The smell alone was enough to dissuade her from wanting to go any farther. Even if she could get over that, the scenery was straight out of a horror show. Jagged outcrops of rock remained where the rest of the land had been ripped away and thrust into the sky, scattered across the continent. All of the flora she had passed on her way here looked as if it was ready to wither and rot.[break][break]
And then the fog rolled in.[break][break]
It hadn't been quite as bad when she got here, though she could still barely see off into the distance. But now the entire valley below was filled with a thick layer of fog and mist. She could barely see a few feet down from the clifftop she was standing on, and everything past that was covered in a veil of grey. Luckily her vantage point seemed to just barely rise above where the fog settled. She would have felt far more uncomfortable if she was cloaked in fog herself.[break][break]
Elisande had wanted to explore as many of the "zones" as possible. Out of all the ones she had been to thus far, this was the first where she was considering turning back before she even got started. However, for the time being she would have to choose between waiting for the fog to die down again, or braving it into the shrouded landscape. The former seemed like the safest option, especially with her having absolutely no idea what might be waiting for her down below. Streets replaced with flowing rapids. Skyscrapers that had come crashing down, interwoven with trees and vines and flowers. Some that still stood, rising taller than they ever had before. As she carefully ventured from street to street, walking across the horizontal buildings and bridges made from vines and tree branches to avoid drudging through the flooded streets, Elisande still couldn't believe her eyes. Days ago this was a massive, thriving city. Now it looked like it had been abandoned for eons.[break][break]
Eventually she came to a series of buildings that were still intact, despite the top of them just barely poking out above the water. It was maybe a ten foot drop from the rooftops to the water below. Elisande carefully made her way over to the edge of one of the rooftops, taking a seat with her legs dangling out over the water. She stared off into the distance, taking in this weird mixture of verdant jungle meeting concrete jungle.[break][break]
It was important to keep her guard up here. Even in her short journey so far, Elisande had already seen various different monsters off in the distance. So while she was enthralled by the scenery, she didn't let herself get too lost in thought. Her eyes were constantly scanning for any movement. She was listening carefully to everything going on around her. If anything approached, she would hopefully notice before it got too close. She had intermittently explored some of the other regions already, but that exploration had mostly been through areas that were completely reformed by the "awakening". The mountains of America. The floating islands of Europa. Each filled her with wonder and awe. But now that she was here in London, she wondered how much had been lost in those lands she had explored.[break][break]
She currently found herself in one of London's few safe zones. That in itself was a bit of a shock for her. Where basically all of Los Angeles was safe and untouched, London it seemed more like someone threw darts at a dartboard to randomly select certain parts of the city to spare. What had happened to those who weren't as lucky? How many lives were lost or ruined?[break][break]
London was a solemn reminder that just because some parts of the world remained unchanged, and others became something straight out of a fantasy world, parts of the world simply just suffered. And this wasn't even as bad as what she heard happened to some of the other major cities around the world.[break][break]
Elisande pushed the thoughts to the back of her mind, not wanting to dwell on them. She had confirmed with her own eyes what Orvis had told her, and would still need to venture out into the countryside to really get an idea of what happened here. But for now, her priority was getting familiar with London's layout. She needed an idea of how to get around the city and stay mostly in the safe zones if she had any plans to spend any time here.[break][break]
For now, she picked a random direction and just started walking. She would keep to the streets that seemed to have other people walking them. A few of them seemed to be people who were just going about their normal lives, as if nothing had changed. More of them seemed to be people like her, here to see the aftermath of the recent changes to the world and explore the city. It really does feel completely different from Los Angeles. She thought to herself as she walked the streets, keeping her eyes peeled for anything interesting. Elisande simply offered him a shrug in return. "I feel like I can do both~" She smiled and laughed again. "Not that you need it, mister big, strong man." The tone of her voice was playful rather than antagonistic, but she wouldn't have been surprised if he took it more as a taunt than anything else based on his reactions so far.[break][break]
She was quick to follow him as he took off, matching his pace and trying to stay right behind him. As they walked she was keeping her eyes peeled for anything that resembled an entrance to the cavern systems, but she kept a relaxed attitude the whole time. It would be easy for someone to think she wasn't taking this seriously, even though that couldn't be farther from the truth. "You know, if you don't introduce yourself, I'm just going to have to make up a nickname for you."[break][break]
Still no sign of an entrance. Elisande figured that they probably had to climb the mountainside a bit before they found their destination. From everything she could tell, it certainly seemed to be structured like some kind of game. And while she had minimal experience with the type of games this seemed
to be structured after, she at least understood the basics. The harder part was coming to terms with the fact that this might all actually be real.[break][break]
After she had finished reading through her "class" and "abilities", she made a few last attempts to wake herself up, just in case this was a dream. No luck. As unbelievable as it all was, it seemed like this was actually happening.[break][break]
Admittedly, throughout all of that she was off in her own little world. She snapped back to reality just in time to hear Miyah.[break][break]

As Fliss took off to scout ahead, Elisande's gaze followed her off into the distance briefly before turning towards the hill that Miyah had mentioned. "Not a bad idea. Survival isn't exactly my area of expertise, and you seem to know what you're doing. So I'll defer to you."[break][break]
She assumed Fliss had heard the plan before driving off. At least, hopefully she did. So with that, Elisande began moving towards the hill that Miyah had pointing out. Every so often she would check to make sure Miyah was actually with her, and if it seemed like Miyah stopped or changed her mind, Elisande would adjust accordingly.[break][break]
She was mostly quiet as she walked, focused more on getting the lay of the land and trying to figure out anything she could about the message that had appeared on the blue screen in the sky than making conversation. But after a few minutes, she decided to speak up. "What do you think it means by 'boss monster' anyway?" For the life of her, she couldn't figure out what she was even supposed to be looking for.[break][break]
The sound of Fliss's bike off in the distance drew her attention, and she was relieved to see that Fliss had come back safely. But after a few moments she realized something was off. "Didn't she drive off in the other direction...?"[break][break]
From this distance she could barely make out what Fliss was saying. Something about a line in the sand? As she struggled to make it out, she caught a glimpse of movement nearby. One of the mummy-like creatures had climbed out of the sand next to her. While trying to determine where such a place could possibly be, she caught a glimpse of someone coming towards her out of the corner of her eye. While she had no extrasensory abilities to speak of, she was generally aware of her surroundings. A graceful twirl put her just out of the way of the individual. But after what was actually a pretty decent meal, the realization that she didn't really have anything else to do today persuaded her to just continue exploring the hub on her own for now. She figured there was no harm in having at least some downtime, and she could always get back to exploring tomorrow.[break][break]
Making her way back out onto the streets, she noticed it was seemingly a bit more crowded here than it was earlier. Perhaps more people were finishing their "tutorials", or simply more people were discovering this place existed. Either way, it didn't really impact her too much. Though she had always enjoyed people watching, and this at least gave her something else to do while she wandered around aimlessly.[break][break]
After taking a moment to just watch the people going by, Elisande began to make her way off in the direction she had yet to explore. She figured she could spend a few more hours here at least before getting some sleep, and with no real goal in mind, the only thing she knew for sure was that it didn't make much sense to head back the way she came.[break][break]
She hummed to herself as she walked down the streets, keeping an eye out for anything interesting. So far she had quite a bit of luck meeting some interesting people just by being in the right place at the right time. Maybe she could keep that lucky streak rolling? One more string of dolphin noises caused her to laugh again. She turned back towards Orvis, taking a few steps closer now that introductions were out of the way. "I grew up here myself. It's admittedly quite relieving that it's apparently a safe zone." She shrugged her shoulders ever so slightly. "But I'm not one to just sit around.
