Even though she had her phone back now, it still hadn’t come back online. It turned out the library wasn’t the only place that had changed, but the entire world–or at least, what she had seen of it so far. The landscape too had been twisted and distorted, with wild mountains now filling the landscape. Most people were gone, and the few that she had come across were just trying to survive and make sense of this new gamified planet they lived on.[break][break] Thankfully, Argent felt like she was doing a pretty good job surviving so far. All the deserted stores made food and supplies pretty easy to come across, and though that would change in the coming months and years if things stayed like this, it was more than enough for her to be able to move around for now. Many of the people she had come across had decided to bunker down and start trying to make livable shelters, places to farm and keep safe from the monsters outside, but Argent herself HAD to keep moving. Both in body and mind she was restless, and she was going to be until she saw Auri again. [break][break] Maps were a little more useless than before with how different the land was now, but they still provided a general enough direction for her to move from city to city successfully. Argent was just about to start her trek out of one town when one of the people who still lived there stopped her. [break][break] “Y-you’re strong enough to survive out there r-right? Could you kill some of the spiders in the forest? I-I don’t really understand it yet, but it’s letting me offer a “quest” to get rid of them, so I’m asking anyone that comes through…”[break][break] After he spoke, Argent got another pop up in her face, just like when she first picked her class out. Just like they said, it was a quest to start killing spiders that were popping up in the area before they grew too big in numbers. The more she experienced this new world, the more ways she found out it was like a video game. Whenever she played a game, Argent ALWAYS did all the side quests she could find–some people avoided them to rush through the story, but she wasn’t one of those people. She clicked to accept the quest, and gave the person a smile. ”Don’t worry, I’ll do what I can. I can definitely handle some silly little spiders, so thanks for the heads-up!”[break][break] Aside from the benefit it gave her, Argent also liked completing side quests to see the little stories in games. It was so satisfying to help people out, and here in the real world, things were no different. She would happily take out whatever spiders she came across if it made things easier for the people of that town! It was safe to say that the past few days had been some of the most mentally challenging in his entire life. No sooner did he 'teleport' to a completely alien landscape was he thrust amidst a labyrinth of puzzle with 11 others under the guise of a beginners "Introduction". He and the person he'd partnered with had survived its trials and tribulations as they pushed their way through to complete the objectives. Not all were as fortunate.[break][break]
The magically coded walls faded which allowed Tiberius and his forcibly bound teammate from the confines of their [TUTORIAL]. He'd hoped with all his being that the drastic changes were limited to their digital barrier, and that when they were lifted from completing the objective he'd see a more recognizable World. How foolish. The chaos was simply on a larger scale.[break][break]
A sigh escaped his lips and his tired eyes closed momentarily behind heavy lids. This was REAL, and he'd have to fight through hell to see his Wife and Children again. And he would. The beat of heavy feathered wings snapped him into focus as GARUDA soared for the sky, each flap felt by Tiberius as they were bonded companions for life. She didn't enjoy the confinement imposed by the [TUTORIAL] and her frustrations were felt by her Human counterpart due to their link. So the joy she felt when her wings cut through unrestricted air was a rare moment.[break][break]
As GARUDA reached altitude she relaxed her feathered wings to widen and stretch, allowing her 2 meter wingspan to soar effortlessly above. As a Female Harpy Eagle she was one of the largest of her kind with talons as sharp as knives and eyes just as keen. Her gaze darted through her surroundings while relaying basic information to Tiberius through their bond. It was nothing detailed or intrinsic rather it translated to very basic messages and images as their relationship was still fresh. Trust and time was needed to hone their edge. But it was obvious something had caught her attention and moments later a status window popped up in front of Tiberius's gaze:[break][break]

The Father swiped his hand on the holographic screen, accepting the DYNAMIC QUEST and initiating its objective requirements. He needed to find his Family, yes. But as he was he'd not survive long enough to seek them out for long. He needed to get stronger, and do so he needed to....Level Up. The very concept made him snort, how preposterous. Yet here he was, doing what he needed to so he could seek out his loved ones. And part of that was maintaining his odds of success, which seemed to have been emboldened by the unlikely partnership he'd endured during his tutorial.[break][break]
His gaze shifted to the Prisoner to whom had shown proficient use in their gifted art, so much so that Tiberius had questioned who the 'Monsters' really were in their dungeon.[break][break]
"Listen, uh Garuda has found a nest of small nest of Monsters a few paces North. I don't suppose you'd want to continue our mutual partnership a little bit longer?"

He had been locked up since he was a very young man so getting out and doing what he wanted was like playtime to him. The immaturities in his demeanor while minute were still apparent. "Hell yeah, like in all those video games I use to play before I got locked up, we can continue our lil party." Somehow Calico had procured(stolen) a cardigan from one of the other participants in the tutorial.[break][break] He wore it over his orange jumpsuit fixing it fashionably as he looked over the mission request he just got. "Just some spoods aye?" He questions scratching his chin.[break][break] Calico had all sorts of ambitions now that he was out. No doubt there would be hella warrants for his arrest, but with the way the world was going he presumed that a plethora of criminals all over the world got out. He didn't see any governments being well equipped to handle the sudden change with almost all electronics, cars and guns being fucked in this new world, so his chances of finally doing everything he wanted seemed pretty good. But first; he had to get strong.[break][break] They needed to hurry if they were to make it anywhere on time to the entrance of the labyrinth. He'd put his hand on his brow squinting as he'd seen ten holes carved neatly into the side of the nearby rocky terrain. As she moved into the forest proper, it didn’t take long for Argent to find exactly what the villager had warned her of. She already had dealt with the occasional monster here and there, but these Spiderlings looked a bit different than she expected; they were absolutely MASSIVE compared to the spiders she was used to–the size of a basketball–but the strangest thing about them was the way they moved around. She first found a small group of two of them, and was surprised to see one of the spiders take to the air with a long string of web floating above it. The way the wind carried it up and away almost reminded her of a balloon, or a dandelion–though at least like those, the spider didn’t seem to be in control of where the wind took it. [break][break]
Flying spiders was not on her list of things she had thought to find out here in the mountains, but with just one enemy in front of her, Argent decided to take action. She pulled her lunar knife into her hand and dashed forward straight for the spiderling, lunging to sink the blade straight into its cephalothorax. Plain strikes with her dagger weren’t as powerful as her Crescent Slash, but even just a regular attack was enough to take one of these spiders out. As long as she avoided large groups and went after them one by one, this quest shouldn’t be that difficult at all. [break][break]
When glancing back to the sky to try and spot where that other arachnid had floated off to, Argent noticed that she wasn’t the only one hunting spiders. Instead of a spider floating around up in the air, there was a big ass bird flying around. ”Aw shit.” Argent realllllly wasn’t a fan of birds like that, and although she knew she could take out the spiderlings, a big bird like that was a different story. [break][break]
She’d have to be wary of the bird, but at least by watching it she was able to find another little nest of spiders. Argent didn’t want to strike while it was still hovering around, but she DID have a plan to take out two birds with one stone. Or well, one bird with a bunch of spiders. Instead of hiding in the bushes, she decided to hop right out and try to goad them all into getting into a fight. [break][break]
”Hey, bird! Want some spiders?! You’ll have to beat me to them!” Argent had learned that her Class, despite being DPS oriented, had more tools than just raw damage. As she fought, it let her cycle through “moon phases”, and currently she was in her Crescent phase–meaning that even if they managed to get a hit in on her, she at least had a health buff to give a bit more protection![break][break]

Garuda, a Harpy Eagle, refrained from striking the lingering arachnids without command from Tiberius so instead circled above. This gave its companion and his temporary team mate a fair indication on where the gathering nests of beasts gathered which prompted the father to gradually burst into a dash. The rolling field soon blended into thicker gatherings of trees, not quite a Forest but not just a scattering of brush, and his field of vision was limited due to vegetation. It was here he relied more on his flying bond, allowing their connection to guide him through unassuming trees.[break][break]
As Tiberius and Mori closed their distance, Garuda was prompted to initiate her attack through mental command. This caused her to fold her wings into her frame, causing her body to lose altitude as she barreled into a swift dive. Her wide predatory eyes fixed on her 8 legged prey as her beak cut through the wind in her descent while her eager talons spread in anticipation. As she got closer to the ground he spread his feathers out which allowed her to catch the wind, forcing the entirety of her wings to spread outwards in its great span and flicking her legs and dagger like claws towards an arachnids exoskeleton segment. The combination of speed and sharpened talon sliced through the spider like a hot knife through butter causing higher pitched squeals and clicks to reverberate from its dying body.[break][break]
The timing would have seemed fortuitous for Argent who'd previously attempted to goad Garuda into attacking, not realizing that her actions were performed after the command of her bonded companion and not through provocation. Tiberius made his way through the clearing, exposing his mediocre stature to the individual who'd already made it there before them. Argent knew her plan was a little bit out there, but… it worked! The bird swooped down and ripped apart one of the spiders, leaving one less monster for her to deal with. She was ready to jump into the fight herself, when suddenly someone else appeared. ”O-oh! Wait, is that your bird?!” Argent hadn’t met anyone with a pet like that, but if this new world was supposed to mirror games, it made sense for there to be beastmaster classes. [break][break]
”But no, yeah; I’m working on a quest too. To take out the spiders around here. I guess you are too?” This new guy either wasn’t alone, or coincidentally someone else had found their way into the clearing with them. This new guy was a bit more suspicious to Argent, walking around in an orange jumpsuit of all things. ”Yeah, spider killing.” She kept her dagger in hand for that added little bit of comfort–something that came in handy as a group of spiders hissed and started towards the group. ”Oh shit, I don’t think they’re giving us a break!” [break][break]
Seeing an opportunity to use her new skill, Argent dashed towards a group of three spiderlings. She moved right into the middle of the group, shouting ”Relentless Slash!” as her knife moved in a flash. The skill would let her slash a random number of times against her enemies, so with the first slash she took out the spider to her left, slicing it in two. With the second slash of the ability, she flipped her knife around to slice at a spider to her right, ending its life as the ability ended. ”Only two? Not bad!” [break][break]
Each slash was about as powerful as a regular attack with her knife, but thankfully it seemed as though all of these spiders were one-hit KO. It made sense… in video game terms, it seemed like these were the low level fodder mobs. Argent just hoped there weren’t any bigger, badder mommy spiders nearby. Though spiderlings were all throughout this mountain, she turned to the last one in front of her. It reared back, opening its mouth to hiss or spit at her or something, but she plunged her knife through it before it had the chance. [break][break]

It was a subtle half joke. She seemed like a capable survivor, that much was for sure. In his short time in the new World he'd noticed a few that endured their tutorial, only to fall into a manner of despair with some falling into a state of denial. It was refreshing to see survivors who adapted, and harnessed the gifts given to them (whether accepted freely or forcibly).
"This...system, call it what you will, informed us of an eradication quest. Mori and I were nearby"
He left out the fact that they'd recently only completed their own tutorial. Having been teamed together in their introduction, they'd somehow navigated their trial and come out victorious. As uncanny as their partnership were, temporary as it may be, they were effective. And in this New World effectiveness in survival far outweighed initial judgement. As they were navigating their introductions the Spiders burst forth to eradicate the intruders who stumbled upon their territory.
"It appears not-" he replied to her observation "We can continue this talk AFTER we've eradicated this nest."
His gaze trailed back to look for Mori who had previously drifted behind in his own wanderings. Tiberius had learnt by now not to question the ex convicts strategy, and was more effective to be left to his own devices. The younger man grasped onto this system alot quicker than he did, and it wouldn't be wholly untrue to claim that Tiberius leant on Mori during the tutorial while he sorted out how things worked. Instead he looked to his companion Garuda, the large female Harpy Eagle. With a soft whistle he sent her to the skies where she would spread her impressive wing span, her keen eyes scanning for her next victim.
Tiberius calmed himself by taking a deep breath, feeling his muscles relax while slowing down his heart beat. By now he'd had a bit of practice with his [SEASONSTRIDER] class, and was confident enough to use its skills practically. With a snap of his finger he changed the season within his skills area of influence, the clear warm aura starting to crackle and snap with energy. His aura standardly radiated to an area of 30 ft, to which his ability was limited within its effects. But as he changed the influencing season to [THUNDERSTORM], its area shrunk to 15ft but increasing its effects power.
The zone around Tiberius crackled and snapped with thunderous energy, causing strands of electricity to branch around him. An arachnid scampered towards him uncaring, seeing him as an easy meal. As soon as it came into the area of effect its body went limp as a fork of lightning manifested, shooting out and piercing the arachnids exoskeleton. Although it damaged the spider, it did not kill it.
Garuda swept down from the skies, claws outstretched wide. Tiberius extended his right hand open, facing his companion and channeled the seasonal energy into her. As he was in his [DRY] state, the energy he transferred was of the Fire element, causing the tips of her feathers and claws to flicker with fire and ash. Garudas talons dug deep into the exoskeleton of the paralyzed Spider, ripping into its back and killing it.

Mori let his hand fall as a whip appeared suddenly. He gripped the end of the tail lashing it forward as it shot through spiderling after spiderling in a single extension. His attention remained on the girl before them, a curiosity about her washed over him. She was pretty, he wonder if he could get her number...did they still do numbers now a days?

He had heard from people ho came in that a majority of people favored interacting with social media rather than write down digits. He wondered what kind of social media she liked, if she posted pretty selfies on them, and who her friends were. His thoughts came to and end as more spiders came down. He'd whip them all in half in silence.

”Thunder?! Jesus, I haven’t met any magic classes yet!" The man with the bird was full of surprises, but Argent couldn’t help but wonder just how loaded his class was. Magic and a pet?! Lowkey, she hoped she would be able to find a pet like that too- but not a dumb bird! [break][break]
The other man here had a less dazzling method of attack. ”Woah, and that’s a gnarly whip!” She hadn’t seen it before, so it must’ve been the kind of item that could be summoned, unlike her dagger which was always on her person. [break][break]
It seemed like they had made pretty sure work of the spiders around this area. ”Well, I’m gonna see if I can’t find more arachnids to take a stab at. heh. Feel free to follow; with all of us in these mountains, I’m sure we’ll finish this quest quick.” Argent didn’t wait around to find out if the others were sticking with her or not, and started jogging away. She was sure that the mountains held plenty of spiders to fight, so Argent wasn’t too particular about her path. There was a massive, jagged hill nearby that seemed to almost be flying over the woods, so she decided to make her way towards it to see if she couldn’t find a way on top. Sure enough, one side of it had an old ruined stairway curving around the hill towards the top- stairs with spiders crawling along them. [break][break]
Two spiderlings at the base of the stairs, and another three a little bit further ahead. Argent grinned as she tossed her knife in her hand and began dashing towards the enemies. ”HEY BUGS!” The spiderlings jumped around to face her, hissing as one of them took a dagger to the face that she yeeted from the distance. The second spider seemed mad about its comrade’s swift defeat and started charging Argent, the two of them dashing right for each other in a game of chicken- a game that Argent jumped out of at the last second, leaping over the monster! Her relentless slash was on cooldown, and her knife was still lodged in the corpse of that other spider, but this was exactly where she wanted to be. [break][break]

Argent’s body twisted in the air over the spider, her leg falling down in an arc with a silvery trail behind it to collide with the spider and send it reeling away, lifeless. [break][break]

She was a bit swifter than those he saw in his tutorial, cuter too. His eyes trained on her making sure to watch her back incase any spiderlings decided to ambush her. Picking her Lunar Knife out of the spider's corpse, she realized one of the men did actually decide to follow along. It was the one in the jumpsuit… she didn't trust him, at least could be glad that the bird man didn't follow along. He was fighting against his own batch of spiderlings, she had just been so carried away that she didn't even realize until now.[break][break]
Taking out that last spider had put Argent into her next lunar cycle, Full Moon, granting her that blur and partial invisibility that she loved so much. "Any fancy moves? Now's your chance." Argent pointed to the next grouping of spiders ahead of them. "Start an attack and I'll sneak around behind them for a pincer, we'll wipe them out quick!"[break][break]
Taking full advantage of her shifting image, Argent crouched down along the side of the path. She used whatever cover she could find to quickly strafe around to the side of the monster group, utilizing a little bit of parkour to pull herself up a ledge. From there, she waited, dagger in hand, waiting for this guy to give her the perfect opportunity to strike.[break][break]
Waiting.. waiting.. and… NOW! Suddenly darting out of her hiding spot, Argent sliced straight through one of the remaining spiders from behind. Her invisibility from Full Moon had the handy effect of empowering her strikes, and with the element of surprise added on, the spiderling never stood a chance![break][break]

His jumpsuits more inmate qualities were hidden by the cardigan but it was becoming more apparent by the minute. He watched her shift as her abilities suddenly grew or evolved; he wasn't sure. "Nope, I'm pretty basic to be honest. But I'll show you what I can."[break][break] As the spiderlings neared he'd lash his whip out cracking right through one immediately. He'd let the other two pounce on him, his hand outstretched to one grabbing it. Its teeth sunk into his flesh as the other one bite into his skin. To any other person he would of been poisoned but somehow Calico was just fine. Energy surged as a sickly green ancient marking appeared on one of the spiders. It screamed out falling as the marking slowly faded into mist, its legs kicking one final time as he had marked its soul. "Hmm, I wanted to see what that was like on beast who actual had souls. Suppose it hurts." For someone that was “pretty basic”, whatever kind of abilities this guy had were just as wicked as that whip of his. Argent herself was nimble enough to avoid damage against most things she’s fought so far, but this dude just STRAIGHT UP tanked a spider hit. Sure, they were weak, but he didn’t even seem to be poisoned by it. Another one of his abilities seemed pretty magical, marking one of the spiders and killing it. Argent didn’t know how that one worked, but she didn’t want to be on the receiving end to find out. [break][break]
”Niceee that’s kinda creepy but like hey, it works! What’s your class then, some kinda… err, explorer? Indiana Jones type beat?”[break][break]
Resuming the ruined path up the stairs once more, It seemed like they had almost reached the top of the hill. Sure enough, the end of the stairs was marked by a small marble arch. And, Sure enough, the arch was covered in spiderlings. ”Another grouping, hm? At least we’re almost to the top… as many as we’ve taken out so far, surely the quest is almost complete right?”[break][break]
Argent crouched down as she surveyed the spiders ahead. They looked just like the others that had already been defeated, so she had no doubt that they could take them out easily. One of the spiders was dangling from a web right in the center of the arch- something that Argent grinned as she noticed and began tossing her knife in her hand. [break][break]
”On my side of things, my class makes me an assassin. I don’t have much variety of attacks, but the ones I do have…”[break][break]
From the spider’s perspective, it must’ve seemed like the attack came out of nowhere! One minute it was dangling from a web, and the next, Argen’ts dagger had soared through the air and pinned it clean against the ruin’s stone behind it. [break][break]

His voice was sly, slick with a tone that one could mistake for seductive if they were naïve.[break][break] His orange jumpsuit and demeanor which changed from quiet to talkative also didn't help. It was like his mind was trying to decide how he should act, who he should be and what he should do. There was one clear thing about Calico, the years in prison had turned him into something else. The once bright eyed happy-go-lucky outspoken youthful hoodlum was a criminal through and through, and there was a clear way some criminals operated. His whip outstretched in a manner that seemed like it would hit Argent, the tip of the manticore's tail missing her and hitting a spider that would attempt to rise up as if to avenge its fallen brethren. "I am a lot more plain than you madam. But still effective nonetheless.."[break][break] He'd step past Argent walking through the Marble arch. "Let me go first incase of an ambush I gotcha." Giving a little wink he'd continue forward until they got to the pinnacle that was the top.[break][break] Getting to the top the two would see a pit, small as it may be; the damn thing was still brimming with spiderlings.
