“Welcome to the Riddler’s!” an uncanny, cheerfully voice echoed through the inappropriately, but all too bright, store. “We buy and sell not with money, but your worth!”[break][break]

Ygdra closed the door behind him and turned to face no one. By the sounds of it, he couldn’t exactly pinpoint the location of the voice but he didn’t know whether it was due to a skill or some other reason.[break][break]

“~ Over here my sweet customer!” This time the voice was coming from his right side. Very close to his ear. Ygdra didn’t jump back at the invasion of his personal space, but he did give the creature a blank stare. ¨Customer?”[break][break]

“Oh, apologies.” Ygdra regarded the owner of the shop with a blank look and then smiled. “It seems like you’ve caught me by surprise. How embarrassing...”[break][break]

The new character looked like the stereotypical middle aged Englishman, but from a time long forgotten by man. He wore a disproportionately large top hat, a green tuxedo with bedazzled question marks, but the most striking feature of the man was his blank face. He had no hair or showed any skin since his hands were covered with thin, silk gloves and wore very stylish leather shoes. His blazer had emerald green buttons with a gold question mark in the middle.[break][break]

“~No, no! No need to be embarrassed, my dear customer! Yours truly simply has better taste in clothes and this is a mere fact!” He twirled and posed extravagantly, showing off his rather slender legs and long arms. Ygdra noted that, if anything, he was a walking stick elegantly dressed in fancy clothes.[break][break]

“Yes, I do agree that your clothes look quite expensive.” Ygdra nodded forcefully. Seemed like the owner was a rather difficult person. Was this deja vu that he was experiencing? How alienating… “ But I’m here for information. Might you have any idea on how to access the Forge or an item that might allow me to do so? I’m quite new andㅡ”[break][break]

“Ah, yes! The elusive and wonderful Forge!” The strange man interrupted with a song of merriment. “I, the Riiiidddleeeer! Have the information you seek! But as I mentioned, if you paid attention, I sell not in money, but in woooorth!”[break][break]

He hopped up the stairs and into the second floor, tugging on a rope that let down a rather elaborate poster of a green question mark, hanging off the guard rails. “Now, are you worth anything at all?”[break][break]

Ygdra felt a sense of foreboding. First and foremost, he could not identify the man at all and without a facial expression, he could not tell his intentions, his thoughts or his purposes. The voice subtly reminded him of his true self in a way and wondered if the Riddler, as he called himself, was doing it on purpose.[break][break]

But this sense of danger only added to his anticipation of a wonderful time. “I am worth every bit of knowledge I have gained. You could say wisdom is my currency. How about I sell that?”[break][break]

The Riddler paused and rested his black, empty face on his hand. Ygdra could see a smile from in the absence of his face.[break][break]

“Bet.”

“~Always a pleasure!” Ygdra smiled back at Mr. Beast as the entire room shifted back to its previous form. A pop message alerted him of his rewards and he was rather elated that his MAGI wasn’t so mundane any more. “~ I look forward to our next session, Mr. Beast!”[break][break]

It was a more pleasant surprise when Ragline ran up to Ygdra and raised its paws at him, like a cute little kitty that wanted attention. He gasped and crouched down to give Ragline the high four. It looked so adorable that Ygdra almost wanted to devour the creature right there and then, but stopped himself. They did just end on a wonderful, note after all. [break][break]

Ygdra accepted the guild pamphlet gracefully, and regarded it with a child-like curiosity, turning it around back and forth. “ Peace is always a wonderful idea to maintain…” He commented with a small smile. The idea itself never agreed with him, since the kind of lifestyle he required to satisfy his curiosity would always disrupt peace. But he wouldn’t mind helping Utopia achieve its goals if it meant he could hide under their light. [break][break]

“I shall take your offer in consideration, Mr. Beast. See you both in the next session!” [break][break]

And with that he promptly left the premises, waving goodbye as he did.

“Faith, was it?” Ygdra commented as he stood up from beneath the roots of the tree, dusting off the dirt and leaves stuck to his bottom. “ Nice to meet you. I’m Ygdra Elder, but please call me Yggy for the duration of this mission.” [break][break]

He gave Faith his very customer service smile, a combination of airheadedness and goofiness that often told people he meant no harm. There was something to be said about small girls alone, traveling in the middle of the woods that reminded Ygdra of certain tales, mostly western lore, about teaching young ones about caution and whatnot. But one look at Faith, and Ygdra instinctively knew that anyone should be weary of her instead of the other way round. The naturalist in him told him that Faith was more predator than prey, and her looks were very much deceitful. This mission is going to be fun, he thought to himself. [break][break]

Her question broke his meandering thoughts. “How much do I know about bugs, you ask…?” [break][break]

Ygdra’s face broke into a pensive look. Of course, he knew about bugs but he wondered why it was important to Faith that he should know about that. “I know a thing or two about our little invertebrate friends. You see, I was a naturalist before this whole thing happened. Now I need to get back into the habit, even if that habit is a dangerous one.” [break][break]

He sighed as if he was shouldering the heaviest load in the world but extended a hand to Faith. “It should be fun working with you. I have faith we shall succeed in this endeavor.” He gave the girl a wink to ensure that the pun was very much intended, and that for the foreseeable future, many more religious puns would rain down upon them. “But I do believe you’re here precisely due to the bug at hand. We don’t have much information regarding its ecology and that is why we’re here. I do hope you like getting your hands dirty because sadly, I don’t have much fire power behind this frail old body of mine.” [break][break]

This was Ygdra’s way of letting Faith know that she would be doing much of the grunt work. Many would say that a 35 year old man letting a girl much younger than him do all the work was tyrannical, but Ygdra was nothing but manipulative. Letting people do all the work was literally in his genes. [break][break]

Ygdra was rather happy that Mr. Beast had such a positive attitude and while he shared his own two cents about his own subclass, he wondered how long his optimism could last and what would become of this beacon of light if it ever raptured in a fit of anger. His smile grew wider into a laugh that his eyes shared as he walked away from him to approach the table. He nodded as he absorbed the glutes bouncing away from him, giving him a wider picture. [break][break]

“He truly is a piece of work…” Ygdra commented to himself. But at the very least, he could trust Mr. Beast to keep some of this information to himself. Letting others know that you were completely vulnerable made for a short lifespan. “But he is mine. So it’s fine.” [break][break]

He walked over just to stand behind Mr. Beast, where it was decided that he would now demonstrate how his muscles worked, or the long weapon that Ygdra would eventually use for the consideration of this training. Magi was the one stat that he chose simply because he wanted to see how much of the world he could change but the way that Mr. Beast described his “creative mind” made him blush a little bit. Who knew a man of his age could feel like a highschool girl? [break][break]

Ygdra’s attention was drawn to the very beautiful, exquisite, black javelin. It was a standard size spear with no added embellishments but the way that Mr.Beast handled the weapon it seemed to be more than just a single use long range weapon. He clapped when his trainer shot the Javelin at a floating, nondescript golem and his eyes widened as it shot through the golem, knocking it off the air, and on the ground. Surprisingly, a small tug from Mr. Beast revealed a thin thread that he could barely see allowed him to pull back the javelin without much resistance. [break][break]

“I see, I see… that’s a rather useful function.” He commented passively, his mind already turning over the many ways he could use this. [break][break]

But Mr. Beast wasn’t done yet. After retrieving the javelin from the dummy, he threw it at a wooden beam just above them, and doing the same motion, he managed to rise into the air. Considering Mr. Beast’s weight and size, this was a feat in and of itself. He could already envision how to use the weapon though he felt a little uncomfortable since he wasn’t much of a physical attributes man. He was here after to train his Magi stat. His suggestion to use traps and whatnot was right on the money though. While the main function was to use the javelin for poke and stab, the wire itself was far more dangerous. [break][break]

When Mr. Beast threw the javelin at Ygdra, he struggled to catch it but to prevent any embarrassment, he ended up hugging the weapon. He also threw in a pendant with a beautiful cyan jewel encrusted within the main piece. It refracted a strange blue glow and Ygdra had to hold it up above his head to admire it. But his session was cut short. [break][break]

“Wait, we start now? Just like that? O-Oh, alright!” Mr. Beast had a tendency to simply throw you into the lion’s den but it didn’t exactly throw Ygdra off guard. He just assumed this was the right reaction to someone just telling you to do something. He had gotten the same reaction from others and was aware of its consequences. But Mr. Beast’s shirt ripping off again did catch him off guard. [break][break]

Was this what they call fan service? [break][break]

“I don’t know Mr. Beast! Maybe you could stretch something other than my brain after this?” He winked at Mr. Beast but did not wait for a reply. The timer had set off after all. Now, the targets in question for this massacre were two groups of golems. [break][break]

Considering he wasn’t very fast, Ygdra threw the javelin towards one of the golems on the left side. If the string could be used to retrieve someone as big as Mr. Beast, if the javelin was securely locked, then the end result would be Ygdra getting flung towards the target. He waved at Mr Beast good bye while everything became blurry. He held on to his fedora hat as he landed feet first on the chest of the golem right in the middle of the group of five on the left. The javelin had thrust through the head and slammed it down the floor and Ygdra rose triumphantly from ground, with the glare of a predator right in the middle of the hunt. [break][break]

Of course, Ygdra was much into physical movement so using the javelin to stab each of the golems or attacking two or three at a time was such a waste. The aim here was to get as many golems with the least amount of attacks. While the weapon was securely embedded on the ground, the pendant on his neck began to glow eerily. While examining the pendant, a message had popped up informing him that the necklace wasn’t just a wedding proposal but also had an effect of converting whatever he considered a weapon into a form of laser. Although Ygdra had a problem with how the system worded the effects of its abilities, being vague actually worked in his favor. That being the javelin not only being the weapon he could use… but also the string. [break][break]

Using the javelin as the epicenter, Ygdra pulled the string as far as it could go while maneuvering through the golems, ensuring that the string coiled around as many golems of the first group as possible. Sure Ygdra was slow, but he had keen eyesight and a strategy at hand. The moment where he was sure the first group had been tangled enough he activated the pendant’s ability. The javelin flashed a light blue light, and heard a burning, searing sound which told him the first one had been securely destroyed. The light traveled quite fast along the string and as soon as it did, it sliced through their wooden flesh like cheese. He would proceed to do the same treatment to the other golems, though by this point, Ygdra had lost track of time. [break][break]

Mr Beast would have to signal him to stop.

Ygdra really wanted to pet Ragline but after a split second, all he really wanted to do was pet… something else entirely. The beast skedaddled outside the premises of the training room but surprisingly, it wasn’t completely ousted when Mr. Beast triggered the start of the training regimen. It got him curious but shelved the idea for now. He had better, chunkier things to focus on as of the moment. [break][break]

He had a wide smile as Mr.Beast spoke on, absorbing every bit of the man’s essence. “And I’m forever hopeful you stay available.” [break][break]

Moreover, Ygdra also got to experience the joys of having the system reconstruct the surroundings while he was still within the parameters. He always wondered how such a semi-sentient construct knew which places to avoid and what to change? He’d have to shelve this idea too and focus at hand. The new outfit of the gym was something that he was familiar with as it was not too different with the design of his previous training session, but noticeably, the amount of paraphernalia concerned with the training increased. There were more weapons and items to choose from, and he took a second to admire them all while Mr. Beast posed his rather important question. [break][break]

For a moment, he felt elated that Mr. Beast wanted to know more about him but then realized that he’d have to leave himself some kind of vulnerable. Perhaps he’d just graze the tip of the iceberg. [break][break]

“More about my class, you say? I see.” He feigned a little hesitation by placing a hand on his chin, as if to contemplate the meaning of life. “ I shall trust you, Mr. Beast! Please swear on Ragline that this is just between the two of us…” [break][break]

Ygdra used this moment to get close enough to his pecs and looked up at his silly face analogous to his god-like body. “You see, my class is one that tampers with the law of nature and as such I have close to nil offensive abilities.” He sighed, letting his breath touch his barely clothed skin. “ I do have wonderful abilities, and I can incite change that would require years of evolution or even surpass the Forge in that regard, but their cost is too big and the requirements to use them can be life threatening.” He let out another, heavier sigh. “As it stands, it may be a while before I can be of use…”[break][break]
