As she neared the convoy location, Aliyah got a notification from earth-chan that her level-up bonus had been processed, raising her up all the way to level 26. Raising her magic to B and willpower to A "Oh Orion look. I'm level 26 now. And my core upgraded too." the witch said, her tone joyful before glancing over to see that Orion had also gone through a transformation.[break][break]
"I feel more powerful. Faster as well." the raven stated, aligning himself on a nearby rooftop as Aliyah joined him. Opening her status screen, she began to go over what other changes had been made with her leveling up.[break][break]
"You've gotten a new ability, Orion. It's pretty neat, seems to be an ice version of Aquila's static wind except it's based on your power and you can lower people's defenses instead of speed." she stated before going over Aquila's abilities. "You also seemed to have evolved into a tengu raven, whatever that means.[break][break]
" So Aquila got his lightning bolt ability back. His focus seems to be on magic and speed while Orion is on speed and power. Combine that with my illusion ability and we should be able to handle anything that comes out way provided it's close to our stats." she thought before turning back to Orion.[break][break]
"We should get going, we still have to finish the mission."

"Should any monsters happen to attack the convoy, we'll be using them as training for you and Aquila Orion." Aliyah stated, sparing a glance over at the raven.[break][break]
"Of course. It's only natural that we would need to learn about my capabilities as well as work on teamwork with Aquila in a somewhat safe environment quoth I" Orion ended with a strange verbal tick.[break][break]
"...was that Shakespeare? Why are you quoting Shakespeare all of a sudden?" she asked, bewildered at this sudden change in personality from her long-time companion. "Is this a result of his supposed evolution into a tengu raven?" she pondered worry in her eyes. "Should I be wary of any more personality changes as he progresses in levels?"[break][break]
She hoped that this was just a result of Orion becoming more intelligent and not some sort of extreme shift in personality. She was in an unknown territory with the changes made to the world and Orion had been her one constant through the beginning months, even saving her life during the tutorial. "If it wasn't for him, I'd be dead...please don't change Orion. You're all the family that I have left."

The pair's arrival at the convoy location was met with some tension as some of the other players had initially assumed that she and Orion had been monsters coming to attack and reacted accordingly. That Aliyah had to stop Orion from retaliating with his icy wind attack was negligible compared to the tongue-lashing she had given them for attacking her.[break][break]
"If all of you are going to be so trigger-happy that you're attacking anything that moves then none of you need to be here. I could have gotten seriously hurt" she chastised the other 3 members as Orion glared at them from her shoulder.[break][break]
It had only been because of her high willpower stat that she had managed to stay calm in the face of the fireball that had been sent her way. Her ice beak attack had made quick work of it and bought her the time to get closer so that the 3 men could see that she was in fact human and not a monster.[break][break]
"Sorry about that miss. We all just recently spawned in and this is our first mission after our tutorial so we're just a bit on edge." One of the men said. They all appeared to be in their early 20s; one being Latin, another one vaguely European and the last being a Japanese man.[break][break]
"That's fine. Just be careful next time, please." she sighed before turning to the merchant. "Good afternoon, my name is Aliyah and this is Orion. A pleasure to meet you and I hope you find my protection services to be worth your money."[break][break]

The merchant looked somewhat skeptically at Aliyah, no doubt mentally dismissing her because of her young age. "...I'm sure we'll be fine." he said, glancing away before climbing into his boat alongside his supplies. The other 3 men quickly joined him and Aliyah climbed inside as Orion took off from her shoulder, electing to scout ahead before they took off down the flooded streets of NYC[break][break]
"So if you don't mind me asking. What can you do? I'm Takashi btw and I'm a mage." the Japanese man spoke up from beside her. "That's Pierre, he's a warrior and Luis can make barriers," he said, pointing at the other two men who waves at their introduction.[break][break]
"I can befriend birds or anything bird-like. And of course, you saw the ice spike that I could make," the witch stated in a straightforward manner. Of course, that wasn't all that she was capable of but that would be all that she would be revealing to them at the moment.[break][break]
"Seen way too books and movies about post-apocalyptic worlds for me to be too trusting of everyone I met." Aliyah thought, sparing a glance at the 3 men around her. She knew just how dangerous it was for a girl her age to be traveling around unaccompanied and that fear had played a part in her deciding to funnel her stats into willpower and magic. She didn't want to live the rest of her life in fear and needed to be able to defend herself.

The first delivery stop went off without a hitch. The members of this community looked so grateful to receive the supplies that they were singing the group praises even after they left.[break][break]
"Guess it never really occurred to me just how much some people were screwed over by the changes. If you're incapable of raising your levels, then you're pretty much screwed." she thought, feeling pity for the families that she saw.[break][break]
It was as they were on their way to the next location that Orion returned, bringing news of monster sighting.[break][break]
"Heads up. Orion stated he saw 3 monsters up ahead." she warned, causing the group to perk up. "He didn't get a good look at them since they were mostly underwater but the little that he did she says that they're some kind of snake."[break][break]
The 3 players all seemed to be eager and were busy pumping themselves up for battle while the merchant merely looked contemplative and slightly nervous though he didn't change course.[break][break]
"Guess I get to see what they can do."

"Is there perhaps a way that we can avoid the monsters?" The merchant asked, his tone coming across a bit hesitant as he made his request.[break][break]
Aliyah turned back to Orion, the pair cawing as she questioned him if such a thing was possible. The 4 men stared at the conversation, bewildered, as they had never heard anything like it before; Luis going as far as to make a joke before bring quieted by the his companions.
"We can't but there is a possible solution. I could lure them away from you all, leaving the path free." she offered which was quickly drowned out by their protests.[break][break]
"We couldn't possibly"[break][break]
"You're just a kid, there's no way"[break][break]
"What kind of people do you take us for?"[break][break]
Aliyah merely patiently waited for them have their say. Once they all quieted down, she spoke up.[break][break]
"1. None of you are able to fly. 2. Most of you are close-range fighters which limits your options. 3. I don't plan to get into a fight, just lure them away. 4. I'm faster than you all." she said with an air of finality as she activated her raven cloak and flew off, Orion accompanying her.

"Was the dramatic exit really necessary? Quoth I. You're not even really faster than them." Orion asked as Orion lead her to the location of the snakes.[break][break]
"I didn't feel like dealing with them anymore. I could see it in their faces that none of them thought me capable and needed to protect me." the witch stated, rolling her eyes. "Besides, you said that none if the monsters you found looked particularly strong."[break][break]
After 5 minutes, Orion indicated that they were nearing the location so Aliyah elected to land on a nearby rooftop to observe.[break][break]
"They don't look that bad. Just big I guess" she muttered before summoning Aquila, the Thunder Hawk appearing in a spark of electricity.[break][break]
"What may I do for you, my Lady" he asked, giving a bow with his wing to Orion's approval.[break][break]
She debated for a few moments whether she wanted to address now before ultimately deciding not to for her own piece of mind.[break][break]
"Aquila. We're on a mission right now and broke off from the main group to subjugate some monsters. You in?"
"Do you even need to ask?" Aquila fired back as sparks of electricity danced across his body.

3 snakes basked atop a partially submerged broken piece of skyscraper, enjoying the sun's rays. Each of them were at least 3 meters in length and seemed to be a hybrid of a boa constrictor and king cobra.[break][break]
One of them slowly awoke, hissing irritability at the sudden wind chill that swept in as it glanced toward the sky.[break][break]
It was confused when it saw no change in the weather and was about to Hiss at its companions when a blast of cold wind slammed into all three of them, startling the other two awake as ice began to creep up their scales.[break][break]
The attack was quickly followed up by a gale of electrified wind, severely shocking and killing 2 of the snakes. The last one was barely clinging to life when a beak made of ice slammed into its head, killing it.[break][break]
"You guys can have that one. I'll be taking the other two" Aliyah stated as she alighted atop the building, framed by her summons.[break][break]

With the monsters defeated and the remaining corpses put into her inventory, Aliyah once again took off into the air alongside her flock to scout out ahead and deal with a few more weak monsters, allowing the merchant to complete his trip far ahead of schedule.[break][break]
