The looming trees cast long shadows that stretched across the grass, reaching for the small pile of goblin corpses stacked on top of one another. Arrows protruded from chests and heads, and bite marks littered arms and legs.
One of the offenders lingered near the corpses, a nose to the ground and a tail in the air. A whistle rang through the trees, and the scruffy dog took off in the direction of the call. The Sapsali slowed as he neared a stream that cut through the woodlands. Crouched by the water was a young man with a wooden bow resting beside him. He washed the goblin grime from his hands before glancing up, a smile on his lips.
"I'll never get used to this. How about you, bud?" His hand dripped as he reached for the dog. An eager snout pushed against his palm until his fingers dipped to scratch beneath the dog's chin.
In truth, Min-su had adapted quickly, but that did not mean the deaths he had witnessed sat well with him. It gnawed at the back of his mind, and the tutorial still haunted his dreams. ”Sun is already starting to set? Dang, I better find a house or something out here for the night.” Nikolas had been following a small stream throughout the knoll hills of the Countryside. While he had been rather lucky not to cross paths with too many monsters, he was still wary that once night fell, something would come looking for easy prey. He had been slowly getting acclimated to this world. Thanks to Emir, he had been able to finish a mission recently and that boosted his confidence quite a bit. Still, he was only level seven and really not too strong to be out alone.

As he ventured down the river, Nikolas noticed a seemingly red tint to the water he was passing. Blood? He was hesitant to push forward but found the resolve to do so. Before too long, he noticed that several goblins were laying dead nearby. Maybe another person was using this area as a hunting ground? He gripped his notebook and pressed forward. If anything were to happen, he had Skye’s ability already loaded in and ready. He could slow down enemies and deliver a nice blow thanks to his powerful MAGI stat. He prayed that it was just another person and not some crazy monster. The stream took a bend and there he was, the likely culprit. An average-looking boy with an average-looking dog. Not the sight he was expecting to see but one that made Nikolas’ let out an audible sigh of relief. He approached cautiously but still with a general attitude of positivity. “Umm, hello.” That was all he spoke. He didn’t know what else to say, he was so awkward at times.

Goblin blood did not wash out easily (or any blood, really). He was too focused on cleaning beneath his nails to notice the approach of a stranger.
But, Pepero did.
The Sapsali took the least convenient route around Min-su by trudging through the stream instead of taking the land route. Ears forward, eyes alert, and body rigid, Pepero stared down the figure that drew closer. His nose twitched. Human.
A hushed oof left him, but it wasn't enough to draw Min-su's attention. What might have seemed like a guard dog ready to bark to alert its master took a sharp turn in the other direction of behavior as the stranger came close enough to speak.
The hello was all that was needed to draw out a whine from the dog, his tail finally wagging. Restless on his paws, Pepero took three steps forward then one step back, another grumbling whine escaping him before he sat down. It would be rude to charge. He should wait for pets, right? Right??
A stark contrast, the sudden voice was enough to make Min-su flinch, eyes wide as his attention snapped to the newcomer. It took only a brief moment to assess that he was being addressed (probably). "A-ah, um-- hello." Min-su dipped his head for a quick bow in greeting.
Shaking the water from his hands (he was satisfied enough with the level of cleanliness he was able to achieve with just stream water), Min-su slowly stood. He left the permanently blood-stained bow on the ground, not wanting to seem threatening (not like he ever could). Nikolas took a step back as the dog noticed him. While at first, he seemed skeptical of the newcomer, he didn’t lunge to attack or even snarl which made Nikolas feel like he might not have to worry too much. Once he noticed the tail wagging and the more friendly light fill the dog’s eyes he was able to relax. He gave the dog a friendly smile and blinked slowly at it. That was the sign of a kiss for a dog right? Or were those cats that responded to blinks? He couldn’t really recall but it couldn’t hurt.

Pepero whined again and turned tail, venting his demands for physical attention by circling behind Min-su, seizing one of his hands in his mouth in the process. Used to such behavior, Min-su remained where he stood and only allowed the dog to pull at his arm without taking his whole body with him.
Dangerous as that was considering Pepero's own boost in physical abilities since awakening.
"No need to apologize. I just, um, haven't seen anyone in this area for a while now." His shoulder drooped as Pepero gave his hand a stronger tug. "I swear he's not always like this. He's just--" another tug and Min-su is forced to shake his hand from the dog's teeth, immediately setting his hand atop Pepero's head to sate the dog's demands. Min-su cleared his throat. "He's just riled up. From- yes, from the goblins."
