessed after their first encounter? Nikolas was crying and scared and he was taking charge and doing badass shit from the get-go. Nikolas quickly accepted the party invite. The notifications started going off. Emir would get a notification to boost one of his stats, while the pair got their Light and Dark boost. Nikolas smiled and grabbed onto Emir’s arm acting like a damsel in distress. “Oh Mr. Emir. Protect me from the big bad forest.” As he let go he chuckled and gave a light push.

Nikolas was thrown off by Emir brushing his face. It took a moment to process that he had something on it and the man was just trying to help his friend not look like a total buffoon. “Ah, I try not to think too hard about those bloodfuckers.” He knew what he said. “I like to think I’m a bit braver. I haven’t had any near-death experience like that since then though if I’m being truthful. I’ve found that I’m way luckier in this world than I was before all this happened. I’m sure you’ve gotten super strong, just look at your body. It is more toned than it was back then in that cell. I’m sure you could handle a whole horde of vampires if given the chance.” Emir’s back was to Nikolas and the blonde took note of the way his clothes hung on him. He was being truthful, Emir did look more defined physically. He was always attractive but now he looked built. Nikolas didn’t hate this view at all.

“So, tell me Emir. Where have you been these past few weeks? I haven’t seen you since that cow escapade. Have you made any new friends or perhaps lovers?” His tone was playful and inquisitive. He knew his line of questioning was a bit crass but he felt this was something that Emir enjoyed. Playful banter. He wasn’t too worried that the man would take offense to it. At least, he hoped he wouldn’t. The two were nearing the edge of the sandy shore and the dark foliage before them grew larger and larger. It was about to be the real deal. Nikolas wasn’t lying when he said he had felt luckier than ever. He knew walking into this forest that he had the items and tools to help him succeed no matter what was thrown their way.

[attr="class","charactername"] [] He tried to make light of the comment. Clearly, from the way the man phrased things and his overall demeanor, there was quite a seriousness in this group. Nik hadn’t heard the name before but it sounded like one of those right-wing militia groups that sprung up within the last decade or so but to have global reach, that was something almost religious about it. Probably best he left things there and didn’t press for more information. He didn’t want to upset the guy with a reaper scythe sniper rifle that was standing behind him. Instead, Nik pressed forward and pushed his senses beyond what they normally operated at. The pair walked for a few minutes in silence but that was when Nik heard some sort of scratching sound. His brow scrunched as he tried to pinpoint where it was coming from. The darkness before them was too thick, he couldn’t see. Feeling there was no other option, Nik lit up his fingertip and shot forward again to try and shed some light. Big mistake. Nearly directly above the blonde was a large black and blue spider that had to be the size of a golden retriever. It let out a shriek of sorts and dropped from the ceiling crashing right into Nik, forcing him to the ground and wrestling the thing off. Nik let out a scream as he trashed about, the spider snapped its fangs at the boy while its legs flung widely. “Get off me! Get off!” It wasn’t just the one spider, four others crawling around the ceiling started to drop around Nik and Dantalion. Nikolas took a step back as the dog noticed him. While at first, he seemed skeptical of the newcomer, he didn’t lunge to attack or even snarl which made Nikolas feel like he might not have to worry too much. Once he noticed the tail wagging and the more friendly light fill the dog’s eyes he was able to relax. He gave the dog a friendly smile and blinked slowly at it. That was the sign of a kiss for a dog right? Or were those cats that responded to blinks? He couldn’t really recall but it couldn’t hurt.

Nikolas noticed the pause in the man’s behavior after he went in for a hug. Was he being too forward? He thought the two of them were friends at this point. Maybe he was being a bit too touchy-feely? Jeez. He hoped he didn’t make things too awkward between the two of them. His face did light up when he heard that Emir had been doing some super sleuthing. He figured. The man seemed to have a charm about him that just oozed sneaky little devil. “Of course, you have been. I wouldn’t have questioned if you had made it to the interior of the island. We must have gotten here roughly the same time then. Surprised I didn’t see you on my ship, though I can’t say I really took the time to meet many people that were on there.” He thought back on the fish monsters and how big of a pain they were to deal with. At the time, he was only level three, now he was level twenty. After dumping most of his points into leveling, he finally felt a bit more at ease.

Nikolas looked slightly at the jungle beyond the shoreline. It was mysterious and a bit daunting. He was nervous but knew that Emir wasn’t the type to leave him if things got too bad. He could have easily left them all to the whims of the vampires with his unique abilities. But he didn’t. “Sure! I’d love to go deep in there with you. Do you have any places that you’ve been to inside that you think would be best to enter at or does it even matter? Most the scouting parties I saw go in didn’t seem to come back but I think the two of us should be in a good spot. I’ve raised my level and everything. You should be proud.” He made a silly face as he started to descend from the rocky shoreline and towards the soft sand below. “Maybe we will get lucky and discover some treasure or something. That’s what everybody is saying about this place, that is must hold some sort of treasure or wealth.”
