It was just as the prompt was finishing. As Alessandra was beginning to look out over the edge. Peering out into the subtle darkness in an attempt to see if she could catch anything. Perhaps a small flash or a sign of movement. Anything that might give her an advantage. She had learned to spot some of these small details from her time working as a journalist. And yet she didn't notice anything as she was beginning to peer out into the darkness.[break][break]

However, what she did notice, was the creaking beginning. That the decrepit building wasn't very sturdy at all. It didn't look sturdy originally, but perhaps even whatever brought them here was trying to showcase that time was of the essence as the floor would come crashing down behind her. Causing her to spin on her heel as she'd see where the cave-in happened. And more importantly, the female who happened to be skidding to a halt right in front of her. A little popup notifying her that the girl she was looking at was her teammate. [break][break]

Breathing a sigh of relief that the girl wasn't about to cause the fighting to start early, Alessandra still had plenty of questions. Like how many other teams there were. How many players per team? All questions she wished to know before diving in. Something she figured others must have as well as she hadn't seen anyone attempting to just run into the middle as soon as the games began.[break][break]

Nodding her head at the other girl she'd respond back. "Yeah, seems like both of us are stuck here in this hellhole." She'd say back. Before a secondary popup would appear. Switching from the previous message about not only them being teammates, but also showing the other players and teams here. Seemingly slowly switching back and forth between the two as Alessandra would add on. "I am so glad that you happened to be my partner, and not someone random." She'd start off by saying before a voice would echo down the barren hall. 'I heard the noise from over here!' [break][break]

Alessandra looked over at her partner and said "Vicious yes, but a straight-up brawler? No. We should learn each other's strengths and weaknesses in a second. But for now, we need to move." She'd say to the girl before taking off down the hallway away from where the voices sounded. [break][break]

Her class beginning to activate as shadows would seemingly begin to swirl around her. Her [stalk] state seeming to activate as the system began registering her class ability activating. Looking down at her she seemed to almost blend into the shadows swirling around her, making it harder to see her as well as providing smaller claws. A small grin on her face as she'd say "I don't know if you got the pop up earlier, but it seems like whatever is happening... it's real. This is something that was described to me." She'd say back to the girl that had, quite literally, dropped into her life. Alessandra hadn't planned on getting caught before, and she certainly didn't plan on getting caught now.[break][break]

And just like that everything was cut to black. Finding herself in a dark void with nothingness around her. She could see herself, she knew she wasn't blind. But besides that... she couldn't tell anything that was going on. Until it lit up in front of her.[break][break]

Three cards, hovering in mid-air. Each portrays a different picture. The one on the left shows a beast in darkness. Claws outstretched around what appears to be an afraid human lurking under it's looming, intimidating presence. The middle card showing a crazed look on someones face as they're clawing at their own eyes. Streaks of red seeming to appear from under where their hands had dragged as they looked panicked.. distressed. And the card on the right. A figure standing in the of a ritual of some kind. But to the side a table full of papers, walls covered in them as well. All of them with writings and diagrams and pictures, clearly some sort of ritual to be taking place. Grasping shadows almost reaching out from the where the figure rests in the middle of their diagram drawn on the floor in a familiar red substance.[break][break]

Looking at these as a large blue message appeared floating above the three merely stating 'CHOOSE ONE'. Which was rather cryptic. By tapping the cards another screen popped up. Giving the name of them as well as a brief description. As well as the option to choose that card or to rethink and choose a different option. [break][break]

She was never very big into video games. Having never found too much desire to really pick up any games besides chess or poker. Leaving her with some indecision for some time. But ultimately, deciding that the one on the left might be for the best. If for no other reason than mention body and soul piqued her interest. After all, it sounded almost like what she did, but better.[break][break]

And with that she was dropped into a new area. Falling into what seemed like a destroyed building. A courtyard in the middle with a square building built around it as a pop up in front of her would once again appear. 'GAME BEGINS IN 5:00 4:59 4:58...' followed quickly by various other screens. Those explaining her newfound abilities. Quickly putting two and two together for herself as she'd walk over to the railing. Seeing that she was a few floors up from the middle but that she was still in what seemed to be a restricted area. Unable to move too far from where she was dropped, and yet also unable to see anyone else that might have fallen nearby. [break][break]

'0:02, 0:01, 0:00' would appear on that everpresent notification in front of her before dropping. Now with the rules of the game appearing before her as it would be explained.[break][break]

'TEAM KING OF THE HILL - BE THE FIRST TEAM TO HOLD THE HILL FOR A COMBINED THREE MINUTES. THE HILL WILL ONLY GAIN PROGRESS FOR A TEAM IF THERE IS ONLY A SINGLE TEAM PRESENT IN THE HILL AREA'[break][break]

And that was that. Nothing more. While not very explanatory it also meant that there was one thing that was rather important. It was time for the most dangerous game for Alessandra.

Her connection to Jack the Ripper falls into her total and utter fascination with him. The way that he was able to so brutally murder and yet still get away with it. That he was never caught, and it's hard to even tell how many murders are his. However, there are some that are generally accepted as being known to be his, partially due to the brutality. Something that she wanted to emulate as she idolized him.

PASSIVE: Shivers Down the Spine

Simply being around you has a tendency to put people on edge, little cracks in their guard opening up, paranoia leaking into the emptiness between. For as long as you are [Hidden], [Invisible] or [Stealthed] against an enemy, you start to slowly stack up a debuff called [Paranoia]. For each post you remain unseen and each time an enemy takes damage from you without noticing you, they gain one stack of Paranoia. Should they gain 5 stacks, they become [Panicked], reducing their MAGI and PWR by 25% and increasing their SPD by 10%. This lasts two posts unless you break stealth and attack, whereupon the duration doubles.[break][break]

The Midnight Prowler is a class based around finding the perfect moment to strike. You might not strike often but when you do it is meaningful, ripping through defenses, spilling blood, tearing the weak apart. This primary directive is accomplished through the use of two distinct 'states', [Stalk] and [Hunt].[break][break]

Stalk

The primary state of the Prowler, the set up, lining up all the dominoes before the eventual fall. While in this state, the Prowler reduces their PWR by 1 Rank but increases their SPD by 1 rank. Additionally, as long as they do not make any offensive actions they become [Hidden] from all enemies so long as the Prowler's SPD is greater than the opponent's MAGI(this doesn't count the bonus from the Stalk state). While [Hidden] from a foe, the Prowler can make an attack without breaking from stealth, dealing damage equal to their PWR-1 Rank(This IS affected by the state), as they lightly cut and nick their foe without them knowing where they came from.[break][break]
Each time this stealthy attack is made the Prowler may spend 1 stack of [Shadowed] to lower the opponent's DEF by 10%, for 2 posts to a maximum of 30%. The duration doesn't stack but it does refresh if the debuff is reapplied. They also gain 1 stack of [Slaughter], to a maximum of 3.

Hunt

Before making their first attack in a post the Prowler may drop the cloak of shadows that hides them and take on their true aspect, the blood in the dark, claws and fangs flashing in pale moonlight. While in this state, the Prowler's PWR increases by 1 rank but their SPD is reduced by 1 rank. While in this state they may attack once each post dealing damage equal to their PWR and cause the opponent to bleed profusely, causing them to take E Rank damage straight to their VIT for 1 post.[break][break]
When attacking, the Prowler may spend 1 stack of [Slaughter] to do an additional attack dealing damage equal to their SPD(Altered by the Hunt state buff but not applying Bleed) and gain 1 stack of [Shadowed] to a maximum of 3.[break][break]

Crawling Dread:

By choosing a target that has at least 1 debuff or 1 stack of a debuff, the Prowler can fade into darkness and become an aspect of their dread. This target must be within a number of meters equal to the user's PWR number whereupon the Prowler immediately teleports into their shadow, becoming [Hidden] from that target for 1 post and entering the [Stalk] state. Additionally when used the Prowler may choose one debuff on the target and either increase the number of stacks of that debuff by 2 or increase its duration by 2 rounds. Once used this has a 4 round cooldown.[break][break]

Guidebook

This book has a very clearly hand made look to it. Written on the front is the title, "Waddle-Dee Dee's Beginner’s Guide to the System!" There’s also an illustration of a Waddle Dee version of Dee Dee waving, along with a word bubble overhead that says, "Let's Learn Together!" On the back cover are the words "Don't Panic!" written in big friendly letters. Inside is a description of the system interface and the system itself, including functions like the messaging system, shop, guilds, area map, forum access, and a host of other things that any beginner might need to know. It’s all explained without jargon and as clearly as possible, making it easy to understand. Towards the back was a glossary of terms that the owner of the book might overhear other people use. In the very back was a bestiary describing enemies and simple tactics to beat them, accompanied by hand made drawings, including some depicting Dee Dee and others battling the beasts. [break][break]

Backstory

Many would describe her childhood as entirely average. And in fact, it was. Her parents both held middle-of-the-road jobs. Money was never a huge concern so she was able to live overly comfortably. However, as she was going into her upper teen years is when everything started to go a little differently for her. She started to get obsessed with serial killers. Her first experience was with Jack the Ripper. And she became obsessed with him. Learning more and more until she felt she knew everything she could find about him. And moving on to the Zodiac Killer, and the Alphabet Killer. Every killer that had managed to get away with it. And she ultimately found it inspiring. The amount of freedom that they were able to hold. And so she wanted to be like them. She desired it. She had to. And so she started planning. Stalking her first victim and learning their routine. Their mannerisms.
Everything about them and their schedule. Small innocuous meetings like accidentally bumping into them at a barista. Until she went through with her plan. And it was brutal. The details weren't released to the public due to it's gruesome nature, but she had gotten away with it. And that gave her a bit of confidence. So she tried it again. And again, the murder was brutal. But she was a bit sloppy. And so she ended up a suspect. Being questioned by the police as a possible suspect in the crime. And yet she was saved. Not due to someone else taking the fall, but because of the light. Crashing and resetting the earth. To a time where she wasn't under investigation. And a time where she's free to try again.[break][break]
