“Another drink?” Sable asked, looking down at the empty stool across the empty bar. “Oh,” she continued with a huskier voice, “don’t mind if I do.” Pulling out a whiskey bottle, the beautiful barkeep twirled it around like she was trying out for the sequel to Cocktail.
A second later she poured four fingers of whiskey in the chilled glass now resting on the bar before her. And then, another second later, it was down to three fingers. “Mmm,” Sable cooed, “guess a slow day isn’t so bad. More for me, heh.”
Placing the glass back on the bar, she stretched a bit before letting out a yawn. Wondered if she should go have another smoke. But then she felt… Something. Looking down, she noticed ripples across the rum’s surface. “Huh, did I…” Sable started to say, until the entire bar began to tremble.
“... Did I have mushrooms today?” She wondered aloud as she looked around. Pictures were falling off the walls, and the bottles… “No!” Sable cried at the sound of glass shattering as she spun around, catching the next two bottles. And the two after that, but then everything started to unravel.
For some damn reason it looked to her like a sinkhole was forming at the edge of the bar, or else had expanded to encompass it, seeing as the far wall crumbled away and disappeared into it. “Oh, what the fuck!” Sable hollered at the scene, and also in part because it caused her to drop one of the bottles, “that was a good year too, damn it.”
Pulling on her weathered brown duster, and depositing the remaining bottles in its many pockets, Sable vaulted over the bar and sprinted toward the exit as the building crumbled behind her. Dashing outside, she jumped on her motorcycle and brought it roaring to life in a flash.
A good thing too, as the sinkhole wasn’t finished expanding, not by a long shot. No sooner had she pulled away did the parking lot also disappear into the earth. And it was accelerating now too, as the bigger it became, the faster it grew.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” Sable yelled as she sped down the street, road and buildings alike crumbling in her wake. Not like what was in front of her was any better, for society itself was clearly crumbling as well. As she rode Sable saw fire trucks, ambulances and police cars alike ignoring everyone else, or even just outright mowing them down, in their own frantic attempts to escape the sinkhole.
Not that she stopped to help anyone, so sure that doing so would mean certain death as she looked at the reflection of grim nothingness in her mirrors. No, she weaved through people and vehicles alike, driving up onto the sidewalk whenever necessary to avoid obstructions. After what seemed like eternity, however, death stopped nipping at her heels; the sinkhole finally stopped growing.
But she didn’t stop or slow down, even when she looked back to the mirror and witnessed a gargantuan monolith rise from the abyss. “Ah c’mon,” Sable groaned, “you gotta be shittin’ me!” Yet she kept going, following the same path she had from the very start; the path that led her home, to her sister.
Skidding to a halt outside their apartment, Sable was halfway up the steps before the kickstand even touched the ground. “Jin! Sis!” she screamed breathlessly, throwing open the door only to be enveloped by a blinding white light from within… “JIN!!!”

Sitting at the center of the rooftop of her apartment complex. Where Jin would spend most of her free time when she was around the apartment. It was a day like any other as her sister was away working at the bar. Jin was at their apartment, going through her usual motions. The long haired female had just finished going through her sword motions. The wooden practice sword lay horizontal in front of her while she meditated.
Meditating, Jin cut off the sounds of the world around her. Her music blaring through her headphones as she remained seated. Inhaling slowly, Jin felt her chest rise as she filled her lungs with as much air as she could. Slowly letting that breath out, her spring green eyes opening while she listened to the music.
“Once more should do it.”
Letting out another long breath. Jin reached down to her left side, picking up another join. A flip lighter was brought up with the other hand as the joint was lit. Taking a bigger hit than she probably should. The girl held the smoke, before letting it slowly trickle out from her mouth. Before exhaling the remainder of it. Keeping the joint in her mouth, Jin quickly gripped the practice sword.
Launching up to her feet she returned to her sword drills. Always keeping up with her training, the drills keeping Jin distracted as things began to change around her. Not feeling the first minor shockwave that came through. Jin wouldn’t notice her water bottle fall over. Or her remaining joints were moved from their spot. Slowly rolling across the rooftop a short way.
Continuing on as if nothing happened, that is when the entire apartment building shook. Causing Jin to immediately come to a stop as she removed her head phones. When the building shook again. Jin was getting more concerned as she looked out. When the building cae to a rest, in quickly grabbed her things and raced for the edge. Gripping onto the railing as she looked down the street. Looking n the direction of the bar, she saw police, fire trucks, panic.
Most importantly she saw her sisters bike rapidly approaching this direction. “Sable, i’m coming.”
Saying to herself as she raced for the door. Jin quickly threw the door open only to be immediately enveloped by a strange white light. Yelling out her sisters name as everything disappeared from her vision. Everything going white.

“... GAH!” Sable yelled, stomping afoot in frustration, both sounds swallowed up by the vast nothingness in which she found herself. “What is it now!? Jin! JIN!” she called out, angry and not expecting a holographic screen to suddenly pop up in front of her face. “Holy shit!” she exclaimed, quite startled. She instinctively took a step back, only for it to follow her!
But, after a second, Sable just got over it and started to look over the message. With the day she was having, what was one more crazy thing? “Well, this planet does kind of suck,” the woman admitted, speaking over the audible pop of a cork being pulled from a bottle.
“Game? Hmm, if I can bet on it, then sure,” Sable said with a shrug, as if having a conversation with the holographic message. Taking a swig of rum, she continued to read. “Heh, cheeky lil’ sumbitch,” Sable said with a smirk, wiping her mouth. She liked cheeky. “I mean, you definitely could’ve done it a bit better, but…” My sister and I do like to fuck shit up.
But what was all this other crap? “Classes? Monsters? What is this, uh, D&D?” she said, barely recalling the game played by those kids on Stranger Things. Sable didn’t play those types of games, or any video games, and she didn’t read manga or watch much anime, so this was sort of lost on her.
“And what do you mean don’t die? Dick!” She fumed aloud, to no one. “Pfft, “sowwyyy” my ass,” Sable continued venting, when the screen changed to display her three class options. Now, she didn’t know much about any of this, but… “Flash Mage? Ooo, I like the sound of that…”
Once again, in the blink of an eye, she was suddenly somewhere else. Entirely unaware of any “loading phase” or how long she was in it.
Sable just looked around, taking in the barren wasteland in which she now found herself. Nothing but sand, dirt and rock far as the eye can see; a different sort of vast nothingness. “Please just be a bad trip,” she said while surveying the area, repeating the words again and again, like some sort of mantra.
After all, it was a lot to take in; like, a lot, even for her.
Forget escaping the sinkhole Fast & Furious style, or the floating obelisk that rose from it, enormous as it was ominous. Forget the blinding white light that whisked her away, and that weird place that somehow felt like nowhere and somewhere all at once; which was feakin’ trippy, even for her.
And why forget it? Because what does it even mean after learning that the earth was not only alive, but it can also communicate with people. Not to mention bestow fantastical powers.
“Where in the hell am I? AND WHERE’S MY SISTER!?” Sable roared, before drinking more rum. But then she stopped with a gasp. “And my guns!?” she said, patting herself down. Gasping louder, she added, “And where ’re my other bottles!? SONUVA–no, wait,” she said, finding them with a sigh of relief.
“But where’s Jin? Where’s my guns? And my bike? And where’s my sister!?” Sable yelled, visibly distressed as she spun around, looking everywhere. “JIIIIIIIIIN!”

Pulling open the rooftop door. The white light enveloped anything and everything around Jin. Taking away her vision for a brief second before it returned. Jin, now staring into empty space all around her. “Sable!” Jin yelled out. Her voice echoing out but hearing nothing in response. She yelled out her sister's name again only this time louder. Still only silence was her answer. Getting more frustrated and annoyed, Jin began to walk in a direction. Hoping to locate her sister.
“Sable where the hell are you?”
Saying to herself as she continued to walk through the nothingness. Moments later a screen popped up in front of her. Startling Jin into striking out at the screen. Only for her hand to go through it. Looking at the screen Jin let out a slow breath. “I don’t have time for this.” Saying to herself as she ignored the screen. Trying to get around it.
Only for the screen to remain in front of her no matter how or where she moved to. Growing more and more frustrated that she still hasn’t found or heard Sable but also the screen continued to appear directly in front of her. “Fine” Beginning to read the message.
As she read, a joint was lit up. Taking a few quick puffs before going back to reading. Needing something to calm her self down and allow herself to focus. The smoke slowly escaped from her mouth and nose. “What do you mean game? What is this place.” Taking another hit of the joint. Jin looked around again. Checking her surroundings before reading further.
Continuing on, Jin wondered if she was in some kind of game. Given what she was reading about choosing different classes. Fighting monsters, the younger sister was familiar with the concepts. Having played some in between practicing. Reading the words don’t die, Jin smirked as she took another hit. “Don’t plan on it.”
Suddenly the screen flashed and three class choices were before Jin. Taking a long hit. Jin carefully read over each option before her. Weighing the potential of each of them as she only had a description to go by. “Hmmmmmm” Thinning to herself as she finished the joint. Jin blew out the smoke as she pulled another one from her other pocket. Lighting it up a second later.
“Red Mage” Jin said aloud, taking a hit.
Letting out the smoke, she was once again transported to another location. Everything around her got enveloped in white. With her vision clearing up moments later, she took another hit of the joint as a loud noise was heard from a few feet behind her. Hearing her own name being called out. Getting startled as she quickly twisted around. She had to blink a few times before realizing who was standing there.
“Sable!?”
Racing forward, Jin wrapped her arms around her sister before stepping back. Taking one more hit she held the joint over to Sable. “Where the hell are we sis?”

“Could it be…?” Sable dared to hope upon hearing an all too familiar voice calling her name. Spinning back, the woman looked back in a direction she had only just scouted. But now, amidst the vast nothingness, there was suddenly something. Or rather, someone. Standing. No, running, and right toward her too.
“JIN!!!” Sable hollered in glee, catching her younger sister in a warm embrace. Albeit a short one, the woman begrudgingly released her hold when Jin stepped back. “Well, shit,” she responded when asked about their current location, “you took the words right out of my mouth.”
Sable hadn’t the slightest clue what was going on, nonetheless the where. But she took the offered joint and breathed deep all in one fluid motion. Meanwhile, left in Jin’s hand was a bottle of booze; it was a switch one could hardly notice, if not for the difference in weight.
Making alcohol appear was one of Sable’s favorite magic tricks.
“Feels like we’re in the Twilight Zone,” she said with smoke curling up from her nostrils and the corners of her mouth. Still looking at the wasteland around them she added, “And we just got dropped into Mad Max, or… Oh! Into the Badlands!? You remember when we watched that one, right? Danuel Wu as that tatted up kung fu swordmaster…” Sable rambled on before trailing off into a Chef’s kiss.
“And good lord, don’t even get me started on the Widow!” She continued, all fired up as she took another hit despite never having let out the first, “Emily Beecham was sooo badass, and hot. Oh God, please let us be there.”
Crossing her fingers as she spoke those last words, Sable finally exhaled. But it wasn’t a plume of smoke, or even rings, but rather smoky outlines of cartoony hearts. Followed by several arrows to pierce them, and all while still looking over the surrounding area.
Upon locating whatever appeared to be the tallest rock formation around, she looked at Jin, nodded to it, and then began strolling towards it. “By the way,” Sable said, looking to her little sister as she took another big hit, “what did you pick for your, uh, class thingy?”

Taking a hit, Jin chose her class. As the smoke left her lips, she was transported once again. With her vision clearing up a moment later. Jin was beginning to check her surroundings when a familiar voice reached her ears. Hearing her own name called and by her sister no less. Jin called out for Sable as she raced in her direction. Embracing her sister a moment later and glad she was able to find her so quickly.
Stepping back from Sable, Jin handed over her joint. A smirk came over her face at Sable’s response to her question. Once the joint left her hand it was replaced with a bottle of booze. “Thanks” Saying as she took a swig from the bottle. The liquid running down into her stomach. Warming her chest as she handed the bottle back to her sister. Taking out another joint and lighting it up. As that one was for Sable now..
Taking a hit she listened to her sister. “You not wrong there sis.” Releasing the smoke from her lungs as she spoke. Checking out their new location. Sable continued on, mentioning other situations that it felt like they were dropped in. From Mad Max to Into the Badlands. A show both sisters loved. “Great show.”
Her sister continued mentioning another favorite character of theirs, the Widow. “Indeed she was.” Looking at Sable. Jin watched as smoke hearts were blown out. Followed by smoke arrows to go through them. Her sister was always good at smoking tricks. Still looking around, Sable would point out the tallest formation that she could see.
Nodding back to her sister, Jin followed making sure to check behind them as they walked. Her attention was brought back to her older sister. As Sable took another big hit and asked what she chose for her class.
Taking a hit herself. Red Mage.” Letting out the smoke in her lungs before continuing. “Seems to be a balance between magical and physical combat. Fit with how I like to sight so I went with it. Don’t really know what I can do.” Pausing for a moment as she held the joint in her mouth. It was then she felt the rapier at her hip.
Pulling the blade out, Jin was confused, “I don’t remember having a rapier on me.” Returning the blade to her side she took another hit as she looked to Sable. What about you sis?”Asking as the smoke rolled out of her mouth.

“Ooooo, Red Mage,” Sable interjected while her little sister let out a plume of smoke, “I like it.” And she liked the description too, fully agreeing that it fit her perfectly. “Plus, you look great in red.”
She breathed deep through the joint pinched between her lips, followed by a long drink from her bottle. Only then did she exhale, this time letting out rings that formed a sort of smoky dart board. And as she passed it, let out a dart of smoke. Naturally it was a bullseye.
“Saaame,” she replied with a sigh, after Jin stated that she didn’t know what her “class” could do. But then Sable felt her sister fall out of step, and so quickly turned to find her pulling out some blade that was sheathed at her hip. How… How did I miss that? Am I… Am I drinking too much, she thought, blinking, a surprised look on her face.
But then she just took another long swig from her bottle. Naaah, I’m fiiine.
“I picked Gun Mage, because of course,” Sable replied when asked about her class in turn, “I always wanted to mix guns and magic! Even though the school never let me perform the act in the talent shows. Bunch of pansies.”
“And hey, at least you got a sword! Not only did I not get anything, but that jerk took my guns away,” the tall woman complained loudly, all pouty as she patted the empty holsters strapped to her hip and lower back. “Helluva name though, rapier. Certainly doesn’t sound very PG.”
So the girls continued on; drinking, smoking, and talking as they went. Eventually they arrived at the largest formation in sight, to which Sable had pointed; a small butte. Bigger is better, but it’ll have to do. And then, after a heavy sigh, she began to climb.
Its sides were inclined so thankfully it wasn’t too hard, plus there were plenty of hand and footholds to be found on the rocky, flat-topped hill of sorts. But she was also drinking and smoking as she climbed, so by the time Sable pulled herself up and sat on the ledge, she was quite winded.
Fanning herself with her hat while wiping the sweat from her brow, Sable suddenly noticed a cloud of dust on the horizon. “Well shit,” she said with another sigh, upon realizing it was getting bigger, aka closer.

Taking another hit of her joint. Jin answered her sisters question about what class she chose. Red Mage. As Jin began to describe it to her sister, she liked the class. Also making a comment how Jin looked good in red. “If you say so.” Saying as she shook her head at Sable’s comment. Not really knowing what her class could do, it seemed her sister was in the same boat. This is when Jin finally reached down to her side. Falling step behind Sable. She pulled out the Rapier.
Not remembering having that at her waist she returned the blade to its holster for the time being. Catching back up to Sable, Jin took another hit of her joint. Then asking her sister what she ended up choosing. Upon hearing the words Gun Mage. Jin nodded her head as that was a perfect choice for her sister. Continuing on, her sister explained she always wanted to combine the two. Bringing up how their school wouldn’t let her perform that show.
The statement caused Jin to give her sister a look as if to way “I wonder why”. Before shaking her head once again. With Sable going on. Jin did notice that her sisters guns weren’t on her sides. Sable explained that apparently some jerk took her guns. Curious about who this jerk could be. The two continued on asSable made a comment about the name of her blade. Taking a hit of her joint, Jin looked at her sister. “You’re not entirely wrong there sis.” Pausing for a moment to release the smoke from her lungs.
“I just don’t recall having it on me. Interesting.”
Smoking and drinking with her sister. As the two of them continued to walk. They eventually approached the large structure that her sister had pointed out. A small butte, the sisters approached the large obstacle. Thankfully it was inclined. Making it much easier to get to the top. Finishing her joint as they got to the top. Sweat was running down her forehead as she took a deep breath.
Closing her eyes for a moment is when she heard Sable speak again. Looking in the same direction as her sister. She too saw the dust cloud that was getting closer and closer. Taking a step forward, Jin put a hand over the top of her eyes, blocking the sun so she could get a better look. That can’t be good. Jin said as she pulled out her Rapier once more.
As the dust cloud continued to get closer the sisters would see several cars approaching. Looking out of some kind of mad max style movie, there were a few people standing on the back of the cars as the drove forward.
“I wonder what they want.” Saying to her sister as her eyes were locked on the approaching cars. Jin didn’t trust anyone other than her sister. So a group of cars approaching had the younger sister on edge. Especially after what they just went through moments earlier. Jin was ready to protect her sister.{Spoiler}

“Now, now,” Sable said, trying to lift both their spirits, “let’s not make assumptions! World isn’t what it used to be.” Literally, she added in thought while taking another hit, followed by a long swig of rum.
Still… It was hard to argue with her assessment. Not that that ever stopped her! “I mean, c’mon, look at them,” she said, pointing at the fleet of edgy vehicles growing larger by the second, “clearly they are big Mad Max fans too, so that’s one thing in common! Who knows, maybe they just want us to join their crew or something?” See, unlike her sister Jin, Sable was more trusting of others–
PING!
She was suddenly interrupted by the sound of a bullet slamming into the rock, a few feet to the right of Jin. Immediately her eye began to twitch as smoke curled upwards from the corners of her mouth. See, all of her trust and compassion and understanding evaporated the moment her sister’s wellbeing was threatened.
Now there was only fire and fury.
“I'm gonna head down there and rain an ungodly fucking firestorm down upon you!” Sable shrieked down at the approaching cars, channeling her inner Les Grossman. “You’re gonna have to call the fucking Earth itself and get that cheeky shit to twist the laws of fucking reality all over again just to keep me from fucking destroying you,” she roared, spittle loosening from her lips as an inferno raged behind her eyes.
“I'm talking scorched earth, motherfuckers! I will massacre you! I WILL FUCK YOU UP!”
In her rage, the young woman reached for her holster, not remembering that it was now empty. But in that moment, on instinct, Sable believed her trusty sidearm was where it always was, everyday. Mostly because she was too busy lining up the shot in her mind; too busy envisioning her divine retribution.
She wasn’t even surprised when her hand emerged, firmly gripping her big bore revolver, as it felt so natural for her. Sable didn’t feel it materialize in her hand, didn’t realize she had willed it into being. No, nothing really clicked until she pulled the trigger, and the hand cannon unleashed lead and thunder…
Okay, fine, it was only after she emptied half a dozen rounds at the vehicles and saw one of them burst into flames, launch into the air, and come crashing down into a smoking scrap heap.
“MY BABY!” Sable yelled, her voice softening suddenly as tears welled in her eyes. “Did you miss mama?” She asked the gun, now cradling it in her arms and nuzzling it with a cheek, briefly forgetting her rage and the rapidly approaching fleet, who seemed very angry about their recently deceased friends.
“Can you believe it, Jin!?” Sable continued, beaming as she turned to her sister.

As the sisters continued their conversation. The two of them were sharing a blunt, until Jin pulled out a second one and began smoking that on herself. As their conversation continued, Jin began to explain the class that she had chosen. Red Mage was its name, though she didn't know exactly what it all meant yet. However she seemed to have one of her blades by her side. Though she didn’t recall grabbing that one earlier. Before all that white light nonsense. Taking another hit of her joint. Smoke filled her lungs before slowly escaping from her lips while she listened to Sable. Commenting on the name of the blade, which to her sisters point wasn’t very PG. Not that it mattered to Jin anyways, but her sister was right.
After a bit more walking. It was Jin who noticed a largish structure, aways in front of them. Making their way towards the large structure. Jin was thankful that the smallish Butte was inclined as they approached. Taking the last hit of her joint as she approached the top. The younger sister wiped her hand across her forehead. Flicking the sweat off her hand as she blinked a few times. Jin then closed her eyes for a moment as Sable then began to speak again. Her eyes opened, looking out at the dust cloud that was getting closer and closer. Speaking to Sable, Jin wondered what they wanted.
As she was beginning to get a better look at the Mad Max looking cars and people approaching. As Sable began to speak. Jin remained focused on the closest car. Not wanting to make any assumptions. Jin just sighed “Of course” Jin said sarcastically as her sister continued on. Continuing to play peacekeeper as the cars continued their approach. Jin still remained locked forward. Giving side glance to her sister as she brought up the Mad Max connection. She wasn’t wrong. It did seem like they were pretty big fans of the movies. Also mentioning they might want us to join their crew. The is when Jin gave her sister a side glance.
It was at the same time a bullet pigned off a rock a few feet from Jin. Flinching slightly as Jin wasn’t unfamiliar with guns in the least. Given their family history. Jin then saw a change in her sisters eyes, as a smile came across her own. Sables words took a one hundred and eighty degree turn As she began to threaten to rain a firestorm upon them. Seaking scorched earth a few moments later. Jin’s eyes returned forward as the cars were even closer now.
However, a few moments later, Jin heard the familiar gunfire of Sable’s revolver. Seeing one of the vehichles burst into flames a moment later. Then launch into the air and crash. “Well that escalated quickly. Glad to see you didn't lose your guns.” Jin said as one of the passengers on the approaching vehicle leapt off. Rolling into the Butte, Jin was quick to unsheath the rapier by her side. “I think you are close enough.” Rushing forward towards the crazed individual. Stepping to the side as the individual swung at her. Jin Quickly stabbed her blade forward, Hitting the person on the side.
When her blade connected it left behind a Crimson Mark. “What the hell?” Jin said a loud as she rolled out of the way of another swing.

Sable was kind of, well, all over the place. Yeah, yeah I know what you’re probably thinking, “when isn’t she?” But this is all obviously a whole different level; hell, a different world. But also… Eh, you’re not wrong.
“Tchaa! My darling sister was put in harm's way, so if anything I’d say it didn’t escalate fast enough,” Sable replied to Jin, yelling over the roar of her hand cannon as she continued to light up their new foes. At which point she finally noticed a rather strange phenomena; a flash of light wherever her bullets hit. Huh, well that’s… New.
A moment later Jin was dashing down the butte towards a badlander who was unwise enough to leave their vehicle. It made him easy prey for her sister’s unsheathed blade, the rapier stabbing into the fool’s side. Leaving behind a red mark.
“What the shit…” Sable mumbled to herself in unison with Jin’s “what the hell.” Growling, the older sister looked to the sky and roared, “WHY DON’T THIS SHIT COME WITH AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL!”
All the while she continued firing her big bore revolver, now utilizing the flash to blind drivers and make them crash into each other. Ha! Suck it, she thought when the monster truck drove over a small car, crushing it and its driver.
“You figure out your shit yet?” Sable called down to her sister, “apparently my bullets, uh, flash when they hit?” She couldn’t help but wonder if they could do something else too… And also why the ground was shaking more, despite the facts that their numbers were slowly dwindling and no reinforcements were in sight.
