”Hmmm… yes, I think I see. Thank you kindly for explaining this to us, we’ll be sure to start our investigation on the double! Isn’t that right, my friends?” Mr. Beast glanced down to Ragline and Marble who sat on either side of him. They nodded eagerly. This was Marble’s first official mission, and the golem was happy to be working out in the field. Mr. Beast himself was wearing a business suit as usual with his guild’s bandanna tucked into his neck. He stood and shook hands with the half-wolf demihuman in front of him. Her town was deep within the Devil’s Triangle and held a portal to some other realm, and while the locals never ventured into it, they kept running ghosts recently. Clearly something had happened with the portal. ”Well then, Mrs. Lyara, we’ll be on our way then to start our investigation! If anything else happens, please be sure to send Utopia another message!”

Mr. Beast ducked out through the front of her hut and immediately clocked the portal in the distance. He was glad these demihumans felt safe enough with Utopia to contact them for help, but this sort of thing felt much more in the realm of SIGMA… Still, Mr. Beast could never turn down anyone’s help! ”There’s our destination, Ragline, if you’d like to lead the way!” Ragline cheered and skipped to the front, where MR. Beast and Marble followed. Many of the demihumans were hidden away when the man first arrived, but seeing the way he interacted with his pets made them much friendlier. Mr. Beast smiled as he walked.

They didn’t need to reach the portal to start noticing issues. The portal itself sat in a shrine of sorts at the top of a hill, with a decorated staircase leading up to it. At the bottom of the staircase sat an ectoplasm-green ghost, just standing and staring at an unlit lamp post. Mrs. Lyara mentioned this spirit… It had been like this for a few days now, but no one dared come near it. Ragline stopped a few meters away and looked to Mr. Beast for guidance.

Ahem! Mr. Beast cleared his throat and continued walking towards the spirit. If it noticed him, it didn’t respond. He stopped a meter from it. ”Hello, spirit!” Still response. Mr. Beast didn’t want to be rude, but he stepped in front of the spirit to see if it registered him. It moved to face the hanging lamp again. ”Well team, it looks like it’s time for some testing! Ragline, if you’d please!” Ragline hopped forward and handed a lamp lighting torch to Mr. Beast, provided by Mrs. Lyara.
