Ygdra’s trip to his house had been less than eventful, if not for that last mysterious incident that had him on all the cardio he was willing to do for the rest of his life. Granted, the incident had failed to deter him from ever coming back and he would have to prepare to confront whatever had decided to take residence on his own territory. Sadly, Ygdra’s level left him grossly underleveled and his class had him unqualified for the task.[break][break]
But it was not extermination nor subjugation that would be the task, but rather, capturing, considering that it was now his home and his house, the monster’s nest was his nest. The question now would be the howdunnit. [break][break]
London hadn’t changed much over the last years, and even in his absence, a drab cloud that always threatened to downpour refused to let go and let even a small dash of sunlight from making the citizens a little less gloomy.
The part of London he’d be perusing was an older part of the city that had survived much of the transgressions that occurred during the end of the world. It was a long street that was riddled with stores along each side of the road, and from antiques and services, they had adapted to what the new system had to offer, and what had been considered folklore and myth, could now be found in a store that sold nicknacks. Ygdra could tell the sun was setting down as the coldness that normally haunted London became colder and colder. He pulled his hakama closer to his skin and rubbed his shoulders to lend them some warmth. There weren’t many souls on the street at this hour since people had learned that it did not go well after sunset. Anywhere outside the safe zones at this hour was riskier than anyone was willing to risk. His sandals echoed with each step. The street lamps began to wake at this hour, and their glow only seemed to offer a fake sense of relief. The signs of each store lent their own multicolored visual to the bleak streets of London and Ygdra took his own time to briefly window shop before moving on to the next store. [break][break]
After getting a hold of what the system had recognized as material for the Forge, perhaps there could be something useful within these stores that could help him tame the mysterious creature within his home. [break][break]
The first store that caught his fancy was a store called The Riddler’s and had a green store with a question mark printed on the door. Despite the glass windows, he couldn’t see anything inside. [break][break]
“How curious…” Ygdra commented as he turned the knob of the door and went inside. “Curious indeed!”

“Welcome to the Riddler’s!” an uncanny, cheerfully voice echoed through the inappropriately, but all too bright, store. “We buy and sell not with money, but your worth!”[break][break]
Ygdra closed the door behind him and turned to face no one. By the sounds of it, he couldn’t exactly pinpoint the location of the voice but he didn’t know whether it was due to a skill or some other reason.[break][break]
“~ Over here my sweet customer!” This time the voice was coming from his right side. Very close to his ear. Ygdra didn’t jump back at the invasion of his personal space, but he did give the creature a blank stare. ¨Customer?”[break][break]
“Oh, apologies.” Ygdra regarded the owner of the shop with a blank look and then smiled. “It seems like you’ve caught me by surprise. How embarrassing...”[break][break]
The new character looked like the stereotypical middle aged Englishman, but from a time long forgotten by man. He wore a disproportionately large top hat, a green tuxedo with bedazzled question marks, but the most striking feature of the man was his blank face. He had no hair or showed any skin since his hands were covered with thin, silk gloves and wore very stylish leather shoes. His blazer had emerald green buttons with a gold question mark in the middle.[break][break]
“~No, no! No need to be embarrassed, my dear customer! Yours truly simply has better taste in clothes and this is a mere fact!” He twirled and posed extravagantly, showing off his rather slender legs and long arms. Ygdra noted that, if anything, he was a walking stick elegantly dressed in fancy clothes.[break][break]
“Yes, I do agree that your clothes look quite expensive.” Ygdra nodded forcefully. Seemed like the owner was a rather difficult person. Was this deja vu that he was experiencing? How alienating… “ But I’m here for information. Might you have any idea on how to access the Forge or an item that might allow me to do so? I’m quite new andㅡ”[break][break]
“Ah, yes! The elusive and wonderful Forge!” The strange man interrupted with a song of merriment. “I, the Riiiidddleeeer! Have the information you seek! But as I mentioned, if you paid attention, I sell not in money, but in woooorth!”[break][break]
He hopped up the stairs and into the second floor, tugging on a rope that let down a rather elaborate poster of a green question mark, hanging off the guard rails. “Now, are you worth anything at all?”[break][break]
Ygdra felt a sense of foreboding. First and foremost, he could not identify the man at all and without a facial expression, he could not tell his intentions, his thoughts or his purposes. The voice subtly reminded him of his true self in a way and wondered if the Riddler, as he called himself, was doing it on purpose.[break][break]
But this sense of danger only added to his anticipation of a wonderful time. “I am worth every bit of knowledge I have gained. You could say wisdom is my currency. How about I sell that?”[break][break]
The Riddler paused and rested his black, empty face on his hand. Ygdra could see a smile from in the absence of his face.[break][break]

Ygdra watched in fascination as the entire room suddenly swirled in a whirlpool of colors, twisting the fabric of his perception until it got too much for his eyesight. He briefly closed his eyes but when he opened them the storm of colors were gone, and he was met with pitch blackness. He moved his hands and feet and he could feel their presence, but it also felt like he was moving phantom limbs. All of a sudden, a bright line cast from above dispelled the darkness, yet he still couldn’t see further than the light. Right in front of him, was a green podium decorated with golden question marks here and there. The only button on top of the podium was black and had a golden question mark on it. [break][break]
“Are you… curious?” A voice echoed from the void. “Perhaps… interested?!” [break][break]
“Possibly. I’d be far more curious about this Q&A we’re having.” Ygdra responded evenly. “Ask away.”[break][break]
A sonorous laughter echoed through the still darkness. “My, oh my. Aren’t we in a rush? Fine, fine. I’ll spare you the details and get right on to it.”[break][break]
A little panic escaped Ygdra’s voice. “What details are一”[break][break]
“For today’s topic, we’ll be discussing the dumbest ways to die!”[break][break]
Ygdra sighed. It was rather difficult to be in a position of lesser power, which is why he needed to climb up ranks as soon as possible. The topic at hand made his right eyebrow shoot up. “How will that test my IQ, pray tell?”[break][break]
The voice clicked its tongue. “Nuh-uh. I ask the questions here and you answer, my dear customer. So here we go!”[break][break]
There was a moment of silence before a much deeper, booming voice echoed in his head. The question was rather simple for the very first round but Ygdra was grateful that the pressure in his head was gone. “Depending on the height of the fall and the mass of the body, certain death is ensured. From deceleration and the sudden impact would cause…” Ygdra’s voice gave away as a weird sensation overcame his body, like a sudden imbalance of a kin to a fall. “ Excuse me. The impact would cause intense vibrations that may break cellular tissue, rupturing the body and organs conseー” His body lurched and he dropped to his knees, one arm on the podium for support. Droplets of sweat trickled down his head, covering his clothes, as if he’d done any type of physical activity. More importantly, the searing pain that blazed across his body was amazing and even though he remained silent, his body was screaming for relief. Ygdra clenched his jaws so tight, he bit his lower lip, drawing blood that trickled down his chin. Ygdra’s gaze remained cold and unyielding, but now he understood the game. After a few seconds, the pain subsided and he felt every muscle in his fiber loosen up. [break][break]

The proceeding drum roll was nothing like Ygdra had heard before, and as he didn’t like unnecessary noise, the added fact that the pressure on his head was as if 20 elephants were sitting on him. With each thump, the searing pain in his skull became louder and louder. Ygdra had not realized the strength he was putting in his grip. He was not dry yet from the previous endeavor. [break][break]

He truly brought the worst this time, Ygdra thought to himself, overwhelmed by the searing pain in his behind. The old man didn’t even have time to register the signs but the tapeworm had already grown to a rather massive size, and it was nearing the moment where he would have to give birth to it.[break][break]
With one, if not several, infernal screams Ygdra felt the sizable worm finally leave the canals of his behind but he could not see his marvelous creation wiggle its way into the darkness. Is this what giving birth feels like? I’m glad I wasn’t born a woman, Ygdra thought to himself, too weak to make the commentary out loud. [break][break]

In contrast, the old man was a little happy but tired; his consciousness had never experienced such stimuli before and while his body screamed for that respite his scientific soul was in ecstasy. It was rather strange to experience a dysfunction between his body and his mind. This would have to be something that he could work in his experiment. [break][break]
It took him a while before he could support himself and though he did, it took all his strength not to buckle down again. He heard the voice sigh and chuckle at his struggle. If they weren’t trying to ruin each other, Ygdra thought they might very well become friends. [break][break]
“How many questions do I have left? I’ve lost count…” He took a gasping breath, his throat somewhat dry. “ from the fun I’m having.”[break][break]
Mr. Riddler let out a maniacal laugh. “You and I both! Maybe we could do this forever?”[break][break]
Ygdra sighed. “Maybe some other time. Got places to be, things to do…”[break][break]
“Well, there is only one question left! Then maybe you’ll get the answers you seek!”[break][break]
There was a long silence following Mr. Riddler’s final challenge. Far too long a silence for Ygdra’s liking but as soon as he relaxed a little bit, it was then that he felt that same sinking sensation. “Not the dumbest way to die, but certainly creative! What was Ancient Persias’ most preferred method of execution?”[break][break]
Ygdra thought about this carefully as he wasn't an expert on history or ancient literature. Sure enough, there was something in the books he had read so far that could help him. “Let’s see… is it something about a boat? No wait, it was The Boat! Now, I remember you were fed milk and honey in a boat and then…” He felt his stomach rumble, as if in protest and proclamation of what was to come. Slowly, his sense of taste was being overwhelmed by a sickening sweetness that was thick and lucious. Ygdra looked down as his stomach began to expand larger and bigger, as if his last comment about being pregnant had been heard, and now the universe, or the system, was playing a joke on him. [break][break]
“... and they all sailed happily ever after?” Ygdra quickly finished, hoping that he had answered enough questions and to disrupt whatever reality manipulating magic the Riddler was doing. Sadly, Ygdra’s stomach did not stop expanding. He felt the pressure of his innards as they pressed against his bones and skin but more importantly he felt a secondary movement. In what seemed fitting for a horror show, his body burst like a pimple, but instead of blood, it was something akin for feces, splattering everywhere with all manner of scavenger bug crawling out of his stomach lining. Ygdra did his best to grin and bare it but by the time he could register it, he had fainted.

When Ygdra came to, he woke up with a splitting headache and a chill to the bone. How long had it been since he had slept this long? He wondered to himself. As he rubbed his eyes to get the drowsiness off of them, he noticed the warmth of the morning sun dispel the aches of his body. Then, he realized something. [break][break]
His head snapped left and right searching for any signs of the Riddler, and simultaneously copping his body. There was the distinct horrific memory of his demise by way of explosion but his body was as fit and healthy as ever. Ygdra’s vision cleared out and saw that the shop where the mysterious and charming Riddler was located, was replaced by a run down book store. [break][break]
But on his lap he had received several books about a place called Ender Island, and other books related to Motor City and Devil’s Triangle. Each book was signed by the Riddler.[break][break]
