Adam was doing his best to try and not immediately explode in the vicinity of the pinkette, because throwing a temper tantrum was not productive or something like that.

Now she was taunting him, even better. Except she likely saw it as some kind of fun little joke. He was neither exceedingly big nor tall, and he certainly didn’t enjoy being called some kind of meathead.

His glancing glare was the perfect and only subtle hint of saying ‘whatever’ without actually saying the word.

They walked together. At least she had the mind to do something useful, but it hardly seemed like she was actually doing anything at all. But she just kept talking like she didn’t know how to be quiet. Adam still stayed silent, trying not to give her more fuel to work with.

But of course, when she eventually threatened to call him sort of pet name, the brunette paused.

“Adam.” He said simply, before continuing his trek.

And as soon as he was done with his curt interaction, the pair just happened upon a partcularly rocky area on the side of the mountain. Tall, white silver rocks weathered down by what looked like years of erosion surrounded a small square opening lined with wooden beams. Upon looking inside, the pair would a winding tunnel that had typical mining lanterns lining down the cave.

Before heading down the cave, Adam reached out with his hand. A blur of pixels and electrical fire burst forth and suddenly, he was holding a briefcase. When he opened it, he found a simple short sword and sheath, which he hung around his back, and not one, but actually two sticks of dynamite….

He placed both sticks in his back pocket and let the briefcase fall from his hands, it faded once again into a blur of pixels and electric blue flame.

He then went down the tunnel without waiting for Elisande.

Watching the burning puddles melt away, Adam let out a deep breath. It still wasn’t enough. It wouldn’t be enough if he wanted to win. He needed to win. That was the only way to succeed in this world now.

He looked down at the handle of his dagger, frowning.

But then he looked up and saw something move. It was too big to be a slime. It had to be a person.

Adam glanced away. Were they trying to hide from him? They weren’t doing the best of jobs if so. He didn’t feel much difference in the air, and a moment later, he decided to summon his warning bell from his inventory.

It didn’t ring.

Finally turning back to the shadow, Adam shook his head while he crossed his arms. “I can see you.” He said.

But rather than the usual accompaniment of health potions or spray paint, there were two peices of armor, one was a small armshield and the other was a chestplace. Neither were very sturdy looking but some protecting was better than none. When he put both of them on he looked like some kind of lazy larper. [break][break] Whatever. [break][break] He’d leveled up recently, and since that level up, he’d gotten a new ability. He wanted to test it out. So, he hopped a warp point to Seoul, the battle-torn city of slimes, and wanted to test said powers against the poor creatures. [break][break] They were easy enough to grind out XP on and kill. [break][break] Adam looked around the empty street, catching site of a small smile just beside an unmoving vehicle. He lifted his sword and swung down. [break][break]
Ability Activated: Chaos Flash [break] Adam supposed that if he didn’t have a weapon, he could still use the stupid briefcase. But at least with a sword, he didn’t look as ridiculous. Blue flames erupted in front of him in a conal-like area that encompassed around 25 feet from where he swung down. They left behind scorch marks and the slimes didn’t appear to have time to scream as they were burned away into nothing, leaving embers of puddles on the ground. The car was also scorched, and the ground below was blackened by the fire. [break][break] Looking at the destruction he had caused, Adam neither smiled nor frowned. [break][break] All he could think about was how much more power he still needed. Like those puppies with the eyes… [break][break] ”....but I can cook." [break] Adam paused, thinking over the supposed reward. How much was money worth anyway in this new world? Travel was nearly limitless with waypoints, and it seemed like healing and health could be bought through the shop… But food? Did they still need to eat, right? And a free meal was a free meal… [break][break] They still needed to find the dog. The sapsali or whatever. [break][break] “Right.” Adam responded a bit more thoughtfully this time. “I’ll be sure to keep an eye out.” He confirmed before looking a bit awkwardly away. [break][break] “How about a name? Your name. In case I find this dog of yours.” Adam added as he started to walk, assumingly the guy would follow him. [break][break] But just as they began down the street, a strange voice from an alleyway sounded… It was weird, high pitched, immediately annoying. [break][break] “I wondered when you would come looking. Oh, and it's you too, 'Vincent's bitch'!" [break] “Fuck you too.” Adam responded, immediately taking up a defensive stance. His whole body tensed as he gripped hard on his dagger, looking on at the strange scene before the pair. A bunch of dogs and cats sitting around a kiosk and then a peculiar pixelated avatar that didn’t look human at all. [break][break] Even when the animals came bounding towards them, Adam didn’t flinch, and he only returned a dark, moody glare to the thing called Earth-chan. [break][break] He glowered, then glanced back to Min-su. He was near certain that the guy had next to none in terms of combat capability. So that either meant Adam was going to do all the fighting if it came to that, or he'd essentially have to worry about someone else getting in the way. As much as he would have hated to admit anyone was even somewhat right (he was still no one’s bitch), out of all the people he’d met since the system had taken over, he would have preferred Vincent at his side. A blur of pixels and binary later, the group found themselves in a hot fucking hellhole.

Right, Nevada desert. Adam hadn’t been lucky enough to find himself in the middle of the desert ever, but he supposed that today was that lucky day. With a sweep of his hand, he took out his warning bell from his inventory. The rest of the party could do what they wanted, but he was going to do the job that the notification was telling them to. That meant scouting, finding higher ground, and in general, trying to pay attention to whatever the hell was happening around them.

He nodded toward Vincent once before heading away from the rest of them. He then whisked his hand outward again; better to do it now than later. A briefcase appeared, like usual, along with a flashy show of blue flames across his face that left behind a half mask.

He opened the briefcase to find a short sword (thank god) and two potions. Great, not the most practical pair of items, but at least he was given a weapon this time. He attached both potions to his belt and hung the sword behind his back. The briefcase then faded into pixels as he let go of it to throw it away.

He made sure not to stray too far away from the party, just in case, he would get another one of the or else notifications. With the sun high, he used his hand to shade his eyes and looked out across the empty desert.

Just why is it that he suddenly happened upon a stranger that decided that his business was her business? [break][break] "Besides, it's dangerous out here, right?" [break] Yes, it was. At least the warning for this area had called it a medium risk place. Adam was only barely sure what that meant, but it wasn’t high, so that was a lot better, at least in his eyes. [break][break] She said she was going to protect him. He looked her up and down. Pretty in pink, warm smile, sunny disposition. [break][break] Yeah, she was going to be doing plenty of protecting. [break][break] “Protect yourself.” He said, uncrossing his arms, walking past her, and summarily ignoring her giggles, warm smiles, and any attempts to be friendly with him. She didn’t want to be a damsel in distress. Good, then she wouldn’t be getting in the way. The sounds of branches crackled underneath his feet as he brushed past some branches and other greenery. [break][break] He was walking along the side of the mountain in search of signs of an opening or cave. If the girl had taken enough time to read the mission, she would know they needed to get inside to explore the hollow caverns. Suddenly, there was a person on his shoulder. He flinched, initially surprised to find that it was a girl who somehow acted like she apparently knew him or was just so casual with him, like they were the best of friends.

Was she mistaking him for somebody? No way, if she was that close to him already taking. He couldn’t really say much because he didn’t have the time.

She already pushed ‘accept’ on his viewing screen and then quickly hit her own.

“Hey!” He exclaimed, but before he had the chance to say anything else, a familiar and almost sickening whirl of pixels and code engulfed them both.

They both suddenly found themselves in a middle of a forest, silent save for the random birds' calls or the sound of buzzing and rustling of the wind in the trees. It was sunny, but sunlight only barely peaked through the canopy of leaves above them. And just beside them, a rocky outcrop of uneven stones and piled high dirt signaled the beginning of a mountainside.

“The hell?” Adam demanded, looking at the girl as his brow furrowed. He only barely caught that her name was 'Elisande' or something before they had been whisked away. He’d known exactly what she had done, and he understood that he was suddenly taking this mission with her. But none of it was anything that he liked.

[break] Adam did. And suddenly, Vincent came from almost nowhere the makeshift broom handle weapon in his hands as he landed the killing blow. [break][break] Standing back, Adam looked at the notification of the boss’s defeat. He turned to Vincent, now nearly collapsed on the floor. After their victory, a disturbing sense of quiet filled the room. Blood pooled on the floor, dripping between pieces of trash and other rat bodies. Adam breathed out, un skewering the spear from the lifeless corpse of the rat king. [break][break] It’s done. Adam thought. [break][break] But also, it wasn’t. [break][break] There was still Al Dotler to deal with. Even with Vincent’s efforts to stop the man, he was still alive, struggling at the moment to stand up. Adam inclined his head, seeing Vincent’s messages pop up one after another. He could deal with him if he wanted to, and he had the spear. Adam’s grip on the polearm tightened as he flicked the blood off. [break][break] But then, he abruptly threw the spear back to Vincent. [break][break] Instead, he grabbed Al Dolter by his dirted shirt nearly lifting the man off the ground. Adam had figured right, he was much stronger than he should have been. [break][break]Muscles tensed tightly as he gripped at the man’s shirt, fire in his dark eyes as he spat out words of venom. [break][break] “I know you,” Adam started, “I know people like you, selfish, ungrateful, self-serving bastards who watch out only for themselves.” [break][break] “In fact, I’m just like you.” Adam continued, pulling suddenly on the man’s shirt, causing the poor middle-ager to falter. “But the difference between us, is that I’m stronger now.” [break][break] And with that, Adam threw the man down on the floor, watching as he groveled in fear of the youth. “I won’t kill you because I’m not the one you need to fight. We live in a new world now, one where strength means survival. Strength… by any means necessary…” [break][break] He turned toward Vincent, narrowing his eyes, but his gaze didn’t last as he turned back toward the man, kneeling down to his level. “So, if you want to live, fight and survive. If you don’t, then you’ll die.” [break][break] “And I’ll be there as you cringe and crawl through the dirt, being pulled down by your inability as you get left behind. [break][break] There were plenty of missions to be taken. [break][break] Adam specifically was looking for one that could be taken solo, of course, and could be somewhat of a challenge but was easy enough that he could still do it. He was still lowlevel after all and this concept of missions and grinding, though new to him, was something he understood well. Do jobs, get money. Except, in this case, it was do jobs that may or may not be life-threatening and gain experience to get stronger. That was his end goal here. Become stronger. [break][break] He’d found himself on the edges of what remained of civilized society in North America. Somehow, his home city of Los Angeles had been spared the destruction and reconstruction that so many other areas of the globe had suffered. Still, naught the same could be said of this ‘Hollow Hills’ zone, formerly a mountainous region now turned overgrown and Hollow on the inside. It was an area unexplored and labeled as ‘medium risk,’ which meant that it could be something he could take on. [break][break] Take up a mission, explore the area, and potentially kill some low-level to equivalent monsters for experience… [break][break] Aha! There was one. Explore the inside of Belt Mountain and retrieve any valuable materials. It seemed to be promising… [break][break] “This one…” Adam said, before tapping on the mission’s holographic overlay. He’d never been anywhere outside the United States, save for the times that Earth-chan had teleported him in the middle of monster-infested buildings. He still wasn’t quite sure that had happened in the United States, but whatever.

So there were these waypoint things that allowed one to go practically anywhere in the world at any time, so he decided to give it a try because why not? He could be curious, and perhaps he was about the brand new world they all were living in. What if he had some encounters that helped him level up and become stronger?

He’d be down for it. That’s all that mattered in this system, being strong.

He could be strong. Useful. In control. He preferred it to his old life.

And so, that was how he ended up walking around some of the empty streets of Seoul. Cars were haphazardly left around the place, papers and trash blowing in the breeze. He barely saw anyone anywhere, actually no one. It was kind of creepy, actually, with how empty it was. That was strange, even a big as a city as this and no souls in site, save for the…. Slime monsters? They looked like they were made of jello, shiny, and left a kind of trail of goo when they hobbled around.

Without much thought, Adam rose his hand, and a wave of blue electric fire blazed over his face, leaving behind a white half mask. He wore a simple shirt and dark jeans, and he still hated how ridiculous the mask made him look, but it was the only way he knew how to activate his ability.

In another hand was a briefcase. He opened it and reached inside to find a dagger, a small potion, and the almost ever-present stick of dynamite. Picking out the dagger, he put the dynamite stick in his back pocket and clipped the health potion to his belt.

There was a small slime on top of a car hood, about the size of a large house cat. Looking the green thing just sitting there, Addam raised his dagger with his fist and… poked it.
[break][break]
Well, he tried to stab it, but it came off as more like a really hard poke because the thing couldn’t very well be ‘stabbed’ as it had no flesh. As Adam retreated the blade, goo stuck to the metal like bits of pudding on a utensil.

“Gross.” He muttered, unsure exactly what he had expected.

But then he heard something, or rather… someone.
[break][break]
It didn’t sound like a monster, and it certainly wasn’t. Adam tucked the dagger away as he watched as some guy was calling out names he couldn’t quite make out At least he assumed they were names, or maybe they were a call for help. Adam looked around, seeing that he was the only person in the entire area. The guy had a hope of hearing his cries, and it was too late to hide by the time he could spot him.

The last call did make Adam incline his head. Pepero? Wasn’t that like a snack? Like Pocky? Why in the hell would a guy be screaming about snacks?
