As in all things she was focused and collected. The exact order had to be maintained; put on glasses, water the brush, toothpaste, water the toothpaste, brush, mouthwash, floss, thirty second mirror check. The order had been obeyed and so she allowed herself to move on to getting dressed. Her graduation from the officer's school was coming up and everything had to be impeccable. She moved to her bedroom and once more followed a precise order of operations. Underwear, black socks, white shirt(With all buttons done and a ruffled front), black pleated skirt and belt to pin down the shirt, brush her hair out and then follow with a white jacket with a faux-fur ruff and a black beret on top before finishing with a pair of white gloves. Lastly her black boots and she dusted herself down before moving to the door. In all things she had to be perfect, her hand took the door handle... And everything went white.
Seiko found herself in an endless void and as the first tendril of panic started to slip into her mind she grabbed it and snapped it in half. Was there a bombing and she was currently in a coma? Was this some form of waking dream, perhaps she had been drugged and kidnapped? She sorted the possibilities into most likely to least likely before she was interrupted by a series of notifications appearing in front of her, taking the appearance of cold-war CRT monitors. She blinked through them at lightning speed, taking in all of the information in only a few moments before frowning pensively. If this was some form of delusion or enemy action then working with it couldn't cause more harm than had already been caused, could it? And if it turned out to be real then she was being offered a world where she could actually wage war and put her training to use in something other than war games.
A wicked light entered her eyes as she reached out and tapped the tip of an expertly manicured nail onto 'Grand General'. The system confirmed her option and she was immediately given the information about it before being told she was taking part in a Tutorial, which only seemed reasonable actually. She cancelled the timer the 'system' gave her and put herself straight in, appearing on the sandy ground of a large circular arena. The sun blazed overhead and a phantom crowd screamed out for blood. The crowd area was crafted of black stone but the floor of the arena was a deep blood-red sand that crunched underfoot. A strange figure seemingly crafted of light watched over everything but was content to remain silent for now.
There was no time to waste.
With a thought, Seiko brought out both of her soldiers, each of them a muscled brute just under seven feet tall concealed in light cloth armour with enclosed helms in blue and white, carrying large heavy crossbows of gleaming, polished silver. The short girl gave a nod and observed the area. There seemed to be quite a lot of people in the arena, actual people that was, around the wall and that immediately gave her an idea. She turned to the nearest person to her left, immediately taking in their passive before speaking. "I propose an alliance at least until it is no longer feasible. Prevention of ambushes and combined arms will serve us well." Her voice was clipped and curt, though not arrogant, simply lacking emotion at all.

He couldn’t pinpoint why, but they rolled from their bed and began getting ready for their day. They showered, taking the time to fully wake up under the hot spray of the water. He took more time than he did, mostly because he had more time but also because he thought he could use it. A nice routine of moisturizer, a few serums and finishing up with a nice scented oil to cap it all off. They usually took a bit of time on their hair, so they didn’t change that today, massaging more oil into their scalp before combing and brushing it into their preferred style.[break][break] I should head to the skate park today, put some practice in Juno thought to himself as he moved about his little studio apartment, putting on some music as he got dressed while also making himself a light breakfast. He slipped on briefs as he shoved a toasted waffle in his mouth, bouncing around on one foot as he then tugged on a pair of black jeans. Another waffle while he rifled through a pile of clothes, sniffing and tossing certain articles aside as he made a mental note to do some laundry later. He settled on an exes’ old Football jersey that he’d turned into a crop top.[break][break] A few leather bracelets and silver chains, including one that looped several times around his exposed belly. He finished his last waffle as he slipped on his shoes, his favorite pair of hightops. They grabbed their shades and slipped them onto their head before picking up their duffel bag and heading towards the door. They caught themselves in the mirror and stood there for a moment, getting a…strong impression that they should text their siblings really quick. They pulled out their phone and shot a quick text to the group chat before slipping their shades over their eyes.[break][break] When he opened the door and stepped out into a world of white light, he started to wish he’d just stayed in bed. The white faded quick enough and they were standing in a dark room, the sound of dripping water echoing around them. Several screens lit up around them in the air, scrolling messages of a changed world and a strange power. Before they realized they made a decision, they reached out and tapped Skyburner, prompting their vision to fade into nothingness once more as they were enveloped in warmth like a comforting flame. When their sight returned to them, they blinked their eyes open to see an arena and others surrounding them. They looked around and took in their surroundings a bit more deeply.[break][break] They were mostly okay, with the sole exception of not having their duffel bag and now having a…unique pair of roller skates on their feet. These were more tricked out than their own, decorated with neon green and yellow flames. They were dragged from their thoughts by someone talking to them. Juno looked around confusedly before looking down, seeing a girl that was almost a foot shorter than himself “Oh. Were you talking to me?” He looked around a bit more before turning back, cocking a hip with a hand propped on it and a twinkling smile on his face “You talk funny, little lady. There was a moment's pause as Seiko pursed her lips before she nodded to Juno and then turned to look around the rest of the arena. The rest of the people sent here seemed to be getting their wits about them and a few others were making teams. "It would appear that we are currently in a Colosseum. It is very likely we are going to be expected to take part in some form of combat sport for a cheering crowd thirsty for blood." A wicked gleam entered Seiko's eye for a moment at the thought of being able to finally unleash her soldiers but she had to maintain control for now at least. She glanced up at her taller ally after they gave their name and nodded. "Juno it is. My name is Seiko Kasparov."

After taking a moment to complete her thoughts she adjusted her glasses and spoke again. "Together we stand a better chance of survival. With all of us however we might even be able to overthrow the thing presiding over this place. I will have none command my life other than myself, this is a new world Juno and I intend to rule." Her hand clenched into a fist but that was the only show of emotion that she had. This would require focus, will and an eagerness to sacrifice the weak.

"I have a plan in the making, Juno. Hopefully you will agree with me that survival is paramount and as my first ally you are more important than others." She didn't mention she'd already glanced at Juno's passive and from that inferred a lot about how his class would work which helped too. "Step one, we must unite those that survive the first round of these games, the weakest will die and we will be left with those that are worth something." At that she glanced up and narrowed her eyes as the creature of scornful light started to rise to its feet...

She was…an interesting character. Concern began snaking up their spine at the way she talked about other people, at the glint in her eyes that appeared at the very prospect of puppeteering others in a battle scenario. She’s definitely not right in the head, he thought to himself, maybe I should get away while I still can? But then they paused and took in their surroundings, the information they had been given about the world now. Her mindset wasn’t really out of place anymore, and she was right: some people here were gonna die.[break][break] It tugged at their heartstrings a bit, they’d probably always have compassion for others in their heart (they had to, they didn’t want to know what they’d become if they didn’t) but there were times where that could be, or had to be set aside. He decided that now was one of those times “Well, my Lady” They turned and gave Seiko a low bow, deciding that she spoke too properly to not be teased about it with a fun nickname “You sound like you’ve got a better head on your shoulders than I do. Tell you what: You be the brains, I’ll be the brawn. Think of me as your Sword, just point me at something and I’ll do all the swinging.” Juno made a motion as though swinging a sword before flashing a brilliant smile.[break][break] Juno was about to get to wrangling up some of the others in the arena, as per Seiko’s suggestion, when the figure surrounded by bright light reached their full height. It was impossible to tell how tall they were, the light growing in strength so that their form was a shadow that shifted constantly. It was like they were the sun itself, so far above them and so far removed that their existence was more eldritch than mundane. They extended a limb and a loud, resonant bell seemed to echo through the space, however it was more of a sensation than a sound. There were no words to be understood, yet the message was broadcasted to everyone in the arena all the same. Seiko was right, confirmed not only by the figure but by the System itself.[break][break] [attr="class","junosysbox"] [attr="class","junosysbar"] system message[break] The Emperor has given an objective: survive and entertain. [break][break] The figure, the Emperor, returned to its seat and the crowd let out a raucous roar, shaking the colosseum with the force of it. Juno looked out at them and wasn’t shocked to see that the figures weren’t just indistinct because of the distance, they seemed to be formed of shadow itself. They vaguely shaped themselves in the form of people, and fed off the light pouring from the Emperor. Juno tore their eyes away from the crowd when they heard the scraping of metal on stone, seeing gates at various points around the arena beginning to open “LISTEN UP!” Juno’s voice boomed, not carrying all that far but catching the attention of those closest to him and Seiko “IF YOU WANNA LIVE, STICK TOGETHER. There was a slight narrowing of the eyes at the nickname that Juno gave her but if she pretended it was respectful then there wouldn't be any further need to worry about it. So the moment passed and she gave a nod. Her own soldiers were only barely capable at the moment, she would need to enhance her own stats in order to bring them up to a proper combat capability. That meant she would function mostly in a tactical and support sense for the moment and that worked well enough for her.

"Good, the first round will be a focus on survival and collection of other individuals. Those that freeze or flee we will not require, ignore them and focus your efforts on supporting those that fighting back. Even if they aren't fully combat capable, those that support or heal will also be useful. Take Alpha with you, it will provide fire support." With that one of her soldiers stepped forward and slid into the ground, joining into Juno's shadow, causing it to deepen and be shot through with deep blue veins that looked like circuitry. "You are somewhat concealed should anyone try and utilise ranged attacks as well. There is more to be planned, go forth now and win." Her eyes were already distant now, running through plans and scenarios.

As the gates began to open up, Seiko attached Beta, her other soldier, to herself to give a measure of concealment to herself as well. From the gates a half dozen large lions burst forth, each of them had alabaster white fur with manes of golden metallic spikes. They stopped and began sniffing around before dashing at various groups, one of them heading towards both Seiko and Juno while other little groups got targeted as well. Animals were a mainstay in gladiator fights so Seiko wasn't fully surprised but to see the animals displaying unnatural properties was certainly interesting. Were there actual mythological creatures out there now?

"Distract and disengage, allies are more important." Seiko told her comrade as both of the soldiers slid slightly out of their respective shadows and fired a pair of crossbow bolts at the charging Lion, bolts plunging into its flesh and causing it to stumble but they didn't manage to kill it before fading back in. "Foe weakened." She muttered more to herself, lost in the flow of information for the moment.

Lions with spikes for mains and blades for claws. Very Roman, Juno thought to themselves, if Rome was located in the deepest circle of hell. A lion rushed them and Seiko, being pelted with crossbow bolts for its trouble. Juno smirked and rushed in towards the beast “Sorry, my Lady” it roared and swiped at them, which they met with only a loud cackle. Seiko’s soldier made its aim falter, however it was still quick enough to get a glancing blow in, but Juno shifted to the side with an unnatural grace, feeling themselves warm up as they did so. “Disengaging? Not really my thing.”[break][break]
Juno didn’t waste time, they launched from a crouch into the air, yellow sparks catching into green flames that wreathed their feet as they did so. They had only a small bit of air time here, so they wouldn’t get their full power out so making it count would be most important. Juno spun, turning into a wheel of green flame, before slamming their wheels down directly onto the top of the lion’s head, the force knocking the beast muzzle, first into the ground “HAHA! Get wrecked!” Juno dove and began skating along the beast’s back just to add insult to injury. They were back onto the ground soon enough and scanning the area for those that could be recruited.[break][break]
There were several people running around like chickens with their heads cut off, and Juno had to stifle a laugh even though realistically he knew their lives were absolutely in danger. Ignoring them, his gaze honed in on two individuals who were doing their damndest to organize like Seiko and himself. One was a bulky looking man wielding a massive shield, interposing himself between lions and their targets. Behind the man was an individual who seemed to be conducting…a flock of birds? The birds circled around the man and everyone who was unfortunate enough to be touched by the lions, seemingly knitting their wounds back together.[break][break]
“Lady S!” Juno called out to Seiko while beginning to navigate their way through scattering bodies and roaring lions “Six o’clock! Tank and healer, what a score right?”[break]

The going against her instructions didn't even seem to bother Seiko at all. She simply tilted her head slightly and brought a hand up to adjust her glasses. The flow of information was all that mattered, if she had to take in the fact that Juno was more hot-headed then she could use that. No unit ever followed orders perfectly though it would make a much better world if they did, she wouldn't need to worry about emotions or morale if that was the case. It didn't matter however, the primary objective was being completed so she couldn't rightfully complain.

As Juno skated along the lion's back, the soldier popped out of their shadow again and nailed a crossbow bolt into the back of the lion's head, putting it down finally. "Targets are tough, combined offensives recommended to overcome natural armour and endurance." She hummed out, tilting her head in the opposite direction as the info was factored into her calculations. At that moment a third soldier formed out of her shadows and gave her a bow before turning and chasing after Juno.

"Healer and Tank are priority targets. Engage the lions targeting them with an ambush. Kill them quickly and then escort the packages back towards the designated safe zone." She shouted out to Juno, her eyes locking onto him for a second as though he was squarely in a sniper's scope before she looked elsewhere to judge the rest of the fight. Already at least two people had been torn apart by the lions and splattered across the sands of the arena. One of them appeared to have been some kind of ice mage while the other had been too terrified to do anything other than stand there and die. For a moment she let a personal thought through and thanked the tides of coincidence for pairing her with someone whose first instinct was to fight not freeze.

The situation was becoming salvageable now that others were realising they couldn't escape and they had to use their newfound abilities to fight. Several of the lions were wounded though none other had been killed yet. The tank and healer pair that Juno had spotted were holding off against two lions, both injured, and although managing to stay alive they weren't inflicting any wounds on the creatures, a situation that would need swiftly remedied.

Not that I mind much, Juno mused to themselves as they moved around and over dropped competitors She seems like the Overwatch type anyway. The skater kept their pace steady, plotting a course and making calculations as they sized up the two lions. Injured and distracted, which was perfect for Juno. His class was combat oriented, so he was pretty sure he’d be able to get in a choice sneak attack if he played his cards right.[break][break]
Unfortunately, one of the people that the healer and tank were protecting caught sight of them and started waving like an idiot, screaming for help. Juno grimaced as they were quickly snapped up by one of the lions, which then turned its attention to Juno. They pushed forward, the only way to go really, and prepared themselves for whatever came. The lion swiped at them, and they slid under the paw with ease. As they picked up momentum they felt heat and friction as flames began dancing up and down their legs, emanating from their skates in that same neon green and yellow. “Backdraft!!!” with a shout and a manic smile, Juno kicked up with all their strength.[break][break]
A scythe-like arc of fire lanced up from their outstretched leg, beheading the lion and filling the air with the smell of burnt blood and fur. There was a roar of flame, but no sound from the lion itself, though as if on instinct its partner turned in Juno’s direction. Still wreathed in dancing fire, the skater gave the beast a come hither motion as the thing charged. He waited for only a moment before jumping into the air and kicking out once, sending a spear of fire directly to the beast’s eye. It slumped and slid to the ground just in time for Juno to land upon its back. Standing tall and proud, Juno looked down at the two he was sent to retrieve, who were looking up at him with a mixture of awe and apprehension.[break][break]
When the Tank began to stutter through some introduction, Juno cut him off “Sorry cutie, time for that later. We gotta get back to the boss lady.” They pointed over their shoulder to Seiko, the flames around them helpfully shaping themselves into arrows pointing the same way before sputtering out “I’m like…way faster than you two, but I’ll circle around a bit to keep any kitties or other bad things off you.” Juno turned to make good on their word before they quickly whipped back “Oh and the rest of you too, I guess. Just like…don’t stray far? And don’t be dumb. Alright everybody good? Great! C’mon.”[break][break]
Juno lid down the beast and began leading the dazed group back in Seiko’s direction, the Skyburner making sure to keep an eye on their surroundings in case any lions thought to rush in for a quick snack.[break]

Things were going to plan. Almost all of the lions were dead, two important targets had been secured by her primary comrade and were being escorted back. "Step Two: Withstand the Trial." She murmured to herself, reaching around to adjust her glasses. She knew that if things were this simple to begin with however something was going to go terribly wrong and she was more than prepared for it. The last of the lions were put down by two of the other remaining survivors who had managed to stay against the wall and fend off the feline force attempting to murder them but they hadn't moved towards Seiko at all.

When Juno grew close with the tank and healer, she nodded to all three of them. "My name is Seiko, you are being co-opted as combat assets for the duration of this tutorial. Follow my commands and I will bring you to victory." She pitched her voice specifically towards the Tank and the Healer who, seemingly terrified, simply nodded mutely and moved around into position around Seiko. "Juno, the second step begins. We have survived the first trial we must now survive the next. This will give us an operational base and allow us to grow more comfortable fighting side-by-side."

She cast a glance around the arena as the corpses of the lions seemed to fade away into sparks of golden light that flew towards the Emperor but the corpses of the other players remained. That was fine, they were moving onto the next trial now. She knew the next steps of her plan were going to come faster. She attached one of her soldiers to the Healer to give them a bit more protection and finally moved a few steps forwards to stand behind the tank, looking out from around them to survey the battlefield. "Everyone, ready yourselves, the next trial begins." She said as the Emperor raised a hand to the sky and then dropped it...
