The safe zone was nice, but they found themselves getting a bit too antsy when they sat still for too long. And the possible dangers of getting accosted by a monster outside of the SZ was better than the thoughts of their twin and where they were now. On this walk, Auriel was thinking about the strange monster that had been offered a choice by Earth-Chan. The monster itself, "Monsieur Smilz" was creepy but the fact that their home-turned-tormentor had offered it the chance to "Evolve" was even more unsettling. It was like the monster was becoming something close to a player.[break][break] Which was weird, because that would mean that it would become as strong or even stronger than the players. And in these things, the players were supposed to win...right?[break][break] Auri toyed with the key in his hand as well, turning it around and around idly. It was a strange and ominous little thing, an aftermath of that weird evolution thing. Another byproduct of it was that island between the Black and Mediterranean Seas. Massive, an unknown population, and seemingly appeared out of nowhere hours after Smilz' power up had been broadcast I wonder what game Earth-Chan is playing...maybe I should figure out a way to ask? Their musings were interrupted by the appearance of a system message:[break][break] [attr="class","aurisysbox"] [attr="class","aurisysbar"] system message[break] Enter Ender Island? Y/N[break] Wait a second... Auriel pulled out their phone and tapped a few times, pulling up the news reel of the strange island. The phone was pretty much useless outside of a few apps that didn't need wifi, but there were people around with news and information related classes, like the person who originally broadcasted about the island, who were capable of transmitting information through otherwise defunct electronic devices. It was particular, but handy. Auriel checked and sure enough there was the name "Ender Island".[break][break] The blonde made a decision the moment they saw the message, to be frank. They took a moment, minimizing the screen in order to pull out another. They sent Summer a party invite, seeing as he was currently out and didn't want to just disappear on her. He and the pinkette had wound up in the same safe zone and, having known one another from the tutorial decided to bunk together. After that he sent a simple PM "Turn the key, maybe we can find some Endermen." As well as a selfie holding up the key and making a winky face with his tongue out.[break][break] Auri waited until Summer accepted before he pressed 'yes' on the system prompt. The ground below him flashed with a bright light as a waypoint formed below his feet. His world was all bright light for a long moment "I really hope this whole party system causes us to plop in the same area when we teleport..." He groaned softly as he was whisked away. Blue eyes glanced up at the little system prompt that popped up next to her. She had to blink a couple times to get her brain to work well enough to actually understand what was happening, though reading the text also helped. With a low groan Summer uncurled herself from the comfy corner she had made with a variety of cushions and pillows and put away her sketchbook and the half finished drawing within. Her joints and limbs protested as she stood up but that was kind of what she deserved after being tucked up into a half ball for several hours. She quickly snapped a selfie, just a simple one of throwing up a peace sign with a wink and putting down a quick message telling Auri that she was gonna get dressed and then join.[break][break]
She quickly threw on some shorts, a t-shirt and hoodie and then pulled on her socks and boots, hopping around a bit as she tried to get changed as quickly as possible. She pulled on the new belt that the System had granted her and reached under her pillow to pull out a pair of pink sunglasses with the lenses and frames shaped like stars and also her own key that she had found lying around. She flicked the glasses out and slipped them on and spun the key between her fingers. She hadn't really looked at the news recently but she'd seen people talking about some weirdo and his new island and how it was full of monsters. She then pulled her phone out as she accepted the party request to send her new friend a better message. "I hope not! Those things were mad creepy, kept stealing blocks off my house!" She took a deep breath and tossed her phone onto her bed at the last moment, something told her that something bad was going to happen...[break][break]
And then suddenly she wasn't standing in her room anymore, instead she had been dropped from a couple of feet in the air straight into water. She gasped and spluttered as she hit the water but at least it was only up to her belly button and she scrambled around for a moment before spotting Auriel nearby. "Water! Really?! I have socks on, this is terrible!" She wailed before taking stock of her location, noticing the nearby beach and the massive storm around the island. "Where the heck are we going, to the beach?" It was only then that a system notice appeared before her.[break][break]

"Oh crap!" Summer shouted and immediately summoned her sword and shield into her hands, wading through the water to Auri's side so that she could guard him, her eyes flicking around to try and catch sight of these so called Sea Guard.

The waygate was kind enough to transport him directly onto the ground, though he wasn't spared the water soaking through the cream colored material of his pants as well as his beige loafers. His coat, luckily, was just short enough to not touch the water's surface but something told him he would walk out of this about as drenched as his friend. He looked in the direction of the beach after she indicated it, a light frown on his face as he tried to ignore the wetness of cloth around his shins "Landward ho?"[break][break] Auriel swung his halberd from its resting place on his back, settling it on a shoulder before taking a few steps forward. He was stopped by the same system message about Sea Guard that Summer had received. He tightened his grip on his halberd and cast his eyes around for what would no doubt be a monster, letting the ever present warmth within him grant power to his limbs. He made the conscious decision, now knowing that there were monsters nearby, to dim the light that he almost constantly emitted. It was helpful for getting around in darkness, and for drawing eyes when he was around others, but it would make him a beacon for the monsters around.[break][break] Unfortunately for the blonde, he'd made the decision a bit too late. There was a swirl of movement from the side opposite to where Summer had moved, as an ugly piscine humanoid lunged from the waters and aimed to lash a webbed hand tipped in claws across his chest. Auriel had only a second to think Fast before the lantern necklace around his neck was flashing and a translucent red breastplate was manifesting to block the claws. He didn't think any further, simply swinging his halberd down in a wide arc an cleaving through the creature's upper torso in a singular blow "Found the Sea Guard." He informed Summer, probably unnecessarily, before a system message appeared[break][break] [attr="class","aurisysbox"] [attr="class","aurisysbar"] system message[break] You have slain Lvl 1 Sea Guard Scout.[break][break]
Mission: Defeat Sea Guard to gain access to Ender Island 1/6 [break] The blonde took a moment to peruse the words before more water bubbled and rose, revealing two more "Sea Guard". These ones looked bulkier than the others, and upon inspection the system revealed them to be Lvl 3 Sea Guard Infantry. They didn't rush in like their compatriot, stalking in the water and actually sizing up Auriel and Summer at his side. The aforementioned blonde raised a brow and let out a huff of air through his nose "I'll take the right, you take the left. Readysetgo!" He said the last part in a rush before dashing forward towards his chosen opponent, rearing his halberd back for charging strike. A wince ran across Summer's face as the first Sea Guard was easily slain. She grimaced and took a moment to check that Auriel was fine before nodding and turning back to the beach. "Still not used to the killing, gotta admit, feels weird..." She mumbled more to herself than her partner in soggy. She swallowed the lump in her throat and steadied her weapons though as two more appeared, she was happy to follow Auriel's call on what to do but she was expecting an actual countdown. Instead Auri just blasted forwards and sprayed her with water in his wake causing her to splutter and spit for a moment before groaning and charging forwards on her own.[break][break]
As she ran she kept her buckler forwards and her sword arm back, making sure to keep the buckler forward a bit so that attacks couldn't just deflect over the top. She'd made sure to try and watch some vids and get some books on how to sword fight so that she wasn't a complete loser at it like she was pretty sure she seemed during the tutorial. Either way once she closed in on the Sea Guard Infantry she swept in and lashed out with her blade, going straight for the creature's shoulder to try and take one of its arms out of commission with her glowing sword of love... And it was only then that she realised just how wrong that sounded in her head, she needed to give it a name to avoid this from now on. Hopefully these things weren't too tough, she'd been focusing on her defense instead of her offense, she didn't really like killing even if she had to do it.[break][break]
On the other side of the fight, the Sea Guard that Auriel was fighting had swung both claws down, deflecting the halberd strike mostly to the side though it had slashed across the creature's side, creasing scales and causing a spurt of blood. It then stepped in close and attempted to bite into Auriel's shoulder with teeth more akin to that of an angler fish than any human. It knew about long weapons and knew it had to be close to do damage so stepping into Auri's guard was sure to work, right? There was no way in this fishman's head it could go wrong.

He'd definitely deny the distraction of his laughter lending to his attack being pushed off to the side. Auriel let the attack come, his lantern necklace once more flashing in his defense. The fishman's teeth were stopped short by the glittering armor that protected Auriel's form at all times. He had to thank his luck again and again for getting this item, it really covered his lacking defense stat when Summer wasn't at his back to tank for him.[break][break]
Auriel shifted his grip higher up on his halberd, almost wielding it as a handaxe now. He dropped his shoulder and pushed into his opponent's midsection, attempting to knock it off balance with a simple shoulder check. He then swiped at its abdomen with the blade of his halberd once, twice, three times back and forth with quick and brutal motions. He wanted to finish this thing quickly without wasting too many resources, they didn't know what else they would face getting to the island after all.[break][break]
On Summer's end, her sword cut into the flesh of the Sea Guard, however rather than simply let the weapon rip off one of its limbs the creature let out a hiss and darted away from the blade. Summer had engaged the runner of the two, and in a bid to return the damage that had been done to it the creature rushed in an arc around Summer's unshielded side and lashed out where it could with wicked claws. It aimed at her legs, sides and back with its attacks, aiming for spots that would make movement a pain if not impossible. Landing that first blow definitely made her smile but she wasn't expecting the stupid fishman to be so slippery. Though as she thought about it, it did make sense considering they were still in waist deep water. Either way when it moved she wasn't the fastest but what she did have was the ability to not actually need to move her body to move her shield. The first two hits she simply let hit her, raising one leg so that they'd only slash at her thigh and hip rather than anywhere more vital. The blows were blunted by her high defense stat luckily and then the third that came would find itself striking the gleaming buckler that she had actually turned and launched outwards. As the strike hit it, it flashed and a bright pink light washed over Summer, healing the wounds that she had already taken.

She wasn't just going to sit there and let it slash away however and as the last attack was blocked she had already ducked under the buckler, taking her sword into both hands and attempting to ram it up and under the fishman's ribs. If she landed it successfully she'd brace herself and then swing out to the side, ripping the blade out of the creature's body and hopefully putting it down for good, they still had more of these bloody things to kill before they could actually get to the island so she needed to get a bit of a hurry on!

On the other side of the battle, the glowing armour blocking its strike had sent a rattle down the Sea Guard's body and then the shoulder drove it back, loosening its footing and causing it to screech out horrible fish noises. It attempted to right itself and lash out but the rapid, wicked strikes from Auriel tore open its chest and sprayed both Auri and the water around it with brackish purple blood. It gurgled out its end and dipped under the water, floating off to the side with the tide. Another flash came up showing their progress towards finishing this objective.

She wasn't sure if these fishmen could feel surprise but as her sword drove into the monster's chest it definitely seemed surprised. She grimaced as she pulled the sword out of the creature's chest and it dropped almost silently into the water, floating away on the tide. That was one more that was dead, only a few more to go. She knew that Auri could deal with the others on his side, so this set was all up to her! Her and her incredible killing potential that she totally had... Summer frowned and charged forwards anyway. Nothing to it but to do it.

As two of the Sea Guard broke off from the group and raced towards her she realised that trying to fight two of them at once might get a little bit dicey but luckily she had a plan. She waited until they got closer before tapping into the power in her belt and unleashing it. A pair of gleaming golden wings of light appeared from her back and she slammed the two of them with a heavy dose of [Fear] causing one of them to lock up and the other to start backing away from her. That was fine, it was exactly what she had hoped for.

As she ran up to the one that was frozen, it seemed like it was about to start moving until she leaped in and stabbed her blade straight through the fishman's chest and out its back. If it had been able to defend itself it might have stood a chance but frozen like it was, it couldn't do anything. She swung her sword up and out of its body before turning to the one that was backing away. Time to clean up the trash, only one left to go.

The feeling of water in her boots had mostly faded now but wading through this much ocean still sucked. To help her along with it, she reached out for her class abilities and activated her rage. Pink light swam through her veins and her eyes turned red, increasing her speed and power just a little bit but a little bit is all she needed. Doubling down she began to charge forwards, spraying water all around herself as she ran up to the last bloody fishman that she had to kill for this mission and to get safely to shore!

As she ran up to the monster she slammed her shield into its face causing it to hiss and stumble backwards but it seemed like that mostly broke it out of its fear. So as she swung in it managed to dodge her first strike by dipping under the water before leaping upwards out of the spray to try and claw her face. She brought her shield up and easily absorbed the attack before healing herself again. The Sea Guard landed on her shield and she flipped it over before slashing it in the air.

She wasn't able to kill it but she did send it straight back into the water, spattering blood into the roil around her. The creature moved away a bit, watching her and waiting to see what she was going to do but she fell into a defensive stance, buckler out in front of her and sword back, ready to move and block another strike. These things hit hard but as long as she blocked the strikes she would be fine and already her wounds from earlier were closed up by her healing and natural regeneration.

There was a tense standoff moment as Summer and the Sea Guard stood, staring at each other, gauging the other fighter. That all ended very quickly as both of them charged at the same moment. The Sea Guard ran its claws through the water, summoning salt and murky mist around its fists as it ferociously moved towards her, obviously some kind of buff, that was just fine, all she needed was one good strike to finish this and she knew just how to get it.

With a howl of fury as she rushed she decided that dodging was pointless. The Sea Guard leaped forwards and swung both claws down towards Summer, she could block one but not the other. Clenching her jaw and gritting her teeth she threw her shield in front of one claw with a heavy clashing of energy. The other claw bit into her shoulder and dragged down, spraying her blood into the blue around them, turning it a nice shade of murky pink. However her defense had mostly protected her and stopped the status effect from the claws that she could feel trying to ravage her.

In turn however her sword bit deep into the fishman's stomach and with a push she drove it down and impaled the fishman into the seafloor beneath the waves. It writhed around for a few moments and she dove away to prevent it from clawing at her again but it died after a short period of time. She let out a long sigh and got up before rushing towards the beach. It took a couple of minutes of running and floundering but eventually she did reach the sand before flopping down onto it and letting out a long, withering sigh. She was going to need so many showers after this but at least she did it.
