With everything that had been going on as of late, Olliver had found himself spending an inordinate amount of time within the Hub. Not only was it perhaps the best source of information that he had at the moment but it was becoming somewhere that he had felt safe. To a degree anyways. It wouldn't be smart to assume that these [Safe Zone]'s will always remain that way, given how easily Earth-Chan might change their mind. It could happen on a whim if this entity had desired it to and as such, Olliver would never truly feel safe. Any entity with enough power to completely and utterly change the world.. Well they were the kind of thing that he knew that he would never be able to trust.

Figuring that things were going to go better for him in a [Safe Zone] at the moment, Olliver had currently found himself taking the time to rest from all of his running around. Rather than find himself out in the frigid lands of Arctica once again, he would instead opt to rest at a rather fine dining establishment. This plump individual had currently been partaking in a pina colada and was actively drinking away his worries at the moment. Even if there wasn't a ton of ways that he could afford to survive, given his lack of actively starting his business yet and of course his lack of combat prowess, Olliver had planned to live this life to the fullest. If that had meant going as far as to day drink in public than so be it.

The next leg of Wes’s exploration of the safe zones was the Hub, and Wes found it to be his most surreal experience so far. While the rest of the world had a video game superimposed onto it, the Hub was a video game come to life. A zone artificially created by Earth-chan and existing in a space that Wes wasn’t sure actually existed in reality, he hadn’t been sure exactly what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised by just how much was here.
Hotels, stores, bars, restaurants. All the luxuries that Wes previously enjoyed were available to him once more. He spent his day exploring all the Hub had to offer. In a store promising trinkets and wonders, he gambled away some more points than he should have. From one Mystery Box he received some stones of Carnelian that exploded like dynamite when thrown, and from his other gamble he received an Armored Tracksuit. The armor felt and looked like a typical track suit but had the same defensive properties of plate armor. He wasn’t too keen on the aesthetic of donning athletic wear semi-permanently, but the thought of actually wearing plate armor sounded much worse to him.
He spent several hours in a bookstore, reading random chapters from novels all around the world. Since the onset of the System, language was no longer a barrier. It wasn’t that things were translated, he could just understand everything now. After some gentle prodding from the store clerk, Wes bought a couple of books and went on his way.
His next stop was food. Wes asked around for recommendations and after the third person pointed to a small, yet fancy-looking restaurant and bar, Wes decided he had to try. When he arrived, he spotted a fellow drinking what looked like a pina colada, "Is that any good?"
Wes took a seat at a nearby table and pulled out one of his recent purchases, an original French of Foucault’s Discipline and Punish. It was a book he expected to read during his graduate studies if they had been allowed to really start. When a waiter walked by, he would ask for one of the drinks regardless of the other’s answer.

Still in the process of downing his drink as a new individual would come upon him, Olliver would take the time to pull his drink away from his lips. After he had managed to set it down upon the table, Olliver would simply smile up at the brown haired man. "Yeah, I suppose that you could say that. At the very least, it's better than what I would normally be served out in the real world." A small bout of laughter would escape from the hefty mans lips as he would lean back a bit. "How about you?"

Gesturing towards the book that had been within the mans hands, Olliver would continue on. "French of Foucault’s Discipline and Punish, huh? By French philosopher Michel Foucault if I am remembering correctly." This was one of the several books that Olliver had held within his library before the world had gone to shit. In fact, within his upscale apartment, all sorts of goods had initially been stowed away. All for the sake of selling them of course. "I happen to have a copy or two stashed away within my home but well.. I've never really had the time to read over it. Not before the light had dawned upon us for a second time."

Figuring that it would make more sense for him to rise from his seat and to grab one a bit closer to the man with whom he had been speaking, Olliver would do just that! Of course he would be sure to snag his drink along the way, ensuring that he didn't leave it behind. "You know, someone taking the time to read a book from the seventies was the last thing that I had expected to encounter here. Not just within the Hub but within this new world entirely. Is this perhaps the kind of thing that many people have been finding themselves doing since the fall of civilization?"

"Ah you're familiar?" Wes was surprised, not that he should have been. It was a pretty well known book across a number of disciplines and many had read it, but he had a touch of the self-important-grad-student mindset that led him to believe anything he was reading was too niche for the masses.
"I haven't read it before either," he looked down ad the book and thumbed through a couple pages, "but I had planned to in my coursework." He smiled to himself remembering when he first learned of his acceptance in to his graduate studies.
Wes welcomed the man joining him. He closed the book, slid it off to his side, and turned his smile to his new company. It was then that a waiter stopped by with his piña colada. Wes thanked the man before immediately taking a sip, "oh this is good!" he took another.
...the fall of civilization. Wes couldn't say he hadn't thought of it that way, but to hear it said so succinctly was disconcerting. "I don't know if its typical, but for me, I guess its an attempt to maintain sometime of normalcy. I've managed to read quite a bit since the... tutorials. Its a great way to keep my mind off of all of this." He gestured broadly and looked around. The Hub still didn't feel like a real place, and perhaps it wasn't.
"What have you found yourself preoccupied with lately, just fruity drinks?" it was a bit of a tease, but Wes was genuinely interested in how others were handling the new world.

Withdrawing his hand away from his chin, Olliver would mentally draw up his menu and would utilize it to equip his hawk fashioned bronze helmet. "I'm not sure if you've heard of it or not but I shall be hosting an auction in the coming weeks. The Bronze Hawk's Bizarre Bazaar. Naturally I am the bronze hawk." Allowing for a small bout of laughter to escape from his lips, the man would gesture for the waiter to come on over. Once they had approached, Olliver would lean over to them and whisper another order of food within the individuals ear.

"You know, you might be interested in coming to this auction. I'm sure that they'll be plenty of things that might catch your eye. And if nothing does? Well at least you'll be able to enjoy the food and drink that shall be offered for those that have chosen to come. Wes found himself laughing along. "That's you?" he exclaimed. "Of course I saw the notice, I think everyone has seen it by now. That sound's fascinating."
He listened as the Bronze Hawk extended an invite. The decadence of it alone sounded worth attending. Food? Drink? at a fancy event? Wes was more than committed to going at this point. The offer to have books set aside was icing on the cake. As thoughts of the potential extravagance danced through his head, Wes took a swig of his drink.
"Oh well, my new friend, you have a way with words because I will certainly be coming out to see you," Wes winked and then offered a little cheers before taking another drink.
Wes then raised a hand and accessed his inventory. A couple flicks of his finger and he brought forth one of the items he received earlier. He placed the carnelian pebbles on the table, gently. He hovered his hand over them for a second, looking for a sign of detonation before relaxing. "If you'd like, I'll sell these to you? You could probably turn them for a bigger profit at your auction, and I won't be offended. It'll be fun to feel included in the first ever 'Bronze Hawk's Bizarre Bazaar.'" he quoted the name with much more enthusiasm than necessary.
"What makes it bizarre, by the way?" Wes wondered out loud, taking another sip of his drink. It was running low now. "Is it the items?" he then added, with a cock of his head and a playful lift to his voice, "Or is it you?"

Without a second thought, despite the fact that he had just seen the man before him carefully setting the things down, Olliver would snatch one of the carnelian pebbles off of the table and begin to inspect it. "So what exactly do they do that will make me want to buy them? Depending on their effects, I might just offer you a deal here and now." Wes flinched, throwing both his hands over his head and sliding back away from the table in a hurry. He knocked his drink off the table in his hurry and nearly fell to the floor. When after several seconds there was no explosion, he lowered his arms but did not move any closer. "Those" he waived a hand around in a circular gesture at the pebble in the man's hand, "explode like dynamite after you throw them."
After another moment, once he was convinced that the man would not blow them both up, he slid his seat back forward and rejoined the table. He grabbed a napkin and began to wipe up the pool of pina colada as Olliver described the bazaar. When Olliver paused to laugh, Wes chimed in, "Well with that description, I think these would certainly fit in. I also am even more sure that I will attend your event."
He smiled at Olliver's introduction. He offered his hand for a shake, but would recoil with a grimace of a smile if Olliver tried to shake with one of the pebbles in his hand. "I'm Wes."
It was at that point the waiter returned carrying whatever food that Olliver had ordered. Hurriedly (but with a great deal of care), Wes snatched up the pebbles left on the table. He then ordered himself a replacement drink and apologetically handed the waiter a slosh filled mess of a napkin.

Exploding stones? Truly Fascinating! While the merchant and those around him had been rather lucky that the carnelian's hadn't blown up, Olliver couldn't say that he wasn't hoping to see these things in action. Perhaps he can test them out a bit once he had acquired them for himself. Not that he would really be holding onto these things for all that long. After all, he was simply in the game to bring better rewards. If he acquires these things from the man than he is simply going to be holding onto them until he can sell them. "I suppose that it's a good thing that these hadn't blown up then, huh?" The man would chortle as he had begun to process how these things likely worked. "It's entirely likely that you have to imbue your power into them before throwing them. Most effective way to make such a thing work, if I am not mistaken. From my understanding, that is why there seems to be a power cap on items. It's quite possible that these things are powered by our stats, depending on the item."

The fact that Wes had already wished to entertain him by visiting his bazaar was a wonderful thing. How he had now wanted to visit even more so than beforehand was something that had truly filled the merchant with glee. Whilst extending a free hand out towards the man, Olliver would shake his hand. His other hand would naturally place the carnelian pebble back onto the tabletop though. "I look forward to having you with us, of course!! Let me ask you though, Wes, how much are you willing to part with these for? I can offer fifty points up front in exchange for such an item. Certainly less but no more."

As the waiter would make a reappearance at their table, setting down a basket of jalapeno poppers, Olliver would take the time to open up a trade menu. This was the first time that he had made a trade with another player in any capacity. Normally he would have received some kind of benefit from the system but this time around, he was on the purchasing end and not the selling end. One can only truly wonder how often the merchant shall find himself on the buying end of things. Either way, once the window was up and open, Olliver would slot in fifty points in exchange for the explosive carnelians within Wes' possession. "So do we perchance have a deal?"
