[break][break]Hearing the mention of a guild, it made the black-haired man wonder as to whether it was in any way similar to how one functioned in the games he had played. One person being in charge as guild master, a bunch of goons acting as second in command to make sure the chat didn’t go out of control when the leader was out, and more or less moderating who gets which loot when running high-end dungeons and raids. Not quite sure how such a thing would translate into real world shenanigans, the only other kind of guild that he was aware of also moderated how much members of said guild would be able to make for their crafts. It was really just a fancy way of making sure one business would not put the other in the ground by outcompeting them through providing lower prices.

[break][break]Since he wasn’t a craftsman at all, it was likely the former of the versions of a guild, unless she was part of some cooking-collective that aimed to establish fair guidelines for chefs trying to set up a business in this new world. Truth be told, part of setting up his own restaurant here didn’t sound like it would be that bad of an idea. Hell, he might even try something like it once he learned more about what this world was like and what it had to offer in terms of currency. After all, establishing a business without having a damned clue as to whether or not people even used money here sounded like a poorly executed plan. Continuing the story, Pori claimed that she had come here to see if she could get into Canada, which also sounded a bit odd.

[break][break]“I’ll have to think about it. As for Canada, why would you want to go there?”

[break][break]“I can say with some certainty that i’ve never been there. I grew up in the Netherlands before moving to Ireland, so this is the first time I’ve actually left the continent of Europe. Makes you wonder what the place would be like once you return to it in this new setting.”

[break][break]It was quite odd for somebody the age of twenty-four to not have seen more of the world, especially how you had all of these people that seemed to have to cross off at least one foreign country off of some kind of list every other vacation. Whether it was skiing in Aspen or Austria, going to the beaches of Cape Verde or Australia, going backpacking for an entire year in south America, people his age and younger figured out all kinds of excuses not to be around home and think about their futures. Meanwhile, he had been hard at work washing dishes at a local restaurant, practicing in the batting cage and going to kickboxing practice several times a week. In the end, all he had to show for it was a career as sous-chef and the title of being a promising new talent in the baseball world, which was all good and fun.

[break][break]But at the end of the day, knowing what he knew now, perhaps making the most out of life and living in the present might have been that much more valuable. That said though, no one knew that a few years from then, they would end up in this strange new world.

[break][break]“Part of me wonders whether some of the old world remains, and whether or not my family made it here.”

[break][break]“Blocked off? I’m not sure what you mean by that, but I would imagine they’re open?”

[break][break]More of those statements that likely only made sense to those that had been around longer than a day. Imagining that she meant something like a country blocking people from entering because of internal issues being ironed out, which seemed to be happening a lot in the old world when it came to immigration or working out how to keep thriving during a pandemic, there was no way of being sure at this point. His knowledge of this world was severely limited after all. One thing about this entire discussion that could be said was that the more it dragged on, the more he learned about this new world. The other side of that coin was that he also heard a good deal of things that didn’t exactly resonate with him.

[break][break]Slime infestations. Zombies. Robots. These kinds of things were not exactly what one would call a driving force for a thriving community. Just looking around in New York, it was clear to see how well the city had done under the weight of zombies and supposedly robots in the sense that it reaaally hadn’t at all. It made a lot of sense that there were safe zones around the world, as such massive cities by themselves seemed incredibly difficult to keep safe when situated out in the open. Los Angeles at least had an ocean on one side to keep certain things from coming in, though it would likely be more susceptible to sea monsters and the like. But that was a troubling thought for some other time.
