The park was only a short walk from her apartment and it was always enjoyable to just take some time to just relax and people watch. Ever since that day, however, she had yet to come back. It was still all too easy to get lost in how different everything was and forget to take time to enjoy the little things in life. In fact, the last time she had done so was when she had taken another day like today to explicitly ignore all of the world's changes and get back to her familiar comforts.[break][break]
Last time had been a coffee shop nearby, and while she had still stopped there to pick up a coffee, she had decided not to stay there this time. Elisande had mad her way over to the park and found a bench with a nice scenic view (or at least as scenic of a view as you could get in a city like Los Angeles), slowly sipping on her drink as she watched people pass by. By the time she was halfway done her coffee she had decided to get up and walk around, though she stayed within the park.[break][break]
If she closed her eyes and just enjoyed the day, she was sure she could lose herself in nostalgia and bring herself back to a time before everything changed. But when she opened them the differences were clear. So many less people. So few of them going about a normal day or just enjoying their day off. And to be completely honest, she didn't want to dwell on the past. She was never the type to do so. Her goal was to always move forward.[break][break]
Elisande sighed and took another sip of her coffee as she looked around for another place to take a seat. There was a bench nearby that had a good view of the center of the park, and it was a bit more pleasing to look at then staring out into the city streets, but just as good for people watching. So she took another seat, almost finished coffee in hand, and resolved herself to make the most of her downtime. After today she was going back to her new "normal", and it wasn't exactly relaxing. Exciting? Sometimes. But never relaxing. Wes had become found of Los Angeles, or at least the version of it that ne now called home. He had heard from others that it wasn’t exactly the same, that structures and roads were different, that buildings had move, and that some had disappeared altogether. That the changes were made at the whim of Earth-chan.
Despite having nothing to compare it to--and despite thinking all of it seemed rather fine--Wes constantly wondered if a place he was visiting was an original, or an Earth-chan creation. This park for example, it looked nice and it was pretty centrally located, but was it a place where people had memories?
These thoughts danced around Wes’s mind as he strolled through, looking for the group he was supposed to meet. He had answered a post on a forum from a small group of players looking for one more to explore the area just outside of Los Angeles’s safe zone. The group was claimed to be low stress, and more importantly low risk. Their aim was to safely farm the weakest of monsters so they could get enough points t o afford to live. The post posited that maybe, eventually, they’d move on to more advanced areas, but Wes didn’t have much interest in that.
No, the only thing he wanted to do was learn how to survive, and that required him to get a little more used to his abilities. He walked the whole length of the party without spotting the group. He didn’t have much to go off of, but he hadn’t seen any set of three that remotely matched the description. They had told him to look for two guys and "a very pretty girl." He laughed to himself recalling the message, oh who could have described them like that.
He was about to message back and ask for a better description of them, when he spotted what was "a very pretty girl." If this is her, Wes thought, I’m going to be very annoyed because she is very pretty.
She was sitting by herself, which was not a match to the description, but Wes dreaded the idea of walking the length of the park once more. He gave her a forced smile and a little wave, "Hey there, are you part of the exploration party?"

Slowly but surely people were adjusting to their new lives, which was nice to see. Elisande couldn't help but wonder how many of the people she saw passing by had lived here before it all changed and how many were refugees. With Los Angeles being one of the world's few safe zones, she wouldn't be surprised if many were the latter.[break][break]
She was deeply lost in thought and absentmindedly taking the last sip of her coffee when she heard the voice call out to her. Elisande turned towards the newcomer with a bright smile on her face, brushing some of her hair behind her ear as she did so. "Exploration party?" She shook her head. "Sorry, this is the first I'm hearing of anything like that."[break][break]
She sighed softly. Another reminder that the world isn't as it once was, though a more pleasant one than some of the others. It was good to see people taking the initiative, and the idea of an exploration party was definitely a good one. "Are you supposed to be meeting someone here? I've been here most of the morning. "Oh!" a warm red brushed across Wes's face "sorry to bother you then." He appreciated that her response was more than just a flat no and dismissal like his most likely would have been. He admired those that could turn an unexpected conversation into an easy cadence-- he sincerely lacked that charm.
"I was supposed to meet someone" he smiled before he realized that he had very little information to describe the group he was looking for. "Oh this is going to sound terrible," he whispered almost to himself, before continuing much louder and actually toward the woman, "but I'm looking for a group of three, two men and a woman, who were supposed to be here."
Wes winced, an internal debate physically manifesting. "And the woman described herself as" he used air quotes, "a very pretty girl". He gave an awkward laugh, "And you're very pretty, so I figured it might be you, but saying that out loud kind of sounds like I'm a creep, and I also definitely don't think of you that way". He smiled, not initially understanding how insulting he may have sounded.
Once the realization kicked in, he fumbled to recover. "Not that you're not pretty! It's just, uh yeah, you know" he motioned a limp wrist.

She thought back through all of the people she had seen here so far today, trying to remember if any of them matched his description as he continued on. Two men and a woman. Had she seen any groups of three passing by? If she remembered correctly, there was one group that matched his description that had passed through a little while ago.[break][break]

Elisande couldn't help but chuckle softly as he then proceeded to fumble over his words. She was used to certain men finding themselves in a similar situation with her. The combination of beauty and kindness often caused shyer individuals to become flustered. Then, of course, there were the ones that recognized her from some of her more risqué modeling gigs. And to his point, a fair amount of them tended to be a bit creepy.[break][break]
This was different, though. It wasn't someone having their breath taken away, and it wasn't some guy she didn't know coming up to her and just relentless hitting on her. It was honestly just kind of adorable. A bit awkward perhaps, but adorable nonetheless. Even more so when he did his best to indicate that he wasn't trying to be offensive, but she was certainly not his type.[break][break]
To save him from any further embarrassment Elisande simply laughed it off and waved her hand. "It's fine. If that was the only description you were given, then I'm flattered, truly." "Hm..." Wes pondered as the woman spoke. His smile returned as she laughed off his awkwardness and answered his question in earnest. He turned to face the direction she mentioned the group had left. "Yes, I had traveled that way so it looks like I must have missed them... Can I join you?" he motioned to the bench and save for a declination, he would take a seat beside her.
Wes then called upon the System and sent out a quick message to the group: "Hey, where are ya'll?" He wouldn't wait for an answer. Rather, he dismissed the window and the System all together. He still wasn't used to it and though in many ways it operated similar to a phone, the semi-transparent messages appearing in thin air was a feature of Earth-Chan's World that Wes still found discomforting.
Instead of dwelling on the group, he sighed and rolled his head back in exasperation. He spoke, kind of to her, but each phrase was so heavily punctuated and his face so colored with thought that it was clear he was also just thinking out loud. "We were supposed to explore the area surrounding LA. So I cleared the rest of my day to meet with them. Not that I had many other plans, I don't really know anyone here. But I was looking forward to venturing out, even if it is just terrifying. But I can't go out there alone. And I don't know how I'll manage to get any points for things like food and living." He mumbled some other concerns, barely intelligible, and then ended his string of thoughts with a loud "urgh!"
He leaned forward, placing his face in his palms. Counting to himself, he took a couple of deep breaths before he tried to compose himself. He straightened his posture and more directly addressed the woman, "Sorry, I'm rambling. I promise I'm not typically this... disheveled. And forgive me, I didn't even introduce myself. I'm Wes."
