Even in the brightest years of her childhood, Ingrid suffered a certain longing. Often having trouble making friends, due to many of the faults that would shape her later failings, she ended up having a rather insular childhood. She was contented to spend more fantasizing about mirth rather than actually enjoying herself.[break][break]
As a teenager, she developed a love of historical dress--inspired by the exuberance of rococo--she dreamt of being a designer, and putting out her own line of opulent gowns. Against the wishes of her father, she studied art, design, and fashionable theories at university. Afterwards, she struggled to earn a proper living in a way she found fulfilling. Occasionally, she was able to work helping design and stitch dresses for cosplayers. Instead of building a rapport and networking, she acted as if such work was beneath her; there were only so many Princess Peaches or Daisies she could construct.[break][break]
Several of her gowns had caught the eye of a costume designer of an Opera company in Lyon, who sought to have her work as an apprentice. Initially, she wasn’t in charge of any designs; she worked in construction. Her work was well appreciated, and within a few years, she was developing costumes in collaboration with her superior. From on high she was instructed to work with a young soprano named Ekaterina, who preferred to be called Kitty. Finding her first magnum opus, Ingrid developed a stunning look for Kitty as Juliette, dazzling the once jaded audience. For a time, she and Kitty were a collaborative pair, developing not only a strong professional relationship, but also a close friendship.[break][break]
