The Butcher's Masquerade An incredibly bloody butcher's apron and face mask (bandana) that are both seemingly made of leather. This apron can take the user's DEF +1 in damage before breaking and needing to regenerate [which takes two posts]. When dealing damage to an organic creature this armor builds up additional DEF for the round equal to your [PWR] if you break the creature's [DEF], you can instead remove the cooldown for this armor to regenerate if this effect would procc while the armor is broken.[break][break]

Halo of the Ascendant + Fractured Kingstone + Heretic’s Fallback [break] Halo Corrupted by the Void [Enchanted] [Forged] This once brilliant halo has been inverted into the opposite of light itself, an impossibly black ring that seems to have been simply carved into the space above your head. When worn, it boosts your WIL by +30%, and causes hostiles to cower in [fear] of you if their WIL is the same rank or lower than your own. Bosses and other powerful foes instead manifest this [fear] by refusing to approach or target you unless they have no other choice. [break][break]
While worn you are considered both a [Celestial] and [Demon], and may choose to be affected by abilities and effects that specify holy or unholy targets. You may gain black angelic wings at will, granting you the ability to fly up to a height of 3 meters per MAGI rank, moving at your SPD. In this winged form enemies within 20 meters of you will have their highest stat reduced by -25% if their WIL rank is not higher than your own. [break][break]
Once every three posts you may become infused with an unholy absence of light. Your attacks this post cause each target to suffer continuous unholy damage for three posts, taking your PWR -1 rank of damage each post. This status is only applied once to each target. While suffering from this effect the victims will not benefit from any newly applied buffs, or receive any healing, as your unholy aura repels them. [break][break]
Five times per thread you may summon a golden crown above the head of yourself or one ally within 20 meters, restoring 10% of their VIT every post for three posts. This effect can only be applied once per post, and cannot be applied again to a target already benefiting from it. While this effect is active, the target may choose to have their attacks and effects deal holy damage in addition to, or replacement of, any other types. [break][break]
Crown of Antlers + Armored Skull [break] Visage of the Horned God [Forged] This projection of the horned skull of some terrifying otherworldly beast can be summoned and dismissed at will, no longer requiring a space in your inventory when entering item limited threads. You walk at peace among mundane animals, who cease conflict and activity and respectfully bow when in your presence, seemingly understanding your speech and gestures. Even death caused by your hand will not dissuade them from remaining still or otherwise obeying your commands, although they are unable to attack or otherwise interfere in combat. [break][break]
You pass without trace, leaving no footprints or scent and making no sound to all mundane scenes. This [stealth] extends to superior senses and combat if your WIL is higher rank than the observer's own. In general, when every character present in a thread has posted, one round or turn has passed. This is usually only referenced when describing the abilities of staff created monsters when staff members are not directly controlling and posting for them. Players are expected to include descriptions of the monster attacking and using its abilities during their posts. [break][break]
Not having a staff created monster use all of its abilities in a realistic manner, as if the monster was doing its best to defeat you, is a good way to have staff retake control of the monster and increase it's power as punishment. It takes work to create a monster, from stats and abilities to pictures and posts, so please do not ignore the posted information and portray it as less threatening than how it was designed. [break][break]
Most effects last for a certain number of posts. This always includes the post when you activate the effect, unless specified otherwise. You continue to receive the benefit of such effects during the other characters' posts during that round. If you place an effect on another posting character/monster, it counts their posts instead of yours. If you place an effect on a staff created monster when staff is not directly controlling it, it counts your posts and lasts through the round. [break][break]
COMMON EFFECTS[attr="class","section flex"] [attr="class","labeltext"]

• Stealth: You are able to move without being detected until you attack or otherwise make your presence obvious. [break][break]
• Invisible: Similar to Stealth, with an emphasis on disappearing from view. You still make noise as normal unless you are careful. [break][break]
• Hidden: Stealth and Invisible on steroids. You are generally blocked from view by some effect, so even being directly viewed or heard does not mean you are detected. Almost impossible to detect if you do not move. Still breaks on attacks or particularly obvious maneuvers. [break][break]
• Concealed: Similar to Hidden in most ways, although this is more like personal camouflage that helps you blend in with your surroundings. [break][break]
• Obscured: You're visible and unhidden, but your form is difficult to fully make out for some reason. You can't be the target of ranged attacks unless the attack’s damage is higher rank than your [SPD], although you can be hit by area attacks as normal. Melee attacks miss if your [SPD] is the same rank as the attacker’s [SPD]. [break][break]
• Prone: You have been knocked to the ground. Normally reduces your movement SPD by -50% for one post as you waste time and effort getting back to your feet. [break][break]
• Hindered: Your movement SPD is lowered, usually by harsh terrain. This is normally a -50% reduction. Flight and other movement abilities usually ignore this unless the Hindering effect specifies otherwise. [break][break]
• Paralyzed: You are held in place and unable to move, although you can usually still attack and defend yourself. [break][break]
• Stunned: You are unable to move or attack. [break][break]
• Charmed: You are unable to directly attack whatever has charmed you, although this effect always breaks if the Charmer attacks you. You will generally not attack your allies unless specified. [break][break]

Items, abilities, and skills may be able to absorb damage before it can reach a target. These usually say something like 'blocks damage up to DEF rank'. [break][break]
Simply enough, they absorb up to the rank of damage listed. For example, if a B rank attack hit a C rank shield, it would absorb 1 of the C ranks making up the B rank, and leave 1 C rank behind to hit the target directly. [break][break]
Attacks of a lower rank than protective equipment can stack towards breaking it, but only per round. If you make a C rank attack vs B rank armor, it won't break, but if your ally then makes another C rank attack, it will, letting any further attacks bypass that armor for the rest of that round. Next round, it'll require another B rank worth of damage![break][break]

04 [attr="class","maintext"] Target DEF - DEFENSE BREAK [break][break] Once an attack breaks through any reduction or armor, it encounters the target's DEF stat itself. Like with armor, to break DEF you must deal damage equal to their DEF rank within one round of posting.[break][break] Once the DEF is broken by an attack, it will trigger [defense break]. Any remaining damage from an attack that broke the DEF will carry over and interact with VIT as normal. [break][break] Then, the target will have a one round cooldown where they have no natural DEF. Any attacks dealt to a target with [defence break] will hit their VIT directly. After one round of [defense break], their DEF returns to normal, and the process can repeat. [break][break] - DEF is where Anchor match-ups start coming into play. If an attack has an Anchor that's strong against yours, its treated as 1 rank higher during this part of calculation. eg, a C rank attack from a GIFT class vs a SHELTER class will be treated as a C Rank attack in the armor step, but bumped up to B rank during DEF calculation.
- For attacks of the same rank, DEF can withstand 1x equal rank attacks e.g. B Rank DEF will break after 1 B Rank attack.
- DEF requires 2 instances of damage from 1 rank lower before it breaks.
- DEF will break if it is hit by an attack of higher rank, and the damage will continue over to VIT.
- Attacks labelled as [basic attacks] always deal damage at one rank lower to a target’s natural DEF stat, unless otherwise specified by a class ability.
- DoTs damage VIT directly, unless otherwise stated by class feats etc.

VIT is a player's HP, and equates to the number of times they can get hit before being downed. A player can be downed by any rank of damage, it just varies on the amount of times they have been hit by said rank. Just like with DEF calculation, if an attack has an Anchor that's strong against yours, its treated as 1 rank higher during this part of calculation[break][break] A player can be downed after taking... - 6x attacks of two ranks lower.
- 4x attacks of one rank lower.
- 2x attacks of the same rank + any rank of damage after that.
- 1x attack of one rank higher + any rank of damage after that.
- 1x attack of two or more ranks higher.

Once an attack has broken through any reduction or armor, it encounters the target's DEF stat itself. You compare the DEF rank against the remaining attack rank exactly as in the earlier step. A target's personal DEF stat is never broken or ignored, and always absorbs damage before the target's VIT, unless the damage is [piercing] or other specific effects are involved. [break][break]
For example, if a 3x C rank attack hit a B rank DEF, it would count as hitting/damaging the target, but not deal any actual VIT damage. It would probably still hurt! [break][break]
If a B rank attack hit C rank DEF, it only loses 1/4 of its power, dealing 3x C rank damage to the target's VIT. [break][break]

VIT Damage [break][break]
Taking damage to VIT is the final step of the attack process. Every rank has the same imaginary four 'chunks' that make it up, which you can consider your HP. When a target loses the final four 'negative rank' chunks that make up F rank VIT, they are defeated. Monsters disappear, and characters die. You're going to want to avoid that! [break][break]
Losing this VIT 'HP' doesn't lower your VIT rank when used in any other calculations. [break][break]
For example, if you have B rank VIT and take C rank damage past all your armor and DEF, you drop to 3/4 B rank. Or 3x C rank. Or 19/20 HP. [break][break]
If you have C rank VIT and take B rank damage to your VIT, you are dead. This is why it's not a good idea to ignore DEF and armor.

Quietus Journal This thin black notebook is marked with a large silver Q on the cover. Somehow it never seems to run out of pages, and acts as a mundane journal in most situations. Having this in your possession boosts your MAGI by +10% and allows you to see a target's full name as recorded by the system. After writing your own name or a currently visible target's name in the journal, on your next post you may cause one of two effects to trigger. Either the chosen target takes your MAGI rank in cursed damage if their WIL is the same rank or lower than your MAGI, or they heal for 10% of your VIT. [break][break]
You may write one name in the journal per post, but may cause only one effect to trigger each post. All names written remain in the journal, but you lose access to these effects at the end the thread in which they were written, and must spend a post writing them down again to target them with these effects.
