Not that in which he had shared with his now deceased child and wife but the home in which he himself had grown up in as a child. As the reasoning as to why he was here?? Well it was rather simple: He had been here to acquire any potential goods that his family might have left behind. They had been rather eccentric collectors after all. Having believed in magic from the beginning, he was sure that they would have gathered decent items that might have become all the better in this new world. [break][break] Even with that having been the reason for his arrival in New York though, there was a bit of an issue with this plan... The city had changed so drastically that it was going to be near impossible for him to locate the place!! How was he supposed to reach a penthouse when the buildings had elongated themselves past realistic proportions?? The fact that so many buildings had been trampled via the activities of others up to this point as well... Honestly, none of this was ideal. For all the searching that he had done, he simply couldn't find the home that he had set out for. [break][break] Whilst he was unable to locate the one thing that he had been searching for in this moment, there was another thing here that had managed to maintain his attention at least. From what he had picked up, thanks to others talking about it, there was supposedly a mission in the area. One that was open to any individual that was willing to take it. The mission was referred to as Gutter Crawl and had more or less required individuals to head down into the sewers to clean up a few nasty creatures. Calico had no idea what the hell he was doing in New York. Not only had he never fucking been here before but he knew no one here. He guessed with the state of the world he was rendered to wandering around. Having so many plans but no guidance was really weighting on him; he wanted to do so many things with his new found freedom but all of them seemed like such big grandiose ideas it was starting to frustrate him. he sighed heavily taking a few deep breathes as he focused himself. "You know my granny, god rest that lovely ladies soul." He spoke aloud.[break][break]
Currently he sat in a car, its radio was turned on with the ignition running. Sitting in card with his friends and cousins was a pass time he loved doing as a child. Now, he surmised he was one of the only people who could even turn on a car let alone drive His foot outstretched pressed directly to the face of a rather stocky looking man who seemed to be bleeding out of several places. "She said to take each day one step at a time. To focus when I felt frustrated and overwhelmed with the task at hand." He stared the man in the eyes tilting his head.[break][break]
"I guess I could start with pre-guild recruitment huh?" He tapped his dirty shoe against the man's face who grimaced staying silent. [break][break]
"Okay thiccums tell me about this gutter crawl." He clasped his hands together smiling slightly as he looked down to the man.[break][break]
About an hour had passed when Calico found himself diving deep in the guts of New York. This city was fucking disgusting and even more so was this damned sewer, the bowels of New York were an atrocious place and he knew not to come ill-equipped. Donning chest high leather coveralls and matching thick boots, Calico fastened a white nose and mouth covering gas mask before he'd proceed. He figured if any others were coming down here he'd get to know them, he only trusted certain people with his oncoming plans.[break][break]

Figuring that he might as well get on with the mission, Balthazar would lower himself down into the manhole. Once he had set foot in the sewers, he had immediately thrown his hand to his nose. The smell that had been coming from the sewers on its own was horrid but now, now that all the sewage treatment workers had gone missing, the smell was all the worse. Honestly, he should have better prepared himself for such a thing. A horrid hazard of the mission.. One that he will be sure to keep in mind in the future.

"Nine hells.. This is disgusting.." Slowly but surely overcoming the stench, Balthazar would call upon a spirit. Unsurprisingly, this spirit would take on the guise of one of the sewage treatment workers that he had so honestly wished for at the moment. The kicker here though?? The mans entire lower half had been missing, almost as though it was devoured. "I.. suppose that you'll do for now. So tell me, spirit, what dwells within the area??" It was through this question that Balthazar would come to hear of another individual nearby. A living one, that is. "Oh?? Take me there."

Only a few minutes would transpire before Balthazar had come upon said individual. "Yo. I don't suppose that you're undertaking the Gutter Crawl mission, are you?" He had seriously hoped that this had been the case. Otherwise this was just some kind of weirdo that liked making their way through the sewers. Even with the fact that they had been so geared up to fight the environment of the sewers, for health reasons anyways, the fact that they could possibly be a weirdo remained.

As he had awaited a response from the man before him, the spirit that had been following Balthazar would whisper something into his ear. "There are creatures down this path.. Rats and Bats." Useful information that Balthazar had planned on relaying to the individual in a moment, depending on how the man had chosen to react to his own question. "If you are then perhaps we can party up and take care of things together."

Calico's time had been spent navigating the sewers on his own. He took his time, he was in no rush, and with how slippery and dirty this place was he figured rushing would be far more detrimental. He came well prepared, each and every job he undertook when he was still leading his gang came with not only research(in the form of stake outs, and stalking) but equipment preparation. He told his guys that this was damn near half the job, information was almost everything. He had since pulled out large gloves that traveled up to his elbows, holding up a backpack he put on right before taking out a raincoat and placing it right on top of his entire outfit. He refused to get any of this sewer shit and piss on himself; he made a mental note to take several showers after this.[break][break]
When Balthazar had finally gotten to him he'd see the well equipped man's back facing him. Calico turned looking directly at the man as his footsteps neared. There was something dark in his eyes, something that spoke slightly of rage, maybe even murderous intent; there was something bad, a tainted phenomena. But whatever it was quickly subsided before Balthazar could get a good look, the menacing aura of Calico's hooded face was accentuated by the gear he wore. One that ebbed backwards like a waiting tsunami when he reached up, wiping the mask down slightly with as much as his upper forearm as possible. A bright smile was etched on his face, one that seemed warm and genuine. "Yeah I am. You hear doing that too? Thank god I ran into someone; I was beginning to think I'd be doing this shit all alone...haha no pun intended."[break][break]
Underneath Calico's feet were rats, it seemed the man had already encountered the devilish spawn which set out to eat him in swarms. He rose a bright flashlight along the path; attempting to see his next steps which illuminated the way, unknowingly showing the carnage he had enacted on this part of the sewer. Bats and rats alike laid split in half or crushed underneath his large boots. It was at this point Balthazar would get a notification through the system—a party invite. "Party up with me." It was almost like a demand, as if Balthazar was already claimed by this man.[break][break]
Yet there was no clear authoritative air about it, it was more stern in the way a older brother or father would be; a tough vocal reasoning to keep them both alive. He'd take a few steps forward appearing solemn and blank yet, friendly. "I got some extra gear if you want it." He said pushing his mask back up."[break][break]
"This place fucking sucks and the smell is horrible. I got an extra mask and a raincoat, you can hit those up if you want to. If not fine by me too."[break][break]

Upon further examination, there were several things about this man that Balthazar simply couldn't trust. The first and foremost of these things though was the way that he had just changed his entire aura. Not only had he briefly held that bout of murderous intent... but he had covered it up as though it was nothing. A ghost of a feeling. One that Balthazar didn't take too kindly too. With that having been the case, Balthazar had decided to feign ignorance and to simply keep an eye on the man. If he was going to be attacked by this man then he was at least going to be prepared for it.

"I... Yeah, sure. Let's party up. It's more or less the offer that I extended to you anyways." With little more than a flick of the wrist, Balthazar would accept the party invite and begin to survey the information that was provided to him.. A name and a class for the individual that he had just partied with. Mori, the Restless Shaman. Figuring that it would be best to keep this information to himself, Balthazar would introduce himself. "I would gladly accept the additional gear."

Once the gear had been provided to him, Balthazar would throw every bit of it on. He wasn't above wanting to stay safe in such a disgusting place. "...anyways, I'm Balthazar. And according to my friend here," he would say as he gestures to the incorporeal half eaten worker, "there are quite a few of our targets down this pathway. Calico was observant as well, NOWHEREKING the Occultist was something he took a mental note of. He liked the title, he wasn't sure what this man did but such audacity had to come from somewhere. He waited for the man to put on the gear he gave, helping him in the ways he could. After it all was said and done he closed the backpack up and put it on underneath his raincoat once more. "I'm Mori, what do you go by friend?" His raspy gravely tone asked in a polite manner which conflicted with his overall vibe.[break][break]
He rose the flashlight which illuminated the path of bodies. "And yeah I figured they were in this direction. Figured that out from how many tried to attack me. Fancied I'd go in this direction and see what I could drag out. Plus the light seems to help."
Calico turned slowing a bit to allow the man a chance to walk beside him. "I'm sure the gutter crawl wasn't your first choice of missions. So what made you choose this one?" He looked deep into the mans eyes.[break][break]
Calico was trying to identify with something deeper in the mans core. He had become good with identifying things in people that he could resonate with. It was these things that allowed him to connect with people, he had figured out bonds were the best way to get people to your side. Yet, he didn't want just anyone no, he needed those more depraved, those which had a bit of darkness. if he was going to make a criminal underbelly guild other likeminded would be his target. He wondered if Balthazar had corruption in him. If he did, if he had even an inkling Calico was sure he could find it. That he could bond with him.

As the duo would continue with their introductions, Balthazar would turn his gaze towards the spirit. "I don't much care for what people wish to call me.. I suppose that I still go by Balthazar though. Either that or King. The system... has some particular interests in me going by that for some reason." Nothing more than a shrug could really be offered in response to the reasoning behind that. Even he wasn't all that sure about what it had meant. Other than the fact that he had consistently felt as though he belonged nowhere.

Once the two would depart from their current standing point and would begin to make their way through the sewers, Balthazar would begin to walk beside this Mori character. "As for the reason behind the mission..?? There isn't one. It was just something that I happened to come upon as I was making my way around here." A truth by technicality. "How about you..?? You seem to be exceptionally prepared for all of this. You seem even more prepared than this guy." As he would say this much, he would begin to gesture towards the spirit that was leading the way.

"Or better yet, tell me, what does it mean to be a restless shaman..??" From what he had understood, a shaman was a person regarded as having access to, and influence in, the world of good and evil spirits. Based off of that knowledge alone, it was pretty clear that the two had rather similar capabilities at the moment. Influence of spirits. Something that he never would have believed in before his descent. Even as he had asked the question to Mori, his eyes would bore straight into the mans, almost as though he was prying into his very soul.

As the two had continued their conversation, three rats that were about the size of a large dog, would come barreling towards them. "...disgusting." Not wanting to deal with these diseased vermin, Balthazar would reach out with a single hand and point towards the pack of rats. "Obtain your revenge." He would say as much to the spirit and in doing so would cause for it to soar through the air towards one of the rats. The spirits jaw would distend before collapsing down upon one of the rats, not outright killing it but at least harming it. Not that the rat would notice as it had continued towards the group.

It was evident that Balthazar himself was going to need to step in here. As such, he would reach out and place his palm upon the rat that had just been bitten. "Devour." The mans eyes would go lifeless for a moment as the life energy of the rat would be pulled from its body. A black dot of necrosis would begin to spread across the rats body as Balthazar had continued to drain it. 'Siphoning.. Siphoning.. Aspect [Plague] consumed.'

"That's pretty badass." He responded genuinely seeming surprised by the man's name and moniker.

He couldn't help but smile at the man's mention of his preparation. "I just really like being prepared, a skill I picked up over the years. Better safe than sorry my elders use to say. I've come to really vibe with that. It's been working out for me ever since I started it. Some people find it annoying but it really pays to have some form of a plan." His lingered forward as the conversation continued, going towards the subject of his class.

"I'unno just sort of got this class, been working with it every since. But if you ask me maybe the dead really don't rest. Maybe they are more active in the afterlife. I mean with the concepts of heaven, hell and rebirth how could anyone rest?" Their conversation came to a halt with the pattern of semi-large claws.

As they lurched forward one charged at Balthazar. The man seemed to handle it well, yet the other two were unaccounted for. Taking a lunging step forward Calico's whip lashed out snapping right into one of the beast they jumped up. The impact was a loud one, yet right on target. Hitting the beast right in the maw and upper face area it unable to sustain itself after injury flew right over them landing with a splash in the murky dirty water's to the side of them. The other would be met with a swift punch to the gut from Calico who turned to meet it.

It would fall to its side writing screeching out as if it was in an intense pain. An ancient sickly green marking would appear on its belly where it was hit. The mark slowly faded as the beast legs began to kick in agony. "Wanna do your thing?" Calico pointed at the last beast looking to Balthazar.

Balthazar couldn't help but laugh for a moment as this Mori fellow had gone on to exclaim just how cool his name had been. In his opinion, it wasn't the coolest thing in the world but then again, he could understand why others might think so. "Well I certainly can appreciate the fact that you enjoy my name. And the fact that your preparation is a skill of sorts. Not one provided by the system, I'm sure, but a more important one that has been ingrained into you."

Once the the fight had kicked off, Balthazar and Mori would go on to do their thing, leaving behind a singular rat. "Hm.. Yeah, I suppose that I can try and put an end to this one as well." While he wouldn't come right out and say it, at the moment, Balthazar and his spirits were rather ineffective in combat. This wasn't the kind of thing that would be permanent. It was just kind of how things were at this very moment. As such, Balthazar wasn't quite sure how useful he would be here. Not that he would ever learn if he didn't at least attempt it.

Taking a moment to gesture towards the remaining rat, Balthazar would speak to his spirit. "You know what to do. Don't fail me." And with that, the spirit would lunge from the corpse of one rat onto the body of the living one. It's jaw would distend once more and practically swallow the rat whole. Honestly.. It might have been a bit of overkill in this instance. Either way, it had seemed to get the job done. "At the moment, I can only make use of my Siphon ability once before it's cooldown activates. Give it a bit and I'll be able to pull it up again.. The same can't be said for the spirit however. They are just kind of here."

With the rats having been taken care of, the pair would continue down the walkway of the sewer once more. As they had continued to walk, Balthazar would have the spirit remain ahead of them to act as a scout of sorts. "Jumping back to something that you said earlier though.. I suppose that I can agree with your assessment. From what I've noticed, the spirits tend to linger about, ready to be called upon when needed. For classes like ours, I suppose. My question is whether this is something that has always been the case or if it's a recent change from the way the world seemed to change."

He watched Balthazar do his thing. His eyes never left the man, inspecting every ounce of how he did his attacks. He listened carefully and thoroughly when Balthazar talked about his ability. The way the spirit seemed to swallow the rat whole intrigued him. There was one thing he feared though, Balthazar didn't seem like the type to join forces with the nefarious. He had only spoke
a few sentences with the man but as of right now, things didn't look good at all. "I think the world's just changed." He replied to the man speaking of if things were always this way or recently changed.

The world had indeed changed. That was something that they could agree on, one way or another. What they probably wouldn't be able to agree on though was the question that the man had just thrown at Balthazar. In fact, hearing that statement would be enough to cause the mans gaze to glaze over. "..honestly?? I can't say that I've lost much of anything in the light. If anything, the light has given me something." The something in question had been power. Pure, unfiltered power that he could use to bring back his family. The issue was the fact that he couldn't do this until he found where his former home was. And that..?? Well that was enough to stir the pot for the occultist.

The mere thought of his family would throw the mind of the man back in time. Back to when he was trying to bring them back. To the point just before the light had descended. That rage and emptiness that he had felt would slowly begin to pervert his mind and as a result, it would begin to slowly seep out into the spirit that he had commanded. The visage of the transparent sewage worker would contort in ways that Balthazar hadn't noticed but Calico just might. It was almost as though the spirit had been.. growing?? It hadn't been by much, and certainly wasn't for long, but the spirit had seemed to be transforming into something far more monstrous as Balthazar was lost in thought.

The sound of chirping up ahead would snap the occultist out of it. "..how about you?" In an attempt to try and divert the attention away from himself, Balthazar would ask the man the same question. He would also gesture for the spirit to lurch forward and to grab a hold of what was making those chirping sounds. From the looks of it, it was a bat. A bat that had been attempting to get out of the spirits grasp. "Did you lose something important to you?? Or did you gain something??"

He listened intently to the man's words, he wanted, nor needed to garner everything he could. There still was a connection to be made and as far as Calico was concerned he just hadn't done that well enough yet. It would of been great to pull him to the side of the night with one interaction but, this was shaping up to be a multi interaction investment; at most he figured the exchange of information so they could reconvene at a later date would be the most he'd get out of this interaction.

Just when his thoughts had given this mission the dunce rating his eyes perked up to the spirit growing, the intense energy it gave off the the horrid way it was contorting in those split seconds. The statement Balthazar gave all accumulated to a delightful air of viciousness. Maybe Calico could work with this, no, he'd have to work with this. He watched the rage die down in the man facing forward once more as he turned the question back on Calico.

"I've seemed to have only gained something. And now I am in an position to give back to the world while taking back what I had lost before the light. I want to lead people in an unconventional way. its one of the reasons I take missions, in hopes of finding similar souls to myself." He spoke the truth, albeit double speak in some ways but the truth nonetheless.
