She’d brought Zachary along with her, as neither of them had anything better to do; life was slow today, which was honestly the way that Helen liked it. Helen chuckled. Who knew that this youngster would be so crucial to survival in the strange new world they found themselves in? Helen really needed to stop thinking like a mother and start thinking like a tactician, but there was something about Hana that elicited the former side of her in herself. Which was a shame, because Hana was considerably more competent at this sort of thing.[break][break]
Really, Helen was okay with just doing work behind the scenes instead of taking the spotlight all for herself. The more time to care for Zack with, after all.

Helen hummed to herself. Despite the dramatic change that had overtaken the world, some things remained the same – Zack was off in school for the morning, which meant that she had a few hours to herself. And the silver lining of this whole scenario was that she could travel more easily throughout the world.[break][break]
Paris was as lovely as she’d hoped it’d be. She’d never had the chance to come around here before, and when Zack was born, she was sure those days would be a long time away. But things had changed...considerably. [break][break]

Helen clambered down the climbing wall and sighed. At her age, doing the things that came almost effortlessly to her in her youth was getting harder and harder. On the benches near the door, Zack sat playing a video game – he was a good kid, so Helen knew he wouldn’t stray too far. [break][break]
As she picked up her towel and wiped herself of sweat, she noticed another prospective climber approaching. “Hi there, miss. “It would appear so.” Helen blinked and looked at the menu in front of her. She still didn’t know what was going on, but she did know that she needed to find Zack as soon as possible. It didn’t matter where they were – come hell or high water, she’d make sure he was safe.[break][break]
This girl had been a good teammate, all things considered. Helen could probably trust her, and would follow her back to her house if requested. But there was still one last matter left to resolve.[break][break]

At the ghost’s display of weakness, Helen smiled her most shit-eating grin; Hana didn’t have to tell her twice. Really, this entire thing was getting pretty thrilling, despite the obvious risk to their lives that the ghost presented. Fortunately, the ghost didn’t seem to phase out of her bubble, either.[break][break]
With the ghost still fixed firmly in her bubble, Helen activated her rush again, diving straight at the creature. Hopefully, this time would be enough to put an end to the damned boss fight and get the two of them to safety. And the sooner she could get to Zack, the better.

In the split-second before the flash, Helen opened her menu and searched for the commands – but before she could try anything with them, the flash from the spotlights blinded her. Then she felt something careen straight into her torso, knocking her off her feet. “Fuck!” she said, narrowly catching herself. Come to think of it, was she always this durable?[break][break]
As she stood up again and blinked thrice, Helen lamented her choice of action. So standing her ground against the ghost girl was a bad idea, wasn’t it?[break][break]
“God dammit!” she hissed, as she opened her menu a second time. She still couldn’t see, though, which was proving to be something of a problem! What was wrong with this video game shit?

Helen’s eyes went wide. They’d failed? What would happen to them now? After a second of thought, she realized that it didn’t take a genius to figure out what would happen to them now. Gritting her teeth, she adopted a fighting stance – if she was going to die here, she wasn’t going to go out without a fight. [break][break]
“Yeah, I don’t think so, you bitch. Come on, then!” [break][break]
…She hadn’t thought of how she’d actually go about fighting this ghost woman. But dammit, she wasn’t going to stand around like a dead fish or try and dodge the ghost woman forever! That just wasn’t her.[break][break]
