It was amazing what one could do when they put their mind to it. Nyke had paused looking at his hands in bewilderment, he hadn't known how he knew how to do that; just that he did. His eyes looked up to see the burning tree monster get it's limbs blown off and finally fall back scrambling. The translucent arm fizzled out dropping the berry eyes. Nyke still dumbfounded held out his hand as they dropped onto them. He got an alarm informing him that he had collected two of the Crimson Berries they needed. Their total rose to three which seemed to ease Nyke's mind a bit.[break][break]
This was cut short by the beast of a tree squirming on the ground shrieking. Nyke finally got the know it all to step back, doing so just in time to avoid the pods; most of which he had to duck. "What the fuck?!" He exclaimed looking around at the seedlings beginning to sprout.[break][break]
"This is just too much, this is all too fucking much!" He had begun to scream angrily and franticly.[break][break]
Picking up a one of the still burning severed limbs of the tree, on that had flung clean off it and elsewhere he began bashing the ground where the pods where. His frantic swinging of the burning branch was hap hazardous but effective.

One of the pods near him had started to flail a vine around, so he took advantage of his reflect skill by making another wall of dark energy beside it. When the pod's vine lashed out against it, the ability reflected the damage just like it was supposed to, causing that particular pod to wither up and stop moving. "Wait a second, these pods are pretty weak! Die!" Marching over to one of the other pods, Rory started stomping on it as soon as he got close. The pods screeched as they were slain but at least it was done. Or it was after Tali had turned and launched two more arrows, hammering them into the other pods and causing them to spray sap across the ground and wither away. With a last shudder and a groan, the Ent died as well and Dantalion took a moment to look around before giving a nod. "Good work you two, looks like we killed this thing. I'll keep on guard if one of you two want to check the body to see if it was hiding anything? It might be holding one of the bushels." His voice was hopeful but he had no idea if the tutorial would be that kind to them.

Either way he made sure to skirt the pods and find another tree to take cover against, remembering the teachings of his mother. He brought the bow to a ready state but knew he couldn't draw any more arrows at the moment. Would any of the other group run past? How had they got the bushel? There was no way they killed the boss, there would have been a pop up for that. That meant there was either another group out there or they had been in the middle of finding one and got interrupted but managed to chase the boss off. Rory was right though, they were halfway through this thing. Dantalion set his jaw and narrowed his eyes, making sure no movement got past him.

Halfway... What was the trick going to be? They had already met a miniboss but there had to be something more, something that would trigger right at the end. The tension had been built enough now there needed to be some kind of downfall, that's how games always went; be it a new wave of monsters, a trap activating or a hidden objective spawning, it was never possible to get off lightly. And already this had proved itself a cruel game to play. However he was strong and he was backed up by a wealth of training, knowledge and bullheaded stubborness, this world of Demons would not defeat him, not now, not ever.

Nyke was doing everything he could to not pass out right now. It had been ages since he did any exercise, even before his time in the coma. Now on his first day up managing to walk he had to do such extensive movements. Beads of cold sweat dropped from his brow as his vision hazed. He placed his hands on his knees dropping the large stick he had used to bash the pods before they could sprout. His breath was ragged and as hos body felt like it weakened he fell to a knee momentarily, hospital gown flapping as he dirtied his sweatpants. He continued to breath heavy raising his head up, he had heard in little league that lifting your head was better than bending over; somehow it help more oxygen get to your lungs. That was the only thing he could think of right now, breathe his mind told him. His body began to rise but not to his own power; a thin silvery blue surrounding him. A part of his head began to dimly glow underneath one could see the healing bruise that supposedly damaged his brain, a part of his spin lit up like a faint lightbulb. Nyke hadn't noticed it but something else was inside of him, helping him along with each step.[break][break]
he picked up the large branch once again as he walked to the dead Ent. He rose the stick high above his head looking down at it with a angry grimace. "Open up." He bellowed lowly smashing it down on its burnt bark which caved in to his power.[break][break]
Inside; a bundle of silvery twigs twisted and wrapped into a fist-like shape adorned with sparkling leaves. Spindly vines ran to it as the bundle of intertwined twigs weakly pumped its final beats suddenly stopping. Nyke would reach down tugging at the bundle weakly. he placed his foot on a pile of the bark and yanked snatching it free. He tumbled over as an alert popped up on his screen, 'Silver Bushel Acquired!'. It was at that moment a blood curdling scream resounded, it wasn't human and it was far too close.[break][break]
This rose goosebumps across his skin. Nyke would shoot up just in time to catch another alert, one he had seen before; the same one he hated. His eyes widened as he seen another smiling face pass across his screen announcing the person dead. The ogre was here, amongst the group of foragers searching for supplies

How vile it was to stomp out these pods! The screeches they let out did not make it any easier for Rory, but after being flung around by that tree… he had no second thoughts about taking them out. By the time the pods had been stomped out, the tree had burned and withered away. If he didn’t have other people with him, there was no way Rory would’ve gotten out of that one alive; even as it were, he had still gotten banged up from the miniboss–and if that was just the miniboss, he didn’t even want to think about how much worse the actual boss was going to be![break][break]
With the ent defeated, Nyke was the one who risked investigation this time, cracking down on the body of the enemy to search for any more collectables it might be hiding away. Sure enough, one of the needed silver bushels was inside, something that Rory made sure to note the appearance of. That was one less thing to worry about, now that they knew what that item even was. Unfortunately, this was very quickly turning into an “out of the frying pan and into the fire” sort of situation, as something let out a guttural wail near the party.[break][break]
Rory’s head immediately jerked towards the sound as another person’s death message popped up. He couldn’t see it yet, but its presence could be felt. The ground shook as it stomped through the wood, loud SNAPS resounding through the forest as it undoubtedly crushed whatever trees and branches lay before it. [break][break]
Two side-by-side, glowing yellow dots were the first parts of the Ogre Rory saw. He could feel his body turning white as his passive activated yet again, this time showing the Death Spiral buff on the monster as it emerged from the forest. It pushed a tree over to break into their little clearing, its mangled head to the air as it sniffed. Rory had kinda hoped for a monster like shrek to be the boss here, but this was something straight out of a nightmare. The creature was like a massive man, entirely muscular with arms disproportionately larger than the rest of its body. Two gnarly horns sat atop its head, with a row of jagged teeth breaking free from its lips. It was haphazardly covered in ragged clothes made of bones and furs, but the worst part of all… were the deep red stains splashed all over the creature. [break][break]
After bursting through the treeline, the Ogre stood for a moment, sniffing at the air still. Rory was stunned by its appearance, but when he regained control of his body, he stumbled back, slowly taking a few steps back. Had… had it been attracted to them from the smell of the fire?! They got half the supplies they needed to escape by beating this tree “miniboss”, but had it really been a trap to draw the attention of the REAL Boss?! Rory was again filled with fear as the monster finally set its eyes on the dead Ent, and he could’ve sworn the creature grinned wickedly as it saw the humans around it. [break][break]

Out of the frying pan and into the Hellfire. The Divine was certainly testing him today but perhaps that was the point, to prove he was worthy of the power that he had been given and the task that had been entrusted to him. He set his jaw and drew another arrow back from his bow, firing it forwards and into the Ogre's face who roared and stumbled back but only a single step, it was a tough creature and Dantalion could tell that immediately. Fleeing was the better option just now, the buff couldn't last forever so they just needed to outlast it and take it out when it was weaker. "Rory, Nyke, it's time to get the fuck out of here, follow me!" He shouted out to them.

He could feel it on the edge of his senses, something waiting for him. Grasping the energy he drew it forth and from nothing a brilliant steed appeared. It had a shining white coat and its mane and tail were formed of brilliant azure fire that danced and flickered in the wind and gleaming eyes of the same colour. Tali hopped up onto the steed and pulled it in a circle, an instinctive connection forming between them. "Unless either of you can do anything to him, get away now, I can fire at range but we need to start running now!" He put as much authority into his voice as he could, hoping to shatter any fear that the other two were feeling. It was at this moment he decided to name this particular horse Warlord.

With a whinny and a thunder of hooves he turned and pulled Warlord with him, getting the horse moving so that they could get out of this place, if one of the other two seemed particularly slow he'd make sure to ride alongside them and grab them up onto the back of the horse but he knew that he would only be able to carry one, hopefully the other was fast enough. Saving that he knew he'd have to ride interference and just pepper the Ogre with arrows whenever he could, maybe it would get bored and go for easier prey... That was the best that Tali could hope for.

They say when you were scared your flight or fight activated, causing you to lash out at your fear or run from it, they forgot one; freeze. The one thing Nyke felt in that moment was to freeze in place, remaining deathly still. The yellow beady eyes accompanied by its putrid look and snarled pig-like nose sniffing about sent chills up his skin, goosebumps attributed to uncanny valley. Sweat dripped down his brow then a voice rang out with authority snapping him out of it. [break][break]
His body moved before he could think about it. Despite his reclusiveness in his later years Nyke was a kid who did some sports back in the day. He always ran to and from one or the other never fully committing to one thing. Football, wrestling, track were all his favorites even though he never made anything out of them. He slid on his knee getting low in front of Rory as he wrapped his legs up. "Don't fight me!" He yelled aloud still frightened as ever. [break][break]
Lifting he began running alongside the horse practically handing Rory to Dantalion as he reached for one of them. His muscles tenses, veins bulging as a purple tinged washed over them. He took off as Dantalion did running alongside him and his steed. Surprisingly, Nyke seemed able to keep pace with the man and his horse sprinting at inhuman speeds.[break][break]
The ogre lashed out at their moments a loud roar which frightenedly sounded far more like a gurgling chuckle than anything. Its large feet stomped after them club outstretched as it swung sending an baby avalanche of trees and dirty spiraling at them. Tucking his knees Nyke jumped as he leaped letting the debris travel under his feet and over his head as if he was hurdling.

Rory would have been in awe if it wasn’t for the terrifying situation he was in. As the group began to make a run for it, Tali summoned a white horse with a wicked mane of bright blue fire. ”A horse?! This guy came with a weapon AND the ability to summon a steed like that, Rory was really starting to feel like he had gotten the short end of the stick when it came to class options! [break][break]
With Nyke almost shimmering with vigor as he ran, Rory didn’t need to be told twice to take advantage of the horse that was here and hop up onto it. He hadn’t ridden before, and was glad he didn’t get car sick with as turbulent as it was. Not wanting to be useless here, he turned and activated his “core ability” again, this time on the Ogre instead of himself. Rory could see the buff activate on the monster… while it wasn’t as strong as the buff he had received, the ability still buffed their enemies, causing a slight increase to its power. ”DAMNIT![break][break]
The Ogre didn’t hesitate to chase after the group, and swung at the ground to send debris flying their way. Nyke managed to leap out of the way of danger, but since Tali was “driving” this thing and trying to shoot it at the same time, it was the least Rory could do to try and play defense. Just like he had done earlier with that “coin flipper” ability, he created a dark wall between the horse and the Ogre, causing any debris to just clatter against it and fall away. Rory could see the cracks that the attack had put in his ability; if even just the debris from one of its attacks was so strong, he didn’t want to find out just how badly one of its swings would hurt. [break][break]
”How long can we run?! I don’t know where–wait, look! Rory was concerned about just how long they could be on the run from this monster, but as they made their attempted escape, Tali’s horse took them right under a tree with another Silver Bushel dangling high in the air from one of its branches. Ordinarily, it looked like something that would require the gatherer to climb the tree to reach, but with the added height from the horse, Rory reached right up and grabbed it as they rode past. [break][break]
”That’s the third Silver Bushel! All we need now are the duck and some berries!” Rory still had no idea where to find the duck, but if they got lucky here, they might not even need to keep running for long. If Rory’s ability was telling about their luck though, their luck was starting to run dry…[break][break]

They were almost done with this, just a few things left to get and all they had to deal with was a rampaging, buffed Ogre hunting them down. The Divines never made anything easy, did they? Tali set his jaw, his eyes darting around to try and pick something up. At the very least his allies were being useful and had even grabbed a silver bushel, Tali's hands were a bit full so he was glad for that as he wouldn't have been able to grab it himself. He broke away from searching for a moment to twist his body and draw another arrow to his bow. He launched it at the Ogre's knee this time, causing it to stumble slightly and give them a bit more of a lead through the trees.

He could tell that Warlord was starting to run out of energy though, it wouldn't be able to carry them much further. At that point he caught a glitter of light through the trees, confusion was overtaken by knowledge as he realised this sparkling would be created by light on water. He immediately turned Warlord towards the glitter. "There's water over there! Hopefully some kind of lake, best place to find a duck that we can get!" He roared to the other two and continued dashing through the trees.

"My horse is almost spent, you two need to try and find the last items, I'll try and at least keep this thing distracted!" He shouted out before throwing Rory from the horse and turning it. Leaping off himself he roared out a command and Warlord exploded into flames before dashing forwards, creating a bow wave of glowing blue flame in front of it as it slammed into the Ogre and knocked it back. Tali landed on the ground and rolled his shoulders. They were close to the water, he just needed to hope that the other two could do this, neither seemed trained in combat but they had useful skills, so they'd hopefully be better at finishing this up than Tali would. He just needed to survive now and he'd do his best, damn the odds.

As Rory was thrown from the horse Nyke would attempt to help him up, using the last remnants of his speed to get them to the lack; frantically attempting to half carry the man. "My speed is almost up, the duck we have to look for the duck." Nyke blurted out in a near panicked tone as he feel muscles and veins still glowing a dim dark purple.[break][break]
His head snapped side to side seeing the wildlife that began to slowly scurry away. "He'll die if we don't hurry." His worry came to a crescendo as he revealed the source of his anxiety.[break][break]
Lifting up his untrained eyes scanned the waters edge and before long he heard a loud quacking from beside him. Just feet away was a sparkling golden duck observing Rory and Nyke. Dumbfoundedly the dimly lit man got up crouched with as much of a friendly face as he could muster plastered on his face. "Come on little ducky, please just come on nice and slow so we don't all diiiiieeee." Nyke's please seemed to entice the duck.[break][break]
The animal stood slowly beaming eyes blinked on him before quacking once, quacking tice, turning abruptly as its tail feathers ruffled and comically duck sprinting away. Nyke dashed his legs giving out as his ability deactivated causing him to fall short of catching the duck. instead he'd faceplant getting a mouth full of wet grass.[break][break]

As they fled the Ogre, eventually the group came across another opening with water. There, Tali turned back to give the other two time to find the duck. ”What?! I-” Rory didn’t want to just leave him there–but Tali was right here, wasn’t he? They wouldn’t get anywhere just by running; they needed to find the duck. ”Okay! I believe in you!” [break][break]
With Nyke and Rory now searching for the remaining objectives, felt a lump in his throat as Nyke mentioned that Tali could die if they didn’t hurry. Just hearing it said out loud was terrifying… ”Let’s find this duck ASAP!”[break][break]
Scanning through the swamp area, it was Nyke that first spotted the duck. Rory crouched down to watch his ally sneak up on the bird, slowly getting closer before making a sprint towards it–and falling short! Shit! [break][break]
”Coin flipper! Rory threw his hand out in front of the duck, causing another of his shields to appear, only this time he was using it as a barrier instead of for defense. Appearing right in front of the bird as it tried to fly away, the golden duck let out a “SQUACK!” as it flew right into the dark wall of energy and tumbled to the ground. Rory rushed over to the duck and scooped it up in his hands. ”FINALLY! WE GOT THE DUCK!” Seeing Tali’s horse and weapon, and The things Nyke could do with his class both had made Rory a little bit envious of his companions… but without his own abilities, they wouldn’t have been able to capture the duck like this! Facing down a demon, a scene that had haunted his dreams for some time ever since he had learned of his purpose. Now it was real. Dantalion let out a slow breath, only just realising how dry his mouth was now. He could feel the sweat trickling down his spine and the restless energy pooling in the small of his back. He reached up and twisted the bow at the middle, the string disappearing with a snap and flash of energy as he split the weapon into two shortswords, rotating his wrist to test their weights. His world narrowed down to just staring at the creature as it recovered from being hit by his horse and started to lumber towards him.

For a moment he considered pros and cons of this fight but he dispelled those thoughts quickly, overthinking would lead to him freezing and if he froze he died, it was quite that simple. The notification popped up that they had claimed the duck, that meant there were only a couple of berries left to grab. He'd put his trust in his allies enough now, it was time to do so again. He clenched his jaw and summoned his will before dashing forwards at the Ogre, pumping his arms to try and grant him some additional momentum, he knew this thing wasn't too fast and that was really all the advantage he had... Or needed.

The beast swung at him and he dived to the side, mostly avoiding the strike but even the very slight glancing blow sent him sprawling through the undergrowth. He pushed himself back to his feet and moved in again, sliding around behind the Ogre and slashing his blades across the back of its knees, causing it to screech and stagger to the side, attempting to backhand him. Dantalion threw himself back and rolled through the leaf mulch again before hopping back up into a crouch, a feral snarl on his features. "Come on you big bastard, I'm not done dancing yet!" He growled at the thing as it turned around to face him, his blood pounding through his veins, his heartbeat drumming in his ears. Faith was all he had now, hopefully it'd be enough.

Seeing Rory get the duck sent a chill of relief through him. Tension reared its ugly head as the notification appeared and he realized they weren't actually done. They still needed berries; it was this fact that made him slowly panic. A panic that he attempted to quell slowly as he gathered himself. His eyes awakened, double pupils slightly merged as the iris' turned a sparkling purple.[break][break]
He scanned once more head turning frantically as he began to rush into a different part of the woods in search of berries. His eyes told him everything, and knowing it all meant he knew there were no berries in sight; even with his near perfect vision. He had almost given up, resorted to a tragic fate until his vision pinged it, a tree similar to the one they had fought earlier.
Its body looked battered and beaten, like someone had gotten to it before them. He began to rush over, "I found some I found some!" He screamed out hoping Rory would follow.[break][break]
Once he got to the tree its battered body held many berries but all seemed to be crushed. He dropped to his knees in a manner similar to giving up as he searched through the crushed and half eaten morsels. He began punching through the torn bark angrily, his hands quickly became battered and when they nearly were broken he stood stomping on it out of rage.[break][break]
"Open you fucking trunk! Open you goddamn tree! You won't kill us! I refuse to die here, OPEN!" he screamed snapping in the worn out tree trunk with his now damaged foot as it caved way revealing its epicenter. Amongst the silver bushel were more thrashed berries, but luckily with them were a few that seemed intact.[break][break]

Adrenaline surged through Dantalion's body as though it understood the threat that stood before him. His world had focused all the way down to a simple tunnel edged in red. The bitter taste in his mouth had faded, the marching rhythm of his heartbeat had faded away to barely even background noise and exhaustion was only a distant memory. He could feel the steel in his hands, the thrumming of energy in his body and he could see his opponent. Nothing else mattered in this moment and it was here that he knew his training would pay off, it was here that he knew the Prophecy had been correct. He was supposed to be here, he was supposed to fight, to kill.

He let out a slow breath and rushed in as the Ogre swung one massive tree trunk-like arm for a punch and Dantalion sidestepped, feeling the wind pressure itself batter against him from the passing blow. He held his ground however and scissored his blades in, ramming them in either side of the beast's elbow and wrenching them through the flesh sending out a spray of brackish blood onto his own clothes and face. He ripped the two shortswords out and threw them up to block as the Ogre flailed in fury and pain, smashing its now limp, ruined arm into his blades and into his chest.[break][break]
With a grunt he was sent flying backwards and into a tree, slamming into it with a crack from the ancient wood and a crunch from his own body. He slid down and gasped, clutching one hand to his side and feeling his breath rattle. Cracked ribs at least, at least one of them was broken. "Come on you bastards, find those fucking berries, I'm not dying for some bloody sinners..." He hissed out and got back to his feet, though somewhat unsteadily now. He ran the blades against each other with a scratch of steel and fell into a defensive stance as the Ogre turned to face him once more, its right arm now hanging limp at its side. Hopefully that was good enough for now but he highly doubted it...

Nyke picked up the berries wiping the tears that had formed from his face. He looked up carrying them back as the alert popped up that he had just found the last of the berries. You needed skill but sometimes a person could also benefit from luck; it too was an important part of life. His eyes remained forward running right past his partner who watched him dumbfounded. "Dantalion!!" He yelled out to the man they had left behind to deal with the mighty ogre.[break][break]
His panicked voice screamed out once more, "Dantalion, we found them! We can leave come on!" He ran beck attempting to find where the warrior had been left. He wasn't nearly as fast as he could be using his core skills but he was still damn fast, especially with the adrenaline and anxiety running through his body. [break][break]
"You better not have died on us! Dantalion!" He desperately hoped he had lived. Nyke had just met the man but he couldn't have the man's blood on his hands due to his ineptitude.[break][break]
