As Kurai and Seere spent more time with Panya her personality became more evident. Despite initially appearing shy if there was something that piqued her interest she had no problem asking questions or being adventurous. She also liked old-fashioned things. Not just because she was an archaeologist. It was the fact she took the torch from the demon instead of the flashlight the young man offered. Not that it was unexpected. “I did not hear much. While I was preparing our vehicle for the race I overheard a few young men talking about the cave. They did not mention what was inside. I hope you are correct and we find a relic.” While their reasoning may be different both Panya and Seere shared an interest in finding treasure. She seemed to want to put it in a museum or use it to benefit others, but the demon simply wanted to know its location and uses. Knowledge is power. Kurai was more focused on the other things they would find down here. Knowing Earth-Chan there was going to be some sort of monster down here with them. Which was most likely whatever was making that noise Panya heard. Good. He spent some time during the trip leveling up and was hoping he'd get the chance to test out his new abilities. “I'll go check it out. Get ready for anything.” Kurai turned to see where she was looking and used his flashlight to shine a bit farther than her torch. He didn't see anything at first, but after taking a few steps something appeared in his line of sight. A small horde of skeletons that were practically already on them! “Nothing can ever be easy, huh? Be careful!”By the time the words left his mouth one of the skeletons was swiping at Kurai. He'd seen them too late to avoid the first attack of the bony creatures. The skeletons were somewhat slow so he jumped back before the others could get hold of him. A blast of dark gray energy shot the one clinging to his shirt. “Damn things! Thanks Seere!” A blast of red energy shot out at the skeleton that stunned it just long enough for him to grab hold of its skull. The skeleton was pretty sturdy however as it continued to move around. He kept hold of the monster while the mark on the back of his hand branded itself into his opponent. The head crumbled away and the rest of the bones grew limp as the skeleton returned to death. “How are you holding up Panya?”De/buffs: Utopia Bandanna (+20% VIT and WIL. Kurai let out a long string of curses before swiping at the popup that appeared in front of his eyes. He always hated that damn automated customer service response. What made it even worse was they threw in the word 'survival' as some sort of sick joke. While that was going on the mysterious man that suddenly appeared was being much more productive. Their spear quickly became embedded in the other guard's chest before exploding with dark gray energy. The force of the blast sent the body flying back into the room. With their summoner's opponents defeated they turned to face the young men they protected. As expected they had numerous questions. The tutorial of this game was unforgiving after all. “You are correct, Yasuko. It was Kurai whom I am contracted with and who has summoned me. I am duty-bound to protect him.”Before the man could explain further more screens appeared in front of Kurai like a video game tutorial. Now that he had someone to let out all his frustrations on about the situation he “What the hell is an Earth-Chan? That's the thing that kidnapped us and now we're just expected to put our lives on the line for something we don't even know?!” All of this was too much. How did anyone expect him to accept that life turned into a game? His life was out there, but this was just ridiculous! But how else could you explain everything that was going on? Technology was advancing day by day, but something like that wasn't possible, right? “Damn. Yeah... I guess I'm the summoner. Shit, does this have to do with that class selection thing before? What did I pick again? The Red Right Hand?” The mark on the back of his hand projected a red menu that looked like a character sheet from a game. Crap this was all real, wasn't it? The weird popups had a good plan for them to survive. They could figure this all out once they were safe. “Whatever these messages are is right. Let's get in there and then we can figure this out. Turn off this alarm while we're at it. Youuuuu.....” The man stood at attention as he gave his introduction. “I am known by many names. The Seventh Prince Of Hell. Graceful Traveler. Glint In The Dark. You may call me... Seere.” Kurai blinked a few times as tried to take Yasuko's hand. He gave the man a suspicious look and a wide berth as he made his way into the security room. “Stay out here and keep watch. Let us know if you see anyone else.” “As you command.”Once he, and hopefully Yasuko as well, were inside the room Kurai shut the door behind them. “I can't believe this is happening. I can summon demons now? Christ... What can you do?” He then began fiddling around with the menu projected from the back of his hand. De/buffs: N/A Used: N/A deedee yasuko

While Seere was excellent at gathering information about old or abandoned places Kurai focused more on things that sounded fun. After traveling around so many places he managed to hear about a festival going on in Los Angeles. It seems that a few members of the LGBTQ+ community were planning a get-together to celebrate those who survived into the new world. Why not go and see who he could meet? Having more reliable party members was never a bad idea after all. Though he wasn't sure how many reliable people he would find here. Each of the entrances was decorated with a large arch and banner that read 'LA Pride 2023'. Despite all his running away and sneaking around, this was his first festival outside of traditional events. Kurai was excited to see all the people with bright-colored hair like his. It was one of the few times he didn't seem so out of place. Upon entering he immediately set his sights on the first booth available to him. It was a food stand at which he ordered a plate of nachos. While Kurai ate his snack he began to look around the area for anyone of interest. De/buffs: Black And White (+10% VIT and Healing Effectiveness), Utopia Bandanna (+20% VIT and WIL. With their race finished and their Sphinx Statue trophies collected Kurai and Panya decided to take a trip to some old ruins. Why break up such a good pair? Besides Seere figured the woman had more questions brewing in her mind. Her curiosity seemed just as vast as his own. Exploring something old was the perfect chance to answer them all. They'd just finished a race in the desert so why not continue in a similar area? Being the rumormonger that he is Seere managed to catch wind of a newly discovered area while walking around Motor City. To that end, the demon guided the pair to an underground cave in the nearby Badlands. The only thing he knew about their destination was its location. Kurai's mode of transportation this time was the pure black twin of the pegasus that their summon rode. Of course, they offered Panya a ride on either as well. When they arrived they both returned their mounts from whence they came. The site was fairly obvious as the cave mouth stuck out of the ground. Before going in Seere made sure to investigate the entrance. They couldn't see far before the darkness overtook their sight. “Our vision will be restricted when we descend into the ruins. We have torches you may use if you require,” they said to Panya. After which Kurai took a flashlight out of his inventory and offered one to her as well. “We'll go in whenever you're ready.”De/buffs: Utopia Bandanna (+20% VIT and WIL. As Hikari asked about the demon Kurai was about to answer, but when he opened his mouth to speak he was cut off by Seere. “Yes. We are bound together by this so-called system.” “With more to come too! If my Class description is anything to go by at least. I gain favor with demons after doing certain things. Like missions and all that.”
Once again Kurai was about to speak when Hikari said something that caused a mischievous smile to spread across his face. Then Hana chimed in as well and he dismissively waved a hand in her direction. “Forget it. You're lucky Hikari just saved your wallet. She knows just what to say to get me on her side.” There was nothing that he enjoyed doing more than spiting their father.
Despite his sister's warning Kurai tried to think of what he would do about the bots because just hanging back and watching was boring. While he did so he decided to explain his Class a bit to Hana. Maybe he could get something out of her after all. “Well, I plan on leveling up real soon anyway. Maybe just as soon as we get out of here. My Class is called the Red Right Hand. It uses Defense and Magic. All of it revolves around summoning my demons so far. Seere is the only one I've been able to contract, however.”
Hana's plan seemed reasonable except for one thing: it didn't include him. Also she just up and disappeared. Whatever she wasn't what he was actually interested in anyway. She seemed fairly strange. In any case, Kurai and Seere found a safe spot to hide from the mechanical guards while Hikari and Hana dealt with them. As much as he hated to admit it he was severely underpowered for the current situation.

Once again Panya did all the heavy lifting when it came to solving the riddle. Despite the vast amount of information Kurai was forced to consume by his father during his life he wasn't very good at word problems. Long ones like the booming voice of the golem just recited to them were especially troublesome. Thankfully she was here to take care of the actual hard work. If not for her he likely wouldn't have made it this far. He'd have run into the large wall they encountered during the first riddle.
While Panya worked her way towards the answer Kurai kept a close eye on the giant looming in the distance. He didn't expect it to do anything until they answered, but you never know. At least they didn't have to maneuver around the crashed vehicle of their opponent. Not that it would be much of a problem since the pegasus was actually the one guiding the cart. They did have to swerve to stop from running into the massive boulder in the middle of the track, however.
Thankfully Panya came up with an answer fairly quickly. Now Kurai could only hope that she shouted out the correct one. Judging from the lack of a boulder being thrown at them it seemed she was right. He cheered once more when a finish line rose out of the track in front of them. “Panya you did it! We've finished the race!” He quite literally jumped for joy as they crossed the checkered line on the ground.
The cart slowed down until it finally stopped a few feet beyond the finish line. A much smaller golem than the one chucking boulders at the competitors rose from the ground nearby. It walked towards them all and attempted to hand each of the people in the vehicle a stone trophy. “Yo sweet! This will make a perfect souvenir!” Kurai laughed out loud and patted Seere on the shoulder. “So... Wanna team up again to go do something else Panya?”

Yasuko had a good point about hospitals doing all sorts of stuff in labs. Well, that was mostly in movies and stuff like that, but with the situation they found themselves in could Kurai really say it was all that unlikely? Everything seemed staged to get them to play along with whatever it was their captors wanted. “We'll probably have to check it out at some point to... 'save the patients' or whatever it was that mission wanted us to do.” He said with no small amount of disgust in his voice. As much as he hated it they'd have to play along to get out of here. For now at least.
Just when Kurai thought he saw a ray of hope in the situation things quickly turned sour for the pair. The security room that he thought would finally allow him to turn off the alarm instead turned out to have yelling people. “Shit. I don't know, but they weren't happy we were here. Why the hell would kidnappers leave a security room unlocked? I mean... that was them, right? Who else would be here?”
It didn't take long for the door he slammed shut just moments before to fling open again. Kurai quickly put a hand on Yasuko's chest and pushed them back as he backed away from the door. Once more the guards began yelling questions at them like 'Who are you people?!' and 'How did you get here?!' “What the hell? What do you mean?! You're the ones that brought us here!”
Or so he thought. The guns that were suddenly pointed at the two of them quickly changed his mind about that. Who would go through all the trouble of setting this up just to try to kill them? It made no sense.
Despite Kurai's familiarity with their previous situation, this new predicament was one he hadn't experienced before. Not from a kidnapper at least. With all the fights he got in it was inevitable that he ran into someone brandishing a knife or other such thing. However, he couldn't help but fear for his life when coming face to face with an actual deadly weapon.
Before he could react the pentacle that suddenly appeared on the back of his hand began to glow. Not that anyone could see it beneath the blazer he wrapped around it. That didn't stop the same mark from appearing on the ground in front of Kurai though. The smell of sulfur filled the hallway and the guards put their fingers on their triggers. He waved his arms in front of him causing the blazer to fall off his hand. “Hey! Whoa whoa whoa! There's no need for all this!”
Almost as soon as the words left his mouth the pentacle on the ground shot a pillar of red light into the ceiling. “What the hell is going on?!” Kurai didn't know what to expect next, but it certainly wasn't a spear thrusting out from the opposite side of the mark. The silver spear adorned with purple gems cut clean through one of the guns aimed at the pair before piercing through the throat of the man holding it.
“Holy shit...” That was all Kurai could manage to utter in response to the sheer absurdity of the situation. The red light emanating from the mark on the ground dissipated and what was left in its wake was a man. A man clad in heavy silver armor with gold trim and adorned with purple gems. Horns graced both sides of their head reaching above their short blonde hair.
They forcefully removed their spear from the guard's body and simply stood their ground in front of Kurai. With the sickening gurgle of a man choking on his own blood, the guard fell to the ground clutching their throat. The man kept his back to the pair as they spoke in a deep monotone voice. “So, at last we meet, Summoner.”

Kurai was glad that the surveys were all done and that they could move on to the main mission they were here for. Well, the one that popped up after they arrived at the island anyway. That wasn't his original intention when he decided to visit The Devil's Triangle.
All Kurai wanted to do was see if he could find some cool new book or something demonic for his class. All he found however was some imps he couldn't interact with directly. Not yet at least.
How did he end up getting himself dragged to a cemetery in search of... a ghost? At the beck and call of some mostly unknown entity at that. Somehow Kurai got caught up in the excitement of the island and allowed himself to be manipulated by that bastard Earth-Chan. This sudden realization was enough to instantly sour his mood.
While Seere was searching the graves for any clue on how to find or summon the spirit Kurai found himself a comfortable spot to sit down. After taking a large leather-bound book from his inventory he leaned back against one of the gravestones. He was reading one of his many books about western magics when Lowell called out that one of the wolves found something. He unenthusiastically raised a fist in the air in some sort of mock fist pump. “Woo. Go wolf. Tell us what you found.”

The place even had a barracks built into the old ruins? It seemed like the small girl had more in mind than just survival when they were putting the building together. Was she planning a war or something? Whatever. More weapons for him.
God for a girl that never talks she sure doesn't shut up. When did someone ask for her whole damn life story? What a strange girl. From the sounds of things Dee Dee actually wasn't bullied enough in school since she turned out like this. What kind of parents would feed into this delusion? Kurai had a feeling he'd mostly be keeping to himself here.
Finally, they made it to the mess hall and he could eat something. Or so he thought. Instead, Dee Dee led the group over to her food cart while he grumbled to himself. The menu was so strange. Who dedicates an entire section to tomatoes? They didn't even serve alcohol to help him take his mind off the annoying situation.
“I bet you can't make a doughnut in your cart.” At the mention of sweets a red pentacle traced on the ground behind him and the area quickly began to smell like sulfur. From it sprouted a tall man in silver armor who immediately walked up to the cart. They held up two fingers before speaking in a monotone voice. “Two maple bars.” While the demon ordered something that you'd never see fresh on a mobile cart the others made reasonable requests. The maids ordered fish as expected and Lowell wanted steak for his wolves. Why did one of them want bread though?

Kurai wasn't entirely sure what was happening on top of the carriage. He could hear Panya shouting for the pair, but they were too focused on trying to navigate the treacherous terrain. It wasn't until Seere the stalactite coming at their vehicle was destroyed that the demon turned around to see what was happening. Unfortunately, she had already slipped off by the time they noticed.
Thankfully she was a resourceful woman and managed to find her way back into the cart. It didn't take long for her to embrace Kurai in celebration. “I think you did more work than I did, but thanks! We're not out of the woods yet though.” The smell of her lilac perfume helped ease his mind as they all heard a loud booming voice from off the track reciting another riddle.
“First think of the person who lives in disguise, who deals in secrets and tells naught but lies. Next, tell me what’s always the last thing to mend, the middle of middle and end of the end? And finally, give me the sound often heard during the search for a hard-to-find word. Now string them together, and answer me this, which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?”
Kurai groaned as he racked his brain to figure out the answer again. “Of course there's another riddle. At least there's not another wall we need to dodge.” That wasn't what he should have been worrying about however as their final competitor shouted out their answer. “Man?”
It quickly became apparent that answer was not correct as there was little warning before the ground began to shake once more. Looking over at the golem off the track the group could see it pulling a large boulder out of the ground. “Uh... Guess it's not leaving us alone after all...” He said as it launched the boulder onto the track at their opponent. Lucky for them it didn't strike them head on as they swerved to dodge, but the force of the impact sent them flying off the track. All it did was shake their cart and cause them to swerve for a bit. “Shit. We better guess right if we don't want to die.”

Kurai patted his sister on the back in return. It was good to see her again. Well to see anyone he liked again. Seemed she was still wound as tightly as ever judging from how she spoke. “Yeah I'm still kicking somehow. I'm glad to see you're still around too. And haven't changed at all...” No matter how much he previously wished she would loosen up after being removed from their father's control.
The topic of conversation quickly changed to others in the group: his sister's Guildmaster as well as his own companion. By now they had lowered their spear and begun approaching the trio. Kurai nodded his head to Hana's bow and mumbled a quiet greeting in return. “No. I didn't want to find my family. I came here to burn the bad memories.” He said rather harshly before pointing a thumb over at Hikari with a smile. “This one being the exception of course.”
When the other man joined them they placed their spear at their side with a thud as the butt of it was pressed against the ground. “Yeah. You could say we did our Tutorial together. Us, some cute Japanese guy with pink hair, and a doctor that disappeared.” The demon nodded before explaining further. “I am Seere. The Seventh Prince Of Hell and Kurai's summon.” Kurai then held up his right hand to show off the red pentacle on the top.
He rubbed his chin as he heard them both say they wanted to take over the old building. A thought crossed his mind and Kurai couldn't help but chuckle. He said his next words with a smirk on his face. “Sure. I suppose I could put off my vendetta for a bit. How much do you wanna rent out the space for?” The building did technically belong to him now after all.
Kurai smiled back at Hikari and let a puff of air out through his nose. “Yeah yeah. And I always told you that that thing leaves a trail.” What awaited them after she opened the door was completely unexpected. “HA! Level forty! No, I'm still stuck at one.” He couldn't stop giggling while trying to speak it took much longer than it should have to get it out. “Whatever. I can run if I need to. Plus I can probably make a bomb if I tried hard enough.” Maybe those jugs of gasoline would come in handy after all.

Kurai completely agreed with Yasuko's assessment of the hospital. Despite spending his fair share in a hospital room after several incidents he hadn't seen something like this before. Even when he got himself into the places he shouldn't have been. “Ain't that the truth. As if it being abandoned wasn't creepy enough. It looks like someone already looted the place.” Something he'd been planning to do, but nothing useful remained. At least not anything that wasn't already long expired. How long had this place been here?
Thankfully Yasuko managed to find the key to the door, but it was too little too late. Being the impatient man that he was Kurai had already triggered the alarm. Shit. If only he waited a few seconds longer. As he let out a long string of expletives his partner came over to unlock the door. It didn't do anything to stop the alarm, but at least they were able to get through the door now.
As he opened the heavy steel door Kurai answered loudly so he could be heard over the siren. “Yeah looks like the stealthy option is out of the question. Let's hope there's some way to turn off the alarm when we get in there.” He then proceeded forward into the clean white hallway behind the door. The hall seemed sterile and almost new.
Kurai walked down it until the pair found themselves in the middle of a crossroad. Three halls stretched out in a cross pattern around them. A sign on each one showed them what awaited at the end of each one. The left read 'storage'. The one in front of them apparently lead to a security room. Finally, the sign on the hall to the right had 'laboratory' on it.
He looked over at the other man with him and sighed. “Let's shut off this damn alarm. Fucking thing is giving me a headache and all this flashing isn't helping anytime.” Kurai blinked a few times and rubbed his eyes before continuing. At the end of the hall, he was met with another large door. This one didn't seem to be locked at least.
Kurai didn't seem to learn his lesson as he moved to open the door before consulting Yasuko once again. After yanking open the door he was greeted by a wall covered in small screens showing the live feed of functioning cameras. As well as two men sitting in office chairs staring at the pair in the doorway. They quickly began shouting about how they shouldn't be here and charging at them both.
Once they got out of their chairs Kurai quickly closed the door. “Wow. This really just can't be easy huh?”

Kurai nodded in response to Lowell's statement. “True that would really suck. There are all kinds of people out there that would want these creatures for who knows what reasons.” Hell if he felt like it with Seere's help he could probably recruit the imps they were going to see. That was probably an endeavor for another day though.
He was glad that Lowell was an agreeable man and put up with his shenanigans. If Kurai was paired up with a less patient man this mission could have gone badly. Thankfully the wolves were tame and didn't put up much of a fight either. One of them even kept an eye on Seere in case they ran too far ahead again.
Hmm, Lowell brought up a good point. They'd been here for a decent amount of time but hadn't seen hide nor hair of the spirit they were tasked to help. Kurai was rubbing his chin in thought when Seere piped up. “Perhaps the graves I saw could be of help.” He sighed heavily as the demon once again revealed they had information they didn't divulge. It took all he had to stop himself from taking a swing at his summon. “Again you don't tell me everything! Just show us where it is!”
When they were finished recording the information they needed for their survey Seere guided the way to a small cemetery. If you could call five gravestones a cemetery. Once they arrived Kurai began looking around the area for any clues that may point them towards their goal. “Any idea what we should be looking for?”

Well, here it was. His old house. Well, mansion was more accurate. After being brought to this new world he always intended to return, but he didn't think it would be so soon. Or that it would look so empty from the outside. He didn't see any of the telltale signs that the staff were at work right off. Oh well, that just made his job easier.
With a lighter in his pocket and more than a few jugs of gasoline in his inventory, he made his way to the least defended entrance to the building. The side door that he used numerous times to escape his overly controlling father. Luckily Kurai still had his keys in his pocket when he was transported to the abandoned hospital. The mace he was preparing to swing like a baseball bat suggested he had another idea on how to open it.
However, Kurai wasn't alone in this endeavor. A man in heavy dark grey armor with gold highlights, a similar spear, and two horns stood behind him. When the ever-vigilant man heard someone else nearby the demon raised their weapon in the women's direction. “What are you doing?” He asked them before lowering his mace and looking where they were pointing.
What he saw was beyond his expectations. There was no mistaking the woman that he was looking at. It was his sister alive and in the flesh. What were the chances? As he ran over the her and her unknown companion he waved an arm in the air. Unfortunately, that was the one holding his mace... “Yo Hikari!” The moment he was close enough he jumped into the air and dove at her. Hopefully into her waiting arms.
