Hana reflexively scootched back a step as he approached, but kept the guitar at her side. He didn't seem like a danger...just weird. The name had definitely been a hint. "I'm Hana. Do you, uh...want me to call you Try, or...?"

She tilted her head as he stumbled through his words. "Is this your first mission after the Tutorial?" Hana had definitely been pretty confused herself right after all of that. "You got everything, like...figured out?" She nodded after a few moments, though. "Yeah, let's go. So we can finish and get out of here."

Hana half turned to continue walking the way she'd been headed, trying to give him time to catch up and fall in alongside her. "So...did it give you any special abilities for, like, finding stuff? Or fighting? My plan was to just, you know, grab the first thing I saw and get out."

"Yeah, I know what you mean. My videos were finally getting a lot of views, then..." Hana shrugged sadly. No point telling him about the recording contract, she didn't need to brag. "It let me keep my guitar, and a few other things. And gave me a mic, I guess that's handy."

She exited the convenience store, heading down the lonely small town street. Which was now running right along (and sometimes into) the nearby mountain. "Uh, that sounds like stuff I heard my grandpa talking about once or twice. Sorry." Hana gave an apologetic smile as they headed for the next building that hadn't been entirely absorbed into the rearranged landscape. "I guess that sounds-" She cut off, wincing as he smashed through the window. "...good."

He seemed to be enjoying the adventure, so she wasn't going to stop and ask him why he didn't just try to open the window first. The door to the earlier store had been unlocked when she tried it. But, it wasn't like there was anyone around to care about the damage anyway.

Hana moved in closer, peering inside. Face wrinkling up at the smell. "Eww. I don't know if we should go in there." She stepped back, rummaging in her pack. Extracting a pair of small keychain flashlights she'd liberated from the convenience store. She clicked one on to test it, offering the other to Emir. "...uh, I don't know how your shadow stuff works. Do you need one? Can you use it, uh, safely?"

Hana came to a stop as she heard the notification ping from the system. "Hmm?" It took her a moment to pull it up and read it over, giving Nyke time to make his descent and decide on just the right pose to be noticed in. She froze briefly, before accessing the inventory system, withdrawing something.

Whirling quickly, Hana raised the guitar over her head with both hands wrapped around the neck. "Who are you why are you-" She cut off as soon as she spotted him. "...why would you sneak up on someone like that!?" She shouted out, more irritated than scared, it seemed.

With a huff, she lowered the makeshift weapon after a few moments. "...are you here doing the robot mission too?"

With a smile, Hana completed the party setup on her end. "I was just going to teleport back at the first sign of trouble, but it'll definitely be easier to do that with someone else around. And, you know, explore and everything." She nodded eagerly.

"Work? Um...unless you're a doctor, farmer or cook, about the only other sort of work is bodyguard. Besides doing Earth-chan's quests, I mean." She watched Emir paw through a few more shelves while she spoke, before turning back towards the store's front counter. "Let me see if there's...aha!"

Hana reappeared, holding out several reusable canvas shopping bags. "Here, load up." She had another few held by the handles in her other hand. "The inventory system doesn't seem to like you just cramming everything into it, it's easier to convince it to handle one full bag than a pile of candy." She looked over his new accessories, which definitely seemed to fit his class name and Earth-chan's sense of style.

"Cool outfit Emir. I didn't get any armor or anything..." No weapons, either, not that she would know what to do with them. Hana sighed, before shaking her head and looking cheerful again. "I was hoping to find an electronics store. There's no internet, so you can't just stream music and shows and stuff. I thought somewhere like this, in the middle of nowhere, would be more likely to have, you know...old school physical media."

She hesitated for a moment. "...we could check in houses, too, but..." There were plenty of reasons why she'd want to avoid that, which Emir could probably guess. Hana shook her head, then headed for the door. "There's not much of the town left, so just point out any, uh...doors and windows we can get to. That look like they lead anywere."

Hana walked the street below, or at least what was left of it. Avoiding the edges of massive potholes, skirting past abandoned vehicles. This should be an easy enough mission. Just find some paperwork. Or a computer, or memory card, or something. Anything related to the laboratory specified in the mission details. Thankfully she could pull that back up through the system whenever it became necessary, because she definitely wasn't going to remember all those codewords and numbers.

She was dutifully looking back and forth, keeping an eye out for...well, anything strange. Strange things weren't that strange anymore, or at least more common. Hana wasn't really looking upwards, though, so she walked right past Nyke's perch. Hopefully she could get in, grab enough to satisfy this mad scientist, and get out.

If she ran into anything too unusual or threatening, well...she could always teleport away. Some data wasn't worth getting hurt over, even if she could heal by drinking a potion or whatever now.

Hana was slightly relieved to learn Emir was a normal person under all those shadows. Perhaps a little strangely dressed, but she'd definitely seen more outlandish costumes, both before and after the world went crazy. She couldn't help but blush and glance away for a moment after he explained why he'd obscured himself like that, taking the opportunity to toss her candy wrapper into a small trash bin near the store's front counter.

"Yeah, this place is pretty quiet, you lucked out. I mean, quiet so far..." She shut her mouth before blurting out any possible enemies that could appear from the nearby mountain. Hana didn't want to give Earth-chan any ideas. "Oh, nice to meet you, Emir." She would've offered to shake hands, but his were busy stuffing chips into his mouth. She settled for a polite bow instead.

"Mansion? Hmm, we owned a house here for when we visited, but it wasn't that big..." The house she'd actually considered home wasn't that large, either, but she knew having more than one was still a big deal to most people. "Oh, why'm I here? I was just looking for anything...interesting. Stuff you can't get through the system exchange or Earth-chan's stores." Hana gestured at the shelves around them as an example. The refrigerated shelves lining one wall were still full of sodas and other drinks, but they were all room temperature, and some had gone flat. Not as satisfying as the snacks, but still salvageable.

"You can just fast travel there once you get back to a Safe Zone. That's one of the only cool things about all this." Hana had returned to picking the shelves clean of her favorite snacks, stuffing her bag full. "You'd have to walk back, I think. One of the only perks I picked up lets me just teleport back." She glanced at Emir. "...I can take you, too, if you want. I wanted to explore the rest of the town first, though. Do you know how the party system works yet?"

She poked at the air with one hand, as one of the floating status screens dutifully appeared before her. Just a few taps, and another flickered to life in front of Emir. It clearly stated Hana's full name, class and level, along with her request for him to join her party.

Hana would've sworn she'd seen someone, just for a moment. She'd definitely heard someone. After a few blinks, she leaned back around the corner, checking other directions for the source of the voice. Before it piped up again.

Head popping into view once more, she squinted, managing to make out the shadowy form. A few weeks ago, this would've been terrifying. But now, this wasn't even the first shadowy creature she'd seen. Or the first human she'd met that seemed to be made out of something other than flesh and bone.

"Um...are you always like that now, or...?" Hana pointed at the man in shadows as she stepped fully around the corner, revealing herself. Jacket, skirt, leggings and boots, a fairly normal outfit. The weather in this area was mild enough that she hadn't needed to worry too much about what she wore, besides being comfortable enough for a long hike.

"Did you get dropped here after your Tutorial? Or, like, touch something weird?" She'd been a victim of both types of teleportation herself. Keeping her distance, but not seeming too worried about the shadowed stranger, Hana held out the already opened candy bar she'd already bitten into. "You just tear it open. Uh, maybe you should try chips or beef jerky or something if you're not supposed to eat candy...?" That wasn't going to stop Hana from finishing her snack while she watched him fumble with his own.

"Where? Uh...small town, or what's left of it, in the mountains. America. It's, um...something-ville. Only half the sign survived." She adjusted the pack on her shoulder with one hand, the other crumpling up the now empty wrapper. "I'm Hana, by the way." The teen smiled, seeming friendly enough.

Scavenging. That was what things had come to.

Sure, you could get by just doing missions and playing along with Earth-chan. But, if you wanted anything the system didn't provide, you were on your own. Most of the safe zones were packed, and picked over. People were already turning over every last stone in the areas with popular missions. That meant you had to go well off the beaten path to find something new.

Hana had picked a relatively boring part of this country, steered clear of any questing zones, and avoided joining any parties. She wasn't too worried about wandering off on her own. One of the few abilities she'd been given let her return to the nearest safe zone almost instantly, after all. She wasn't really expecting deserted mountains to be as threatening as the snowy wilderness, either.

Even so, wherever this was or used to be, it felt like she didn't belong here. Some sort of small town that'd been half absorbed into the nearby mountain when the landscape was rearranged. So far she hadn't found a proper entrance, just chunks of building jutting through solid rock. The only one with a door she could access seemed to be some sort of convenience store. Half the racks were inside the mountain, but the remaining items seemed perfectly preserved. If a bit dusty.

While stuffing several candy bars into her bag (and one into her mouth), Hana heard a noise. Someone stumbling, cursing, talking to themselves. She froze for a moment, until they called out. "...uh...hello?" She peeked curiously around the corner of the aisle, more than enough sunlight beaming in through the windows for her to make out the stranger struggling with his pants.

Hana nodded to Helen without looking up from the screen. She was once more deep in thought. Free hand sometimes drifting over the keyboard, miming her way through the song. Muttering to herself, updating her notes on the tablet. Standard drumbeat, simple melody, easy to sing lyrics. Hana didn't really know much about this Earth-chan, though.

Was it some sort of hacker? A shadowy corporation? An alien or demon or something? Or maybe she was just having a really bad dream? That'd be nice.

"Alright, I think I've got...something." How long had it been. An hour? She'd lost track. A few final taps on the tablet, and she hooked it up to the TV. Helen could see the screensaver flicker away, replaced with a digital notepad page full of lyrics. There were a few notes like 'chorus' and 'repeat' to the sides as well. Giving her a few minutes to look it over, Hana began carefully turning on the keyboards and plugging her guitar in. "I really hope it's still in tune. I can't really test it first..." She winced at the thought.

"Here goes!" She selected the proper BPM and picked a synth drumbeat for one keyboard, waiting for Helen to look ready...taking a deep breath...and hitting the start button. The speaker came to life, setting the pace...and, thankfully, nothing else happened. Hana let out a sigh of relief and moved to the second keyboard. Pick the right instrument setting, record, and...the teen carefully played a simple rhythm before hitting 'repeat' on the device. Now both keyboards were playing the chosen sounds on a loop. And, Earth-chan seemed to approve. So far.

Hana adjusted her guitar to the proper position, swallowing. Hesitating...and then joining in on the instrument. No flying objects yet! She gave Helen a nod, glanced at the TV screen one last time, and began to sing.

Hana slowly sat up, small plastic boxes and cases sent tumbling and sliding away as she moved. "Ugh. Yeah, probably. Just a second." She carefully scooted herself across the floor to the fallen keyboard, flicking the power switch before poking a key to ensure it was off. "I'll just have to do it in silence."

She made sure all the devices were turned off or unplugged, righting the keyboard and clearing herself a space to stand. "Alright, so...no keyboard, no guitar, no singing...probably no humming, just to be safe." Hana shuffled away from the debris, unplugging the tablet. And making sure it was muted as well. "I think we've gotta play something all the way through without messing up, no practicing first."

Hana gestured towards the floating screen still displaying nothing but their current instructions, including the warning at the end, before focusing her attention on the gaudy tablet. "That means short and simple. I'll put the lyrics up on the TV screen for you." She glanced up at Helen for a moment. "I bet you're required to participate, too. So we'll do two verses, and you can join in the second time through."

Hana was already testing her next idea, poking at the keys again before registering the commotion near Helen. "Watch out for wha-ah!" She noticed the shelf behind her collapsing at the last moment, stumbling to the side and diving onto the carpet. Just barely out of range.

Of course, the falling products crashed into the keyboard a moment later, sending it toppling forward. Discordant electronic tones were produced, followed by more products rocketing off the shelf towards Helen. Televisions crashing to the floor, packaged remotes and cords flying through the air. A line of wall mounting kits flew above Hana, thudding nearby.

Doing her best to avoid the bits of screen shattered across the floor, Hana began making sure the keyboard stands were locked in place and all the cords were tucked away from where they were walking. She even gave the one TV she'd powered on a little wiggle to ensure the stand supporting it was secure.

"Could you push that out of the way or something?" She looked at the fallen television, pointing at it with her chin, since her hands were busy. Leaving Helen to handle that, Hana finally returned to the tablet, looking it over and poking her way through menus. Free hand idly running over the keyboard again. Lips moving as if she were already mumbling lyrics to herself.

Hana's fingers danced across a few keys, working out a simple melody that warbled through the speakers. Before the sound had even faded, Helen saw a shelf in front of her give way, hooks filled with Earth-chan branded cords and cables tipping forward to pelt her with the plastic shells. Not a big deal, until she noticed a line of thick power bricks would be the last items to rain down.

By the time Helen returned, Hana had quite the improvised studio set up. Cords running from keyboards to speakers, another coiled up near the guitar that was now properly resting in a stand. The nearby shelf's endcap had been cleared of other products to now prominently feature one of the many flat screen TVs. Hana could be just barely seen, kneeling behind one of the shelves, where she'd discovered the outlet earlier.

After a few moments of struggle, the television suddenly flickered to life. "Is it working?" Hana called out, poking her head up as she noticed Helen approaching. The screen flashed 'NO SIGNAL' a few times before the warning was replaced with an Earth-chan logo that began lazily sliding across the screen to bounce off the edges. Hana stood and returned to the area they'd claimed to take the small tablet. "Thanks." Another awkward, slightly nervous smile

Tearing open the packaging decorated with more Earth-chan logos, Hana laid out the contents near the TV, plugging the charger into the tablet and repeating the trip back to the hidden outlet. It was booting up by the time she reappeared, screen displaying more cutesy globes. "Uh, while that's starting up, I guess..." She reached around back to plug the tablet's data cable into it for later, before turning to the keyboards.

The speaker hummed as she clicked it on, followed by the keyboard's control board lighting up. Hana brushed the keys, before picking one at random to test. She smiled at the satisfying electronic tone. "Well, that wor-"

Hana cut off with a yelp, as one of the powered down TVs near Helen suddenly flew off the shelf, crashing to the floor nearby.

"Uh huh, sure." Hana just nodded at the idea of her handling it herself. Trying not to think back to the concert Helen mentioned while she worked. While none of the TVs had been playing anything, Helen could see a few of their power lights suddenly flick off as Hana found a working plug. "There we go!"

Leaning her guitar against a shelf, she began to assemble a makeshift performance area. Two keyboards on waist high stands, with a speaker between them. Another that was likely for her guitar. The teen was chewing her lip in thought, eyes flickering about to take things in. "They have power cords...I just need audio..."

"Okay, Miss Helen, I'll keep working on this. Can you find me...uh..." She looked up in the air, thinking...before glancing around. Back the way she'd come from, not that Helen had been able to see her approach. After a moment of squinting, she pointed towards another area with different products.

"I think I walked past a bunch of tablets and phones on display, and then the ones you buy are probably behind that counter. Can you grab me one and turn it on so I can write stuff down?" It took her a few more moments of pondering to even consider an alternative. "...I guess if you find paper and a pen, I could use that instead." The idea seemed unappealing to Hana, from her pained expression.
