She held a hand over her eyes to shield them from the sun that lit up this orange, sandy environment. Another person? Where did they come from? Where were they all?[break][break] Fliss naturally waved, only to see a flurry of pixels and coding flicker not far from them, a person materialising from thin air. Already, she seemed quite jarred by the whole situation, questioning everyone immediately. Someone alert, and straight to the point - Felicity was relieved to have people like that around. It meant they wouldn't be aimlessly wondering in circles. [break][break] "Hey, we just got here too!" Fliss shouted, still standing by her motorcycle. "It's fine, honestly." [break][break] Fliss didn't walk closer, but she was worried about the other woman on the other side of them. She held her hands up and turned slightly, showing she had nothing on her. "My name is Felicity, but Fliss is fine. Do you have a working phone? Mine doesn't seem to work."[break][break] She was sickly worried about her family, but her face didn't show that, instead she was calm, trying to diffuse the situation that everyone was in. [break][break] But another blue screen appeared. Much larger, a single one hovering in the sky for them all to see. [break][break]

She thought back to the pop-up messages in her helmet earlier, mentioning classes and protection against such things. And then there was that stupid little emoticon - Earth-chan, was it? She cursed poorly in her mother tongue. [break][break] That's when she noticed it, her bike was... Different. Not terrible, but not exactly her taste. There were in-built speakers attached to it, the piping seemed strange and the wheels felt more... Alive? She looked back at the others, making sure the latest addition wasn't going to kill anyone. She was cut off while talking on the mobile headset attached to her bike helmet.[break][break] "No Fliss, you don't understand." Kat replied in her ear piece, her voice shaking somewhat, "Do you really think she changed? That it actually did anything for Mary?"[break][break] "Katarin, she is your mother. Do not call her Mary." Felicity replied with a firm tone, she sounded focussed, but she had to be at this time. She was hunched over her bike, riding down a quiet motorway in the dead of night. The roaring sound of her engine tore across the tarmac, the light rain that fell from the skies refracting the red and yellow lights of vehicles that sped past. This was Felicity's happy place, but she hated having these sort of conversations while driving. It ruined the vibe. [break][break] "Yes, Katarin. I do believe she is better. You mean everything to her and she means more to me than you realise. If only you give her a cha-"[break][break] The signal cut out, the line to her 15 year old niece was static, followed by a beep and dead dial tone. Damn. There was silence for a moment, at least that's what Fliss called the sound of vehicles on the road - peace and quiet. A few seconds passed before her music started automatically playing again. But when her eyes focussed on the road ahead of her, along the horizon of these baron highways leading back home. The world seemed to warp around her, and blue game HUDs started popping up in her field of vision as if she was wearing a VR headset. [break][break] "What the-" Her tires screeched to a halt, she heard the same on other cars and lorries too. For a moment, she thought she was going to come off her bike, but the air seemed to cushion her, slowing her tire drag. When she came to a halt, and realised there was nobody around her on the road, she finally read the messages on her screen. [break][break] "Earth?" She scowled, wondering if the companies she worked for had been tampering with her helmet. She swiped it off, only to see the screen grow bigger in front of her, without any kind of headset. The blue light flickered through the drizzle, her black hair already becoming wet. "I choose the Hotrod Rock... Star?" She nodded towards it, giving it a light tap with her finger. Was this some kind of test from her employer? It wouldn't be the first time. [break][break] But reality changed, the rain started to fade, and suddenly she was in broad daylight, enough warmth to dry her hair but not enough to make her sweat. There was no longer a road, just the baron land of something like Arizona? Born in Kuwait to a rich, giving family, Felicity was set up to have a prosperous life. Young girl, twin sister. Felicity and Marianne, Fliss and Mary. People always said how cute they were, loved to put them in the same clothes, give them the same food, make them share a birthday cake. Fliss, actually enjoyed all this stuff, thankful that she had someone to share this amazing life with. But her sister despised it, hated the fact that things were shared and people saw them as 'one person' most of the time. But what Mary hated the most was Fliss, the twin sister that actually enjoyed such silly shows.[break][break]

Was a shithole. They never should have moved here, but alas, it wasn't their choice. Felicity's father ended up having an affair, it was covered up quickly but brutally. That entire side of the family, the rich side with so called 'connections' in the Arabian region, did everything they could to maintain their social status and facade. They sent Felicity's mother away, to America where she had family and friends, none that really cared though. A lump sum of money was paid to keep her quiet, and the twins were temporarily separated during the divorce and custody decisions.[break][break]
They spent some time apart, but eventually Mary was flown over to the US as well. Their Father's family decided it better he just 'restart', like everything before that didn't matter. The twins were only 6 at the time, and now had to start again in a shitty motel and shitty neighbourhood. [break][break]

Or not. Mary hated Fliss, and Fliss retreated into dark times. Although Fliss was originally going to end up being the more outgoing, kind sister, the cruelty she felt from Mary had warped her. Felicity entered an emo phase she never really grew out of, she may not have the MCR merch, bad eyeliner or hairsprayed fringe, but black is her one and only colour. Mary, on the other hand, did her best to stand out and go the opposite direction to Fliss. This meant pink, lots of it. Flowers, daisies, obnoxious songs when Fliss played heavy metal. It was awful growing up. But there's nothing worth talking about during their adolescence, just the usual teenage angst, awkward lovers and badly paid jobs.[break][break]

Is now. Fliss got a well paid job, knowing the right people in the right places. Some sort of official, government business, she's a discreet courier for businessmen, and delivery-woman for big tech companies. She never knows what it is she's carrying, but she doesn't care. The job involves minimal social interaction, good music playing when she's driving, and being able to afford a high rise flat. But because of her job, she's usually on the move, though it's always nice to come back to that lavish apartment...[break][break]
But it's home. It's where her Mother and Sister live, and her Sister's daughter. Things got tense between them, and Fliss couldn't do anything about it. Mary was borderline psychotic, suffering from a plethora of mental health issues. It was always apparent, just never dealt with when they were younger. It was only when she started going to psychiatric hospitals that they found out she was suffering from various issues. Not long after she tried to burn down her own house and her husband inside of it (failed attempt), she had her first kid, Katarin. She was a sweet thing, but nobody was allowed to see her, especially Fliss. [break][break]
But soon after her birth, Marianne's condition worsened, and it was no longer safe for her to be around the child and public for that matter. She was now permanently in hospital, then an rehabilitation estate. Felicity paid for it all, of course, she was the only one in their small family that could. She never admitted it though, she pretended it was government funded so that Mary wouldn't find more reasons to hate her. Mary's daughter, Katarain, was only 6 when this first happened. Since then, Fliss was able to properly visit and spend time with her niece. [break][break]

Katarin is now 14, and enjoys spending time with Felicity, when she's back from work anyway. She often spends her freetime in Fliss's apartment when she's gone, cooking for herself, watching TV and acting almost like she lives alone. Fliss doesn't mind, and Katarin's father is also quite a pushover when it comes to these things. Fliss and Kat are quite similar in that regard, preferring to spend time alone. Even when they're together, they don't have much conversation with one another, and instead enjoy each other's silent company as they cook together and watch a movie. [break][break]
A sad truth about this situation, is that Fliss has a kid of her own. A baby girl, she named Ashley, but she probably has a different name now. Felicity was too young at the time to look after a kid, and her mother was in no financial position to take that burden off of her. So she was given to the system, adopted by a nice family in Toronto. It all happened so fast, and Felicity hasn't seen the father of her kid since she was 16. Just a stupid teenage romance, forgotten to the wind. [break][break]
Maybe that's why she gets on so well with Katarin, keeping a watchful eye over her from a distance. Even without the presence of Mary, she still didn't want to feel like she was stepping on anybody's toes. [break][break]
"Mom's better now
Were supposed to be words of joy, something everybody wanted to hear. Fliss was overjoyed by that fact, knowing her twin sister was well enough to come and take care of Katarin herself. Felicity knew there was probably going to be no improvement on their sisterly relationship, but it was going to get better. It had to. [break][break]
But Katarin was unsure, hesitant by everything. Her visits to the psych ward were incredibly limited, almost 10 years of her mother being locked up there felt like an eternity, something she had got used to. [break][break]
And Felicity knows it's going to somehow be her fault.
