With slumped shoulders, Ravenna Brooke and kicked open the Wild West-style bar’s doors. She’d called Hikari over, expecting to make a victory lap with a friend – instead, she’d burned out badly, which had caused her no end of chagrin. She hadn’t bothered to change out of her purple tracksuit, and so she trudged into said bar with a grimace.[break][break]
Ravenna took a seat at the usual spot that she used to meet with people – fortunately, it hadn’t been taken. As if she needed the extra inconvenience today of all days, when she’d just lost a race. Oh, well. What she needed right now was a strong drink and a handsome man to while away some time with. Preferably a rich one, too, but that was negotiable.[break][break]
…The handsome part wasn’t, though.

Hikari walked into the bar with a passive look to her. She was never one to partake in alcohol in such a place, and yet, here she was. There were few and far between places of high-class dens for the less virtuous, and so they had to make do. Besides, she had been invited by Ravenna, and truth be told, she was not one to say to no maintaining connections in this world.

Looking around, she quickly found the woman and gave a small smile. She made her way forward, passing the bar and quickly ordering her drink. "Jamieson, on the rocks."

The woman made her way to Ravenna, before taking a seat across from her. She took her ordered drink from a passing waitress, before settling into her seat. "Ravenna, you look...overwhelmed..." Hikari raised her glass towards the woman and took a small sip. It was horrid, certainly not the original Jamieson- a knock-off version most-like. But who was she to judge?

"I'm sure I could have found us a more...decent place to meet, so I'm left wondering why you chose this place." She glanced around, eyeing each and every person in the room for a few seconds. Hikari would not want to be caught off-guard by any of these hooligans, good looking or not. Her swords, floating beside and around her, kept many at-bay.

Ravenna grumbled. She forgot that Hikari came from money; she was used to tolerating it on normal days, but her loss meant that she was in no mood to do so today. “This is where I usually go when I’m in Motor City,” she said, waving her hand dismissively. “If you don’t like it, we can go somewhere else – but I don’t have much cash on me.” [break][break]
“Yeah, got my ass kicked. I’m a bit…less than enthusiastic right now.” Ravenna knew when she was beaten, and there was no use denying it – half the city probably knew, too. “Anyway, if you’re willing to pay for the both of us while we’re at some expensive joint, I won’t say no.”[break][break]
Hikari’s prissiness could get annoying sometimes.

Hikari looked towards her friend, before chuckling, "Oh, it's fine. To be honest, there are less and less classy places that exist in this world. Class equals not having rats run around at your feet these days." The woman smiled, a rare one, before turning her attention around the place.

She nodded as Ravenna talked of getting her ass kicked. That was bound to happen to everyone now and then. "It'll be fine. You're here, which means you can go back tomorrow and kick their asses." That was Hikari's mentality, at least. "There's only up when you're down right?"

Nodding towards the barkeep, before two drinks were delivered to them. Their finest, Hikari assumed. "This round's on me." Taking the drink, she took a sip. It was passable, at the very least.

"So, besides today, how's life going?" It was a day-to-day basis for a lot of people, especially those who were actively trying to obtain levels. "I hope there haven't been too many hearts broken by you these past few weeks?" Hikari smiled coyly at the woman, before turning her attention towards the people around them. Ravenna was a beautiful woman, and she certainly attracted attention. It was one of the things she enjoyed, watching the woman wrap men around her fingers.

“Thanks, Hikari.” Ravenna smiled, despite the hardship. [break][break]
At the question, Ravenna straightened up, then clicked her teeth and smiled. “But of course!” she said, with a flourish of her hand. “Some guy tried to get under my skirt by offering me an item. I told him no thank you, sir – and gave him some free advice to boot. Want to hear it?”[break][break]
Regardless of whether or not Hikari would respond, Ravenna would laugh. “I told him that us ladies can smell desperation a mile away, and we don’t like it,” she said. Gosh, she needed to say that out loud to someone – she just hadn’t realized it yet. And her recent loss had made it so that she had less of a filter than usual.[break][break]
Then Ravenna laughed. Besides, wasn’t hanging out with one’s friends supposed to be about letting down one’s filter? “Sucks to be him, I guess – but hey, no-one’s entitled to my presence. Except you of course, hun.”

Hikari was not glad to hear that the scum of the earth were still around. Really, who would fall for that kind of desperate scheme anyway? An item? If anything, women in this new world were more empowered now. Gone were the times where men had all the power. Now, women had power too, alongside men. Some of the strongest people she had met along her journey had been women. Hana was one of them, and so was Dee Dee.

"A swift kick in the nuts would do him good." Hikari nodded, smiling as she listened to Ravenna's response to the man. "Though I've never really understood your fascination with men." She would shrug, taking a small sip of her drink. "Men have been soured in my opinion." Just the thought of her father and how he treated women made her blood boil. No, she would rather be on her own. Forging her path and making something of herself.

She smiled at Ravenna's last comment. "I'm glad you think highly of me." Taking a sip of her drink, she continued, "And you'll always have me. Just say the word, and I'll be there. As long as it's not a blind date." For once, she grinned. "But if you do, perhaps you'd find a good-looking woman?" It was a joke, of course. A jest. Hikari had never once felt any attraction with anybody. Sometimes she told herself: one day. That day has not come, however.

Looking around, she realized Ravenna had become the centre of attention for most of the men in this bar. That was no surprise. The men were trying to be subtle, to no avail. At least not to a woman's eye. "It looks like you've caught the attention of several patrons." She smirked at Ravenna, wondering what her friend would do.

Ravenna clicked her teeth. Like Hikari, she was aware that quite a few men were ogling her – and by God, she loved being ogled. She stretched, basking in the ego boost that the considerable male attention gave her. “Looking’s free, but if they try anything more, I’ll kick their asses. Literally,” she said, as she kicked her legs up slightly. “Unless they’re cute, I mean. Then…well, you know.”[break][break]
Then she put her elbows on the table and rested her chin on her hand, looking straight at Hikari. “Of course, you’re sitting pretty yourself, babe. Sure you don’t want to pick up a few boys yourself?” It was just like Ravenna to assume everyone was as boy-crazy as her, wasn’t it? And she loved it, too.[break][break]
Already, the disappointment from her loss was fading away – Ravenna glanced at the men who’d been ogling her, then smiled and winked. This was just what she needed, really! She bit her lip, resisting the urge to blow a kiss; that would’ve been a bit much, wouldn’t it?[break][break]
…She was thirsty in more ways than one, it seemed. Sue her!
