Noelle had gone along with Jonas back to the place where one could pick up the payment for their job before they could move on with their lives to the new locations of the odd jobs that were able to be done in Paris. Overall this place really wasn't Noelle's taste in a city, but it was nice to visit the once famous city of attractions. Though she wasn't planning on staying, she wanted to earn what she could out of this dreadful event before moving along at least. Refusing to 'game the system' meant doing everything by hand though and she was determined to earn all the tokens that were needed to level herself up. She was close to a very interesting input of hers, and she was really digging in to try and reach it.

"We need to kill some rats, so make you have all your equipment and abilities at the ready Jonas. I am not a damage dealer as much as I am a tank, and I am hoping that I can keep you protected if you think you can deal with the threats inside. If not we are in for a very long slog against these rats," Noelle would state bluntly as they reached the entrance to the tunnel. She was really going to have to focus considering how undressed Jonas seemed for a support mage of some form. He probably wasn't any real damage dealer either, but the two would likely get by if they just stuck out whatever they needed to get done.

Jonas hadn't expected to get right into the next job with Noelle, but money was money after all. While walking to the next location he made sure to use his points to level up. He was mainly focused on a support role so he placed the stats in what he believed would help him in that. For the most part, he was happy with how things turned out but wished he had a few more stats to spread out.

As Noelle began to explain the next mission he regretted not putting more stats in Power. “I can do a bit of damage, but it may take a while. I've got some small blasts I can send out and a large AoE blast, but that puts it on cooldown. I'm sure we'll be fine though! I doubt we'll have too much trouble with just rats!” Or at least that's how he hoped things would go down. Noelle seemed to be less optimistic about their prospects. With neither of them being direct combat classes her concern was valid, but it was unlikely anything happened. “So what's the plan, Noelle? I can make a lot of noise to attract the rats to us and then take them out.”

Noelle was the one leading this, that felt different. She wasn't opposed, but it felt like trying to tell a cloud to become a storm without it having enough weight rubbing against itself. It was an odd delima to her for sure, but whatever. Looking to Jonas and then out to the sewer in front of her she would inhale and exhale and the rain that seemed to perpetually fall around her become all the more real, the sound heavy as it echoed on water, concrete, and metal alike.

"If you can draw them here, I'll take care of the first waves here if I can. Otherwise, draw them in and start rolling out what damage you can. and I guess safe word pineapple if your in danger, Im pretty hard to take down, but I don't think you share my defenses," Noelle would reply before turning forward and opening her umbrella. Water beginning to swirl around her.

The scurrying body of a dozen rats wouldn't take much longer to show, and Noelle would give them a show as they got close, opening up with a wide blast of water that seemed to dig in ever so slightly to the rats, but barely. This would be a slog of a fight... a lesson to be learned.[break]

Jonas had his hands behind his back and exaggeratedly lifted his legs with each step as they walked to the sewer. Once again she was being pessimistic. “Well, I just buffed up my defenses so I think I'll be just fine. I wish I put a few more points into Power, but I doubt either of us will be taken down by some rats.”

Noelle seemed quite beautiful as she opened her umbrella and water began to bend to her will. He stared for just a moment before turning to the sewer. Jonas cupped his hands over his mouth and began to make rat sounds as loudly as he could into the opening. He felt silly as he did this, but he couldn't think of anything else to attract them.

It didn't take long for his efforts to bear fruit thankfully. Unfortunately, there were a lot more rats than he expected. He moved to be a bit behind Noelle so she could do the first attack. As he hoped that it would take out a few pests Jonas hummed to himself. A few rainbow-colored musical notes floated from his mouth toward the woman. Maybe it was a waste of a heal, but he needed the Notes for a drawn-out fight.

Noelle's attack didn't do nearly as much as he was hoping it would. A few of the rats got hit by water, but none of them went down. Jonas moved forward next to Noelle and on the last step stomped his foot on the ground. Large multi-colored waves shot toward the group as they advanced closer. Three of the rats fell from the cumulative damage of the blasts. “See I told you it wouldn't be that bad! Hope you have a plan to stop them though.”

She needed to keep the rest of the rats distracted? That was simple enough, those that had dodged the blast of notes would be berated again by the droplets before Noelle reached a hand out behind her for Jonas, "Very well, hold on then. Cause I doubt you'll be able to see soon," Noelle would state as the world around her went from simply rainy to hazed, spreading out from her. Golden chains wrapping around the closest of the rats as she grew a hazy bubble around the two as a dozen rats bashed their heads against the sudden wall in the mist.

"I'm actually awful with crowds compared to fighting with large targets, but should be fine if we can just keep tagging them down slowly," Noelle would state as her umbrella would spin the opposite way and close shooting out a spear-like barb of grey energy at the closest rat seeming to do nearly nothing to the creature.

Perhaps she could deal with the last one with her actual power, but for now she would rely on Jonas to be able to handle the damage for the little guys that were attacking them while she handled the damage control.[break]

Jonas was hopeful about the premise of their success. Between the two of them blasting at the rats, they were bound to win eventually. The only matter was surviving until the end. Noelle said she was good at defense so hopefully they could do something to protect them.

When prompted to hold on he quickly grabbed hold of Noelle's hand before anything bad could happen to him. What did she mean he wouldn't be able to see? It was a scary idea and not something Jonas wanted to experience any time soon. Some sort of haze spread around them forming a bubble to protect them from the oncoming swarm. “You seem to be doing just fine. Keep it up and we'll be done with this in no time!”

He laughed as he saw the rats beating their heads against the defensive bubble of the woman. Her first attack didn't seem to do much at all. She really meant it when she said she didn't have any offensive capabilities. Maybe this would take longer than he thought.

Jonas lifted his hand that wasn't clasped firmly onto Noelle's and snapped his fingers. Another large blast of sound waves erupted from him towards the rats. Thankfully they were all grouped up in front of the pair by this point so they shook through the whole swarm. Only one rat fell this time however due to Noelle's attack. “I've only got one blast left now. We better make it count.”

That was just great. The haze protecting them would thicken, and if not for the physical connection, Jonas would barely be able to see her let alone the rats. Luckily the rats seemed completely blind at this point. Inhaling and exhaling though she would utter something airy under her breath. Audible as words, but not coherent for what it was, however as her umbrella spun one of the rats left suddenly had its neck ripped out by some force. Noelle looking upset at the sight despite it being part of the job.

"I hate my abilities you know, but also be careful they will be able to approach in... now," Noelle would state as she opened her umbrella and swung the canopy out as a ward to the incoming bite. Another rat jumped towards her, but it was met with a swirl of her umbrella expanding into a vortex that threw it jaws open into a third rat. The fourth would phase through her umbrella as it couldn't block them all, latching onto her raincoat, and the last one latched onto her leg as she stabbed downward into it. Her face slowly contorting as if recognizing the pain far too slowly. Despite the look she hadn't actually taken too much damage.

"Kill these things would you?" Noelle would call with an amount of panic as she let go of Jonas' hand. Leaving herself fully in his view alongside the rats.[break][break]

Just as Jonas was wondering what Noelle said under her breath she slew one of the rats in front of them. “There we go! Almost halfway there!” Things were looking good for the pair as more and more rats fell. There were only seven left now.

“You hate your abilities? But why? They seem pretty cool to me Noelle!” In his efforts to try to cheer up the girl Jonas nearly missed her warning that the shield would be going down. “Wait what?” Suddenly the shield disappeared and they were left without any defenses but the girl in front of him. She did make a good shield though as she got swarmed by the rats and attacked repeatedly.

Jonas stepped back from her as she let go of his hand. It wasn't long before the remaining rats made their way past her and to him. It was only two, but that was enough to cause him to panic. This last blast would be it before his ability went on cooldown. When would they get another chance to have the rats grouped up like this again? If he didn't take action now then things may get dangerous.

“I'm so sorry! I promise I'll heal you later! Don't be too mad!” He shouted as he clapped his hands in front of him to send his final wave of sound forward. The rats that almost made it to him tumbled to the ground and skidded their way toward him. They didn't seem to be moving anymore.

It didn't stop at them though. The waves of sound shot forward until they reached Noelle and the rats surrounding her as well. There may have been better options, but Jonas didn't have enough time to think of them. If the poor girl didn't do anything her bones would be rattled along with the rats clinging to her. All the cumulative damage finally took its toll on the swarm and most of them let go of her as they fell to the ground around her thankfully. At least something went right. There only seemed to be a single rat left hanging by a thread.

The rats were slower then normal, and as the haze reached its peak, so was Jonas. The rats keeping to her were a pain and if it wasn't for her higher defense she would of probably been dead already. That much was incredibly apparent from her position, after all she had no way to release the rats from her in time and as the haze mostly blinded everyone here she would be rattled hard by the wave of vibration. Their body shaking as if it was going to break apart, and to some degree Noelle was sure it did.

With a mostly silent scream, on account of the lack of air in her lungs, she released a psionic blast that would consume her world in black and white as dread and anguish seemed to overwhelmingly flow out and over the remaining rat. Its head imploding near instantly from the damage to its mind cooking it with an emotional overload. Dismissing her haze at the sign of the completion message Noelle wheezed.

Stumbling, she closed her umbrella to use it as a crutch and coughed. HP, what was it? What was her HP at? She would check near immediately and the pale girl in black and white looked incredibly terrified by the number in front of her: One. She had been a point of damage from death. White as a sheet of paper she looked to Jonas, "So about that heal effect."

With a flash of black and white it was over. If not for Noelle's ability there would be red too of course, but that color wasn't allowed to exist at the moment. Of course, Jonas only saw the aftermath of the attack once the woman released her haze. It was a gruesome sight and a reminder that people can be much more dangerous than they look. Who would expect a woman with a raincoat and umbrella to be able to literally blow your mind?

Noelle looked white as a sheet after the haze vanished. Well from what he could tell at least. Did she always look that pale? Regardless Jonas was glad that she was still standing. He began to sweat when she asked for healing. “Uh, I did say later, right? It's still on cooldown for a few more seconds.” He placed both hands in front of his face in prayer. “I promise I'll use it as soon as it's ready!”

Jonas got to his feet and quickly made his way to Noelle. “But for now let's get out of here. You need some rest. I think that's enough for tonight.” He would then try to prop her up and. once he was sure she was stable, walk her to where she was staying. “So where are we going anyways?”
