Elisande had never been that physically strong, and she didn't like the idea of leaving Orvis with no way to defend himself if the Mishipeshu still decided to pursue him instead of going after her. No, it was better for her to leave him with his weapon. It wouldn't be much use for her to grab it anyway.[break][break] She was still trying to figure out a plan when Grumble floated up into the air and became veiled in digital light. She had to remind herself they were in danger to not let her curiosity get the best of her, launching another rock at the Mishipeshu in an attempt to help Orvis. Luckily the next attack from the monster was blocked by whatever was happening with Grumble, which was far more effective than her contribution currently.[break][break] Elisande didn't know what she expected from the whole ordeal, but she didn't quite expect an entirely new creature to burst out of the blue and attack the Mishipeshu. She watched in awe as it seemingly effortlessly launched the Mishipeshu into the air, never letting her eyes leave their assailant as it flew over them and slid across the sand.[break][break] While Grumble took its place to defend them from the Mishipeshu, Delphi circled back around and made an attack of its own. The dolphin crashed into the Mishipeshu and sent it tumbling across the sand again, and once more Delphi swam off to circle around for another blow.[break][break] {COMBAT LOG}Elisande throws another rock at the Mishipeshu.[break]

That explains the rifle. She thought to herself as she looked him over. It was the first time someone had introduced themselves with their class. And honestly, she'd be pretty surprised if that didn't soon become a far more common occurrence. "Elisande~" She reached her own hand out to take his and accept the handshake. "Astrologer." Listening to him describe how much of London had been altered only made her feel more grateful that Los Angeles had remained relatively unchanged. Naturally there were more pressing concerns, but it did bum her out a bit that she'd never get the chance to see some of the wonders of the old world. Slowly but surely people were adjusting to their new lives, which was nice to see. Elisande couldn't help but wonder how many of the people she saw passing by had lived here before it all changed and how many were refugees. With Los Angeles being one of the world's few safe zones, she wouldn't be surprised if many were the latter.[break][break]
She was deeply lost in thought and absentmindedly taking the last sip of her coffee when she heard the voice call out to her. Elisande turned towards the newcomer with a bright smile on her face, brushing some of her hair behind her ear as she did so. "Exploration party?" She shook her head. "Sorry, this is the first I'm hearing of anything like that."[break][break]
She sighed softly. Another reminder that the world isn't as it once was, though a more pleasant one than some of the others. It was good to see people taking the initiative, and the idea of an exploration party was definitely a good one. "Are you supposed to be meeting someone here? I've been here most of the morning. If you can describe who you're looking for, maybe I can point you in their direction." She was doing her best to keep her eyes closed for the most part and her nose and mouth covered the best she could, not wanting the sandstorm to jeopardize her one chance at this. She felt the bike twisting and turning through the sand, Fliss expertly managing her vehicle despite the unusual conditions. It was only a matter of time before it was her turn to step up to the plate.[break][break] Take your shot![break][break] The party message caused Elisande's eyes to flicker open, and upon reading the words she completely adjusted herself on the back of Fliss's bike. She leaned back slightly from the other woman, her eyes scanning the area ahead in the hopes that she could find Miyah quickly instead of firing off a blind shot. "Come on..."[break][break] A quick flash of light against steel and the sound of Miyah's voice pulled Elisande's attention towards where the mummy was. It seemed Fliss had done a damn near perfect job of lining them up. "There you are..." She held out her free hand up against Fliss's back, the other arm still wrapped around the woman's waist to keep Elisande from falling off the bike. "Here goes nothing!"[break][break] [attr="class","elisysbox"] [attr="class","elisysbar"] ability used[break] Stars Aligned: Create a sputter of starlight that travels 10 feet in a straight line to deal damage equal to your [PWR] - 1 Rank. If this harmlessly hits a party member instead (including a summon), the damage increases by 1 Rank and travels an extra 10 feet. Caps at +3 Ranks and 30 ft. 4 post cooldown. [break] A small orb of starlight formed in her palm before immediately firing off through Fliss, instantaneously turning from a dim glow into a bright ball of light as it surged forward through the sandstorm. Delphi quickly circled back around and intercepted the shot, once again causing it to grow in brightness and surge forward with renewed vigor. The dolphin then began to chase after the light, rushing forward towards the mummy.[break][break] As Miyah continued to dance around the mummy and fend off the smaller bandage monsters the orb of light would swiftly approach. Whether by luck or by a well-placed shot on Elisande's part, the orb would just barely manage to hit Miyah. At that point it would turn from a bright glow into an almost blinding radiance before crashing into the mummy. Almost instantly after it hit Delphi would crash into the mummy as well.[break][break] With that the sandstorm abruptly subsided and vision was returned to the group. The smaller creatures either disappeared or crawled back down into the sands. With how fast it all happened it was hard to tell for sure. However, one thing was certain. Where there was once a mummy there was now nothing more than a pile of shredded bandages, the rusted ceremonial armor it had been wearing scattered across the sands.[break][break] [attr="class","elisysbox"] [attr="class","elisysbar"] system message[break] The boss monster has been defeated! [break] Elisande turned towards Fliss and Miyah with a bright smile on her face. "We did it!" Though soon enough the smile vanished as she briefly looked around. There were so many dead, and so many more dying or severely injured. The northern star was an extremely important astrological discovery, and if there was any place she figured she might find an interesting star map it was the northernmost reaches of the world. Having overheard some people in the Hub who seemed to have just gotten back from Arctica talking about how the aurora was breathtaking today Elisande had made her way to Arctica. It was approaching sunset by now and the sight was honestly just as breathtaking as she was hoping. The different hues of sunset illuminated the horizon as the colorful lights danced around the sky. She muttered under her breath as she scrambled to find some way to help. Elisande's ability was powerful, but it was just about all she could actually contribute on her own. With it having a decent period of time before she could use it again she felt like she was pretty useless. She had no other fighting capabilities to speak of. She didn't even have a weapon. "Shit!"[break][break] She hadn't expected Orvis to just charge back in at the monster when she said she didn't think they could outrun it. It was brave, if nothing else, and he at least had a weapon. But with Grumble latched on to one leg of the Mishipeshu, Orvis swinging at the other, and the creature still showing no signs of backing down, Elisande wasn't feeling good about just sitting back and hoping for the best.[break][break] At least she had Delphi. The dolphin was still swimming circles around the Mishipeshu, always looking for an opening where it could swoop in and land a blow. With the monster's attention seeming to be mostly focused on Orvis and Grumble it was a lot easier for Delphi. The celestial creature once again surged forward and crashed into the Mishipeshu's side before swimming away, causing the monster to let out another roar. Elisande couldn't help but feel like the sounds the creature was making were more ones of annoyance than pain, though.[break][break] She rushed over towards where Orvis was now lying in the sand after having been swatted away by the Mishipeshu's tail, getting down next to him and placing a hand gently on his side. "Hey, are you okay?" She looked back up at the monster, its gaze still seemingly focused on the two of them as it took a predatory stance. It looked as if it was getting ready to pounce.[break][break] Shit... Elisande thought to herself as she stood back up. If nothing else, she could at least attempt to distract the creature while Orvis recovered. Considering the way it was treating Delphi as if it was just some annoyance she didn't know if it would actually work, but it was better than nothing. Quickly searching the surrounding area she found a handful of small, smooth stones. She grabbed as many as she could, took aim, and tried to launch one right at the creature's eyes, moving away from Orvis as she did so to try and draw it away.[break][break] {COMBAT LOG}Delphi makes one [F Rank] [basic] attack on the Mishipeshu.[break]

The park was only a short walk from her apartment and it was always enjoyable to just take some time to just relax and people watch. Ever since that day, however, she had yet to come back. It was still all too easy to get lost in how different everything was and forget to take time to enjoy the little things in life. In fact, the last time she had done so was when she had taken another day like today to explicitly ignore all of the world's changes and get back to her familiar comforts.[break][break]
Last time had been a coffee shop nearby, and while she had still stopped there to pick up a coffee, she had decided not to stay there this time. Elisande had mad her way over to the park and found a bench with a nice scenic view (or at least as scenic of a view as you could get in a city like Los Angeles), slowly sipping on her drink as she watched people pass by. By the time she was halfway done her coffee she had decided to get up and walk around, though she stayed within the park.[break][break]
If she closed her eyes and just enjoyed the day, she was sure she could lose herself in nostalgia and bring herself back to a time before everything changed. But when she opened them the differences were clear. So many less people. So few of them going about a normal day or just enjoying their day off. And to be completely honest, she didn't want to dwell on the past. She was never the type to do so. Her goal was to always move forward.[break][break]
Elisande sighed and took another sip of her coffee as she looked around for another place to take a seat. There was a bench nearby that had a good view of the center of the park, and it was a bit more pleasing to look at then staring out into the city streets, but just as good for people watching. So she took another seat, almost finished coffee in hand, and resolved herself to make the most of her downtime. After today she was going back to her new "normal", and it wasn't exactly relaxing. Exciting? Sometimes. But never relaxing. Even if it was mostly meant as flirty fun and a bit of banter she found these conversations and the information that could come from them far more interesting than more practical discussions most of the time. Demons weren't real, at least not before this all happened. There were plenty of cultures and religions that believed the opposite, but Elisande was certain that there were no actual demons in this world, only people who could be classified as such. It was far more dangerous when no outward appearance could give away what someone was like inside. Though the mention of such did draw her attention to Susame's appearance again, particularly some of his more unique features. Perhaps there was more of a literal implication after all, at least now that the world had changed.[break][break]

Elisande finished her own meal shortly after him, washing it down with the rest of her coffee and then letting out a soft laugh. "I knew you'd come around. No one can pass up dessert~" It didn't take her long to make her own selection. After all, she would have ordered something regardless of whether or not he was planning to. Elisande hadn't even considered that with how awestruck she was. She briefly closed her eyes and tried to picture the scenery before her at night. In her mind the galaxy-like treetops gave off the gentle glow of starlight, and the various bioluminescent plants lit up different parts of the forest in neon lights. She'd have to make sure to come back and see it for herself for real if they didn't end up staying late enough to see it today.[break][break]
"Which way should we go?"[break][break]
Her eyes slowly opened again as she contemplated the question. The obvious choice seemed to be the path following the river, at least at first glance. Not only that but she was also curious where the river would lead, or if it would lead anywhere at all. After all, it seemed to start from nowhere thanks to the cascading water from islands above. She wouldn't be surprised if it simply continued running until it came to the edge of this island and formed a waterfall of its own.[break][break]
"Let's follow the river for now?" It was half a question and half a statement. "It should be easier to find our way back with the stone pathway than if we were to just wander off into the forest, and we can always choose to be more adventurous later if we want." She gave a small nod, more confirming to herself that it was a good idea than anything else. "Does that sound good to you?"[break][break]
If so, Elisande would have started down the stone pathway into the forest. Either way she would speak up again before long. "So, earlier..." She smiled at him, her attention constantly bouncing between him and their otherworldly surroundings. "...you said you can buff people. If you don't mind me asking, what's your class?" Sure, it could be just another slime, or even some other kind of monster, but she had to at least check. She started to head off in that direction, careful not to indicate to whatever was hiding in the shadows that she was on her way. When she heard what seemed to be someone's stomach growling, however, she stopped being as cautious and began to approach more quickly.[break][break]

Only after spending a moment to look more carefully did she notice the girl attempting to hide from her. A kid? She thought to herself as she got a vague glimpse of them in their hiding spot. It was only natural that someone younger would be scared in a situation like this, so with a smile on her face and a soft tone she would slowly approach. "Are you okay?" She would have loved to just run. The safe zone of Los Angeles wasn't actually that far away, though they had been steadily making their way away from it as they wandered down the beach. There was only one major concern which she was quick to voice. "Do you really think we could outrun this thing?" It looked like a big cat, and Elisande wasn't confident in her ability to outrun a normal lion, tiger or panther, let alone one straight out of a fantasy video game.[break][break] Their best hope in that regard would be that it was an aquatic creature. Maybe, just maybe, it wasn't meant to hunt on land. Either way she didn't like their odds. Besides, plenty of predators would be dissuaded from a hunt if it seemed like too much effort, or if the prey put up too much of a fight. Most animals just wanted a quick, easy meal. It's why they went for the weakest of the pack in most natural situations. She figured there was at least a chance of it backing off if they showed it wouldn't be completely effortless to hunt them down.[break][break] Unfortunately, that didn't seem to be the case. Delphi crashing into the side of the creature seemed to enrage it. It thrashed about wildly trying to bite or claw Delphi out of the sky. The celestial dolphin's tail just barely fluttered out of the way of the creature's jaws as they snapped down, and as Delphi came in for another hit, Elisande prepared an attack of her own.[break][break] She followed Orvis as he made his way back up the beach and away from the water, then sprinted past him. In a display that surely might confuse and frighten him in the heat of the moment with no explanation she would spin towards him. She made sure to position him between her and the creature and pointed at him, a small sputter of starlight forming at her fingertip as she did so. She fired it off shortly after, sending it directly at Orvis.[break][break] [attr="class","elisysbox"] [attr="class","elisysbar"] ability used[break] Stars Aligned: Create a sputter of starlight that travels 10 feet in a straight line to deal damage equal to your [PWR] - 1 Rank. If this harmlessly hits a party member instead (including a summon), the damage increases by 1 Rank and travels an extra 10 feet. Caps at +3 Ranks and 30 ft. 4 post cooldown. [break] As the small orb of light collided with Orvis's chest it would grow a bit brighter, harmlessly passing through him before continuing on towards Grumble. Once again it grew brighter as it collided with the slime, and once again it harmlessly passed through and continued on its way. Delphi was the final piece of the puzzle, altering its path to cross through the starlight's trajectory right as it would come into range to collide with the dolphin. The now almost blindingly radiant orb of light surged forward and collided right with the Mishipeshu's maw, finally making a loud cracking sound before the light fizzled out.[break][break] Delphi surged forward behind the orb of light, and the Mishipeshu was only given a fraction of a second to recover from the initial impact before the celestial dolphin crashed into its side once more, causing the creature to let out another ferocious roar. It seemed to be determining if the greater threat was the dolphin or the two humans backing away from it, and as its gaze fell on the two of them, it seemed to be preparing to chase them down. In fact now that he had mentioned parts of America being completely barren, she realized that she had witnessed this first hand. Her tutorial seemed to be in the United States, and originally she assumed it might have just been in the middle of a desert or something. But the more she thought on it, the more likely it was that the empty expanse of sand she had found herself in was once something completely different.[break][break] The way Grumble was pestering Orvis was cute at first. Elisande even laughed at it again before she noticed the ocean starting to become more violent. It was strange considering the day was still beautiful, but having grown up in the coastal city, Elisande was rather familiar with sudden changes in weather. What they were seeing now was reminiscent of a tropical storm rolling in, or at worst, a more severe natural disaster. "Orvis, get away from the shoreline."[break][break] If it had indeed been something natural they would have had plenty of time to react. However, what happened next was anything but natural to Elisande. As the waves died down and the cat-like creature emerged from the depths, it became very apparent to Elisande just how real the words [safe zone] were in this new world. And unlike an approaching storm, the two had very little time to prepare for this encounter.[break][break] As the creature circled them Delphi matched its movements, attempting to stay between Elisande and her adversary. If her tutorial had taught her anything it was that this creature was most definitely trying to kill them, either for food or for sport. She kept her voice hushed, not making and sudden movements, her eyes following the creature as she slowly turned with it so it would never end up behind her. "I hope you and Grumble are ready for a fight."[break][break] She didn't want to give this creature the opportunity to strike first. Elisande took a deep breath as she counted down in her head. Three... two... one... A sharp whistle was the signal.
