Hana was starting to worry about this pickup truck she'd been using around town. It seemed a little off in some way. But, she wasn't exactly experienced enough to know how much of a problem this was. Ollie had made sure she knew how to acquire more fuel for it and get that into the tank, but that was about as far as her expertise extended.

It wasn't like she could just drive it to an auto shop either. Even if there was one around, where would they get new parts? Maybe salvage them from all the stalled vehicles? But, you had to have the exact same type of truck then, right? Hana wasn't really sure how compatible things were. Would Earth-chan sell and create new parts? It would probably turn this plain brown truck into some sort of cartoon vehicle with turbo boosts and spiked wheels, and Hana didn't really want that.

For the moment, Hana was simply sitting in the driver's seat of the truck with the engine off, reading the manual she'd found in the glove compartment. It wasn't very helpful, honestly. Or very interesting. She could always abandon the truck and look for another, like when she'd found that cool van. But the truck had already come in handy a few times, and she felt some strange sense of loyalty to the beat up old thing.

"Uh, well, you're not on the road, so I don't think I'd run you over, no." Hana blinked at the strange question. She didn't seem like that bad of a driver, did she? This girl in the raincoat reminded her of Corsen. But more talkative. Which wasn't a high bar to clear.

"Um, hello! I'm Hana, and-" She was cut off as Natalya questioned her. "...well, not if you don't want to? I was just on my way back to the Safe Zone in LA, and I saw you were both headed what way, so..." This wasn't exactly how Hana had expected this conversation to go.

And then, a voice from the other (non-coastal) side of the truck made her turn to look across the passenger's seat to the new arrival. "Huh? Um, sure! The more the merrier, right?" She beamed happily at the request. This was more in line with what she'd expected. "The door's unlocked." The passenger's side window of the brown pickup truck was also broken, so there wasn't much stopping her from getting in anyway.

After that, Hana turned to look through her open window at Noelle and Natalya. "Well, if you want a ride to LA, I guess the back of the truck is still available! Oh, I can play us some music, too!"

"Well this is fun. Isn't this fun?" Hana was all smiles as she navigated the twisting road to the small town she'd discovered during one of her earliest exploration attempts. Then teen was in the driver's seat of the airbrushed van she'd acquired for their trip, while her two (three, counting Orion) traveling companions had their choice of seats in the spacious interior.

The musician was definitely getting as much use out of that free license as possible. Maybe part of it was the thrill of doing something she technically shouldn't be allowed to do at her age. Or maybe it just made her feel more useful. "Everybody comfy? We're almost there!" She had to slow down a bit, now, as the road began to be partially destroyed by the encroaching mountain. Hana wasn't sure, but it seemed like a bit more of the road and town had disappeared into the landscape than when they were here last.

Soon enough, Hana and Emir began to recognize sights in the distance. A partially buried convenience store. A liquor store with busted windows, debris piled up around its walls. "I should probably park around here, so that bird doesn't attack our ride back. I would hate for it to mess up this van's pretty painting." The illustration of a wizard riding an unicorn and wielding a keytar might not be as appreciated by the others, but Hana seemed to like it.

Hana frowned at the thought. "I won't believe that this is a different world. It's still the same, underneath all the changes. My..." She trailed off, shaking her head. "We can make it safe again, everywhere. Someday." The teen's melancholy didn't last for long, as she perked back up once Nell announced her departure. "W-wait, we should exchange info first!"

Nell received a friend request through the system menu, and so did Aliyah a moment later. "I'll talk to Emir about setting up a party then! Um. Tomorrow, or in a few days. It's getting kinda late." Her guitar disappeared into storage as Hana gave Aliyah and her corvid companion a bow, before a timer appeared above her head, counting down to her disappearance back to the nearest Safe Zone. "Oh, I can take you back to town too, if you want." She pointed to the status icon after a moment.

Hana was getting pretty good at this driving thing, she thought. Or maybe she was just getting used to this particular pickup? It was certainly easier to drive than the tractor. She didn't really think of it as 'her' truck, but she'd used it a few times while near LA. She kept the key in her inventory, but it wasn't like she bothered to lock the doors, since one of the windows was broken. There just weren't many people properly licensed to drive vehicles, so she wasn't really worried it would disappear.

"Maybe I should do another box delivery while I'm here?" Hana thought out loud to herself, while enjoying the scenery and working on her driving skills. It was much easier out here, away from the city, without so many stalled cars or fallen buildings. The ocean to one side not only looked nice, but made navigation much more relaxed than following the system's directions.

The site of one small figure walking along the coast caught her attention, but only caused her to slow down. Spotting a second, similarly short person around the next curve brought her to a stop. Hana wasn't quite sure what to do for a moment.

Eventually she put the truck in park, honked the horn, and leaned out of the window to wave to the two travelers, smiling brightly. Although it seemed like the two each wouldn't realize the other was there until they approached the truck and left the obstructing bit of landscape behind.

The teen looked upwards as she tried to remember, but no names were materializing. Shaking her head, she returned to the current conversation. "Oh, I assumed it was The Light. As the ambushing devil was defeated, it vanished in a puff of sulphureous smoke, leaving behind an empty bathrobe. And one bright red eye that lazily rolled away from the pile of clothing. It looked almost artificial, more mineral than anything organic. Although it did give off a faint warmth.

While the hastily provided map had marked what were likely two hostiles in the first room on the Women's side, the Men's side had gone unexplored. Although that was definitely where all the commotion had come from. There were probably devils there to guard the locker room on the other side of the curtain as well. But they'd definitely know to expect more intruders.

Meanwhile, since she could at least move her hands, Hana was keeping busy investigating the system menu. All of her abilities and skills had been replaced with things like [Imp Press] and [Imp Lie]. None of them seemed especially useful in this situation. The teen wasn't even sure she'd be allowed to use them on the devils...who still had her more or less surrounded. At least they all seemed to be ignoring her and going about their bath-related business.

Busy staring at the popup in front of her face, Hana seemed oblivious to the bright red shade her skin was turning, working downwards from those new horns. She didn't notice until it reached her hands, pausing while poking at a menu, before looking over her arms in confusion. Another glance at the room-spanning mirror confirmed that she was steadily being repainted to match the various devils inhabiting the bathhouse.

"You don't count the mummies, Summer?" Hana didn't play that many games, but they were usually called undead, right? She just peered at Summer for a moment, before turning back to Corsen when she spoke up again. Hana couldn't help but smile as their new acquaintance steadily became more talkative. "Oh, I haven't seen one of those since I was little! Wow..." She thought everyone had upgraded by now.

Hana just nodded along as Corsen continued. "Well, you're in luck! I was looking for CDs too! There's no way to, like, download stuff anymore, so unless we find a phone or laptop with everything already stored, they're not that useful." She held out her hand as a tablet with a large Earth-chan logo appeared. "This thing has all the programs to play movies and shows, but nothing downloaded. At least I can take notes with it."

The device disappeared as Hana pointed down the street. "Two blocks away is a used electronics store I saw a few years ago. Hopefully it's still there. It should have old games and CDs...if everyone else didn't already have the same idea and pick it over." The city seemed in strangely good shape at the moment, so they probably didn't have to worry too much about that.

"You can join our party if you want, Corsen. It's usually safer that way, but...up to you!" With another smile, she pulled up a menu and rotated it towards the new face, leaving it floating in front of Corsen as Hana moved to the street to ensure she'd pointed the right direction. Hana had just about made up her mind on where to start when someone spoke up, interrupting her silent pondering. "Huh? Oh! Um, well it's supposed to dispense as much water as we need to put out the fires, but..." She lifted it up, peering down into the currently empty bucket. "...I haven't tested it out yet." Lowering the tool she'd been provided, Hana looked over the stranger, glancing between her and the nearby buildings.

"They didn't give you one? Or...are you not on that mission?" She wouldn't be the only onlooker simply here to watch the building burn, it seemed. Hana cautiously returned that smile, even if the stranger's didn't seem all that friendly.

The next person to arrive flashed a slightly more genuine smile, so Hana's beamed brighter in return. This one also seemed to understand the way the world worked a bit better. "Oh! You are on the same mission after all. That's good. We can work together!"

Hana gave the pair a quick bob of a bow. "It's nice to meet you, Miss Rose, uh...Miss Mar." She stumbled slightly over the name she assumed she'd only heard part of. "My name's Hana. Do you want to set up a party, too? I don't think we'll run into much trouble, but most buffs and stuff seem to only work if you're in a party together." She dutifully pulled up the system menu to display an open party invitation the two should be able to accept, while smoke continued to lazily stream from the nearby building.

That would be a nice change, Hana thought. That's how she wound up standing in front of what seemed to be a strip mall, that just happened to have smoke streaming from several of its windows. While holding a large plastic bucket in one hand. [break][break] It didn't even come with any water! Although the people that had given her the mission had assured her it would infinitely refill, once conditions were right. Hopefully that wouldn't be a problem. However, there were several more issues to deal with. How would she safely get in and out? Which one of the multiple quietly smoldering stores should she attempt to extinguish first? [break][break] Also, why were all these people standing outside so...unconcerned? She assumed they were all shop owners and employees. The economy had definitely changed after Earth-chan took over most commerce, but she didn't think people would be this relaxed about seeing their place of business slowly burning down in front of them. "H-hey, hey! I'm not supposed to be over here!" Hana protested loudly as she was half-tossed, half-shoved from devil to devil across the other side of the bathhouse. The Men's side, much to her embarrassment. The blushing musician was left a bit dizzy by the whirlwind trip through some sort of locker room, ending in the main bathing area for the Men's half of the establishment.

Staggering for a moment as she was finally let free, the disoriented teen reached for her guitar...and found it missing. "What? Where's...why am I dressed like this?" Hana was suddenly wearing some sort of robe, and holding...a wooden bucket? Presumably to poor water over someone. Someone...like the large devil seated nearby, wearing nothing but a towel while smoking a comically large cigar.

Tensing up, Hana prepared to run, but...couldn't seem to move. Glancing around, looking over the heads of the smaller devils surrounding her, she quickly realized why. Reflected in one of the nearby mirrors was a status message floating above her head: [Imp]. Slightly below that were a new pair of bright red horns.

"Oh I hate this mission." Hana grumbled to herself, temporarily held in place without access to any of her items or abilities, until something disrupted the scene being played out on this side of the bathhouse. At least none of the skills she'd already used seemed to have been shut off, as she could see all of her stats remained boosted.

Hana smiled as Aliyah seemed to enjoy the brief bit of music she'd played. "Talking to birds sounds fun. I had to run away from this giant, like, vulture that attacked us and made tornadoes and stuff. Your ability would've been really useful back then!" She still needed to visit that place again someday. They'd never finished their search of the town.

"Wow, cool sword!" Her eyes lit up almost as brightly as the multi-colored blade. "That's what you got from your Tutorial? All I got was...well, like...the ghost we beat possessed my guitar? I don't know how it works, really." Hana gave the instrument a pat. "It can shoot out some sort of sound attack now, though. Also it doesn't need to be plugged into anything to work right, which is nice."

Hana hesitated for a few moments as Serafina gestured for her to return to the driver's seat. But, once the system prevented her potential teacher from getting any closer to demonstrate, Hana finally nodded and slipped back into place. "Um, thanks! I think my dad had one for a while...or maybe that was just for a TV show or something." The teen looked thoughtful for a moment, trying to recall when and why she'd seen the inside of a vehicle with a shifter knob. Oh well, not important.

The teen turned her attention back to the vehicle she was currently in as Serafina began her demonstration. Staying quiet, nodding along, eyes wide as she did her best to catch all the details. "Hmmm...I think that makes sense. I'll give it a shot, but...it might take me a few tries." From what Serafina had described to her, that didn't seem uncommon.

"If you could follow along, that would be great. Thank you, Miss Sera!" The musician beamed brightly at the suggestion, all smiles again. "This isn't, like, a real mission, so I don't think we'll get points for it or anything. But, he said they'd give me a snack or something when I dropped it off. I bet they'd have something for you, too! They also might have some other problem they need solved. That seems to happen whenever higher level people visit these places that are, um, out of the way."

Once Serafina had disembarked, Hana started the tractor moving again. It would take a bit of fumbling and a few stalls, but the teen eventually got the vehicle going relatively smoothly, steadily increasing its speed. Now to make it down the bumpy dirt road while keeping an eye out for the settlement she'd been pointed towards.

She held the bag open to let Summer make her pick, blushing at her response. The musician also made sure to keep the opening pointed towards Corsen...but she seemed to be lost in her own thoughts, contemplating the inventory system.

Corsen seemed to be figuring out some of the same thing she had, through trial and error. The system seemed to 'like' containers full of smaller items more than simply cramming a dozen candy bars into storage. No need to rush, now that she knew it was an option. Corsen would probably be able to figure it out on her own time.
