This was going to be awkward. Well, it was already awkward, for her. It was going to be more awkward the more people were involved. The best thing she could do now was get it all over with as quickly and (hopefully) painlessly as possible.

Hana fidgeted and hesitated outside the door, trying to think of the proper way to explain the situation. Eventually she realized how late she must be to this arranged meeting, and gave in, knocking on the door quite softly before gently opening it. Peeking her head inside. Blushing when she spotted the rather romantic setup, not to mention the stranger seated there.

"H-hey. Hi. Um, there's, um..." Hana stammered a few times as she slipped most of the way inside, leaving the door open with one hand still on the knob. "There's been a...sorta...misunderstanding." She gave him a rather sheepish smile.

"I thought this was, like, one of the special Valentine's Day missions that Earth-chan set up, for extra points or items and stuff. Like, we were being paired up to go fight a monster or something. Not..." Hana gestured around the room with her free hand. "...this." She made a face, cringing a bit, quite aware of how she must sound. "...sorry." The teen gave a quick bow, obviously planning to back right out of the room as soon as possible.

Hana had decided to compromise with the dogs, letting them drag her outside where at least they weren't blocking everyone's way. They were all trying to go a different direction, which at least meant they were mostly just spinning her in circles. On one revolution she saw the pink-haired girl rushing her way, and realized this might be her partner for the mission.

"Huh? Oh, it's fine! At least you, like, didn't run into any monsters or anything, right?" She happily relinquished one leash, shuffling the others around before attempting to hand the new arrival a second one. "Oh, I'm Hana. It's nice to meet you." She bowed to the taller girl, able to mostly hold still now that the dog distribution was a bit more even.

The second part of the introduction caught her off guard. "...oh, uh, that's the class it gave you? Mine's Star Belief." Hana still wasn't really sure what that meant, or how it applied to the abilities she'd been given. "I think the outfit suits you, Miss Summer. Did it give you pink hair too, or...?" She trailed off, curious.

They weren't going to be able to stand around and talk, though. The pups were persistently pulling the pair, urging them to get moving on their walk through the London streets.

These ones that let you stay in a Safe Zone were a good way to grab a few extra points while usually helping out some normal people, and not some crazy scientist that wanted you to fight a giant robot or whatever. This one seemed to be some sort of limited time only event, so she might as well take advantage of the opportunity while it was available. [break][break] Honestly, this one was for a good enough cause that she might have to make the trip to help out even after it was no longer an official mission. It made sense that there were more pets than masters at the moment, with plenty of animals left running free with their owners gone missing. Hana had always travelled too much to have pets, so she'd liked helping her friends out with theirs when she could. This was also a good excuse to explore a city she'd only briefly visited a few times. [break][break] The only problem at the moment was the dog to human ratio. [break][break] With at least two leashes in each hand, Hana was struggling to simply hold on and keep the dogs from dragging her out of the shelter before her assigned partner had arrived. The system menu only provided Summer's name and some other basic information, so she wasn't quite sure who to look for. The teen was wearing her usual dress and jacket combo at the moment, guitar and other equipment safely stashed in her inventory. "No offense, but I don't really trust Earth-chan to be all that honest or helpful. As long as we play the game, it seems, uh...neutral at best. I bet if we go poking around too much though..." Hana just shrugged. The trip was, thankfully, proceeding fairly uneventfully. She was steadily becoming more confident as they continued on, although Hana still spent most of the trip staring at the road, gripping the steering wheel tightly.

"Thanks, though." She briefly turned a smile towards him, before focusing on the drive again. "I figure if I level up enough, people will notice me, including them if they're around. I've been posting through the system when I can, but it'd be a lot easier if I could put up videos again..." Hana's music channel might've been small, but it definitely could've helped spread the word in this situation.

As far as her parents and Miss Utano were concerned, they were actually famous, and people would definitely be talking about that somewhere. She'd seen a few reports about the final concert nobody could find footage of, but that was about it. She hadn't run into them anywhere near home either, and most of the new Tokyo was too dangerous to explore now. At least at her current level.

"Oh, thank you, Mister Olliver. I think I've mostly got it figured out, but...thank you." A wider smile this time, before she began to slow the vehicle. "It's somewhere around here?" Hana gestured to the map, hoping he'd be able to guide her towards the pickup spot, while she scanned the area for their contact.

"I'll remember that if I find something interesting that I can't use. And if you really know a way to get to the Forge, I'd like to see it someday." The teen suddenly pointed at a figure with the same noticeable question mark icon floating above them. She wasn't any better at parking the truck this time, but at least she didn't stutter to a stop this time.

"Well...we don't really have a choice, right?" Hana hesitated near the truck, as Ollie complimented her on how easily she'd adapted. "Sometimes the world just changes, I guess. There's a war, or something like the internet is invented. I was a little kid when The Light happened, but I remember stuff changing after that. You probably remember it better than me." Shaking her head, she moved around to the driver's side of the vehicle.

"My mom and dad disappeared. And my manager, and Miss Utano. I don't...there's no, like, way to know what happened. But they're probably just being held back for later." Once in her seat, Hana stared at the steering wheel while she spoke, needing a few moments to recover before starting the truck again. "So, I've gotta survive to be around when they load in, right?" She turned to give Ollie another practiced smile, eyes just slightly misty.

"...it'd be a lot easier if the internet still worked. Or phones. Or anything." After that, she concentrated on (slowly) driving, listening to Ollie explaining some details of his line of work. They were heading in a new direction, but at least the system provided a map once they'd officially accepted the mission. The popup floated inside the vehicle, where both of them could follow the travel instructions.

"Yeah, I hope there's no, uh, surprises this time." Learning to drive on the fly was already stressful enough. "So, you can like, improve items too? I've heard people mention a Forge a few times, but I've never seen it myself. Something like that?"

"Oh, that kinda stuff? Like, what Earth-chan sells?" Hana assumed the system itself handled all of that, but it made sense that at least a few people would specialize in it as well. "I thought I'd grab stuff you can't get that way, to trade. But, a monster attacked us before we could get anything but snacks, mostly."

She glanced over as Ollie pointed out the obvious mission contact. More of Earth-chan's sense of humor, she assumed. Carefully pulling up near the curb, she parked the truck and shut it down, holding the spare key in one hand. Hana looked worried for a moment as the giant serpent caused it to wobble and shift, but no damage seemed to be done. "Um, you know we'll need that space for the boxes on the way back, right?" She half-whispered to the merchant, before nodding and approaching their contact.

Poking at the air, a system menu popped up in front of her. Hana was getting better at pulling these up on the fly now, and could even manage to access a few standard commands and skills without manually selecting them each time. For now, she formally set up the party for her and Ollie, checking the 'accept mission' prompt as well, now that their proximity to the trinket-obsessed man had fully unlocked it.

There wasn't much interesting about the conversation. Hana bowed, gestured to the other two, pointed at the truck. A few more animated gestures, some nodding back and forth. They were the first ones to respond to the mission...today, at least.

"Just how many boxes do they go through?" Hana had a slightly bewildered look on her face as she returned to the truck, waving Ollie back towards it. And sparing the serpent one unsure glance. "People are bringing truckloads of boxes every day? Is this, like, whole block just storage space?"

Hana smiled as Ollie dismounted and began to head for the passenger side of the truck. It took her a few moments of fumbling to find the proper controls, but she managed to unlock the door before he tried to open it. Even though her window was broken, she'd apparently locked the doors out of habit.

She wasn't expecting a second passenger, though. The truck wobbling as the weighty serpent slithered up into the pickup bed, sending the teen swaying in her seat. Hana had assumed it just disappeared when not in use, but it wasn't like she had any familiarity with the way the system handled creatures like that.

While the system menus usually shared all that information with the party members, it was always good to be polite. "Oh, it's nice to meet you, Mister Olliver. My name's Hana." She nodded her head and bent forward slightly, the best approximation of a bow she could manage in this position. The rest of his introduction didn't seem to register as familiar to her, but she was fairly well trained at interacting with strangers she was supposed to recognize.

"Oh, is that you, really?" Hana gave him a larger, more practiced smile. "I actually went looking for some supplies to resell a while back, maybe you could help me with that?" She carefully shifted the truck into drive, and began slowly rolling the final block to where they could officially start the mission.

"Do you have any use for, uh, like, a half dozen bottles of whiskey? I mean, obviously I don't!"

Hana reflexively leaned away from the window as the creature moved closer, although all it did after was lower the stranger down where he could better see her. "The license? Uh...I got it for Christmas?" That was really all there was to it, but even Hana had a hard time believing it.

She did relax just slightly as the man reassured her the beast wasn't a threat. "I just, uh, wasn't expecting to see something like that on the road." Hana seemed to be recovering quickly from the surprise, managing a small smile in return. "It's alright...it's not the weirdest thing I've seen, really."

Hana glanced out the front window of the truck as he pointed in the same direction she'd been heading. "A mission? The delivery one?" She hadn't noticed any others in the area, unless he could see something she couldn't.

"I haven't been doing this for too long, but...I've mostly figured out how to stay safe, at least." No more leaving the Safe Zones until she'd leveled up enough to have some sort of proper attack.

Hana was so focused on maneuvering the truck that it took her a few moments to realize most of the people on the street were no long staring at her. She glanced side to side, searching for what was drawing their attention, before remembering to check her mirrors. The truck jerked to a halt as she slammed on the brakes. There was a man on a giant snake right behind her.

"...go...go around!" The teen extended her left arm out the broken driver's side window, trying to wave the stranger past. But, he only seemed to be getting closer, like he wanted to sidle right up next to her vehicle. Hana really wished she could roll the window up.

Unsure of what she should do in response, Hana put the truck in park, turning her body to keep her eyes on the giant creature as it approached. Along with the person that seemed to be controlling it.

The shadowy assistant faded away along with their ghostly assailant, as the congratulatory popup reappeared in front of Hana. "Finally, we're done with...whatever this was." She kicked a few fallen boxes out of her way as she left cover behind and moved back into the open again, standing in the store's main aisle.

"...so, you got, like...bubble powers, Miss Helen?" Hana wasn't sure what else to say about what had just happened. What had at first seemed like an earthquake or other natural disaster was now definitely more unnatural than she'd been prepared for. There were video game menus and magic powers involved. Also, ghosts, apparently?

Helen still needed to find her son, and Hana had no clue where her parents were, if this place wasn't just a store across the street from where she'd been performing just hours earlier. Actually, if this involved moving people around the country instantly, she had no idea how long it'd really been since the strange event started.

"Um, I guess we should...go now." Hana looked around at the destruction they'd been involved with. "If we're still in Japan, we could try to head to my place. Or where we had the concert...or maybe the studio. Depending on what it looks like out there." She turned towards the nearest exit, which was helpfully pointed out by a cheery Earth-chan sign.

While the reason why had changed, she was still experiencing difficulty getting across town. There wasn't exactly much traffic anymore, since most of the vehicles left intact had been made undriveable by Earth-chan. Now the streets were jammed full in other ways. [break][break] Abandoned cars and trucks, of course. Most had been pushed to one side or the other, at least on the roads Hana was using, but there were still plenty of inoperable or wrecked vehicles in the way. People were living in some of them, although it wasn't difficult to find an empty building to squat in, with the reduced population. Pedestrians were another problem, and there were more of them now than ever before. [break][break] The biggest obstacle, however, was debris. She could wait for a person to move, or squeeze around another vehicle. There wasn't much she could do about a road blocked by a fallen building or collapsed section of bridge. It was slow going, but at least there were only a handful of other moving vehicles to worry about. [break][break] Hana really appreciated this, seeing as it was her first time driving. [break][break] She had a license as far as Earth-chan was concerned, and it wasn't like there were traffic cops around to stop her. All she'd had to do was start looking for trucks near the place that had requested some sort of delivery, and check any likely candidates for keys and unlocked doors. Hana had gotten lucky after a half dozen attempts, settling for a pickup with only one broken window and a spare key hidden in the third place she'd checked. [break][break] Now the truck was awkwardly stuttering towards her destination, moving painfully slow and frequently slamming on the brakes. Hana still had a few blocks to go just to start the mission, then the entire trip to the pickup location, and then all the way back. This could take all day, and she wasn't even sure the mission was still available. Hopefully none of the people staring at her right now had beaten her to it. They could probably walk all the way there and back faster than she was driving. Hana peeked over the shelf just in time to see the spotlight fall harmlessly through the ghost, crashing to the floor near the other two. She had been worried something like that might happen. Although, from the way their enemy was reacting, it didn't seem like the ghost could keep that up forever.

One spotlight had fallen, and the other flickered out at the same time the floating objects clattered to the ground. From all the wailing and panting, the ghost seemed upset, although this was also the first time she'd ever seen a ghost. They were supposed to spend most of their time wailing, right?

"Keep doing that...water stuff! I think it's working!" For her part, Hana continued to fight fire with fire. Or flying objects with flying objects. After a few more gestures to direct the shadowy figure, it yanked down one side of a long fluorescent light fixture, sending it swinging down from the ceiling towards the musical manifestation.

Hana dropped back behind the shelf as she saw Helen rush towards their attacker. A moment later, the shelf dented in as one of the flying objects smashed into it, sending more boxes raining down onto the teen. There was a muffled yelp as she rubbed her head, fumbling for a moment before relocating slightly to hopefully make it more difficult for the ghost to target her.

"There has to be something useful in here..." She mumbled to herself as she looked over the screen that had continued to bob about in front of her. This last ability didn't seem to require any specific numbers to work, so it was worth a try. "Summon it where? Uh..." Hana looked side to side. Then upwards.

Pointing towards the closer spotlight, the shadows in the cables and connectors above it seemed to thicken, before coalescing into a humanoid form. "...gross." Hana made a face at the sight, but she would have to work with what she'd been given. After a moment of hesitation, she mimed twisting and turning with one hand, and the shadowy stagehand reached out and began unscrewing the spotlight from its housing.

Hana couldn't see the action on the other side of the shelf, but if Helen could maneuver the ghost under the spotlight then it just might do some damage as it fell. Even if that didn't work, at least she could take the tracking light out of the equation, and perhaps prevent another blinding attack in the future.

Hana sniffed at the air a few times, before covering her mouth and nose with a hand. "Oh great, it's all over me...I stink now." Free hand brushing broken glass out of her now damp hair, clothes soggy in several places as well. Dust and dirt from both inside and outside smeared all over.

She couldn't do much but hunker down next to Emir, once he crashed inside to join her. The strange shield he'd blocked the window with seemed to be temporarily keeping the whirlwind from following them inside, at least. "I think it's working!" Shouting over the noise, Hana pointed at the floating screen displaying the steadily filling status bar. "...are you really complaining about your family right now? Really!?"

Hana glared at Emir, before wincing as dust began to leak, then stream through the window, as that makeshift shield failed. She reflexively grabbed ahold of him, diving in closer, for support or protection. Most likely just another layer between her and the monster outside.

As the vulture swooped inside, the two blipped out of existence. The beast went crashing through the store, toppling several more shelves and ruining more of the product they'd planned to return for later. It didn't seem happy about lunch escaping, but thankfully they weren't there to hear those cries of anger.

Hana yelped at the sudden movement, landing on top of Emir with a loud grunt. "Oof...where are we?" It seemed to be some sort of back alley, probably in one of the still populated cities closest to the ghost town they'd escaped from. Wiping dust off her glasses, Hana looked around, but the only thing that caught her eye was a stray cat struggling to free some tuna from a can that had been dented open.
